A GUARD checks and interrogates Sean.
GUARD
Are you carrying anything with you,
paraphenilia, like that?
SEAN
(drunk)
Wanna check me?
Sean gives him a harmless to an extent attitude as he walks
through the scanners.
The guard simply looks toward Dan, who has an attitude now.
GUARD
You carrying anything with you?
Dan pulls out his shades and puts them over his eyes.
His attitude...
DAN
No.
The guard does not like this response.
GUARD
Your friend was drunk. I'll have to
arrest him for public intoxication.
DAN
Go ahead, ain't my problem.
GUARD
It is, because when youget pulled
over they're gonna arrest you and
that is never any fun.
He checks his ID.
GUARD
ID, then.
Dan shows him his ID for only a second and walks off.
DAN
(mutters)

and down the street to the border crossing.

The border inspector takes a clean look at their SUV before
making any rash desicions.
EXT. DRIVE BORDER CROSSING - DAY
Where the SUV awaits it's inspection, and where Dan and Sean
both lay low for the moment.
MOVE INSIDE SUV FROM SIDE AND REVEAL both Sean and Dan as
they see who comes out to inspect, and as they lay low.
Dan looks and sees. They both begin to lie so far down, we
cannot see them. Fortunately their windows are rolled up.
EXT. DRIVE BORDER CROSSING - DAY
The man who gave them attitude, and took their map, walks
around their SUV with a mirror, looking only under it to
make sure nothing is outta place.
On Kate's side, the other border guard comes and questions
her.
GUARD
Bueno.
KATE
Hey.
GUARD
So, what's your purpose for coming
to Mexico?
Kate, suprised with that question, takes a second to come up
with an answer.
KATE
Visiting a friend, she lives in
Veracruz.
GUARD
All day drive. Gotta watch out.
Could be drug runners or kidnappers
out on these roads down south.
KATE
Thought y'all had that under control.
GUARD
It's never under control.
The guard looks to the passneger seat, then looks toward the
back seat.
GUARD
Who are they?
KATE
(turns around)
Friends.
THe guard looks skeptical about her response. The guard
turns toward Sean, then Dan.
GUARD
You all got an ID on you?
The guard looks at Dan, the front passenger, then looks down
to his partner with the mirror. He checks them through.
The guard looks back toward Kate.
GUARD
All right, go on.
He signals for them to pass through and to enter Mexico.

The SUV passes by a lot of poor housing and a low economic
area.
INT. SUV - DAY

Brown rags and green rags are what take over this area of

INT. SUV - DAY
Sean looks around, tryin' to act natural with the
surroundings.
Comparing the men outside with Sean, and Dan, they both
resemble each other. Sean wears his white tee and dark blue

Kate, wearing a spaghetti top shirt, with her faded blue

begin a coat that'll remain until the rain washes it away.
A MEXICAN FOOD JOINT lingers within the distance.

looks at her gas gauge.
KATE
Guys, I gotta use the bathroom.
She pulls into the dusty parking lot.
EXT. MEXICAN JOINT - DAY
The SUV tumbles into what is pavement with the collection of
a lot of dust. We also see a few motorcycles parked in the
way.
As the SUV jolts again, it kicks up dust as the door Kyle is
sitting at immediately opens up to see Kyle exit.
We then move down to see Sean also exit the SUV from the
door behind Kyle.
SEAN
Place don't look half bad.
They head for the front and enter.
INT. MEXICAN JOINT - DAY
Sean heads to the front bar, the only place to sit and eat.
SEAN
(the first to order)
You got any Taquila?
The bartender soon looks at him.
NOTE: Italics denote words in Spanish
BARTENDER
Can I see your ID please?
Sean pulls out a wad of twenties, and hands his one.
BARTENDER
That's fine.
Sean slams the twenty dollar bill on the table as Kyle and
Dan sit down next to him, looking at him as the bartender
gets his drink.
DAN
Sean, you're already drunk.
The bartender passes him the drink.
SEAN
(drunk)
You can't stop me.
He takes the shot. Dan sits down and orders himself a drink
also.
DAN
(unimpressed)
Can I get the same thing?
The bartender looks at him, knowing he has money to spare,
and does so without questions.
Kate returns and sits next to Sean, watching him take a single
shot.
KATE
Dan, don't get drunk.
