Those who refused were punished by death. As Antiochus' army spread throughout the land enforcing his evil decrees, an uprising began in the small farming village of Modiin. Led by Matitiyahu, a vibrant elderly man, and his five sons, the rebels quickly grew in numbers and amassed an army.
