EXT. HILLTOP – DAY

A shepherd BOY (10), leads a flock of sheep down a steep hill. The mood
is calm, serene.

ANGLE ON SHEEP

They quietly graze. The boy sits on a small boulder. He takes a bite of
bread as he watches over his flock.

A RUMBLING NOISE approaches in the distance. The boy stands up.

The sheep panic and scatter. Startled, the boy looks up at the sky.

A squadron of BRITISH SPITFIRES, ROARS overhead. The boy leaps to the
ground. He covers his ears as the fighter's thunderous ENGINES deafen
the landscape.

With his hands still on his ears, the boy turns onto his back and looks
up at the sky.

BOY'S POV

Fighter after fighter continues to streak over the landscape. They
disappear over the next hilltop.

SUPER: EL ALAMEIN, NORTH AFRICA 1942

EXT. BATTLEFIELD – ARIEL VIEW – DAY

Barrages of anti-aircraft fire blanket the sky above. A German fighter
is struck. It EXPLODES in half.

INT. AMERICAN FIGHTER – COCKPIT'S POV

The pilot OPENS FIRE on a German plane. The enemy's COCKPIT SHATTERS.
The wing snaps off. The German fighter spirals
to earth in a FIREBALL.

A GERMAN FIGHTER

Rockets across the sky.

It zeros in on an American fighter. Its cannons unleash a rattling
succession of streaking, WHITE HOT BULLETS.

With merciless force the bullets STRIKE the American fighter's tail.
It's BLOWN to pieces.

The German fighter swoops down for the kill.

INT. GERMAN FIGHTER

He focuses his sight on the American's fire trail. He FIRES again. A
direct hit. Pieces of the American enemy fighter break away from its
fuselage.

It EXPLODES. It unleashes a blinding, mid-air plume of black smoke.

GERMAN COCKPIT'S POV

He flies through the thick SMOKE of the fire trail. He emerges -– to
find the torn engine from the American fighter spiraling straight at
him!

REACTION – GERMAN PILOT

His eyes widen in terror. He pulls up.

BACK TO SCENE

His fighter COLLIDES with the fiery engine wreckage. The ferocity of
the impact tears his left wing off.

His fighter spirals into a nose dive.

INT. COCKPIT - SPIRALING

The German pilot struggles to open his canopy. The lever is damaged.
The canopy won't open. The earth below grows closer with each second.

He slams his fist repeatedly against the lever to open it but it
doesn't budge.

Desperate, he pulls out his revolver and fires at the lock. The canopy
blows open. He bails out of his plane.

He pulls the cord to his parachute. It opens and he descends. In the
distance, his fighter CRASHES into the earth.

EXT. DESERT AREA – DAY

He lands safely. He quickly gets to his feet and looks over his
shoulder.

GERMAN PILOT'S POV

The dogfights continue to rage above. Artillery shells EXPLODE in the
distance.

BACK TO SCENE

The German Pilot unhooks himself from his parachute. He rolls it up and
runs for cover inside a cavernous opening.

INT. CAVE – DAY

He climbs inside and heads deeper into the cave for safety.

INT. CAVERN -- FURTHER

The Pilot removes a flashlight from his gear. He ventures deep into a
massive, subterranean opening.

He trips and falls. THE FLASHLIGHT slips from his hand and rolls onto
the ground. The bright light exposes a metallic object.

He picks up the flashlight and staggers to his feet. His eyes widen in
awe at a startling sight.

REVERSE ANGLE

A SPACECRAFT of unknown origin towers over him. The German pilot
approaches the ship with caution. He stands before the vessel,
intrigued by its advanced design.

On closer inspection, WE SEE that the ship is incomplete. The second
half of its hull has been sliced off –- and missing.

He runs an eager hand along the ship's hull.

							FADE TO BLACK:

FADE IN:

A bright, intense RED GLARE fills THE SCREEN. WIDER, we see the light
emanates from a high intensity LASER BEAM.

SUPER: PRESENT DAY

					VOICE (O.S.)
The laser emits short pulses of photons
that cause the plaque within the arterial
wall to vaporize without damaging the blood
cells or the blood vessel tissues.

INT. OPERATING ROOM – DAY

The voice comes from DOCTOR JOHN SHEPERD (40), tall, dark haired with
stern features.

We SEE now that we're in a high tech, state-of-the-art operating room,
complete with a mixture of computers and digital cameras.

MEDICAL STUDENTS, watch as John, clothed in an environmental suit,
continues with the lesson.

					JOHN
All right. I'd like someone to practice
on the laser. Who'd like to go first?

No one raises their hand. John looks up at his students. He spots one
of them yawning. The student yawning is SCOTT MILLER (20). A bearded
young man with glasses.

					JOHN (CONT'D)
		You just volunteered Mister Miller.

					MILLER
		I did??

					JOHN
		Have a seat.

Miller emerges from the crowd. He steps over to John and sits down
behind the controls of the laser.

Miller peers through the microscope. The image of a magnified ARTERY is
reproduced on a MONITOR behind him.

					JOHN
Okay, let's take it slow and easy.

CLOSE-UP – MILLER'S HAND

It trembles as he holds the laser control mechanism.

					JOHN (O.S.)
Mister Miller, the idea is not to
		kill the patient.

BACK TO SCENE

Frustrated, Miller pulls his hand away from the laser.

					MILLER
Doctor Sheperd, this is crazy. With
moderate exercise and a healthy diet
this patient would never have needed
		this procedure.

					JOHN
Very true, Mister Miller. But we can't
change the past. Now, let's try it again.
		Nice and easy.

Miller places his hands back behind the laser's controls. He fires off
a burst of ENERGY into the artery.

INT. OUTSIDE JOHN'S OFFICE – DAY

John strides in. His secretary, REBECCA LAVALLE (80), a motherly type
with glasses and wearing a knitted sweater, watches the television
monitor.

INSERT – TELEVISION

					CNN ANCHOR
				(on television)
-- Scientists are calling the phenomena
the first of its kind in recorded
history. A visible hole within our
universe—

BACK TO SCENE

					REBECCA
		Isn't that amazing.

					JOHN
		What is?

					REBECCA
They say they just discovered a black
hole within our solar system. Isn't
		that nice?

					JOHN
			(looks through his mail)
		Very nice. Any messages?

					REBECCA
		Just your wife.

					JOHN
Ex-wife. Get her on line would you,
      Rebecca?

INT. JOHN'S OFFICE – DAY

He steps inside, picks up the phone.

INT. LIVING ROOM – DAY

ANNEMARIE SHEPERD (40), gray hair with worn features answers the phone.

INTERCUT – JOHN AND ANNEMARIE ON PHONE

					JOHN
      Yes, it's me.

					ANNEMARIE
Look, John, I just wanted to make sure
you don't forget to bring the cake on
		Saturday.

					JOHN
		What're you talking about? What's
      happening Saturday?

					ANNEMARIE
		For God's sake, John. It's Mark's birthday.

					JOHN
Mark's birthday is this week? Are you
		sure?

					ANNEMARIE
Trust me. When you spend eighteen hours
in labor your child's birthday is
      burned into your memory.

John quickly flips through his calendar.

      			JOHN
Dammit, I must have gotten the dates
mixed up. I can't make it. The
      international seminar's this week.

      ANNEMARIE
So cancel it.

JOHN
Annemarie, it took over a year to get
this thing ready. I've got over two
hundred surgeons coming in from all
over the world. This is important--

					ANNEMARIE
And your son isn't? What am I supposed to
      tell him?

					JOHN
Look, I'll make it up to him. I promise.

      ANNEMARIE
You know, he keeps asking for you. It's a
pity he doesn't know what a pile of shit
      you really are.

She slams the phone down and hangs up.

      			JOHN
      Dammit…

There's a commotion outside John's door. It opens. Two armed and very
muscular Airforce MPs step inside.

					REBECCA
I'm sorry, Doctor, but they just came in –-

					JOHN
It's all right. Can I help you gentleman?

					MP
		Doctor John Sheperd?

					JOHN
		Yes. What's this all about?

					MP
We're with General Nelson's office, Sir.
He needs to see you immediately.

					JOHN
Sorry, I'm booked solid. But if you want,
you can schedule an appointment with my
      secretary.

					MP
Doctor, we have orders to bring you
		now.

					JOHN
I'm not with the airforce anymore. So,
if the General needs to see me, he can
make an appointment like the rest of my
patients. Now if you'll excuse me –-

The MP steps in his way.

      				MP
      	Doctor, this isn't a request. You're to
come with us. Now.

A stand off. The MP doesn't blink an eye.

      				JOHN
      	And if I refuse?

The MP puts his hand on his gun.

      				MP
		That's not an option, Sir.

With a startled glance, John reaches for his jacket.

					JOHN
		I certainly can't turn down such a
		polite invitation. Rebecca, cancel my
      three o'clock.

					REBECCA
				(worried)
      When	will you be back?

John looks at the MP for an answer. The MP turns to Rebecca with an
unflinching stare.

      MP
      We'll let you know.

EXT. MOUNTAIN RANGE - NIGHT

Searchlights peer from behind a towering wall of mountains. Military
helicopters race toward the source.

EXT. BASE OF MOUNTAIN – SAME TIME

The face of the rock wall FLIPS OPEN. The mountain is in fact hollow.
As the wall opens completely, a vast, man-made, brightly lit road is
revealed.

EXT. LANDING PAD

A helicopter lands. A SOLDIER races over to the helicopter's door and
slides it open. John emerges.

The Soldier and John exchange words; their conversation is drowned out
by the STILL SPINNING TURBINES from the helicopters that hover above.

John climbs onto an awaiting jeep. He's driven through the cavernous
opening.

INT. TUNNEL

It's Miles long. John turns to watch the entrance behind him close.
JOHN'S POV

The rock wall SLAMS SHUT.

INT. UNDERGROUND COMPLEX (LEVEL ONE)

The base is massive. Military buses carry personnel from one end of the
complex to the other.

The driver pulls over.

					DRIVER
		You're to wait here, Sir.

John climbs out. The jeep drives away.

Another jeep approaches. Behind the wheel is GENERAL MATTHEW
NELSON(50). Black, moderate build and stately in appearance, he imbues
an air of respect and authority.

He pulls up alongside the curb.

					NELSON
Hello, John. Glad you could make it.

      				JOHN
Wish I could say I was glad to be here.
You mind telling me what's going on?

					NELSON
Sorry for the cloak and dagger routine
but it couldn't be helped. Please, get in.
I'll explain everything.

With a suspicious glance, John climbs into the jeep. They drive off.

INT. JEEP - MOVING

They speed along the length of the complex.

                  JOHN
		What is this place?

                  NELSON
      You're at installation thirty-seven. It's
the underground equivalent of Area Fifty-One.
      		JOHN
You're not going to tell me you have
flying saucers and little green men?

					NELSON
Actually, we've got something a bit
more interesting than that. What do
you know about the concept of particle
acceleration?

                  JOHN
      Not much, I'm afraid.

                  NELSON
It's the process of making an object move
faster than the speed of light without moving
the object itself. This entire complex was
built in the late fifties to determine if
such a theory could be developed for use by
      the military.

      			JOHN
That's a hell of a long time to spend on
      trying to prove a theory.

Nelson turns to John.

      			NELSON
      It's no longer a theory.

INT. CARGO ELEVATOR

Nelson drives inside. The doors LOCK SHUT. The elevator descends.

NELSON (CONT'D)
The first experiments were simple. We
managed to send objects twelve seconds
into the past. A year later we were
able to send objects even further back
      and retrieve them.

					JOHN
		You're talking about time travel.

					NELSON
I know it sounds incredible, John, but
it's true. The time barrier's been broken.
We can send anyone or anything we want
into the past, to any point in history
      we choose.

					JOHN
Excuse me, General but what does this
      have to do with me?

                  NELSON
At eighteen hundred hours, Eastern Standard
Time, we lost contact with the Wells One.
It was a research vessel. Her crew was
supposed to return from their mission three
days ago. They haven't been heard from since.

      			JOHN
So you never received a distress signal?

      			NELSON
      Unfortunately radio waves can't travel
through the time stream so there's no way
      to contact them.

			JOHN
Where exactly did you send them?

			NELSON
To Jerusalem. To document the crucifixion
of Christ.

A stunned expression from John.

INT. NELSON'S OFFICE

Nelson and John walk in.

					JOHN
All right. Assuming I believe a word of
what you've told me; how could you have
sent an expedition to document the
      crucifixion if no historical records
      relating to Christ even exist?

Nelson removes a key from his pocket.
					NELSON
		Let me show you something.

INT. STERILIZED CHAMBER

Bone white tiles cover the walls and ceiling. A HISS OF OXYGEN. A steel
door opens.

Nelson and John enter the room. In the center, a square, clear case.
Both men stand before it.

					NELSON
Apart from the bible, we always believed
there were no historical records that
mentioned Christ. That was, until we found
this.

John leans over the Plexiglas case for closer examination.

INSERT- PARCHMENT

Tattered, with ancient words partially faded by time.

      				JOHN (O.S.)
		What is it?

BACK TO SCENE

      NELSON
It was found in Tunis almost thirty
years ago during an archeological dig.
 		It's a letter from a Roman soldier,
describing how he followed orders and
crucified a carpenter who claimed to be
      the Son of God.

Clearly awe-struck, John places his hand upon the case. He gazes at the
document.

					NELSON (CONT'D)
He'd written the letter to his wife. He
mentions the specific time and day of
      the crucifixion.

      			JOHN
You were able to translate it?

      			NELSON
Most of it. But as you can see, portions
of the letter have faded over time.

With a solemn expression he eyes the parchment.

					NELSON (CONT'D)
Project Voyage was meant to answer the
one question man's asked since he conceived
his first thought. To discover if there
truly is an intelligent force behind life
itself.
		(beat)
Now it's turned into a rescue mission.

John continues to gaze in amazement at the document.

					JOHN
You still haven't explained why you
      brought me here.

					NELSON
We're assembling a rescue team to go back
in time to find out what's happened to the
expedition. I'd like you to go along.

					JOHN
With all due respect, General, there
must be doctors with a hell of a lot
      more flight experience.

					NELSON
We have a launch window of only three
hours. Aside from your surgical skills,
you spent over a year on the Mir space
station as chief medical officer. That
makes you more than qualified for this
      mission.

					JOHN
Sorry, General but the answer's no. I have
      a son. I know I haven't been much of a
father to him yet, but I promised myself
that I'd find the time to become a decent
      one.

					NELSON
Come with me. I think you need to see
		this now.

Nelson walks out of the chamber. John follows but turns and takes one
last look at the encased document.

He steps out of the chamber. The doors close. CAMERA MOVES IN on the
parchment.