Sean turns to Kate, then to Dan, who takes a shot, then looks
at Kate. kate gets up and exits the cafe. Sean and Dan
follow close behind.
EXT. MEXICAN FOOD JOINT - DAY
The wind blows as they walk to the SUV. The clouds beggining
to take shape.
KATE
Shit, I hope it doesn't rain.
Sean gets in first, then Kate and Dan. As soon as the doors
are closed, the rain begins to fall, the head lights come on
and the engine roars as they back out of the parking space.
INT. SUV - DAY
Dan beacons forward to turn on the radio, but getting only
Tejano stations, he flips in his mix CD. Hard rock blares
from the car stereo.

the music blairing.
Kate eyes a stop light up ahead.

We find ourselves traveling through the desert, still raining
outside. A huge thunder storm is passing over them.
The Expedition passes through FRAME, kicking up puddles of
water from the rain.
INT. SUV - DAY
Sean gets settled in, then looks at Dan for something.
SEAN
(drunk)
Where we headed?
Dan pulls out the map and look at it. he is quiet for a
second, then...
SEAN
(attitude)
Where we headed?
DAN
I dunno.
SEAN
What do you mean you don't know.
DAN
I can't read this, it's in Spanish.
SEAN
(laughs)
Spanish?
KATE
(not funny)
Spanish?
DAN
Yeah, Spanish.
SEAN
You didn't buy one of these in
English?
DAN
(attitude)
You know what, I didn't think of it.
Dan puts the map down and looks ahead and sees a sign. He
reads it as it come along.
DAN
San Fiona, 30 miles.
EXT. HIGHWAY - DAY
Despite it raining, they have breached the real sanctuary of
the HOTTER THAN HELL, 110 degree DEGREE. The Expedition
zooming away from any city and industrial establishments.
The Expedition flyes past FRAME, entering a very vivid
landscape of nothing more than maybe an old ghost town and a
lot of cactus.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate looks both hot and tired. She reaches and flips the
A/C on to FULL BLAST.
She continues paying attention to the wet and lonely roadway
in front of her.
EXT. SINGLE LANE ROAD - DAY
POV. FROM A SPECTATORS, POINT OF VIEW...
INT. SUV - DAY
The SUV is booming with loud music. Kate gets tired of
listening to it and ejects the CD Sean put in a while back.
KATE
We got anything else?
DAN
No.
KATE
Why not?
DAN
I didn't have time to get anything
else.
Kate changes the radio, trying to find a station. But only
static.
KATE
Well this is all we got then, enjoy.
kate clicks to radio off after finding a bunch of nothing.
Dan sits back, looks out the window, into the storm, the
rain and mud.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. DESERT - TWENTY MINUTES LATER - DAY
Splashing by on mud... in the complete middle of nowhere.
Enter the SUV...
INT. SUV - DAY
... Kate's cell phone, and the charger. The cell phone signal
reads only one bar of service connection, then reads no
service connection.
MOVE UP from the cell phone. Kate, bored, but on full alert
at the wheel driving through the rain, staring into the never
ending storm. Dan and Sean doing the same...
EXT. DESERT - DAY
The rain continuing to pour severly blinds Kate from the
road ahead. The rain is heavy at the moment and does not
let up for some time.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate tries to keep her control over the vehicle, but the
occasional HYDRAPLANE effect happenes a few short times.
KATE
Whoa!
Trying to maintain control over the huge SUV driving at the
speed she is.
SEAN
Kate, slow down.
Kate takes her foot off the gas lightly and waits for the
speedometer to show the vehicle slowing down.
Everything is a blur ahead of them. They are about to come
face to face with the most treacherous part of this storm.
It is black in front of them.
The windshield wipers struggle to wash away all the rain
that falls from above. Kate clicks on the wipers at maximum
volume.
KATE
Guys, you see anything up ahead?
It's all blury for me.
EXT. TOP OF EXPEDITION - DAY
Water splashing around from all over, barely able to make
out anything in the distance. There is an object in their
view.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate sees something coming at them, but what?
DAN
Kate, you're doin' fine. Just don't
run us off the road.
The object coming from the other direction continues at us.
It is either a car or an animal.
KATE
Am I on my side of the road?
Sean rolls down his window quickly to see where they are on
the road.
EXT. SUV, WINDOW - DAY
Sean looks out the window in the wet and windy rain to see...
