Smokin’ Aces review - post author admin

Smokin' Aces movie reviewI mentioned in early January that an early draft of Smokin’ Aces by Joe Carnahan was available on the ‘net. Guy Jackson, one of the discussion board regulars has a great review of the movie that came out yesterday. The beauty of the review, in my mind, is that it was the reading of the script that prompted Guy to go out and see the movie.

One Week Challenge – January 2007 - post author admin

This month’s One Week Challenge, wherein members of the site have a week to write a 15 page or less script on a particular genre and theme, garnered thirteen submissions despite the fact that shortly after it was announced, but before I could advertise it, I got sucked deep into my day job. This month’s genre was Science Fiction. The theme was Popcorn. To see what was turned out, check out the January 2007 One Week Challenge page.

On the Movie Scripts page, thanks to The Weekly Script we have a shooting draft of Deep Cover.

Lastly, last week I got up thirteen new or revised scripts up on the Unproduced Scripts page. – Don

Godfather III and Big screenplays - post author admin

Thanks to “No credit for these” and Awesome Film we have the July 2, 1987 revised draft of Big by Gary Ross & Anne Spielberg (yes, sister of Stephen ). “NCFT” writes, Since Big is coming out in a special edition dvd [on March 27th] that whole issue of the “alternate ending” has come back. Hopefully if this gets posted that rumor will be put to rest once and for all.

Back in the late 70’s Paramount tried to put together a Godfather Part III without Coppola and Puzo on the screenplay. Read Dean Rieser’s take on it. Needless to say, it was never produced.

Mosey on down to the Movie Scripts page to check them out. – Don

Peekvid.comThanks SciFiScripts for the heads up on this wonderful site PeekVid which aggregates video feeds from popular movies and tv shows. So, if you are keen on a peek at Torch Wood or other shows you’ve missed, do give it a look.

The Dark Year screenplay - post author admin

Thanks to Pierre who writes, …herewith [is] “The Dark Year” an adaptation of a short novel by Ismail Kadar?, the well known Franco-Albanian writer who won the Booker Prize last year. This screenplay was written originally in English and the film is actually being shot in Albania. I will be honored to have you show it on Simplyscripts since your site has been of great help to me professionally.

The Dark Year takes place in 1914 Albania, just prior to the outbreak of World War I. Albania, long under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, is now a free, though chaotic country. Five villagers set off to war to defend their country. They can’t find the war but the hero finds a woman he saves from crucifixion.

L’Ann?e Noire (The Dark Year) (en fran?ais) and The Dark Year (L’Ann?e Noire) (en anglais) by Fatmir Ko?i & Pierre Gautard (based on the novel Viti i mbrapsht? by Ismail Kadar?)

This, as well as other works in other languages, can be found on the Non English scripts page. – Don

Update: I’ve fixed the broken links to the scripts.

And, to clarify.
To read the script in French, use this link: L’Ann?e Noire (The Dark Year) (en fran?ais)

To read the script in English, use this link: The Dark Year (L’Ann?e Noire ) (en anglais)

Idiocracy DVD to be relased Jan 9 - post author admin

buy Mike Judge's Idiocracy on DVD now!The newest Mike Judge comedy (Mike Judge is one of the creative minds behind Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill and Office Space), Idiocracy will be available on DVD January 9th.

This film was buried by Fox who only released the film theatrically in very few cities. The film is about Private Joe Bowers, the definition of “average American”, selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he’s easily the most intelligent person alive.

There is an excellent script review over at The Deadbolt. I know this script was on the ‘net back in September. However, the links no longer work. If anyone has seen it on the ‘net, let me know where it is.

Update: Thanks “IS”

Dude,

Smokin’ Aces script - post author admin

Thanks to JBM for the heads up on this one.

Smokin’ Joe Carnahan is my new hero. It is so rare for a writer/director to put their work out on the ‘net. Thanks to Smokin’ Joe Carnahan you can read this early draft of Smokin’ Aces. According to Carnahan’s blog, the draft made available represents, in Joe’s words, “The script I submitted to Universal, which really represents the version they greenlit. Lot of changes in the final film, including the ending (although we did shoot the scripted ending, it goes to that wonderful orphanage known as the DVD deleted scenes section, to be claimed by its loving parent later) and other misc twists and turns.”

Smokin’ Aces comes out January 26th. This is on my must see list since we got Jeremy Piven playing a Las Vegas performer-turned-snitch who decides to turn state’s evidence and testify against the mob. We got Ray Liotta, Ben Affleck, Justin Batemen and Alicia Keys trying to either kill him or keep him alive. We got a lot of violence from the guy who brought you “Narc”. Check out the trailer, then check out the script on the Movie Scripts page. – Don