INT. OBSERVATORY – ON COMPUTER SCREEN

Stars are enveloped in a black void. Space debris is sucked into a
swirling pitch, black vacuum.

BACK TO SCENE

Nelson and John enter. They gaze at the sight.

					JOHN
		What is it?

					NELSON
We don't know. But it appeared the second
we lost contact with the expedition. We're
able to see it using spectral analysis.

					JOHN
It looks like a black hole. But it's
		different, somehow.

					NELSON
We believe in traveling back in time
we may have torn a hole into the very
      fabric of time itself.
				(beat)
And it's getting bigger. One hundred
      kilometers in diameter every second.

					JOHN
My God. It almost resembles a form of
      cancer.

					NELSON
It's as though the universe was un-creating
itself. We estimate in six days it'll be
large enough to swallow all matter, including
      earth.

					JOHN
The same amount of time it took to create
      it.

					NELSON
We've got to find out what's happened,
		John.

John gazes, hypnotized by the monstrous, swirling void.

					NELSON (CONT'D)
You said you wanted a chance to be a
decent father. If we don't repair the
damage to the time stream, this planet
will be pulverized out of existence. And
being a decent father won't matter
      anymore.

John turns to Nelson.

					JOHN
      It seems I don't have a choice.

      			NELSON
Right now, none of us do.

With an expression of hope, Nelson places a hand onto John's shoulder.

	 				NELSON
Come on. I'll introduce you to the
		rest of the team.

EXT. OUTER SPACE

A vast celestial landscape filled with stars. The planet Earth glitters
innocently. An ultra sleek spacecraft resembling the space shuttle
approaches earth orbit.

It FIRES its retro rockets and descends.

INT. SPACECRAFT

The helmeted PILOT ignites the engines once more.

A group of pebble size meteorites STREAK past the cockpit view screen.
Instantly a piece STRIKES the cockpit window. The glass CRACKS.

The pilot reacts instantly. He turns the throttles and veers his ship
out of the path of the meteor storm.

EXT. SPACECRAFT

Showers of meteorites POUND the hull. The space craft's rockets ignite.
It tries to escape the onslaught of spiraling space debris.

INT. COCKPIT – ON MONITOR

The words "HULL BREACH" flash across the screen.

BACK TO SCENE

The cockpit window continues to crack. STEAM EXPLODES from hanging
conduits. The ship rocks violently.

					COMPUTER VOICE (V.O.)
		Engine core breached. Abandon ship.
		Repeat, abandon ship.

An Airforce SOLDIER(30), appears in front of the cockpit window.

					SOLDIER
Captain, I'm sorry to cut your training
short, but that call you've been waiting
      for has come through.

WIDER, we see that we are in fact, inside a flight simulator.

EXT. FLIGHT SIMULATOR

The engines SHUTS DOWN. The cockpit window swivels open. The pilot
emerges.

He removes his helmet to reveal that he -- is a she. CAPTAIN ELIZABETH
PERRY(40). Stalwart in appearance, she manages to retain a feminine
quality despite the handicap of a marine style hair cut.

She walks down the flight simulator's ramp.

INT. VIDEO ROOM

Perry walks in. On the monitor behind her flash the words "INCOMING
CALL".

She touches a button on the counsel in front of her. The image of
Perry's FATHER(60), balding and frail in appearance, appears.

					PERRY
		Hi, dad.

					FATHER'S IMAGE
You know, I've spent almost an hour trying to
      get through to you?

					PERRY
Sorry. It's a security measure. All incoming
calls to the base have to be traced back to
source before they let them through.

					FATHER'S IMAGE
So, when will you be coming home?

      PERRY
      Actually, Dad, I won't be. Something's come
      up.

      			FATHER'S IMAGE
I see. How long will you be gone?

					PERRY
		I don't know, dad. I really don't.

					FATHER'S IMAGE
Let me guess. You can't tell me because
      it's top secret, right?

					PERRY
		That's right, I'm sorry.
					FATHER'S IMAGE
Well, that being the case there's someone
here who's been dying to say hi to you.

Running up to the video screen is DUKE. A large, very shaggy sheep dog
with eyes obstructed by even more hair.

					PERRY
		Hey Duke!

Duke signifies a hello by running his tongue across the video screen.
Perry's father wipes the saliva from the lens.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
				(laughs)
I think it's time you gave him a trim.

					FATHER'S IMAGE
You know, I haven't heard from you in
		nearly a year. I suppose you're calling
because wherever you're going… you might
		not be coming back.

Perry places her hand on the video screen.

					PERRY
		I love you, dad. I don't think I could
      leave without having said it.

					FATHER'S IMAGE
Just come back in one piece, kiddo.

					PERRY
I'll do my best. Bye, Dad.

The screen goes blank. She continues to stare at it. She then walks
off.

INT. TUNNEL

A jeep approaches the gate. Riding with two MP's is PETER YAZID (20), a
dark skinned, bespectacled young man of Egyptian descent.

With his backpack, he hops off the jeep. The MPs climb out as well and
lead him into the elevator.
INT. BRIEFING ROOM

John and Nelson stride in. Already waiting is FATHER DANIEL EGAN(50).
Bearded, with a patriarchal appearance and inviting smile.

                  NELSON
Doctor John Sheperd, Father Daniel Egan.
The Father is on loan from the Vatican.

John and Daniel shake hands.

      				NELSON (CONT'D)
Once we lost contact with the expedition,
the Vatican decided Father Daniel was to
be their replacement on our next mission.

      				JOHN
Just how did the Vatican become involved
      with this project?

      				DANIEL
The papal archives hold the most complete
records of Jerusalem during the time of
Christ. The Vatican agreed to hand over
all records from that period on the condition
that one representative from the church be
      allowed to accompany the mission.

      JOHN
Then I imagine this must be a thrill
for you, Father.

			DANIEL
The chance, however slight, of meeting
the single most important man in history
isn't a thrill, Doctor Sheperd, but a
privilege.

			NELSON
Father Daniel, let me remind you this
		is still a rescue operation.

			DANIEL
Yes, of course, General.

Yazid arrives. Standing behind him are the two plump MPs who brought
him to the base.

					NELSON
Gentlemen, this is Roger Yazid. He's a
linguistics expert from Caltech. He'll be
      accompanying you on the mission.

      			YAZID
General, you better have a pretty good
explanation as to why I was dragged out
in the middle of a very important
lecture.

      MP
We found him in a strip club.

			YAZID
Strip club, lecture hall, what's the
difference?

			MP
Students don't usually lap dance.

			YAZID
Hey, Frick and Frack, isn't there a
donut shop you two have to go to?

			NELSON
Mister Yazid, You were ordered back to
the base two days ago.

			YAZID
I don't see what the rush is. I'm not
due to go on a mission for another six
months.

					NELSON
Plans have changed Mister Yazid. You'll
      be leaving in three hours.

      			YAZID
		You mind telling me why?

					NELSON
You're now part of a rescue operation.
		Briefing's in an hour.
Clearly frustrated, Yazid grabs his backpack and heads out the door.

					JOHN
He seems like an unusual choice for this
      mission.

      			NELSON
Normally I'd agree. But apart from his
      photographic memory, he speaks thirty-six
      languages including ancient Arabic and
      Hebrew.
      		(beat)
It broke my heart giving him top secret
      clearance.

INT. JOHN'S QUARTERS - LATER

The phone RINGS. John lifts the receiver.

					OPERATOR
Doctor Sheperd, please hold. Your call's
		just been cleared.

INTERCUT – JOHN AND ANNEMARIE

					JOHN
Annemarie, it's me. Don't hang up.

					ANNEMARIE
		What do you want?

					JOHN
Listen, I don't have a lot of time.
I need to speak to Mark.

					ANNEMARIE
		He's already in bed.

					JOHN
		Then wake him.

					ANNEMARIE
You haven't said a word to him in
almost three months and now you
want to wake him up in the middle of
the night? You can just forget it.
					JOHN
		Annemarie, I don't know if I'll ever
have another chance to talk to him.
Please, I'm begging you, just this
once, let me talk to my son.

Annemarie pauses. She's clearly giving this some consideration.

She hangs up.

John is clearly stunned. He slowly puts down the receiver and walks
out.

INT. CONFERENCE ROOM

The team enter. Captain Perry walks over to Nelson and John.

				NELSON
John, this is Captain Elizabeth Perry.
She'll be piloting the Wells Two. We
were lucky enough to recruit her from
the test piloting center at Lockheed.
She'll be in command of the mission.

					JOHN
		Pleasure to meet you, Captain.

They shake hands.

					PERRY
I had the chance to look over your record,
Doctor. I have to say I'm impressed.

					JOHN
I'm relieved I meet with you and General
      Nelson's approval.

					PERRY
If you didn't, I can assure you, you
      wouldn't be on this mission.
      		(salutes Nelson)
      General.

She walks over to her seat. John raises a surprised eyebrow over the
remark.
					NELSON
		Let's be seated.

The team take their seats. The lights dim. A holographic image of a
landscape hovers in the center of the table.

                  NELSON (CONT'D)
The original expedition landed here, thirty
miles south-west of Jerusalem. We plan to
land you here, just twenty miles south from
      their original landing sight.

      			PERRY
We sent a preliminary probe to the site
and it's clear of any natural debris such
as rocks or boulders.

                  NELSON
Once you arrive you're to first attempt
contact with the expedition by radio. If
that fails, you're to proceed toward their
landing site and determine what's happened.

            DANIEL
Excuse me, General, but I'm naturally
curious. How exactly do we travel through
time?

			NELSON
We detonate a hydrogen bomb and implode
it. At which point you'll be traveling
inside the eye of the blast itself.

			YAZID
I suppose the next question is how do we
get back?

					NELSON
The Wells Two is equipped with a laser
      umbilical.

      			PERRY
It's the same technology used for laser
guided bombs. As we travel through the
time stream, the laser seeks out and locks
onto the command center's homing beacon.

					JOHN
		And if it fails?

					PERRY
		It won't.

					JOHN
		You seem pretty confident, Captain.

      			PERRY
I should. I helped design the Wells
      Two.

					NELSON
If there are no more questions, we launch
in two hours. Good luck to you all.

INT. FLIGHT ROOM

The team are in full gear -- their white astronaut suits    are bulky;
functional.

INT. CONTROL CENTER

A battery of computers flicker with rapid information.

INT. STERILIZATION CORRIDOR

Dimly lit. The team walks along a long tubular corridor. It pulsates
with a haunting red glow.

INT. CONTROL TOWER

A TECHNICIAN watches them on the MONITOR.

					TECHNICIAN
		They've just entered the sterilization
		chamber.

INT. TIME CHAMBER

The doors slide open. Ground crew escorts the group inside. John steps
forward with an astonished expression.

The WELLS TWO sits on its launch ramp. It's white, sleek and bullet-
shaped. No windows.

They approach the vessel. A Crewman attaches stepladders to the outside
of the ship.

INT. CONTROL TOWER

Nelson watches from the command center window.

INT. TIME CHAMBER

The crew climbs aboard the futuristic craft.

INT. WELLS TWO

Electronic panels line every section of bulkhead. Perry climbs into the
pilot's seat.

She attaches her oxygen hose to the feed line. It HISSES then LOCKS.

She throws a switch. Chrome throttles slowly rotate toward
her and LOCK INTO PLACE.

Another switch. The panels ignite WITH POWER.

John and Yazid sit beside one another. Daniel pulls out his Saint
Christopher medal and kisses it.

John smiles at him.

					DANIEL
		For luck.

INT. CONTROL CENTER

Nelson looks down at his watch.

                  TECHNICIAN
      General, Captain Perry reports all
systems five by five.

                  NELSON
All right. Lower the nuclear charge.

                  TECHNICIAN
      Lowering charge.

                  NELSON
Inform Wells Two, detonation in twenty
      seconds.

INT. TIME CHAMBER

Across the far side of the chamber -- a polished metal orb with nuclear
markings lowers into place.

Black monster cables cling from its reflective housing.

INT. CONTROL CENTER

DIGITAL TIMERS are primed at minus twenty seconds.

                  NELSON
      Set main charges.

Two TECHNICIANS sit across from each other. They each insert brightly
colored keys into a chrome plated box.

They turn both keys in unison.

                  TECHNICIAN#1
      Charges primed. Timers set.

                  NELSON
      Start countdown.

                  		TECHNICIAN#2
Twenty minus zero. Fifteen minus zero --

INT. TIME CHAMBER

The charge lies suspended inside titan plates attached to hydraulic
arms.

INT. WELLS TWO

The words "ten seconds minus zero" come through Perry's head gear.

Yazid breathes rapidly. Daniel; eyes closed recites a prayer to
himself. John closes his eyes as he braces for the detonation.

HIS HANDS grapple onto the sidebars of his seat.
INT. CONTROL CENTER

Technicians race to leverage themselves in various parts of the center.

                  TECHNICIAN
      Zero minus five seconds, four-

INT. WELLS TWO

Perry lowers the visor to her helmet.

INT. TIME CHAMBER

The nuclear charge hangs innocently.

                  TECHNICIAN
            (filtered)
      Three, two, one-

BOOM! The bomb EXPLODES! A FLASH OF WHITE LIGHT floods the chamber.

INT. WELLS TWO

The SHOCKWAVE pounds the ship.

INT. CONTROL CENTER

The walls RUMBLE. Chunks of ceiling tumble to the floor. A Technician
leaps out of the way as a piece RAMS onto console.

INT. TIME CHAMBER

The explosion tries to expand. The hydraulic arms compress the blast
onto itself.

The FLASH of WHITE LIGHT changes color as it's crushed. It bleeds into
a pitch black, SWIRLING VOID.

The Wells' docking latches DETACH. She slingshots across the launch
ramp – right at the center of the spiraling vortex.

INT. CONTROL CENTER

The center continues to TREMBLE.

                  NELSON
      Activate laser umbilical.

INT. TIME CHAMBER

A cannon-like apparatus is lowered into the chamber. It fires a high-
intensity, shimmering, blue LASER BEAM at the rear of the Wells Two.

It STRIKES a receiving plate at the ship's REAR. The Wells Two streaks
through the portal. The opening SHRINKS to the size of a pin hole. The
ghostly blue glow from the laser umbilical SHIMMERS.

INT. CONTROL CENTER

The quake subsides.

                  TECHNICIAN
      Laser umbilical operating.

                  NELSON
How long before they reach the time
      coordinates?

      			TECHNICIAN
      Ten seconds and counting.

INT. TIME VORTEX

The Wells rockets through a mammoth sea of LIGHT. Plasma energy POUNDS
at its hull as it travels through the ocean of time.

INT. WELLS

The ship rocks violently.