INT. SUV - DAY
... Sean pulling himself back inside the SUV and rolling up
the window.
SEAN
Yeah.
STILL, ahead of them, the object continues down toward them.
EXT. SUV, FRONT HEAD LIGHTS - DAY
The head lights blaring out front, can only see a short
distance into their wake.
INT. SUV - DAY
Dan and Sean watch the front as Kate veers to each side,
trying to control the fast going SUV in the middle of a
treacherous rain storm.
Lightning strikes within mere miles and causes a huge bright
mass of light over them, blinding them.
KATE
Whoa!
Kate lunges with her eyes, blind for a second. When she
opens them, something in front her her...
EXT. DESERT - DAY
... to run off the main drag, by a few feet off the shoulder
of the narrow road.
She nearly runs the SUV off while tryin to gain control,
steering the SUV back onto the road.
INT. SUV - DAY
In a whirlwind...
SEAN
Whoa!
DAN
Whoa, look out!
Kate pulls herself together in the blink of an eye, pulling
the whell to the left, and the SUV back onto the road.
KATE
Shit!
Sean looks out the back window, seeing what they nearly ran
off the road to avoid hitting.
SEAN
What the hell was that?
KATE
How much further is the next town?
Kate looks in the rear view mirror while trying to calm
herself down by that sudden run-by of another motorist.
EXT. SUV - DAY
TRAVELING ALONGSIDE as the rain continues to pour. PULL
BACK to see the rest of the desert... the rest of the storm,
it is not over yet.
INT. SUV - DAY
Dan looks very alert, as does Kate, who looks like she's
been in the sun too long.
An effort to relax a bit, she puts on the music.
The stations they get are still nothing more than static or
for Tejano listeners.
Kate sits behind the wheel, thinking of a tune instead...
CUT TO:
EXT. A ROAD SIGN - DAY
... with a huge "X" spray painted over the front of it. The
wet mud sticking to it like glue.
The rain dies down a little, giving us a first hand look at
what's next to come...
EXT. FURTHER DOWN - DAY
... more storm clouds coming in over from the south. The
wind blows more dust on the portion of desert that hasn't
been soaked in rain.
INT. SUV - DAY
The rain on a slight pause. Actually having drove through
and passed up several miles of storm in their way. They
continue to pass through unsoaked desert.
They roll the windows down and get a feel for the wet, but
now cool air.
KATE
It feels good outside.
Sean looks out the window and sees what they didn't see in
the rain... mountains that roll over the land scape
beautifully.
EXT. SUV - DAY
ALONGSIDE the SUV, CAMERA moving at a slower pace, allowing
for the SHOT to include the SUV, revealing the beauty of
Mexico. The mountains and all, to the horizon.
Lightning strikes in the distance, bringing on the possibility
that this is not yet over.
ON HOOD OF SUV
Kate watching the sky continue to move over them.
KATE
(eyeing the clouds)
I don't think this storm is over
yet.
More lightning awaits them in the next ten miles of travel.
ESTABLISH SHOT: on the ground. Watch as the SUV speeds by,
the wind picking up, then the lightning continuing.
INT. SUV - DAY
The dry windshield, now picking up tiny sprinkles from the
even worse weather ahead of them.
LIGHT RAIN begins to fall for a few moments, but the windows
remain down.
DAN
I hope this rain stops before we get
there.
They begin to feel the wind rush inside from the storm
outside.
FROM THE BACK SEAT as Sean gazes out at the storm clouds
traveling above their head.
Even more lightning from the distance. A severe thunder
storm...
He can see the rain coming at them from a distance. As the
rain approaches, it hits them like a shower turning on.
Kate clicks the windshield wipers on as she rolls up all the
windows.
She turns to Dan...
KATE
(hostile)
This rain's never gonna end.
Dan exchanges his weary face as she slows down some more.
Dan sees the clock in the dash board. it reads: 12:46...
SEAN
Don't know when will it be over?
Kate looks into the rear view mirror...
KATE
I don't know. I'm not the fuckin'
weather bimbo on Channel 8.
Without consent...
DAN
She's hot.
A beat.
KATE
She's also married to the richest
man in Arizona.
Strong.
SEAN
Ohh, too bad.
He laughs along with his words.
Outside the rain picks up even more. It begins to pour again
as they head further into no mans land.
