The Assembly
a script by Cody Perkins


Scene 1 - Main Titles

Logos appear and fade. 5 seconds of blackness then suddenly: titles 
begin playing.  After a few title screens appear, the title appears in 
plain white military letters and it quickly cuts to black and then:

Scene 2 - School Hallway

We OPEN from BLACK on a shot of an empty hallway.  CAMERA gets several 
angles of all the hallways in the school. All empty, then after 30 
seconds of empty hallways, we hear a LOUD BELL. We see doors open and 
hundreds of students pour out into the hallway.  Each doing their own 
thing. Some walk into other classrooms, some talk with their friends 
(girlfriend/boyfriend/friends) in the hallway. 

We do a time lapse with DISSOLVES: showing the hallway getting emptier 
and emptier by the minute. SUDDENLY, after about five time lapses, the 
hallway is completely empty.

Scene 3 - Outside School/Principal's Office

CAMERA cuts to the outside of the school. We see three teens stuffing 
guns and knives in their bookbags. They walk into the school. CAMERA 
cuts to them walking to the office. Cuts again as they walk down the 
hallway to the principal's office.

The principal is sitting at his desk reading some papers.  He SEES the 
three boys walk down the hall and come into his office.

Principal - Uh, hello. Can I help you gentlemen?

Boy #1 - Uh, yeah. I was just wondering if you give me another copy of 
my schedule.

The principal nods and goes to his computer and turns out:

Principal - What is your na—?

As soon as he turns around he sees the guns and knife pointed in his 
face.

Principal - OK, boys! What is the problem here?

Boy #2 - Listen to me carefully. I want you to call a mystery assembly 
in the gym.  And as soon as you get them all in the gym, chain the 
doors shut. We'll give you further instructions from there.

The principal agrees to the plan and calls over the intercom:

Principal - Attention, students! We will be having an assembly in the 
gym starting now. Please make your way to the gym. Teachers remain in 
the room! Thank you!

Intercut between the announcement we get shots of the teachers in the 
room giving confused looks.  We see a few teachers say, "Well, you 
heard him. Ya'll head over to the gym."

We see the hallway get fuller again and we cut to a shot of the parking 
lot as it gets fuller too.

We FADE TO BLACK.

Scene 4 - The Gym

We OPEN from BLACK on a shot of the gym still being filled. CAMERA 
cranes over to the two main doors leading to the middle school being 
closed. CUT to the other side of the doors as we see the doors being 
chained by the three terrorists.

CAMERA cranes along the rows of chairs that are now completely full.  
As we CRANE we see everyone's reaction to all of this.  Some talk about 
it and shrug.

SUDDENLY, the principal walks onto the stage:

Principal - The reason we have called this assembly because I was 
forced to. Three youths have threatened to kill me unless I called this 
assembly and brought you all in here. You can't get out because the 
doors are chained shut.  They will remain unchained until we get word.  
Just remain in here until I tell you otherwise.

The principal walks off the stage and off to the side.  CAMERA cuts to 
the students again. CAMERA slowly dollies down the rows and then it 
suddenly stops and focuses on one student:

Victor - OK! This is really freaky! This would make a great movie!

CAMERA moves over to show another student:

John - Damnit, Victor. This is no time for jokes. This is serious. 

Victor shrugs it off and we FADE TO BLACK.


Scene 5 - Classrooms

We OPEN from BLACK on a shot of the hallways. Empty, again. Until we 
see the three boys walking down the hallway. Two with their guns 
resting on their shoulders and one with the knife resting at his side. 
They walk into the first room they come to.  The teacher is sitting at 
her desk. She is grading papers and she looks up at the three boys.

Teacher #1 - Oh my god! What's going on here?

They grab the teacher. The CAMERA dollies over from the doorway to the 
teacher as the three boys grab her arms and neck to keep her from 
struggling. One boy puts his gun to her forehead. CAMERA cranes over to 
the writing board. We SEE blood splatter on the board. WE CUT to a shot 
of the teacher falling down dead.  The three boys walk out. 

CUT to the HALLWAY again. They walk into every room. We don't see them 
die, but hear their screams and the gun shots and the dead bodies 
falling. They walk to every hallway in the school, shooting and killing 
every teacher in every room. 

FADE TO BLACK after two minutes of shootings.

Scene 6 - Gym

We OPEN from BLACK on the noisy gym again. CAMERA is placed in front of 
the main doors as we see the three kids come into the gym, their guns 
placed back in their backpacks. 

The principal sees them and walks over to them.

Boy #3 - We're done. We're gonna leave now. Don't bother calling the 
cops because we killed them right before we came here.

The principal stands in shock. 

The boys walk off. CAMERA moves back over to the principal's face. It's 
still got the same shocked look.

The principal gets back up on the stage:

Principal [with a little fear in his voice] - You all can go now. It's 
over.

CUT to a shot of the three terrorists walking out in front of the 
school towards home.

CUT back to the doors as the students all walk out. Still, unsuspecting 
as to what happened.
FADE TO BLACK

Credits begin rolling. They last for a minute and a half before the 
screen goes black.

After the credits, a video plays of an empty classroom when a student 
comes in the door and sees the dead teacher.  The student starts 
screaming. More and more come in and continue to scream as we FADE TO 
BLACK.

Logos appear and disappear.