EXT. MIDDLE OF NOWHERE - DAY

Quiet and serene. A pin-sized dot of energy appears. It GROWS into a
swirling dance of light and sand.

The Wells EMERGES from the time stream. The hole shrinks back to its
original size.

Behind the Wells Two, the crystal blue, laser umbilical flickers with
an almost tranquil beauty.

INT. WELLS TWO

The engines POWER DOWN. Perry unbuckles herself.

					PERRY
		Is everyone all right?

					DANIEL
		I'm fine.

					JOHN
		Still in once piece.

					PERRY
		Mister Yazid? You all right?

ANGLE ON YAZID

He quickly takes off his flight helmet – and throws up into it.

					PERRY
I'll take that as a resounding "yes."

EXT. WELLS TWO – NIGHT

The hatch rotates open. John and Daniel are the first to climb out.
Both men gaze with wonder at the night sky

WIDER

Clusters of stars glitter above. Moonlit clouds hang suspended in the
night.

      				DANIEL
Magnificent. Dear Lord, I bear witness to
      Thy Glory.

Yazid climbs out of the Wells Two. He tosses his helmet aside and wipes
his face.

INT. WELLS TWO – NIGHT

Perry turns on the radio.

					PERRY
Wells Two to Wells One, do you
      copy, over?

No response, only STATIC comes through over the speakers.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
Wells Two to Wells One, do you copy,
      over?

John climbs back in.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
		How's Yazid doing?

					JOHN
Just some air sickness but otherwise
		he's all right.

					PERRY
I'm not picking up the expedition's
emergency beacon. Get your gear, Doctor.
We'll be moving out in the rover.

EXT. WELLS TWO – NIGHT

The cargo hatch on the side of the ships lifts open. The ROVER, a six
wheeled all terrain vehicle emerges from the Wells Two and drives down
the ramp.

PERRY is at the controls. The entire team is dressed in period
clothing. As she drives away the hatch to the Wells Two closes.

EXT. ROAD – THE ROVER – NIGHT

Perry drives the multi terrain vehicle across the barren, black
landscape – with no headlights.

INT. THE ROVER – MOVING - NIGHT

The Rover's windshield acts as a night vision apparatus. The desert
road is reproduced with clarity in the form of a DIGITAL LANDSCAPE.

					JOHN
How long before we reach the expedition's
		landing site?

					PERRY
About an hour. Sun should be up by then.

EXT. THE DUNES – DAWN

The rover maneuvers across the desert landscape with ease.

EXT. REMOTE REGION – DAY

The rover pulls to a stop. The hatch opens. Perry, John, Yazid and
Daniel climb out.

Perry scans the area with a palm device.

					PERRY
Not a trace. It's as though they were
      never here.

      			JOHN
      Where's the expedition's landing site?

      			PERRY
      You're standing in it.

John and the others look around the area, startled. Perry aims her
device at the ground.

					JOHN
		What are you doing?

					PERRY
I'm scanning for high energy residue. Once
a ship emerges from the time stream, it
leaves a plasma trail even after its gone.

					YAZID (0.S.)
		Captain!

Perry, John and Daniel run over to Yazid.

EXT. TOP OF HILL - DAY

Yazid stands at its apex. The team climb up to him. On the other side,
a gruesome sight greets them.

REVERSE ANGLE

A piece of fuselage from a time ship. It lies on it's side with its
other half missing.

      				JOHN
I think we just found your missing
ship. At least a piece of it.

					DANIEL
		What could have happened?

Slowly, they climb down and stand before the wreckage.

      				PERRY
The time stream must have closed just as
it was emerging from the vortex.
      			(beat)
She's been sliced clean in half.

      				YAZID
      	But where's the crew?

      				PERRY
Wait out here. Doctor, come with me.
Yazid, go back to the rover and
get the video camera. I want this on
      tape.

      				YAZID
      	Yes, ma'am.

Yazid hurries back to the rover. Perry and John climb inside the wreck.

INT. WELLS ONE WRECKAGE – NIGHT

Perry runs her hand across the inner rim of the fuselage.

CLOSE-UP – INNER LINING

Sliced to a perfect polish. Perry's fingers even cast a reflection.

INT. DEEPER WITHIN THE WRECKAGE – NIGHT

A light shines onto torn panel. WIDER, Perry sifts through the debris
as John looks on.

					PERRY
		Dammit. It isn't here.

					JOHN
		What are you looking for?

					PERRY
The flight data recorder. If we can find
it, we might be able to piece together
what happened to the other half of the
		ship.

John's eyes are drawn to an object that lays on the fight deck.

He shines a light onto it.

					JOHN
		Captain.

Perry walks over to John. They discover the sleeve of a flight suit
that lies on the deck.

John leans down. He shines a flashlight into the opening of the sleeve.
The light REVEALS an arm still inside it.

Perry recoils in disgust. She turns away from the abhorrent sight.

EXT. WELLS ONE WRECKAGE – NIGHT

Perry and John emerge. Yazid continues to tape the wreckage site.
CAMERA'S POV

Perry steps into his line of sight.

					PERRY
		Turn it off.

					YAZID (O.S.)
		Ma'am?

					PERRY
		I said turn it off.

BACK TO SCENE

Yazid switches the camera off.

					DANIEL
		Captain? What's wrong?

Visibly shaken, Perry says nothing. She stands with her back to the
others.

John emerges from the wreck.

      DANIEL (CONT'D)
		Doctor? What did you find?

					JOHN
		More questions than answers, Father.

Daniel and Yazid gaze at the metal husk that once was the Wells One.

Perry looks out at the desert. LIGHTING and THUNDER crackle in the
distance. John stands beside her.

					JOHN
You knew some of the crew?

					PERRY
				(nods)
Yes. I trained with them. They were
      good	people.

					YAZID
		Captain!
John and Perry race over to Yazid who holds up the portable
transceiver.

					PERRY
		What is it?

					YAZID
Something's coming through on the radio,
      listen.

The sound of three BEEPS followed by a single low frequency TONE
repeats over and over on the radio.

					DANIEL
		What is it?

Perry turns up the volume on the receiver.

					PERRY
		That's the expedition's emergency beacon.

					JOHN
I don't understand. How is it we're now
able to pick up their transmission?

					PERRY
If their transponder was damaged during
the crash, they may have found a way to
repair it. Either way, we've got to home
      in on that signal.

      			JOHN
      What's the distance?

      			PERRY
Thirty miles, south west. We can reach them
      in just under an hour.

She quickly unhooks her backpack and opens a small, hidden compartment.
From it she extracts a black, cylindrical device with explosive
markings.

					JOHN
		What's that?

					PERRY
We can't leave the wreckage here intact.
		It has to be destroyed.

She races back over to charred wreck and attaches the explosive device
within a torn section of bulkhead.

Perry inserts the key into the mechanism and turns it counter
clockwise. A digital readout appears on the explosive's faceplate. It
counts backward from five minutes.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
		Let's move out.

INT. ROVER – NIGHT

The Wells team climbs back inside the rover. Perry gets behind the
driver's wheel.

					DANIEL
Captain, if that section of the expedition's
ship crashed landed here, were do you
suppose the rest of it went?

					PERRY
      I don't know, Father.

She starts up the engine and looks out at the barren landscape.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
Let's hope wherever it is, it's never
      found.

ANGLE ON ROVER

As Perry races away at full speed the expedition's wreckage EXPLODES
behind the hill. A blinding torrent of FIRE and SMOKE shoots up to the
sky.

EXT. JERUSALEM DESERT – DAY

Desolate and bleak. A LIZARD crawls past a large rock. The rock MOVES.

WIDER, the rock is pulverized. A pin size hole of LIGHT appears. It
widens.

A SHIP emerges from the time stream. Its shape resembles the Wells Two,
but is profoundly more primitive in design. Rivets cover its outer
hull.

It GRINDS to a halt. On its side is the emblem of THE GERMAN SWASTIKA.

The hatch opens on the side. It slams down onto the ground. A Nazi
SOLDIER wearing gray desert combat fatigues emerges from the ship.

The soldier is COLONEL ALOIS BRUNNER(40). He is a man with intimidating
features and brooding eyes; signs of a battle hardened officer.

Behind him NAZI TROOPS emerge from his ship - all clad in desert style
uniforms and heavily armed. They surround the area.

Brunner turns his attention to a swirling tempest of sand.

Specks of BRIGHT LIGHTS by the hundreds appear. From them, more ships
emerge from the time stream. They all have the German Swastika embossed
on their sides.

As they land, the doors open. Hundreds of troops climb out from the
ships. They take positions in and around the area.

OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT

Brunner watches as a German ships break through the time stream. They
resemble children emerging violently from wombs of light.

A column of German troops wave their caps and cheer as they watch more
of their ships arrive.

The ear-deafening BLAST from the storm of WIND and SAND competes with
the eager cheers from the troops. They both reach a crescendo:

EXT. DESERT ROAD – DAY

The Wells' rover speeds across the bleak terrain.
INT. ROVER – MOVING

The expedition's emergency beacon SIGNAL repeats over the radio
speakers.

YAZID
Captain, I'm picking up something on
      the radar.

EXT. DESERT ROAD – DAY

The rover comes to a full stop.

INT. ROVER – DAY

Perry looks down at the radar.

INSERT - RADAR SCREEN

The photo-sonic outline of a large MASS appears.

					PERRY
		What is it?

					YAZID
		I don't know. But it's heading right
at us and the radar's clocked it at
      one hundred miles an hour.

Perry turns a switch on the rover's console. The windshield alternates
to a hue that allows clear sight of the oncoming object.

EXT. ROVER – ON WINDSHIELD'S REFLECTION

A MASSIVE SAND STORM heads right at them.

INT. ROVER

The team looks at the sight, stunned.

					YAZID
		Oh my God.

Perry starts up the engine.

					JOHN
How fast can this thing move?!

					PERRY
We're gonna find out! Hang on!

She steps on the pedal.

EXT. DESERT ROAD – THE ROVER

It's engines REV WITH FULL POWER. Perry turns the vehicle in the
opposite direction of the storm and races away at maximum speed.

INT. ROVER – MOVING

Perry turns the steering column hard right.

THE ROVER

Skids off to the side of the road at break-neck speed. It bolts right
down a steep hill. The hurricane of sand follows with a DEAFENING ROAR.

The torrent of WIND and SAND hurtles chunks of solid rock at the
rover's armor plating.

Side panels that protect its tires are BLOWN OFF.

The vehicle makes another desperate turn as it continues to outrun the
killer storm.

ROVER'S POV

Black, swirling grit makes vision impossible.

INT. ROVER – CONTINUOUS

The night vision apparatus fails! The windshield goes black. Perry
quickly switches to normal view.

She tries desperately to see where she's going. Suddenly, she spots
something.

PERRY'S POV

A BOULDER appears briefly through the vicious maelstrom.
REACTION – PERRY

She turns the steering column hard left to avoid the massive chunk of
rock.

THE ROVER

COLLIDES against the mammoth stone. The ferocious impact knocks it onto
its side.

It skids then tumbles violently down a jagged terrain.

Its hull SMASHES against rock after rock until it SLAMS to a dead stop.

The storm passes overhead until:

EXT. GERMAN ENCAMPMENT - DAY

Brunner walks along a path of time ships. All opened, WE SEE Panzer
tanks emerge and drive down ramps. Others have supply trucks and troops
that march out.

INT. BRUNNER'S TENT

Brunner strides in. He unbuttons his uniform. He wipes the sweat from
his forehead with a handkerchief.

                  VOICE (O.S.)
I underestimated the climate of this
      region.

Brunner turns, startled. Standing in the corner of his tent is SS
Officer FRANZ HOESSLER (50). Thin, with unassuming features one would
associate with a librarian. Were it not for his SS uniform, he would
never warrant attention.

                  BRUNNER
It seems privacy is as rare as water.

                  HOESSLER
We must all make sacrifices. We must
set an example for the men.

Brunner continues unbuttoning his uniform.

                  BRUNNER
      What is it you want?

Hoessler tosses a leather pouch onto Brunner's desk. Brunner stares at
it with a cautious gaze.

                  HOESSLER
To be opened upon arrival.

Brunner reaches for it. He opens the pouch; reads the contents.

                  BRUNNER
      So the rumors were true.

Hoessler lights up a cigarette. He exhales a cloud of smoke from his
lungs. Brunner continues reading the orders.

                  HOESSLER
Tell me, Herr Brunner. Does the thought of
capturing the son of God frighten you?

                  BRUNNER
		Myths do not frighten me.

Hoessler smiles. He sits down in spite of Brunner's disapproving stare.

					HOESSLER
I tell you. It is no accident that a
time ship from the future fell into
		our hands so easily.

					BRUNNER
The Americans will send another ship in
search of their comrades, if they haven't
already.

					HOESSLER
I have confidence you'll eliminate that
problem with your usual cold efficiency,
      should the need arise.

Hoessler sees the photo of a woman on Brunner's desk. He smiles as he
picks up the photo.

					HOESSLER (CONT'D)
Your wife. She must have been a
      good woman.

      			BRUNNER
		Put it down.

      		HOESSLER
		I was merely –-

					BRUNNER
I won't tell you again. Put it down.
      Now.

Hoessler places the photo back onto the desk.

					BRUNNER (CONT'D)
Is there anything else you wanted?

					HOESSLER
		Not at this time.

					BRUNNER
		Then you may go.

Hoessler casually rises out of the chair. He heads for the exit but
turns back one last time to Brunner.

					HOESSLER
Tell me, Colonel. What if this so called
Son of God is not a myth. What will you
		do then?

					BRUNNER
		My duty.

Hoessler cracks a devilish grin. He walks out. Brunner's aide,
LIEUTENANT AUGUST JOSS (20), a picture of Aryan perfection, enters the
tent.

					JOSS
You need to be careful around him.

					BRUNNER
I would have slit his throat, but they'd
only send another one. There seems to be
an endless supply of ambitious serpents.
Brunner hands the orders to Joss, who reads it. Joss becomes visibly
shaken. Brunner pours Joss a drink. He hands it to him.

					BRUNNER (CONT'D)
I never asked you if you were a religious
      man.

					JOSS
		A little, I suppose.

					BRUNNER
Tell me. Where did you learn to speak
the language of the Jews so fluently?

					JOSS
My father worked for an oil refinery
outside of Jordan when I was ten. I spent
many years there until we moved back to
Germany and I joined the Hitler Youth
      Corps.

					BRUNNER
Then your mission is as equally important
as mine. I am the sword of the Reich, but
you must be its voice. When I speak to the
people of this time you will translate my
		words exactly. Is that understood?

					JOSS
		Yes, Colonel.

					BRUNNER
		That will be all, Lt.

					JOSS
				(salutes)
		Yes, Sir.

He turns to walk away but looks back at Brunner.