EXT. CHECK POINT - DAY
Beyond the rain from above, the SUV comes to a halt behind
some vehicles as they wait at a check point station.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate turns off the engine and rolls down her window. Dan
and Sean get up and open their doors.
KATE
Stay inside. I don't know what this
is.
SEAN
It's a road check point. It's fine.
KATE
Just stay in the damn car.
Dan leans forward, watches as the car in front of them starts
up and accelerates forward just a bit.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. CHECK POINT - DAY
A few vehicles later, the SUV looms ahead, waiting to approach
the station.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate eyes a man approaching the SUV and rolls down the window
all the way. She gets up in her seat and pays full attention.
GUARD
I need to see some ID and registration
please.
KATE
What is this?
GUARD
Mandatory.
CUTS OF:
various vehicles being searched for drugs and people coming
from the other way.
GUARD
We have to search every vehicle that
comes through here.
The guard checks Kates ID and reads the registration, then
hands it back to her.
GUARD
What's your purpose for visiting?
KATE
I'm heading to Verucruz. I have an
old friend who lives there who wants
me to see her.
GUARD
You're not carrying anything under
the vehicle are you?
A beat.
GUARD
it is only procedure we search under
your car.
Another guard brings a mirror connected to a handle who takes
it under the body of the SUV and surveys the entire under
structure. As they finish, The guards waves them off.
EXT. CONTINUOUS ROAD AHEAD - DAY
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. A SMALL TOWN - DAY
Where there is not much but two shacks left standing. The
SUV slows down as it enters the town.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate surveys the town asshe drives through it at 30 miles
per hour.
In the back...
SEAN
Stop for a second, I needa take a
piss.
Kate looks for a place to stop. She looks around and waits
till they have left the town before stopping.
SEAN
Kate?
KATE
Hold on.
EXT. THE SMALL TOWN - DAY
Just outside of the small town, Kate brings the SUV to a
standstill along side the road. Sean gets out of the SUV
and heads into some bushes to do his business.
FROM THE BUSHES, Kate makes sure nothing happens to Sean
while he takes a piss.
KATE
Dan, if you gotta go, you better do
it now.
(beat)
It's fixing to pour even harder.
Sean, still taking a piss, finishes and heads back to the
SUV.
He closes the door, they zoom off again down the road.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate, before she speeds down the road, takes notice where
they are, and eye balls the area.
KATE
You know, I never woulda thought
this is what Mexico looked like.
(beat)
I always though it was just a bunch
of hotter than hell desert.
Her words mean nothing to the rest of the SUV, Sean and Dan.
DAN
Yeah, okay.
Soon, the rest pof the rain is dumped onto the SUV, causing
further blankness down the road.
KATE
Shit, now I can't see anything again.
And with the windshield wipers at full throttle, it is still
difficult.
SEAN
Keep it under 40 then.
KATE
It would take us all day to get there
and back if I drive 40 the rest of
the day.
A tight beat.
SEAN
No, no, 40 for now. You don't wanna
fly off the road.
Kate continues at the speed she is driving: 65, a speed that
could land them in a ditch in this weather.
KATE
Sean, don't worry, just sit back and
try to relax for a second.
SEAN
That's what you shoud do.
Kate knows he's right, but she's helming the wheel, no time
for mistakes.
POV. THE WINDSHEILD... something else looms in front of
them...
They don't see it until it hit them though. The rain
continies to fall as they veer a corner.
EXT. DESERT ROAD - DAY
Unable to see what's behind the corner, Kate takes her foor
off the gas for a second.
The SUV begins to HYDRAPLANE off to the other side of the
narrow road. Anyone in the other lane would hit them head
on.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate can feel the SUV gliding all over the road. The onlt
thing she can do however is keep pulling the wheel to the
right.
DAN
Kate, we're sliding. Keep us in our
lane.
But it's nearly too late when ANOTHER CAR is right in front
of them...
DAN
What is that?
Kate JERKS the WHEEL as far to the right as she can, but
still gliding along the wet road.
SEAN
SHIT!
As the car just barely missesd them as heads into the other
side of the road.
EXT. DESERT ROAD - DAY
The other car screeches by, but not hitting the SUV. Honking
its horn as it passes.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate is in a whilrwind, trying to keep the SUV on the road,
but losinf sudden control of where she steers.
KATE
Fuck!
She drives off into the desert mud...
