Charlie Kaufman’s latest script - post author Don

Thanks to Rain for the heads up on Charlie Kaufman’s latest script Synecdoche, New York. This is an undated, unspecified, probably early draft about a theater director struggling with his work, and the women in his life, as he attempts to create a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse as part of his new play. Read the script via imdb.com discussion board. – Don

Certainly Kaufmanesque, however may be slightly self-indulgent. Just when I thought I had my finger on what the film was about, it shifted into something else. Entirely.

I don’t know how I feel about that, yet. What I do know is I haven’t seen anything like it.

PS- Those that believe the concept is a rehash of 8 1/2 are completely wrong.

Kaufmanesque and self-indulgent in the same sentence seems redundant to me.

Hi, I played the film backwards and I found it to be superbly palindromic. A story that presents Kaufman as playwright / Vermeer like artist (with visible simbolism, such as Samantha Morton in her headband), settled into his middle class environment, yet poverty stricken and full of self revilement.

I love it. The more I study it, the more I find to study.