      BRUNNER
      Something else Lt.?

      JOSS
Do you think we have the right?

					BRUNNER
		The right?

					JOSS
To do what we've been ordered to do?

					BRUNNER
For us right and wrong plays no part
in our mission. We're creatures of duty.
      Never forget that.

He stares at the map of the middle east that hangs on the wall.

					BRUNNER (CONT'D)
The Fuhrer wishes the city of Jerusalem
to be captured within seventy-two hours.

He turns to Joss.

      BRUNNER (CONT'D)
It will be taken in twenty-four.

					JOSS
		Yes, Sir.

He swallows his drink and heads out the door. Brunner turns his
brooding gaze back to the map of Judea.

The WIND HOWLS.

EXT. ROVER CRASH SITE – NIGHT

A night sky glistens overhead. The storm has passed. Rock and debris
cover the vehicle.

EXT. ROVER - NIGHT

Its hull is partially crushed from the violent impact. Explosive bolts
IGNITE and BLAST the hatch open.

John emerges. He holds onto a wounded Daniel, who shouts out in pain.

Yazid and Perry stumble out of the vehicle. John runs his hand across
Daniel's arm.

					JOHN
You've got a dislocated shoulder, Father.
I'm going to have to force it back into
      place.

					DANIEL
I presume it's going to hurt?

      JOHN
I'd never lie to a priest.

      			DANIEL
Very well, Doctor. I only ask that you
      make it quick because --

John CRACKS the shoulder into place. Daniel screams out.

					DANIEL (CONT'D)
				(exhausted)
		That was certainly quick.

John walks over to Yazid who lies on the ground with a stunned
expression.

					JOHN
		Yazid, you all right?

					YAZID
Tell me the truth, Doc. Is the rest of
		my body still with me?

					JOHN
		In my professional opinion, yes.

John grabs Yazid's hand and sits him up.

					YAZID
		Just checking.

John looks over at Perry who sits on the ground holding her forehead
with her hand. John hurries over to her. He moves her hand away from
her wound.

CLOSE-UP –PERRY'S WOUND

A red and purple scrape but little blood.

BACK TO SCENE

					JOHN
		How do you feel?

      				PERRY
Never mind me. How are the others?

John opens the medical kit and removes a spray and a bandage.

					JOHN
		They're all right. Yazid's a bit shaken
      up, though.

John sprays her wound. As he attempts to place the bandage on her
forehead, she pushes his hand away to get a better view of the
destroyed vehicle.

					YAZID
That was a hell of a ride, Captain. You
sure you never drove a cab in New York?

					PERRY
It's good to see you're still in good
spirits, Mister Yazid. You'll need it.
I want everyone to break out their
survival gear. We're heading out on
		foot.

EXT. GERMAN ENCAMPMENT – NIGHT

Troops stand before the command tent. Brunner emerges, illuminated by
the harsh arc lights above.

					BRUNNER
Tomorrow you will take part in the most
      important military campaign any soldier
has been privileged to undertake. Tomorrow
when the morning sun greets you, you will
not only become a part of history, you
will be creating it. Tomorrow is such a
      day.

      			BRUNNER (CONT'D)
I have been given the honor of leading
you into the capturing of the most
recognized city in history, Jerusalem. It
is a city that has never known peace. Its
stones are carved from hatred, its walls
cemented with hypocrisy and its foundation
laid with blood. We shall bring to its
people the one true savior. He will bring
order. From this time forward, it will not
be a city remembered for its legends, but
for the day the future offspring of a
superior race chose to claim its destiny.
Two thousand years from now, your names and
that of our Fuhrer shall be known through
      out every corner of creation.

He raises his arm to his men.

					BRUNNER (CONT'D)
		Heil Hitler.

The troops cheer as they return the salute.

ANGLE ON HOESSLER

His eyes widen with an almost religious fervor. He raises his arm and
salutes.

EXT. DESOLATE REGION – NIGHT

Perry scans the terrain with a palm sized radio unit.

INSERT – RADIO UNIT SCREEN

A red arrow flickers. It points straight ahead.

BACK TO SCENE

					PERRY
		Signal's getting stronger.

The team crowds around the receiver. Perry looks in the distance.

THEIR POV

A baby LAMB stands atop a hill silhouetted by a soft glow that emanates
from the other side. It scurries away.

BACK TO SCENE

The team races to the hill's apex.

EXT. HILLTOP - NIGHT

They reach the hill's peak. They stand in awe at what waits below.

REVERSE ANGLE

A city stands before them. Lights from oil lamps flicker from open
windows.

					YAZID
		Tell me I'm not dreaming.

					DANIEL
		You're not, Mister Yazid.
				(beat)
      It's Jerusalem.

Perry looks down at the receiver. She turns her attention back to the
biblical city.

					PERRY
Signal's coming from there. Lets move.
      We don't have much time.

They descend.

EXT. ROAD TO JERUSALEM – DAY

Caravans line the road. Ox drawn carts number by the dozens.

ANGLE ON THE TEAM

The walk along the road with the caravan.

YAZID

Walks beside a camel that carries an Arab woman. He looks up at her and
smiles.

The camel spits in his face. The Woman laughs.

					JOHN
Looks like love at first sight to me.

Yazid wipes the dripping goo from his face.

EXT.GATES OF JERUSALEM – DAY

On the side of the road, ROMAN SOLDIERS guard the entry.

Roman troops on horses gallop into the city.

EXT. STREETS OF JERUSALEM – DAY

The team looks at the crowded streets.

					DANIEL
		Amazing. Utterly amazing.

Several passerbys stare at them.

					YAZID
The locals seem to have taken a slight
      interest in you guys.

					DANIEL
Not surprising when you consider how light
      our skin is.

Perry opens a sackcloth. Inside is the receiver. She takes a quick
look.

					PERRY
				(points)
		Signal's coming from that direction.

They walk past the crowds.

EXT. DOWN THE STREET – DAY

Perry aims the device at a small hut. The RECEIVER'S distance reads
thirty feet.

EXT. HUT – ON ENTRANCE – DAY

They stand outside the large domicile. The scanner flickers wildly.

					PERRY
		Signal's coming from inside.

With caution, they enter.

INT. HUT – DAY

Perry aims the receiver at an adjoining room. She looks down at the
device's readout.

CLOSE-UP – SCANNER

Electronic pulses indicate a strong signal emanates from the room.

BACK TO SCENE

Perry turns of the receiver and puts it in her bag. She gestures the
others to follow her inside.

INT. ROOM – DAY

The team enters. They discover a MAN resting on a bed of straw, lying
on his side.

					PERRY
I'm Captain Elizabeth Perry. We're here
		to rescue you.

The Man turns over and looks up at Perry. He's an elderly ARAB MAN.
Frightened at the Wells Team's presence, he stumbles out of his bed and
recoils in fear.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
		Dammit. Yazid!

Yazid races inside.
					PERRY (CONT'D)
Tell him we won't hurt him.

Yazid speaks to the elderly Man. He tries to calm him.

John turns his attention to a large cart in the corner of the room. The
top is covered with burlap. He pulls it away.

Inside the cart are pieces of the Wells One wreckage. A small radio
unit with red lights pulsates repeatedly. With a disappointed look, he
turns to Perry.

					JOHN
Looks like you found your emergency beacon.

					PERRY
He must have found the expedition's
wreckage before we did, grabbed whatever
he thought he could sell and brought it
here. Yazid, ask him if he saw survivors.

Yazid asks the question.

					YAZID
He says he didn't see a thing.

As the old Man rambles on in Arabic, John rummages further through the
pile of mangled debris.

From the twisted fragments of fuselage he discovers a rectangular,
orange colored box with white stripes printed on both sides.

He holds it up to her.

					JOHN
		Captain.

Perry quickly grabs the device. She holds it in her hands as though
possessing a holy relic.

					PERRY
		It's the expedition's flight recorder.
				(smiles)
      It's still intact.

She turns to Yazid.
      				PERRY (CONT'D)
Pack the flight data recorder and
      the emergency beacon. We're leaving.

EXT. HUT – DAY

The Wells Team emerges. With a determined expression, Perry leads the
way.

      		PERRY
We've got to find our way back to the
ship. Without the rover we'll have to
      make it back on foot.

					YAZID
I don't mean to sound negative but is
it me or does walking through tens of
      miles of blazing, scorpion infested
desert sound like a desperate plan?

Perry stops and turns to him.

					PERRY
		Mister Yazid, the information contained
on the flight recorder gives us our only
chance to repair the timeline. If
necessary, you will crawl back to the
      ship.

She moves on. Yazid raises a surprised eyebrow.

					YAZID
		Just asking.

EXT. DESERT - DAY

Three Roman soldiers on horseback patrol the area. The Leader raises
his hand and signals the horses to stop.

With a Curious gaze, he dismounts from horse.

The noises come from over a hill above him. With caution he climbs to
the top.

The German soldiers scatter and race to the top of the hill -- their
guns drawn.

ride off. Nazi soldiers reach the top of the hill and OPEN FIRE.

A ROMAN SOLDIER

Is hit in the back and killed. He falls off his horse.

MACHINE GUN FIRE rips across the sand with merciless force. The second
Roman soldier is struck in the back of his head.

Blood explodes from his wounds as he topples off his horse and lands
onto the ground with a powerful impact.

The third Roman soldier is fired upon. BULLETS find their mark. The
Roman is struck in the back with multiple GUNSHOTS.

Wounded, he still manages to gallop away.

EXT. JERUSALEM MARKETPLACE – DAY

John, Perry, Daniel and Yazid head toward the city gates.

The wounded Roman soldier rides through the crowd. Weak from loss of
blood he falls from the saddle and onto the ground.

Women scream at the bloodied figure. A group of Roman Centurions race
over to their wounded comrade.

ANGLE ON JOHN

He manages to catch a brief glance at the bleeding soldier.

					PERRY
		Doctor?

JOHN'S POV

The Roman's body is riddled with bullet holes.

BACK TO SCENE

Perry stands beside John and looks on.

					PERRY
		What's wrong?

					JOHN
That soldier who fell off his horse.
		He's been shot.

					DANIEL
That's impossible. You must be mistaken.

					JOHN
Father, I know bullet wounds when I
      see them.

ANGLE ON DYING ROMAN

He gasps as he speaks to his fellow Centurion

ANGLE ON YAZID

He steps forward and listens.

					PERRY
		What's he saying?

					YAZID
Doesn't make any sense. Something about
strangers dressed in black… hundreds of
them… invisible swords that cut through
		men… invasion.

					PERRY
Whatever it is we're not waiting around.
		Let's move.

The Roman Soldier spits up blood and dies.

EXT. GATES OF JERUSALEM – DAY

The Wells Team arrives. Romans push them back along with crowds of men,
women and children.

The city gates are being sealed. Roman troops, fully armed, ride out of
the city to confront the enemy.

					DANIEL
If they're closing the gates that means
      the city's under attack.

					JOHN
Father, is there another way out of here?

					DANIEL
We can try the south gates.

					PERRY
		Let's go.

They race through the streets.

THE ROMAN COMMANDER

Watches as alien invaders, the likes of which he's never seen,
approach.

The SOUND of TANKS GROWS. The ground beneath the horses trembles as the
German attack force marches closer.

Several Roman horses, frightened from the growing SOUND of Panzer tanks
SQUEAL and slip from the ranks.

The Roman Commander turns and shouts at them. The soldiers pull the
horses back in formation.

The Roman Commander looks back at the German advance.

BRUNNER raises his hand. The tanks stop. Their turrets aim at the
column of Roman troops.
WIDER

Both forces, past and future stand before one another, silent. The
Roman Commander raises his sword. He SHOUTS to his troops.

The masses of men and horses charge down the hill in attack formation.

ANGLE ON BRUNNER

He watches, fascinated perhaps by their blind courage.

THE ROMANS

Advance with terrifying speed.

					JOSS
		Fire, Sir?

Brunner doesn't respond. He continues to watch with utter astonishment
as his enemy draws closer.

Joss looks at the charging horses with an uneasy glance. The POUNDING
of the HOOVES upon the ground intensifies.

					JOSS (CONT'D)
		Fire, Sir?

Still no response. The Romans are only seconds away.

					JOSS (CONT'D)
		Sir!

					BRUNNER

THE TANKS

Unleash a volley of FIREBALLS.

charges at the Nazi invaders. Their Swords drawn, they ride through the
German front line.

The Roman soldiers thrust their swords at German troops who OPEN FIRE.
Bullets rip through their chests and heads.

With the Roman advance obliterated, Brunner signals his tanks to
advance.

As he's driven pass a dying soldier, he removes his Luger, cocks the
hammer and fires off a round into the Roman soldier's head.

He casually places the gun back into his holster as he drives past the
body.

turrets at the gates.

INTERCUT - THE TANK COMMANDER AND BRUNNER as they speak to one another
on the radio.

					BRUNNER
		Are the south gates sealed?

					TANK COMMANDER
		Yes, Herr Colonel.

					BRUNNER
		Open them.

					TANK COMMANDER
		Yes, sir!

He turns a switch on his radio.

					TANK COMMANDER (CONT'D)
All units. Open fire. I say again, open
		fire.

With ferocity, the tanks BLAST the gates open.

EXT. STREETS OF JERUSALEM - THE SOUTH GATES – DAY

The gates are obliterated into thousands of pieces.

ANGLE ON JOHN

The concussion knocks him to the ground along with Perry, Yazid and
Daniel.

Romans lie on the ground, dead. Steam seeps from their bodies as their
charred remains burn.

John rises to his feet. Dazed from the explosion, he stands before the
shattered opening.

REACTION – JOHN

Through black smoke, he sees the enemy for the first time.
JOHN'S POV

German soldiers enter the city. They shoot Roman soldiers on sight.

We have to find a way out of the city!

They race through the streets.

ROMAN SOLDIERS make a run for it but they're mowed down by GUNFIRE.

EXT. MAIN ENTRANCE TO JERUSALEM – DAY

The gates are BLASTED INTO RUBBLE. Brunner emerges through the SMOKE
and ASH with an almost spectral appearance.

Roman soldiers fire off arrows from above. Several strike German troops
killing them.

The small victory lasts only seconds as the German soldiers aim their
machine guns above and OPEN FIRE, killing the Roman troops.
Their bodies drop like flies onto the ground.

EXT. STREET MARKET – DAY

A tank shell strikes and EXPLODES overhead. Debris falls onto the

FIRE.

EXT. THE EAST GATES – DAY

The Wells team races through the panicking crowds.
					PERRY
They're blocking off all the entrances
      to the city!

					DANIEL
Captain, the Gihon river runs beneath
Jerusalem. Maybe we can escape through
          one of aqueducts!