EXT. DESERT - DAY
The SUV makes it a great distance from the road as Kate pulls
the emergency brakes to stop it.
The SUV barely avoids crashing into a valley of mud and cactus
they wouldn;t be able to get out of.
INT. SUV - DAY
Tha SUV, stopped, in the middle of nowhere. Stuck in the
mud...
Kate puts the SUV into REVERSE and gases it. She can feel
the SUV moving through the mud. Sean and Dan both looking
back to see where they are.
Kate takes her foot off the gas when she realizes she's not
going anywhere.
EXT. SUV - DAY
Kate opens her side door and gases it some more to see if
she is going anywhere.
They are stuck in mud.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate puts the SUV into PARK and sits there for a second
until...
DAN
We stuck?
KATE
I can't pull us out.
She looks toward Dan, both silent, both stunned. Dan opens
his door and looks to the ground, he doesn;t want to get
out.
DAN
You can't pull us out?
In an effort to show Dan what kind of a problem they are
in...
She puts the SUV back into REVERSE and juises it, bit not
going anywhere.
SEAN
What now?
A long beat.
KATE
How far are we from the next town?
Dan snatches the map from the floor and looks at it with
Kate.
KATE
Where are we?
As they look at the map...
THE MAP...
Their fingers going every which way, looking for where they
think they are.
DAN
That town we passed, I think is right
here...
he continues down the map...
DAN
... could possibly mean we're...
(a long beat)
... here. I think.
Kate glances up at him.
KATE
You think?
DAN
I don't fuckin' know, my best guess.
KATE
You're best guess?
DAN
Yeah.
In the back, Sean nods to their last words, then beacons
forward to them.
SEAN
Where are we?
KATE
We don't know.
SEAN
Y'all're talkin' about the next town,
well how far is that?
Kate looks back to Sean, thinking the next worst thing they
have to do.
KATE
I don't know, but it looks like we're
walkin' from here.
DAN
I coulda told you that.
KATE
Shup up.
Sean doesn't like the idea, looking outside at the storm
around them go by.
SEAN
If it boils down to that.
Sean rolls down his window to see what the weather is still
like behind the tinted window.
EXT. DESERT - DAY
PULL BACK FROM: the SUV, where they are in the middle of the
desert. The middle of a vast expanse of mud from here to
the eye can see.
The only way out of this is by pushing, or towing...
INT. SUV - DAY
STILL RAINING, Sean rolls the window back up, getting wet
from the droplets plashing down.
They sit there in quietness for a few minutes, until...
The WINDOW rolls down to a cloudy, but not raining desert.
Sean opens the door and feels the air outside.
SEAN
See if you can pull us out now.
Kate turns the engine back on and puts the SUV into REVERSE
again.
Sean closes the door before any mud can get inside. His
window still down.
EXT. SUV - DAY
The SUV, wheels rolling through harsh mud, stays in one spot
as Kate gases it.
SEAN
(desperate)
Come on, come on, come on...
He brings himself back inside the SUV and sees how much gas
Kate is putting.
SEAN
More Kate, more.
Kate puts on more gas. The SUV begins to move slowly through
the mud, but not anywhere near the road.
SEAN
C'mon, can ya give it anymore?
KATE
Sean, this is as much as I can give
it.
(beat)
You wanna try?
Sean stops, thinks about it for a second...
SEAN
Can I?
Kate ignores his reply, knowing she's not fixing to let him
drive the SUV.
She takes her foor off the gas pedal and turns off the engine,
sits there and thinks about everything going on in her head.
KATE
(explodes)
This isn't happening. I have to be
home tonight, not in the middle of
the Mexican desert with you two,
stuck in the fuckin' mud.
(beat)
We have to get out and push the bitch.
Dan looks to Kate, he doesn't have much time left.
DAN
I gotta get my brother outta jail
before the end of today, so lets get
this thing outta the mud now.
Dan, without hesitating, gets out of the SUV, into a shit
load of mud that lies everywhere.
EXT. SUV - DAY
Dan looks around, but not down. he heads to the front of
the SUV and looks for the road.
THE ROAD, from his POV. measuring the distance it is from
here.
Sean opens his door and slowly steps out into the deep mud
filled desert.
SEAN
How far we from the road?
Dan points to the road, Sean looks in the other direction,
also measuring the acute distance.
SEAN
Think we can get er' out in less
than half an hour?
kate rolls down her window and looks at Dan, at the front of
the SUV.
