The Land of Burnt Out Fires by Jose Villanueva hosted by The Land of Burnt Out Fires

(Western) - Inspired by the Modoc War of 1872-73. The Modoc indians could barely survive on the poor reservation given to them by the government in 1864. In 1872, a small group escaped from the reservation and headed back to their homeland. With the army in pursuit, they fled to the Land of Burnt Out Fires, a lava bed formed by an extinct volcano. Captain Jack and his small band of about 150 poorly armed warriors was able to hold out for six months battling the U.S. cavalry. (pdf)