					JOHN
Father, this city's been rebuilt dozens
of times! Those aqueducts may not even
      exist!

					DANIEL
I spent years researching the records
of this city, Doctor. They do exist.

Perry quickly reaches into her survival gear and pulls out a handgun.
She cocks the hammer.

					PERRY
Right now I'm willing to take whatever
chance we can get. Lead the way, Father.

EXT. STREET CORNER – DAY

Daniel leads the team through narrow streets. They turn the corner and
run into three German STORM TROOPERS.

Immediately they're surrounded. One of the German soldiers stands in
Perry's way.

The lead Storm Trooper uses the tip of his machinegun to lift Perry's
skirt.

John, Daniel and Yazid look on, helpless.

Perry's face swells with anger. Eyes down, she looks at the ground,
trying not to provoke a fight.

The German Soldier smiles. This time he places the tip of his
machinegun under Perry's chin and lifts up her head.

He reaches for Perry's breast. Perry recoils in anger. With lighting
speed she instantly pulls out her pistol and FIRES off one round at
each soldier.
The BULLETS tear through all three Storm Troopers killing them
instantly. Their bodies slam onto the ground from the sudden impact.

John, Daniel and Yazid are stunned at Perry's lighting ferocity.

					YAZID
You never played with Barbie dolls did
		you.

					PERRY
Try G.I Joe. Get their guns.

John and Yazid grab the dead soldier's weapons. Perry takes hand
grenades from their belts and puts them in her bag. They make a run for
it.

EXT. JERUSALEM MARKET AREA – DAY

John, Perry, Yazid and Daniel arrive. Directly across from them is a
cave-like opening.

      			DANIEL
Captain, there's the entrance to the
aqueduct.

				PERRY
		Let's go.

They race toward the opening to the aqueduct. Perry HEARS A SCREAM.
She looks over her shoulder. Crowds of civilians are being shot
indiscriminately by a sadistic German soldier

PERRY'S POV

The soldier drags a man and his child from the crowd and shoves them
both to the ground.

The man pleads for his life. He uses his body to shield his little
girl.

BACK TO SCENE

Perry looks back at the others.

						PERRY
You go on ahead! I'll be right behind
		you!

						JOHN
		Captain!

						PERRY
		Move!

John, Yazid and Daniel make it to the aqueduct's entrance.

Perry races towards the helpless father and child.

						PERRY
Let them go you son of a bitch!

The soldier turns, startled by the sight of an aggressive woman --
pointing a gun at him.

Unimpressed he aims his machinegun at her. Perry opens fire killing him
instantly.

The Man and his child cry with relief from the terrifying experience.

Perry turns and races toward the aqueduct. Across from her more German
troops arrive, having seen the shooting.

They unleash a volley of gunfire. Perry leaps behind an overturned food
wagon for cover. Bullets tear holes through the wood, just missing her.

ANGLE ON JOHN

Along with Yazid they fire from the aqueduct's opening and keep the
Germans at bay.

BACK TO PERRY

A German Storm trooper charges at her. She points her machinegun at him
and pulls the trigger. Nothing happens. Her gun's empty!

Perry stumbles to the ground as the German soldier points his
machinegun at her. With a defiant look she watches as the Soldier aims
and gets ready to fire.

A sudden burst of BULLETS cuts the German soldier down, saving her.
Startled, she looks to see where the bullets came from.

PERRY'S POV

She sees her savior –- John.

						JOHN
		Run! Now!

BACK TO SCENE

Perry races toward the entrance as John and Yazid fire into the growing
mass of German troops.

She leaps into the entrance of the aqueduct. German soldiers make their
way toward the opening.

CLOSE-UP – PERRY'S BAG

It's left behind. The palm video camera is fully exposed –- along with
the flight data recorder.

INT. AQUEDUCT – DAY

The Wells Team charges down the length of the tunnel. The surging river
that feeds the city ROARS beneath them.

INT. DEEPER WITHIN THE AQUEDUCT

The Team arrives at the tunnel's end. Steel bars block their escape.

						PERRY
We'll have to dive underneath and swim
      the rest of the way!

						YAZID
Doc, I have a serious fear of water!

      				JOHN
      I'm not a psychologist, sorry!
He shoves Yazid into the deluge of water. Nazi BULLETS tear through
sections of the tunnel.

INT. WATER

John holds onto Yazid as the current pulls them both underneath the
bars and to freedom.

THEIR POV

Above them, German soldiers aim their guns and FIRE into the water.

BACK TO SCENE

The deadly projectiles STREAK through the water around them. They miss
by mere inches.

EXT. JERUSALEM CITY WALLS – THE RIVER – DAY

From the roaring waters emerge four bodies. They're carried away from
the city by the current. It's John, Perry, Daniel and Yazid.

EXT. SHORELINE – DAY

Perry and Daniel are first to make it to shore, followed by John and
Yazid.

Yazid touches the side of his face. He looks down at his hand. There's
blood.

					YAZID
I've been shot! Oh God! I'm gonna die!

John inspects the wound.

					JOHN
The bullet only grazed you. You'll
          survive.

					YAZID
		They could have killed me!

He looks back at the city in anger.

					YAZID (CONT'D)
		Nazi pricks!

EXT. ROMAN GARRISON – DAY

Nazi troops stand guard outside the garrison. The bodies of Roman
soldiers litter the streets.

EXT. JERUSALEM STREETS – DAY

German troops lead Roman prisoners away. Brunner calls one of his
OFFICERS.

					OFFICER
		Sir?

					BRUNNER
		What are you doing?

					OFFICER
		Taking prisoners, Sir.

					BRUNNER
No prisoners. I want them all executed.

The Officer is clearly reluctant but he yields to his superior.

					OFFICER
Yes Sir. I'll arrange a firing squad—

					BRUNNER
No. Shoot them here. Right now.

					OFFICER
		Sir?

					BRUNNER
Leave the bodies out in the open. I want
these people to know what to expect if
      they attempt to fight us.

The Officer shouts to his men. They form a single row. The Roman
prisoners face their firing squad with hopeless expressions.

					OFFICER
		Ready! Aim! Fire!

A hail of BULLETS rips through the Romans, killing them all.

Expressionless, Brunner marches off.

INT. ROMAN GARRISON – DAY

German SOLDIERS laugh as they punch and kick a Roman soldier to death.

Brunner walks in. He ignores the vicious beating and turns his
attention to a rack filled with swords.

Hoessler steps inside. He waves away an odor from his face.

					HOESSLER
This is the glory of Rome? Foul stench.
      Filthy animals, all of them.

Brunner ignores the remark. He grabs a sword and holds it firmly. He
eyes the blade.

					BRUNNER
		Fine workmanship.

					HOESSLER (CONT'D)
And so it begins, Herr Brunner. You've
taken the first step at helping to give
birth to a new Reich. Let me be the
		first to congratulate you.

Brunner turns to Hoessler with a displeased glance. Suddenly, he flings
the sword in his direction.

Before Hoessler can react, the sword SLAMS and embeds itself into the
wall behind him –- inches from his neck.

Hoessler seethes with anger at Brunner's near-lethal response.

					BRUNNER
		As I said, fine workmanship.

EXT. DESERT ROAD – NIGHT

Burning embers reveal a campsite. John, Perry and Daniel sit among a
mass of refugees. They bask in the warmth of a campfire.

Yazid walks over and sits with them.

					PERRY
		Find out anything?

					YAZID
I talked to some of the Romans who got
out alive. They're telling me their
legion was either wiped out or they've
fled to the hills and in hiding.

Perry looks out at the multitudes of wounded. The faint CRIES of
children are HEARD in the distant night.

      				YAZID (CONT'D)
I don't get it. How could the Germans
		have traveled through time?

					JOHN
I'd say we just found out what happened
to the other half of your missing ship,
      Captain.

      			YAZID
      What do you mean, Doc?

      			JOHN
It must have crash-landed somewhere in
the early forties. It was intact enough
when the Germans found it and they were
able to reverse engineer the technology.

					PERRY
The question is why they're here.

      			DANIEL
It may have something to do with the
      crucifixion.

					JOHN
What are you talking about, Father?

					DANIEL
We're at a pivotal point in our history,
doctor. In a matter of days, Christ is to
		be crucified.

					JOHN
What would the Germans gain by preventing
		the crucifixion?

					DANIEL
Christianity as a religion has been
responsible for the rise and fall of
      empires, Doctor. Including Germany's.

      				JOHN
It explains that black hole we found in
      our time.

					DANIEL
		What do you mean?

					JOHN
General Nelson said the hole appeared as
if the universe was un-creating itself.
But I think he had it wrong. What we saw
      was our history being erased.

      			DANIEL
You believe the German's presence is
      destroying the future?

      			JOHN
No, not destroying it, but creating an
alternate timeline. A new history where
      we no longer exist.

      			PERRY
The flight data recorder is our only
chance at repairing the timeline. We've
got to get it back from the Germans.

      			YAZID
Captain, even if we could, how would
      that help?

      PERRY
		The expedition's flight recorder should
have the exact location of where the
Germans found the second half of the
		Wells One.

					DANIEL
You're suggesting we travel back to the
point in history just before they find
      it?

					PERRY
Precisely, Father. If we can get to
the wreckage before the Germans do and
destroy it, all the events up until now
      will never have happened.

      			JOHN
You really think it could work?

      			PERRY
      It's just a theory, Doctor. But it's
the only option open to us.

      			YAZID
I say we go for it.

      			PERRY
We'll need the Romans help if we're going
to get the flight recorder back.

      			YAZID
      But why them?

      			PERRY
Right now, they're the only military
      force in the region.

					YAZID
Excuse me, Captain but that "military
force" just got its ass kicked.

					PERRY
I'm aware of their tactical disadvantage,
Mister Yazid. We're going to change that.
In the meantime we better rest. We move
out with the refugees in the morning.

Reluctant, John, Yazid and Daniel lay down to rest. Perry looks out one
last time at the wounded men, women and children.

EXT. JERUSALEM – SUNSET

Night falls upon the city.

INT. ROMAN GARRISON – NIGHT

Nazi soldiers have "modernized" the garrison. Lights have been
installed.

Brunner sits in a makeshift office. Complete with desk, a nazi banner
and a large framed portrait of Adolph Hitler that hangs on the wall
behind him.

Hoessler steps inside.

					HOESSLER
You're victory is complete. The city is
		now ours.

Lt. Joss marches in. He carries Perry's bag.

					JOSS
Herr, Colonel, I think you should see
		this.

He reaches into the bag and pulls out a palm video recorder -– and a
flight recorder. Brunner grabs it with alarm.

					BRUNNER
		Where did you get this?

					JOSS
It came from a woman who was fleeing
with three others. Our men fired at
them but they managed to escape through
a river that runs beneath the city.

      			HOESSLER
      What is this device?

      			BRUNNER
It's called a video recorder. The time
ship that we captured from the Americans,
was filled with devices similar to this.

Brunner taps the "play" button on the video camera.

CLOSE-UP – LCD SCREEN

It shows Perry as she emerges from the wreckage of the Wells One.

					PERRY
				(on screen)
		Turn it off.

					YAZID'S VOICE
		Ma'am?

					PERRY
				(on screen)
		I said turn it off.

The video goes black.

BACK TO SCENE

      			HOESSLER
      What does it mean?

      			BRUNNER
It means we're not alone. We were warned
there might be others from our future,
      here.
      		(to Joss)
You say there were only four?

      			JOSS
      Yes, Sir.

      			HOESSLER
If they escaped, their ship can't be
      far away.

      			BRUNNER
In either case we may have to accelerate
      our plans.
      			HOESSLER
I don't see how four, unarmed individuals
on the run can be a threat.

      			BRUNNER
Only a fool underestimates his enemy. Lt.,
send out a reconnaissance party. I want
      their ship found.

      			JOSS
      		(salutes)
      Yes, Sir.

Hoessler cracks a devious smile at Brunner, then leaves.

EXT. ROAD TO GALILEE – DAY

Thousands of villagers walk along the trail. John, Perry, Daniel and
Yazid have hitched a ride on the back of an ox drawn cart.

Daniel awakens from his sleep. He sits up and looks ahead while the
others continue to rest.

DANIEL'S POV

A city comes to into view, its outline carved by an oncoming sunrise.

BACK TO SCENE

John, Perry and Yazid awaken as well.

					PERRY
		Where are we?

					DANIEL
		I don't know.

					PERRY
Yazid, find out where we are.

Yazid taps the Man driving the cart.

					YAZID
				(in Arabic)
Sir, that city we're heading toward,
		what's its name?

The Man responds. Yazid's eyes widen with genuine surprise.

					JOHN
		What did he say?

					YAZID
		He says it's… Galilee.

					JOHN
		If that's Galilee that means…

					DANIEL
Yes, Doctor. It means Christ is there.

Daniel hops off the cart. The others follow. They stand before the city
gates and look on in awe.

					DANIEL (CONT'D)
We stand at the foot of history.

They head inside.

EXT. PAST GATES OF GALILEE – DAY

Crowded with merchants.

					PERRY
We'll need to get some supplies.

Perry notices Daniel as he gazes with a hopeful glance at a temple
directly across from them.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
Father, I know it's tempting but we have
little time. We've got to find the Roman
		legion.

					DANIEL
You're right, of course. It's just I had
hoped I might catch a glimpse of him.

With a sympathetic smile she leads him away.
EXT. MARKETPLACE – DAY

Daniel immediately stops walking. He turns his eyes to the sky above.

					PERRY
		What's wrong, Father?

					DANIEL
		You hear that?

The crowds around them gaze at the sky above. The SOUND of a TURBINE
ENGINE GROWS. The crowds panic and run for cover.

An aircraft craft approaches. CLOSER, it is a jet helicopter -- with
German markings.

					DANIEL
		Dear God.

EXT. OUTSIDE GALILEE GATES – DAY

The turbine driven aircraft lands. German soldiers disembark and charge
into the city with Brunner.
Roman soldiers at the main gate are struck down with MACHINEGUN FIRE.

EXT. MARKETPLACE - DAY

The crowds are herded into groups as Brunner's men scour the city
streets.

      			BRUNNER
			(to Lt. Joss)
Find out where the main temple is.

					JOSS
		Yes, Sir.

Lt. Joss turns to an OLD MAN who cowers in fear. With a calm, pleasing
expression he steps over to him.

      				JOSS
Zaken', efo' bet hakne's set ba'ir'
      hazot'?

The Old Man's voice trembles as he speaks.
					OLD MAN
		Bihemshech' hasvhil', a'na al takeh'
      oti'.

					JOSS
		He says it's just ahead.

Expressionless, Brunner marches on.

EXT. HOLY TEMPLE – DAY

Brunner and his men surround the temple. Storm troopers shove the crowd
back.