KATE
Can you two push while I reverse?
Dan looks at Sean, who immedietely comes to the front of the
SUV and gets ready to push her out of the thick mud.
INT. SUV - DAY
Kate gently puts her foot down on the gas and presses until...
EXT. SUV - DAY
... mud begins to fly everywhere. Sean and Dan, both in
front of the SUV push as hard as they can, but only slipping
in the intensly thick mud.
SEAN
Give her more Kate!
Dan and Sean continue pushing the SUV, but get beaten by the
thick, slippery.
DAN
We're not pushin' it anywhere.
Sean stops for a moment and sees they are still where they
began not a minute earlier.
SEAN
What do we do then? if we can't
push her out.
Dan stops, thinking to himself about it. Sean looks toward
Kate as Dan thinks for a few quick moments of what to do
next.
Kate, foot off the gas, puts the SUV into PARK and shuts her
off.
DAN
We'll pull it out then.
(eyeballs Sean)
We got'ny long, very very strong
rope?
Sean beacons to Kate, who hasn't gotten out of the SUV yet,
but is gonna in a few seconds.
SEAN
Kate, we got'ny rope?
Kate, in the front seat, gets out of the driver's seat and
tries to push herself to the back seat of the SUV.
KATE
I'll check, hold on.
As Kate fixates herself into gremoving herself from the
driver's seat to the back seat, Sean and Dan just consider
going to the back for themselves.
THE BACK GATE... opens, Dan and Sean are greeted by Kate
stumbling around in the back seat.
DAN
It would be easiler to come outside
and help us.
KATE
I ain't fixin' to get all muddy.
SEAN
The ground's nothing but mud dumb
shit.
Kate finally gets herself in a possible position of being
able to be help full.
Kate sits up and sticks her legs out the back gate of the
SUV.
They all give off a huge sigh. Then look around at the
whether.
More clouds loom above and are peaking very low.
SEAN
It's raining again.
Sean turns to Dan, who is veering in his own direction, then
turns to Kate, unconfronted.
A beat. Dan stikes in the conversation again.
KATE
What next?
Another long beat before...
SEAN
We'll take a cab back here, no big
deal.
(laughs)
And, I don't think we'll have to
worry about the car being stolen...
So...
This comes at a bad time for them in general. Kare doesn;t
want to leave her SUV alone, and it is going to rain again.
KATE
Okay, hold on a second then.
Kate gets up and goes to the driver's seat once more and
removes the keys to the SUV. She also grabs her purse.
Dan comes around the side of the SUV...
DAN
Kate, just leave that. It's better
here, in case something happens to
us.
KATE
Like...?
SEAN
Like if we're gunned down, not...
saying that's gonna happen, but if?
Kate gives a long look at Sean and Dan. She puts the purse
inder the driver's side seat and makes sure it is not visible
to anyone who might happen to come upon their SUV.
DAN
Okay, you ready?
KATE
We're gonna need an umbrella.
SEAN
Do you have one?
KATE
No.
SEAN
Then we don't need one then.
Kate hops into all the mud and water on the ground below.
Before she closes the door and locks it, she snatches her
CELL PHONE from the charger.
She closes the door and locks it, having the keys, she feels
better.
Sean closes the back gate and makes sure it won't open for
anybody.
SEAN
We're set.
He looks toward Dan and sees...
SEAN
We set?
DAN
Lets go.
Kate follows close behind Dan as he and Sean head for the
highway. The storm clouds still developing over them.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
Approaching the narrow road that leads nowhere in both
directions. Few cars pack the road, but none even stopping.
WIDE SHOT... of the road they are on, and of Mexico, the
mountains and the weather.
Kate looks back at the SUV, hoping nothing happens to it.
Sean sees her doing this for a moment.
SEAN
Kate, the truck'll be fine. If we
couldn't get it out of the mud, who
else will?
A tight moment.
KATE
What if someone with a tow truck
takes off with it?
DAN
Then we'll know where to find them.
Kate continues with the road ahead of then, uncertain of
their future right now.
To Dan, in a moment of crisis.
SEAN
Dan, I hate to say this, but we might
not get there before the end of the
day today.
(beat)
We might be out here till maybe the
night.
Dan looks at his wrist watch and checks the time.
DAN
It's only one-o'clock. We'll make
it there.
Sean gazes forward down the road, also just as uncertain as
Kate is at this point in time.
EXT. THE WIDE OPEN SCEENIC ROUTE - DAY
Walking a slow pace down the unknown road ahead of them. A
WIDER SHOT of the DESERT as they march down an open country
road with nothing more than their useless cell phones.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
They continue walking slow down this unforgiving road of
changing themes. They walks past open desert, fresh shrubs,
then have to walk up a mountain.
As Dan continues... His CELL PHONE rings... As he answers
it...
DAN
(looks at phone)
Who the fuck is this callin' me?
(he answers)
Yeah?
A long beat... then...
A VOICE...
VOICE (V.O.)
Is this Danial?
A longer beat.
DAN
Who's this?
VOICE (V.O.)
I want my fuckin' money by tonight!
DAN
If you don't get it, what're you
gonna do?
VOICE (V.O.)
Then you and your fuckin' brother
are DEAD! Do you fuckin' hear me
bitch? DEAD!
(beat)
Now where is your stupid fucking
brother at anyway? I was supposed
to do business with him, but he never
showed...
DAN
Fuck you!
Dan hangs up his cell phone without cause, or without a damn.
Kate gives him a glance, then turns to Sean, who knows there's
something up.
KATE
Who was that?
DAN
Fuckin' brother's dope dealers.
(tunrs to her)
That's why we be doin' this.
(beat)
Cuz my brother's stupid.
Kate doesn't like the answer too much to be thrilled.
KATE
Is that supposed to make me happy or
something?
DAN
No, it's supposed to be the truth.
(turns to her again)
Isn't that what you want right? The
truth.
KATE
Yeah, but I already know the truth,
I just don't wanna be hooked in with
all this drug deals and shit.
DAN
You won't, and you're not, so don't
worry.
(beat)
You're just driving us there, that's
all.
Kate smiles just for a second when she thinks about it, then
looks down the road.
KATE
How much money he got?
Dan, hesitating, doesn't want to answer the question.
KATE
How much monet does he have?
DAN
All I know is that he has enough
money to pay you back, that's all.
SEAN
And when we show up without a ride?
DAN
We're takin' a taxi ten miles, that's
all.
KATE
Taxi's don't run out this far, do
they?
DAN
We'll we'd better hope so.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
Walking alongside a canyon, next to some rusting guard rails,
they slowly continue down the road, and into the rest of the
day. Cars passing them by one by one.
It begins to sprinkle a little bit. Kate looks up when she
feels the light rain start to come down.
KATE
Oh, man!
OVER HEAD SHOT, looking down from about a hundred feet above,
walking, they look as tiny as ants crawling.
BACK TO:
EXT. ROAD - DAY
Following the winding road that'll eventually lead them into
the town of San Pedro Mexico.
From around the corner, as they walk, the rest of the road
becomes visible. The other side of the road leads into some
more patchy desert land.
WIDE SHOT of the desert within a huge spread out valley that
lies amonsgt them.
A shack looms in the distance.
SEAN
That the town over there?
Sean points to where he sees the shack in the distance, Dan
eye balls the area, but cannot say.
DAN
I don't know. It's too far to tell.
In the distance, the only thing that stands is the shack.
They walk further and further and further into the huge
valley, and come upon...
EXT. VALLEY - DAY
... a whole lotta nothing.
KATE
What time is it?
Dan checks his watch. The sun bares down on them for the
first time in mere moments. The sun refelct his watch.
DAN
It's 1:30.
Kate stubles as she walks, following behind them from a
distance of two feet. The day is hot and is only gonna get
hotter.
The sweat begins to fall from Kates face. She wipes it off
as it falls into her eyes and burns them.
CUT TO:
EXT. SMALL ESTABLISHMENT - DAY
As they walk. A small establishment begins to form in the
distance.
WIDE SHOT, the three of them walking from the LEFT side of
the screen, walking slowly to the RIGHT side of the screen.
CLOSER...
SEAN
This's gotta be something up here.
They make their way for what the begin approaching in the
distance.
EXT. A BRIDGE - DAY
WIDE SHOT as they show up and cross a huge bridge over a
bunch of nothing but dry sand, dirt and rocks.
ON THE BRIDGE, following them. They don't look back when
they should. They just keep following the rusted steel bridge
into the rest of Mexico. Cars drive in and out of the area
as the wind blows on them.