Warning SHOTS are fired into the air. The mass of men, women and
children recoil in terror.

Brunner watches as the frightened mob don't even make eye contact at
him. Except for one woman -– Perry.

She glances at him defiantly.

					JOSS
Sir, we have the temple surrounded.

Distracted, Brunner turns to Joss, then just as quickly looks back to
find Perry, gone.

					BRUNNER
		They're here.

					JOSS
		Who, Sir?

					BRUNNER
		The Americans.

					JOSS
		How can you be sure?

					BRUNNER
		I trust my instincts.

He beams a lethal stare at the mass of men, women and children.

					JOSS
Sir, if they're hiding among the crowd,
      we'll never find them.

					BRUNNER
		You overestimate my handicap.

Brunner reaches into the crowd and grabs an ARAB WOMAN. She screams as
he holds her brutally by her hair.

					BRUNNER (CONT'D)
I speak to you who have traveled through
time as I have! I know you are here!
Unless you reveal yourselves to me
      this woman dies!

ANGLE ON THE WELLS CREW

They watch, silently.

					BRUNNER (CONT'D)
		Very well.

Brunner throws the woman to the ground and FIRES a single shot into
her, OFF CAMERA.

The crowd screams, horrified at the hand weapon and its destructive
power.

WIDER, we SEE the woman's dead body lying on the ground in a pool of
blood.

Brunner reaches into the crowd and grabs a little girl(6). She screams
as Brunner places the gun against her head.

CLOSE-UP – GUN'S TRIGGER

Brunner is just about to pull the trigger.

					DANIEL (V.O.)
		No!

BACK TO SCENE

Daniel emerges from the crowd. He stands before Brunner.

					BRUNNER
There are three others with you.

John, Perry and Yazid walk out from among the terrified crowd.

					DANIEL
There's no need for more violence.
      We'll come peacefully.

					BRUNNER
		I know you will.

					JOSS
				(points)
		Herr Colonel!

Brunner turns to the temple. A MAN (30) with long hair and a beard
descends the steps. It is CHRIST. He reaches the bottom and stands
before Brunner.

Both men face one another.

					BRUNNER
		Arrest him.

ANGLE ON BRUNNER'S MEN

They stand in awe –- and hesitate.

					BRUNNER (CONT'D)
		I said arrest him!!

Startled by Brunner's sudden demand the soldiers surround Christ.

ANGLE ON GERMAN SOLDIER

He pulls Christ's hands back and wraps handcuffs around his wrists. As
he does, he never makes eye contact and looks down in shame.

BACK TO SCENE

					DANIEL
What will you do with him!?
Brunner turns his attention back to the Wells team.

					BRUNNER
		Take them away.

					JOSS
		Yes, Sir.

Lt. Joss signals the troops. They grab John, Perry, Yazid and Daniel
and lead them out of the city.

EXT. GATES TO GALILEE – DAY

Christ is led aboard the awaiting helicopter along with the Wells Team.

INT. HELICOPTER – DAY

Brunner climbs aboard last.

EXT. GATES OF GALILEE - DAY

The helicopter rises from the sand. It ascends and heads back to its
base with its precious cargo -- Christ.

EXT. JERUSALEM – LANDING SITE – DAY

The helicopter lands. GERMAN SOLDIERS watch from a distance behind
gated fences that block the landing pad.

They watch with anticipation as the door to the aircraft is slid open.

From a distance WE SEE Christ emerge in chains. Armed Guards surround
him.

Christ is led onto a truck and driven away.

John, Perry, Yazid and Daniel are led to a separate truck. They climb
on board at gunpoint.

INT. TRUCK – MOVING – DAY

Yazid's eyes catch a glimpse of an object.

					YAZID
		Oh my God.
All eyes turn to the object.

THE WELLS TWO

Has been captured. Three helicopters carry the time craft inside a
steel net. Slowly, the ship is lowered onto an awaiting flatbed truck.

INT. LABORATORY – DAY

Three German SS DOCTORS within, watch with genuine interest as Christ
is led inside.

					DOCTOR#1
				(to guards)
		Remove his chains.

The guard obeys. He unshackles Christ.

					DOCTOR#1 (CONT'D)
Lay him down on the examination
		table.

Christ obediently lies down on the table. The Doctors look at one
another, perplexed at Christ's seeming ability to have just understood
what's been said.

					DOCTOR
				(to Guard)
		You, uh… may go.

ANGLE ON MEDICAL TRAY

It's wheeled toward Christ. On it are a myriad of medical instruments.

INT. JAIL CELL – DAY

The Wells team remains locked behind prison bars. Brunner arrives
outside the cell door.

					BRUNNER
Which among you is in command?

					PERRY
		I am.

Brunner raises a startled eyebrow. He eyes Perry up and down.

					BRUNNER
A woman? What is your name and rank?

					PERRY
		I'm Captain Elizabeth Perry. United
		States Air Force.

      BRUNNER
Very well, Captain. I am Colonel Alois
Brunner. I hereby inform you that you
are now prisoners of the Third Reich.

      			YAZID
      		(dry)
      Terrific. What do we win?

					PERRY
		Alois Brunner? It can't be.

					BRUNNER
		You know of me?

					PERRY
I read about you when I studied military
history at West Point. You disappeared
one month before the liberation of Paris.
But not before giving the order that
sent three hundred children to the gas
      chambers.

					BRUNNER
As a soldier it was my duty to eliminate
      all enemies of the Reich.

					PERRY
		They were children.

					BRUNNER
		No, they were Jews.

Stunned expressions from all at Brunner's last words.

      DANIEL
		Colonel, Nazi Germany was defeated
because it did not respect human life.
      		(beat)
Your end will come soon enough.

					BRUNNER
I think not. We have taken the city of
Jerusalem. We have even captured this
man who calls himself, Christ. Our
      victory is complete.

			DANIEL
And what is to become of Christ?

					BRUNNER
He is being examined by our S-S
physicians. If he does carry within
him an unknown source of power, it
      must be found.
				(beat)
		We must have it.

					DANIEL
You won't find that power by looking
		under a microscope, Colonel.

					BRUNNER
		We shall see.

					PERRY
And what do you intend to do with us?

					BRUNNER
That depends upon you. Your ship has
      been captured. I require information
      regarding its advanced technology so
we may improve our own time ship's
      design. You will assist us.

      			PERRY
      Not likely.

      			BRUNNER
Then I shall turn you over to our
      Gestapo, for further interrogation.
As a military historian, I'm sure
you're aware of their well earned
      reputation.

He turns and walks away.

INT. LABORATORY – NIGHT

Hoessler enters and walks over to the Doctor who continues to look
through a microscope.

	HOESSLER
		Anything?

					DOCTOR#1
		So far nothing.

					HOESSLER
Nothing? What about the blood of
this Christ? It's said to have
      miraculous healing properties.

					DOCTOR#1
		I've already examined the blood.

					HOESSLER
		And?

					DOCTOR#1
It's ordinary blood. In fact I have
examined this man in every conceivable,
medical way that I know and I've come
		to one conclusion.
				(beat)
		He's just a man.

					HOESSLER
Unacceptable. I want you to run more
		tests.

					DOCTOR#1
There are no more tests to run.

					HOESSLER
Then you will run your tests again.
I want to know the source of his
power. Even if it means dissecting
      him.

      			DOCTOR#1
      Yes, Sir.

Hoessler lights up a cigarette, takes a puff then marches out of the
lab.

INT. JAIL CELL – NIGHT

The Wells team remains locked up. Hoessler arrives outside the cell
door with a guard.

					HOESSLER
		Open the door.

The guard inserts the key, turns the lock and swings the cell door
open. Hoessler steps inside.

					HOESSLER (CONT'D)
I am Colonel Hans Hoessler of the
      Gestapo. I've been assigned to
      interrogate you.

No response from the team.

					HOESSLER
So, you are the Americans? Tell me,
      what is the future like?

      				YAZID
It still has arrogant assholes like
you.	Now we just call them lawyers.

Hoessler doesn't smile. Instead he pulls up a chair and sits down.

					HOESSLER
		Our scientists are currently trying
		to examine your ship. Unfortunately
		we cannot gain entry.

					PERRY
		You're an adult. You'll cope.

Hoessler rises from his chair and sighs, frustrated. He steps over to
Perry and strikes her across her jaw, knocking her to the floor.

John, Yazid try to lunge at Hoessler. The Guard aims his machinegun at
the men. They back off.

As Perry gets to her feet she wipes blood from across her mouth.

					HOESSLER (CONT'D)
Let us try that again, shall we?
How do I gain entry into your ship?

					PERRY
		Find a locksmith.

Hoessler raises his hand to strike her again –

					DANIEL
		No!
				(beat)
There's no need for any further
		violence, Colonel. We'll cooperate.

					HOESSLER
There, you see, Captain? Your	comrade
 		has just saved your life.
				(to Daniel)
      You will come with me.

					PERRY
He can't help you get on board our
ship. The combination to the hatch
      is coded to my D-N-A.

					HOESSLER
		And what is this, D-N-A?

					PERRY
It means the lock is programmed to
      open using my genetic code.

Hoessler eyes Perry up and down, clearly suspicious at the claim.

					HOESSLER
Very Well. I shall return in the
      morning with our scientists.
      		(beat)
If I discover you're lying to me,
you will watch as your comrades are
      tortured and then executed.

He marches off. John examines Perry's bruise.

					JOHN
Captain, You can't allow the Germans
		access to the Wells Two.

					PERRY
I'm aware of that, Doctor. But it might
be our only chance to stop them.

					JOHN
		I don't understand.

					PERRY
If I can get to the ship's main reactor
core, I'll be able to set it for
      self-destruct.

					YAZID
Whoa, just a second. You're talking
about destroying our only way of
		getting back home.

					PERRY
It won't make much of a difference,
      Mister Yazid.

      			YAZID
      Why not?

      			PERRY
Because the blast won't just destroy
the ship… it'll wipe out everything
in a five mile	radius. Including us.

      			DANIEL
      Captain, you're talking about killing
thousands of innocent people in the
      process.

Perry steps over to Daniel.

      			PERRY
If that's the price for preventing the
Germans from filling the gas chambers
and death camps with millions more,
      then so be it.
      		(beat)
They've left us with no choice.

INT. LABORATORY – NIGHT

Christ continues to lay strapped on the examination table. Standing
over him is an S-S DOCTOR (60), with a receding hairline and weathered
features. Brunner enters.

					BRUNNER
		Has he spoken?

					DOCTOR#1
		Not one word.

Brunner looks down at Christ.

					DOCTOR#1 (CONT'D)
I swear to you, I feel as though he
      understands every word we're saying.
      Even thinking.

					BRUNNER
		He's only a man.

					DOCTOR#1
		I know that. It's just there's
		something about him –

					BRUNNER
		He's only a man!!

The Doctor recoils from Brunner's sudden outburst.

					DOCTOR#1
		Yes, Herr Colonel.

					BRUNNER
I want a full report within the hour.
		Is that understood?

					DOCTOR#1
		Yes, Colonel.

As Brunner turns to leave, Christ unexpectedly grabs him by the wrist.

CLOSE-UP – CHRIST'S HAND

He holds onto Brunner's wrist.

					BRUNNER
		Let go of me!

Brunner grabs Christ's hand and tries to pry himself free.

					BRUNNER (CONT'D)
		Guards!

As the two Guards race toward Brunner to help, Christ lets go of
Brunner's hand. Dazed from the encounter, Brunner races out of the lab.

INT. CORRIDOR – NIGHT

Brunner closes the door behind him. He holds his hand that Christ
grabbed up to his face.

It's stained with Christ's blood. He quickly reaches into his pocket
and pulls out his handkerchief.

He wipes the blood. Even still, the bloodstain remains.

The distant SOUND of THUNDER crackles overhead.

EXT. ROMAN GARRISON – NIGHT

RAIN pounds against the ground. Brunner walks out into the open and
lets the rain pour on him.

He holds out his hand and lets the shower flow from his palm onto the
dirt beneath his feet.

He stares at his palm. The rainfall cleanses the bloody stain. Lt. Joss
wanders over to him.

					JOSS
		Colonel? Are you all right?

Brunner doesn't answer.

					JOSS
Sir, it's not healthy for you to
stand out in the rain like this.

					BRUNNER
		Isn't it?

					JOSS
		Sir, come back inside? Please?

Brunner slowly makes his way back into the garrison.

INT. BRUNNER'S QUARTERS – HOURS LATER - NIGHT

Brunner lies in his bed asleep, tossing and turning. Beads of sweat
cover his face.

WE HEAR the ghastly SCREAMS of men, women and children as they're shot
and tortured.

					BRUNNER
		Stop it… Stop it!!

The SCREAMS reach a deafening crescendo until finally he awakens. He
quickly sits up in his bed covering his ears.

					BRUNNER (CONT'D)
		Stop it!!

Lt. Joss charges in.

					JOSS
Colonel! Are you all right, Sir?

Brunner breathes a sigh or relief.

					BRUNNER
		Yes… I'm fine.

					JOSS
Is there anything I can get you?

					BRUNNER
				(weakly)
		No, just leave.

					JOSS
		Are you sure –-

					BRUNNER
		I said get out!!

					JOSS
		Yes, Sir.

Lt. Joss closes the door behind him. Brunner rises from his bed. He
stares at himself in a mirror.

EXT. JERUSALEM – DAWN

An orange sunrise caresses the city.

INT. JAIL CELL – MOMENTS LATER

John awakens from his sleep. He nudges the others to wake up. They look
and see Brunner who stands outside their cell door.

					BRUNNER
The Jew cast a spell upon me.

					DANIEL
		What are you talking about?

					BRUNNER
He grabbed my hand and cast a spell
		upon me.
				(beat)
Last night, I dreamt of all the people
whose lives I've taken. I heard their
      screams… saw their faces.

					DANIEL
Are you saying Christ actually touched
      you?

					BRUNNER
		Yes.

					DANIEL
Then don't you see, Colonel? You've
      been given a gift.

      			BRUNNER
      A gift?

      			DANIEL
That sensation you're feeling is remorse.
It's guilt for all the pain and suffering
      you've inflicted upon the innocent.
      		(beat)
      You've been given a conscience.

Distraught, Brunner turns his back to Daniel and leans against the
wall.

					BRUNNER
I… swore an allegiance to the Reich
      and my Fuhrer.

      			DANIEL
And you're no longer bound by that
allegiance. You can now choose to
      do what's right and just.
      		(beat)
For the first time in your life,
      you're free.

Brunner ponders the moment. He turns to Daniel. He reaches into his
pocket and pulls out the key to the cell.

He inserts it into the lock and opens the door.

					BRUNNER
Who among you is the pilot?

					PERRY
		I am.
					BRUNNER
There's a helicopter, fully fueled. Do
you think you can fly it?

					PERRY
		Watch me.

					BRUNNER
		It's this way.

					PERRY
Colonel, wait. We can't leave	without
the flight data recorder. It's a small
metal case with white markings on the
      side. Have you seen it?

      			BRUNNER
Yes, I have the device. It's in my
quarters. But of what use could it be
      to you?

      			PERRY
There's no time explain. Please, just
      take us there.

					BRUNNER
Captain, Major Hoessler will be arriving
soon. The moment he finds you all missing
      he'll set off the alarms.

					PERRY
		We'll have to risk it.

INT. BRUNNER'S QUARTERS – DAY

The door slowly opens. Brunner enters. The Wells Team are right behind
him.

Brunner quickly unlocks a cabinet. He reaches inside and pulls out the
bag with Perry's video camera and flight recorder.

Perry inspects the recorder's condition.

					JOHN
		Well?

					PERRY
		It's still in one piece.

					BRUNNER
		We must hurry.

EXT. HANGAR – DAY

Still under construction. Three planes are parked alongside an
uncompleted runway. A jeep drives and parks a few yards from a
helicopter.

Brunner is behind the wheel. John, Perry, Daniel and Yazid climb from
the jeep.

The group walks cautiously past the ground crew who cast puzzled looks
at them.

      			BRUNNER
      Keep walking.

ANGLE ON CREWMAN

He stares at Brunner with a curious glance.

BACK TO BRUNNER

He opens the hatch to the helicopter. The Wells team turns to Brunner.

					BRUNNER
				(to Perry)
I only hope air crafts in your time do
not deviate too much in design from
      this one.

					PERRY
		You're not coming with us?

					BRUNNER
		No.

					DANIEL
If you come with us you could be free.

Brunner snaps an uncharacteristic smile.

					BRUNNER
		I already am. Go now.

The team climb aboard.

As Daniel climbs inside the helicopter he looks back one last time at
Brunner.

Both men exchange hopeful glances.

Brunner turns his attention to a ground CREWMAN who makes his way over
to him.

INT. HELICOPTER COCKPIT – DAY

Perry sits in the pilot's seat. John sits in the seat next to her.

					JOHN
		Can you fly this thing?

					PERRY
Controls are pretty close to an old
trainer I used to fly in school.

She eyes the control panels.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
		Here's the engine ignition.

She throws the switch. The windshield wipers go on.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
		Wrong switch. Here we go.

She turns another switch. The ENGINES VIBRATE to life. The blades
slowly begin to rotate.

ANGLE ON GROUND CREWMAN

He arrives as the helicopter's engine rev near full power.

					CREWMAN
		Colonel?

					BRUNNER
		Yes, crewman?
					CREWMAN

Perry struggles to get used to the aircraft's controls. It wobbles then
stabilizes.

ANGLE ON BRUNNER

He turns to find armed soldiers racing to stop the helicopter.

He walks toward them and opens fire.

The spinning blades BLOW SAND into a group of soldiers who arrive at
the landing pad.

Blinded, they fire randomly into the air hoping to hit their mark.

Brunner continues to shoot at his men. He pulls the trigger but runs
out of ammo.

As he attempts to reload, a gun is pressed against the back of his
head.

WIDER ANGLE

Brunner turns and faces a stunned, Lt. Joss.

					JOSS
		You-You helped them escape! Why??

Hoessler arrives with his men.

					 HOESSLER
				(to Joss)
		Shoot him!

Brunner locks glances with Hoessler.

					BRUNNER
		I'm free.

Lt. Joss shoots Brunner in the chest. Brunner's body tumbles onto the
ground.

BRUNNER'S POV

The helicopter ascends into the sky. It slowly becomes enveloped within
the clouds.

BACK TO SCENE

					BRUNNER
		Free…

He dies.

EXT. OVER THE CLOUDS – DAY

The helicopter streaks over Judea.

EXT. AIRFIELD – DAY

German soldiers scatter as they surround the airfield. Hoessler waves
to a burly SARGEANT who hurries over to him.

					 HOESSLER
Sergeant! I want that aircraft pursued
and shot out of the sky!

      			SARGEANT
Herr, Colonel, we can't! Our runway
      hasn't been completed yet!

Hoessler steps nose to nose with the Sergeant.

					HOESSLER
You will have those planes in the air
in the next five minutes or you will
stand before a firing squad. You decide.

The Sergeant turns to his ground crew.

					SARGEANT
I want those planes in the air in the
      next five minutes!

EXT. RUNWAY – DAY

Three German Messerschmitt fighters line the uncompleted runway. Their
engines are at FULL POWER.
One of the youthful PILOTS looks down the short stretch of runway.

The Sergeant races over to him.

					PILOT
		We can't make this runway!

					SERGEANT
You get your planes in the air in
the next five minutes or you will
stand before a firing squad! You
      decide.

Frustrated, the Pilot shoves the Sergeant off the side of his wing and
closes his canopy.

He taxis his fighter onto the tarmac. Two more fighter craft line up
behind him.

The pilot releases the breaks to his fighter. He accelerates across the
runway.

PILOTS POV

The ground beneath streaks at a blinding speed. He quickly approaches
the end of the uncompleted runway.

ON PILOT

He pulls up hard on his fighter's controls.

ANGLE ON GERMAN FIGHTER#1

As the plane lifts off the ground its landing gear plows into a sand
dune. With massive force the Messerschmitt flips over, tumbles
violently and COLLIDES into a parked fuel truck.

is torn off -– having collided with a section
of the burning tanker truck.

Damaged, Fighter#2 still manages to lift into the air in pursuit of the

unexpectedly dives into the mouth of the canyon.

EXT. CANYON – ON HELICOPTER - DAY

Perry flies through the dizzying maze of canyon walls.

INT. HELICOPTER – FLYING

Perry looks at the aerial landscape around her. It's quiet and serene.
					YAZID
				(smiles)
I think we lost them! Great flying,
      Captain!

HELICOPTER'S POV

The valley passage becomes dangerously narrow.

As the helicopter turns the corner of a massive canyon wall the two
German fighters appear –- heading straight at them!

BACK TO SCENE

All three aircrafts simultaneously open fire at one another!

ANGLE ON GERMAN FIGHTERS

They ROAR past Perry from each side –- missing her by mere inches.

Both German fighters make a sharp turn to avoid colliding with each
other.

German fighter#1's left wing clips the side of the canyon wall and is
TORN OFF.

He plunges into a spiraling ball of FIRE. The twisted wreckage bounces
off cliff after cliff until it EXPLODES.

GERMAN FIGHTER#2

Pulls up from the canyon and heads back after Perry.

ANGLE ON HELICOPTER

Perry reaches a narrow bend of the canyon. She slows down,
turns around, and hovers in mid-air facing the oncoming fighter plane.

INT. HELICOPTER – HOVERING

Are you nuts?! He's coming right
		at us!

					PERRY
		That's the idea!

chest, killing him.

The German fighter spirals out of control and SLAMS into the canyon's
face EXPLODING on impact.

uncontrollably as Perry fights to keep it in the air.

BLACK SMOKE spews from its engine.

INT. HELICOPTER – FLYING

Perry steers the wounded aircraft toward a bleak and desolate region.

					PERRY
		Hold on!

Dust and debris fill the cockpit.

					PERRY
		Everyone all right?

					JOHN
		I'm okay.

					DANIEL
		Still in one piece.

					PERRY
		Mister Yazid?

					YAZID
		Still in one piece.

EXT. HELICOPTER – DAY

They climb out. Yazid staggers away and falls to his knees, out of
breath.

A SHADOW looms over him. It blots the sunlight from his face. He looks
up to find a ROMAN SOLDIER on horseback standing over him.

					YAZID (CONT'D)
		Guys?

ANGLE ON GROUP

They rise to their feet.

WIDER ANGLE

Dozens of Roman soldiers on horseback surround them.

EXT. ROMAN ENCAMPMENT – NIGHT

Campfires by the hundreds are strewn across the base of a small
mountain.

INT. ROMAN TENT – NIGHT

The Wells team is led inside. Waiting for them is the Roman Commander
MARCUS MARIUS (40). He has dark, striking features and a piercing gaze.

His men remove his armor and with visible loyalty, stand at his side.
He speaks.

					YAZID
He wants to know who we are.

					PERRY
He'd never understand the concept of
time travel. Yazid, tell him we're
      friends.

Yazid quickly translates. With an unimpressed glance, Marius raises his
hand to one of his soldiers.

The Soldier carries a large piece of metal fuselage and tosses it onto
the floor before the Wells Team. It's a piece from the helicopter -–
with the German swastika printed on it.

					PERRY
It's a piece of wreckage from the
      helicopter we crashed in.
				(beat)
		They think we're Germans.

Marius speaks to the group. Yazid raises a surprised eyebrow.

					YAZID
		Captain, he wants a truce.

					PERRY
If he thinks we're responsible for the
attack on Jerusalem, I can see why.
Yazid, tell him we're not with the
enemy. Tell him we mean no harm to him
      or his people.

Yazid translates her words. Marius snaps a suspicious gaze at Perry.

					YAZID
		I don't think he understands.

Perry stares at Marius with an eager glance.

					PERRY
He understands. He's just trying to decide
whether he believes us or not.

Marius rises to his feet. He speaks to Perry.

      YAZID
He wants us to follow him.

Marius marches out of the tent. The Wells Team follows escorted by his
men.

EXT. WOODED AREA – NIGHT

Marius leads the group past ripped tree stumps and intertwined
branches.

They stand in the center of a battlefield. A damaged German time ship
is at its center. Its fuselage is torn wide open.

Cast out among the debris are the rotting corpses of German soldiers –-
as well as Romans.

ANGLE ON GERMAN TRUCKS

They sit frozen, their dead drivers still behind their wheels.

					JOHN
		My God.

Marius turns to the Wells team. Yazid translates as Marius speaks.

					MARIUS
It took more than half of my entire
legion before we could stop them. I
      lost good men.

Daniel stands before the German time ship.

      			DANIEL
      What do you suppose happened?

      			JOHN
This ship must have landed off course.
When the Germans tried to find their
way back to their convoy, they ran
      into Marius and his men.
      		(beat)
      Then all hell broke loose.

Perry looks at Marius. His face is worn with fatigue.

					PERRY
His whole world's been turned inside
		out and we're to blame.

INT. TRUCK - NIGHT

John climbs inside. The truck is filled with crates marked "EXPLOSIVES"
and "AMMUNITION."

EXT. TRUCK - NIGHT

John climbs out.

					JOHN
There's a whole arsenal inside these
		trucks.

					PERRY
Enough to arm an attack force?

					JOHN
			(a concerned look)
		I suppose.

Perry steps over to Yazid.

					PERRY
Yazid, tell Marius that we can help
      him defeat his enemy.

Yazid translates. Marius looks upon Perry with a disapproving glance.

					PERRY
		Well?

					YAZID
If I remember my history, Roman
      society considered women as second
      class citizens. I don't think he's
the type to take orders from someone
      so…
(uncomfortable)
      Feminine.

      			PERRY
      Maybe he'll understand this.

Perry reaches for a discarded heavy machinegun beside a dead Nazi
soldier. Marius and his men remove their swords from their scabbards
and take a defensive posture against her.

Perry aims the machine gun and FIRES at a jeep. Bullets rip through the
vehicle's tires and thin armour plating.

The gas tank is HIT. It EXPLODES. She tosses the machine gun to Marius
who's clearly impressed.

					PERRY
Tell him if we were his enemy, he'd
      be dead right now.

As Yazid translates, Perry steps over to Marius and faces him.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
And tell him that we'll show him how
to use these weapons, so that when he
confronts his enemy again… the odds
      will be even.

Marius looks at Perry with a hopeful glance as Yazid translates her
words.

Marius responds to the offer.

					YAZID
You got yourself a deal, Captain.

Marius signals his men. They escort the Wells Team back to their tent.

Marius stays behind. He looks out at the battlefield with a despondent
glance. He then turns his attention to the thousands of campfires that
light up the base of the hill.

He reaches into his chest plate and removes a small ivory carving.

CLOSE-UP – IVORY CARVING

It's of a woman and child. He runs his fingers across their faces.

BACK TO SCENE

Tears swell in Marius' eyes. He puts away the carving and makes his way
back to his command tent.

EXT. TRAINING GROUND – WOODEN BOARD – DAY

BULLETS strike and tear the wooden target to pieces.
ANGLE ON MARIUS

He's the one who fired. WIDER, his troops crowd around him, fascinated
by the destructive power of the machine gun.

Daniel and John look on as Perry, with Yazid's translation, explains to
eager Roman troops how to load the weapon.

      				DANIEL
Do you suppose Marius and his men can
      actually defeat the Germans?

      			JOHN
They managed to take on a company of
heavily armed German troops and win.

      			DANIEL
And if they win this battle, we'll
have made them as efficient at killing
      as the Germans.

ANGLE ON MARIUS

He OPENS FIRE on a German dummy filled with straw. It's obliterated.

Marius' men cheer as they watch the pieces drop to the ground.

					JOHN
		They learn fast.

					DANIEL
		Indeed they do.

He turns and walks away. The Romans continue with their target
practice.

INT. HOESSLER'S QUARTERS – NIGHT

Hoessler sits at his desk. Lt. Joss steps inside and salutes.

					JOSS
You wanted to see me, Sir?

				 	HOESSLER
I wanted to commend you on performing
your duty today. I know how difficult
it must have been in light of your…
		friendship with the Colonel.

					JOSS
We were not friends, Sir. I was
		merely his aid.

					HOESSLER
Yet, when I gave you a direct order
      to shoot him, you hesitated.

					JOSS
I've never had to shoot my superior
      officer before, Sir.

Hoessler eyes Joss up and down with suspicion.

					HOESSLER
I see. That'll be all, Lt.

					JOSS
				(salutes)
		Yes, Sir.

Joss opens the door to leave.

					HOESSLER
Lt., you have a bright future in
our new empire. Do not allow
      sentiment to cloud your ambition.

He turns and faces Hoessler.

					JOSS
		I won't, Sir.

He walks out the door.

INT. ROMAN TENT – NIGHT

Marius and his Commanders look on as Yazid lays down and unrolls a hand
drawn map on a table. John, Perry and Daniel stand at his side.

					JOHN
This is a pretty detailed map of
the German base. How'd you do it?

					YAZID
				(smiles)
		You forgot I've got photographic
memory, Doc. I saw the base from the
air when we escaped in the helicopter.

					PERRY
		Nice job, Mister Yazid.

She looks down at the map.

					PERRY (CONT'D)
For Marius to have any chance
against the Germans, we'll have to
      get past those Panzer tanks

      			JOHN
      Those aren't just ordinary Panzer
      tanks. They're Tiger Tanks. During
the war even the allies had a hard
      time stopping them.

      			PERRY
Then we'll have to take them out
      when they're most vulnerable.

      			JOHN
      And when is that?

      			PERRY
      When they're not moving.

EXT. ROMAN CAMP – DAY

Romans march in formation as they prepare for battle. Along with swords
they have machineguns strapped to their sides.

ANGLE ON TRUCK

Perry and Yazid finish loading their gear onto the vehicle.

INT. TENT – DAY

John steps inside. He finds Daniel on his knees praying.

					JOHN
Father, we're ready to move out.

Daniel rises to his feet. He faces John.

					DANIEL
I was asking God to forgive me if
		I failed.

					JOHN
		Failed at what?

					DANIEL
I took a vow to respect human life.
				(beat)
And now, I may not be able to
      keep it.

He walks out of the tent.

      here my panzers firing!

					PRIVATE (V.O.)
				(on radio)
		Sir, one's been destroyed! I can't
see the other one! There's too much

      			HOESSLER

John manages to unclip the belt and leaps back over to Perry.

					JOHN

The Wells team storms over to Marius.

					PERRY
		He lives for now.
      			(to Joss)
I want to know where Colonel Hoessler
is. Unless you want this gentleman to
interrogate you.

Joss looks at Marius who beams a menacing stare at him.

EXT. GERMAN TIME SHIP LANDING SITE – DAY

A jeep, driven by John, arrives. The Wells Team jumps out and race
toward the German time ships.

Perry cocks the hammer to her gun as she leads the way in.
					PERRY
Shoot at anything that moves. That
      includes you, Father. Understood?

Daniel nods. They make their way inside.

EXT. GERMAN TIME SHIP – DAY

John and Yazid walk cautiously beside one of the metallic crafts.

PERRY & DANIEL

Stumble upon the Wells Two as they walk deep within the maze-like
facility.

YAZID

Cautiously enters a German time ship.

INT. GERMAN TIME SHIP – THE COCKPIT

Yazid briefly looks inside to find it empty. He hears the CLICK from a
gun's hammer directly behind him.

He turns to find Hoessler, exhausted and still bleeding from his arm
pointing a gun at him. Yazid drops his gun. It falls to the deck.

Hoessler pulls the trigger. CLICK, the gun's empty.

Both Yazid and Hoessler leap onto the deck and try for the gun. Both
men tumble along the flight deck and struggle for control of the
weapon.

Yazid punches Hoessler's bloodied and open wound. Hoessler screams out
in agony.

THE GUN

Is accidentally flung back onto the deck. It falls out of the ship.

BACK TO SCENE

As they wrestle on the deck, Hoessler manages to reach for his empty
pistol still on the deck. He strikes Yazid across the head knocking him
out.

Hoessler staggers over to cockpit. He turns on the ship's main engines.

ANGLE ON YAZID

He gains consciousness. He starts crawling toward the exit.

ANGLE ON PERRY

She HEARS the sound of an engine POWERING UP. She races toward the
source.

EXT. HOESSLER'S TIME SHIP

Perry arrives. She sees Yazid tumble out of the craft. The hatch behind
him closes.

Perry runs over to Yazid. She pulls him away as the ship's engines
approach full power.

John and Daniel arrive at the scene. They watch with Perry and Yazid as
the engines from Hoessler's ship reach a deafening CRESCENDO.

John looks over at a crane directly above Hoessler's ship. He makes a
run toward it. He climbs into the operator's chair and starts the
engine.

The VORTEX OPENS. As Hoessler's ship begins to enter the time stream.
John swings the crane at the escaping craft.

The crane's massive steel arm slams against the side of Hoessler's
ship.

The powerful impact knocks the vessel out of alignment with the VORTEX.

The ship is sliced down the middle producing a BLINDING ARC of LIGHT.

One half of the ship is sucked into the TIME STREAM the other half
remains behind.

The vortex closes.

The remaining half of Hoessler's ship tumbles onto its side and SLAMS
onto the ground. It becomes engulfed in FLAMES.

Through the burning FIRE, WE SEE Hoessler's body sliced clean down the
middle.

EXT. GATES TO JERUSALEM – DAY

Roman troops line the road as they march the defeated German soldiers
out of Jerusalem.

Daniel and John drive past the sight and into the Holy City.

EXT. JERUSALEM MAIN SQUARE – DAY

John pulls over. He watches with Perry, Daniel and Yazid as German
troops are led away in chains.

A figure walks out into open view. It is Christ. Perry sees him.

					PERRY
		Father, look.

Daniel watches as Christ walks over to a wounded German soldier who
lies on the ground bleeding to death.

The SOLDIER reaches out to Christ.

Christ walks over to a bucket of water being used by a group of Roman
soldiers who laugh among the littered bodies of dead Germans.

The Romans watch with utter astonishment as Christ carries the bucket
away and over to the wounded German.

Christ kneels down in front of the Soldier and gives him water to sip.

ANGLE ON MARIUS

He sees this. Angry, he shouts at Christ to get away from the dying
German. Christ briefly looks at Marius then ignores him.

Marius storms over to Christ and knocks the cup of water away from the
German soldier's lips.

ANGLE ON WELLS TEAM

They watch the violent event unfold.

BACK TO MARIUS

Christ lifts the cup from the ground, dips it into the bucket and
continues to give water and comfort to the German soldier.

Outraged, Marius knocks the cup away again. He shouts to his men who
march over to Christ.
Marius' troops grab a hold of Christ and drag him away.

					DANIEL
		No!

Perry steps in Daniel's way.

					PERRY
		Don't interfere.

					DANIEL
		They'll kill him!

					PERRY
I think he knows that. I think that's
what he intended all along, Father.

With tearful eyes, Daniel looks back at Christ one last time.

The Wells team looks on as a Roman soldier shoves Christ, who trips
then falls to the ground. Angry, the Roman screams at Christ. He
strikes him repeatedly with his whip.

Daniel turns away. He cringes with the SOUND of each strike of the
whip.

EXT. HILLTOP – DAY

Crucified German soldiers by the hundreds line the hilltop. Their
SCREAMS and MOANS continue until:
THE CROSS

That holds Christ is raised. The Wells Team watch with reverence. Men
and women reach out with their arms toward Christ. Roman soldiers push
the crowds back.

Above, black clouds have formed. THUNDER and LIGHTING flicker in the
distance. The sounds GROW in force.

RAIN and now WIND blow across the darkened hilltop. Crowds flee as
THUNDER and LIGHTING pound the earth.

The BLOOD of Christ flows down the length of the cross and into the
puddles of water below.

INT. WELLS TWO - DAY

The hatch opens. Perry enters, followed by John, Daniel and Yazid.

She holds up the data flight recorder and inserts it into an electronic
reader. It scans the recorder's data.

CLOSE-UP – COMPUTER SCREEN

Data scroll across the monitor.

BACK TO SCENE

					JOHN
		Well?

					PERRY
We've got the exact time and place
the Germans found the other half
of the expedition's ship.

					YAZID
Then what are we waiting for? Let's
		go.

					PERRY
It won't be easy. The Wells' reactor
core is drained each time it opens
the time stream. If we go back to the
point before the Germans find the
expedition's ship, we may not have
      enough power for another flight.
				(beat)
We might not make it home.

					DANIEL
As long as the remaining half of
		the expedition's ship is intact,
		history will always be threatened.
If not by the Germans then by some
		other force.
				(beat)
		It has to be destroyed.

A moment of silence. Perry turns to the flight controls and switches on
the ship's power.

      		PERRY
		Prepare to launch.

EXT. WELLS TWO – DAY

The Wells team stands in their full astronaut gear. Marius stands
before them with his men.

					PERRY
Yazid, did you tell Marius what he
		has to do?

					YAZID
Just like you said. Have every piece
of German equipment buried so deep
nobody could ever find it in two
      thousand years.

Marius mounts onto his horse. He salutes the team and rides away.

					DANIEL
I wonder, whatever happened to Marcus
      Marius?

					PERRY
		He was assassinated. About three
      years from now.
      		(beat)
      Let's move out.

INT. WELLS TWO

Perry sits in the pilot's seat. John, Daniel and Yazid
strap themselves in.

					PERRY
		Reactor's on line.

EXT. WELLS TWO

A bright light appears in front of the ship. It GROWS until the time
stream opens.

The Wells Two slides inside. The hole closes instantly.

EXT. CAVE ENTRANCE – EL ALAMEIN (1942)– DAY

A pin-sized dot of LIGHT appears. It expands. The Wells Two emerges
from the TIME STREAM.

The ship grinds to a halt, landing a short distance from the cave. The
TIME STREAM CLOSES. The hatch to the Wells Two opens. The Wells Team
climbs out from the ship.

They look up at the sky and listen to ARTILLERY EXPLODE in the
distance.

					PERRY
We better hurry. Allied planes might
spot us from the air. I'll get the
      explosives. Doctor, you and Mister
Yazid guard the entrance. Father, I'll
		need your help.

They walk toward the cave entrance.

INT. CAVE - DAY

Perry leads the way inside.

INT. CAVE – DEEPER

Perry and Daniel enter the cavernous opening.

REVERSE ANGLE

The expedition's SHIP lies embedded within the rock wall.

					DANIEL
		Dear God.

					PERRY
We've got to move fast. There's no
telling how soon the Germans will
      show up and find it.

Perry crawls half way under the wreckage to plant the explosive
charge.

The sound of PEBBLES FALLING grabs Daniel's attention.
He turns, only to be struck violently across the face with the front
end of a German handgun.
Standing over Perry and Daniel is the German PILOT who discovered the
wreckage.

					PILOT
				(in German)
		Get up!

CLOSE-UP – EXPLOSIVE

With her hand obscured by the fuselage, the German Pilot is unable to
see as Perry arms the device.

BACK TO SCENE

Perry slowly rises to her feet, her arms in the air.

					PILOT
				(in German; shouts)
Who are you! What are you doing
		here?!

					PERRY
		Father, you all right?

As Daniel begins to stand he spots the explosive.
DANIEL'S POV – THE BOMB

Is counting down at 25…24…23…

BACK TO SCENE

					PILOT
				(in German)
I want to know who you --

Daniel unexpectedly tackles the German Pilot to the ground! The pistol
GOES OFF. The bullet STRIKES Perry in the leg.

She screams out in pain and falls to the ground. In agony, Perry
quickly pulls out her pistol.

					DANIEL (CONT'D)
		Run!! Now!!

The Pilot FIRES A BULLET into Daniel's stomach.

					PERRY
		No!

The Pilot pushes a bleeding Daniel off to the side and aims his gun at
Perry –- who manages to FIRE BACK first.

The Pilot is struck in the face and chest. He's killed instantly.

Perry quickly staggers over to Daniel.

					PERRY
		No! Father!

					DANIEL
		Go… now… you don't have much time…

					PERRY
		I can't leave you here!

Perry watches helplessly as the life from Daniel's eyes fade. She looks
back at the explosive.

PERRY'S POV – THE BOMB

Twelve seconds and counting.
EXT. CAVE ENTRANCE – DAY

John and Yazid watch as Perry comes running out with her leg trailing
blood.

					PERRY
		Run!

					YAZID
		Where's Father Daniel?!

					PERRY
		I said run!

John and Yazid grab her. They race past the entrance and behind a large
boulder.

The charge EXPLODES. A titanic blast of ROCK and FIRE shoots out from
the within the mouth of the cave followed by the DEAFENING ROAR of
crashing earth.
Tons of rubble now blocks the cave entrance.

EXT. WELLS TWO – DUSK

John finishes dressing Perry's wound as she continues to gaze at the
collapsed opening.

Yazid looks on as well.

					JOHN
		We have to leave.

					PERRY
		I know.

She stands.

INT. WELLS TWO

Perry is at the controls.

					PERRY
		Reactor's down to twelve percent.
				(beat)
In case I don't get the opportunity
gentlemen, I just want to say…
It was pleasure serving with you.
John snaps a hopeful glance at Perry. She returns the gesture.

					PERRY
		Here we go.

EXT. WELLS – NIGHT

The vortex opens –- barely. It's outer rim wobbles as the Wells Two
enters the time stream.

INT. TIME STREAM – THE WELLS

Streaks through a sea of plasma energy.

INT. WELLS TWO – MOVING

Perry looks down at the monitor.

CLOSE-UP – MONITOR

The reactor's power output drops to five percent.

BACK TO SCENE

The KLAXON sounds within the ship.

					PERRY
I've found the base's homing beacon!

					YAZID
		We're going home…

INT. TIME STREAM – THE WELLS TWO

Steers toward a BRIGHT LIGHT.

As the ship nears the light's entry point an OBJECT drifts toward it.

It's a piece of Hoessler's ship! It COLLIDES with the side of the Wells
Two. It tears a long gash along the underside of its hull.

INT. WELLS TWO

The impact ROCKS the ship violently.
					PERRY
		We've got a hull breach!

INT. TIME STREAM - WELLS TWO

Oxygen shoots out from the breached opening of the vessel. It acts as a
jet, propelling the ship into an out of control spiral.

The Wells Two is thrown off course, away from the light and into the
path of a SWIRLING BLACK HOLE. Gargantuan in size, it swallows
everything in its path.

The Wells is about to be sucked in when ORBS of LIGHT suddenly appear
around her. They "push" her back into the light's path.

INT. TIME CHAMBER

A FLICKERING pin-sized dot of LIGHT appears. It GROWS

INT. CONTROL TOWER

A wide-eyed TECHNICIAN sees the even unfolding.

					TECHNICIAN
		General! Something's coming through

INT. TIME CHAMBER

The Wells Two emerges from time stream – carried by the GLOWING LIGHTS.
The ENTITIES gently place the damaged ship down on its base.

THE HATCH

Is opened. Perry, John and Yazid climb out. They remove their helmets.

					PERRY
We ran out of oxygen and we're
		still alive.

The orbs of light re-enter the still-opened time stream
–- all except one. It takes humanoid form and faces the Wells Team.

Within the form's SHIMMERING RADIANCE the faint outline of a face
APPEARS.

It's Daniel. He smiles at them.

Perry, John and Yazid watch in awe as Daniel's humanoid form regresses
back into a GLIMMERING SPHERE OF LIGHT.

Daniel drifts back into the time stream. The opening ebbs then closes.

Military PERSONNEL, led by General Nelson enter the chamber.

Nelson faces the team. He greets them with a reassuring smile.

					NELSON
		Welcome home.

John, Perry and Yazid return the gesture.

WIDER ANGLE – LOOKING DOWN

A growing crowd surrounds John, Perry and Yazid as they're welcomed
back… from their Voyage.