ANOTHER WIDE SHOT of the BRIDGE, watching them walk across
the deserted structue of concrete and steel.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
Making it across the bridge, they look back and see what
they just corssed over. A CASSAM od green and yellow.
A SIGN looms in the near distance. As they approach it,
Sean reads what's on it.
SEAN
We got five more miles.
KATE
How far'd we leave the SUV?
SEAN
Shit, an hour ago, I think.
KATE
We didn't walk that far.
(to Dan)
Did we?
Dan, walking past them.
DAN
I thought this place was in the middle
of nowhere.
SEAN
I'm just happy it's not dark yet.
They head further down the road. Further into the unknown.
The area around them changes as they gain more to San Pedro.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. A TRAIN CROSSING, OVER THE MAIN ROAD - DAY
The road dips into the ground, a small concrete bridge looms
over. Sean, Kate and Dan linger in the distance, approaching
the bridge. They slowly walk under it as they enter the
town of San Pedro.
SEAN
We finally here?
They walk underneith the bridge. On the side of the walls,
there are a ton of graffiti drawings.
DAN
Looks like it yeah.
EXT. SMALL TOWN - DAY
Entering the town of San Pedro, Mexico. The dust blows in
their way. This isn't the type of place people like Kate
and Sean come to.
EXT. INTERSECTION - DAY
The three approach an intersection and wait. As they wait,
tons of people flock around them, moving from one place to
another.
EXT. ACROSS THE STREET - DAY
Merchants are everywhere. There isn't a single place in
this town where there aren't any. They are approached by
some. They come bearing items for sale that they desperately
want money for.
SEAN
(to Dan and Kate)
Just watch yourself right.
While walking down the sidewalk, a man selling hats plays
into view. The desperate man, sitting in his chair, sees
them and tries to persuade Kate into buying some of his stuff.
STREET DEALER
(poor English)
Please, you want? Me sell for five
dollars.
(continues with his
hats)
I have beautiful hats for sell.
Pleaee, you want? You buy, now,
please.
Sean pushes away from the man while trying to do business as
Kate also tries to continue. Dan, behind Kate, puahes the
man away from Kate, and continues walking down the sidewalk.
As the man trying to sell them hats heads back to his chair,
having not sold any hats, looks at someone who intends on
persuading her to buy something.
Walking along a sidewalk now, they soon come face to face
with an angry local that runs a shaddy bar. Dan bumps into
him walking.
SHADDY BAR OWNER
(takes a look at him)
Watch yo step boy!
(a beat)
You lookin' for somethin'?
DAN
Yeah, some pussy.
The shaddy bar owner looks at him and smiles greatfully.
SHADDY BAR OWNER
I got tons o' that. Which do you
preffer, Latino, blonde, brunette?
DAN
Shaved.
SHADDY BAR OWNER
I got tons of that also. You need?
Dan looks at Sean, but not Kate. She is off in her world of
sanity trying to pass through the many people here.
SEAN
We ain't got no time for that dude.
(a beat)
Later man, all right?
Dan eyeballs Sean, then reverses back to the Mexican dealer.
DAN
We'll be back.
Him and Sean continue with Kate down the street.
CUT TO:
EXT. INTERSECTING STREET - DAY
Sean follows Dan, who leads the way. Kate staggers between
the two as they hurry through a busy street. Sean looks at
all the culture surrounding them.
The pass an empty intersection. To their side, a vehicle is
parked on the curb with two men surrounding it. As Sean,
Kate and Dan cross the street, the two men both eye the three,
then grab something from their pockets and head toward them.
Two men suddenly come out from nowhere, they grab hold of
Dan and shake him for money.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
Hey, vato.
Dan realizes what's going on, but does nothing to help his
cause.
DAN
I don't got no fuckin' money shit
head.
The second man pulls out a gun as the man knocks Dan in the
stomache and throws him to the ground.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
Money shit head, or...
(eyes kate)
... I take yo bitch and fuck her.
Sean heads toward Dan to give him help with the two, but
backs away and throws his arms up when the second man
withdraws his pistol toward him.
SEAN
Whoa, shit!
Kate moves watches in horror as his friend gets beat up for
money. They kick Dan in the chest before grabbing him by
the back and holding him with a gun to his head.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
(to second man, in
Spanish)
Pick his pockets.
The unfriendly Mexican takes a strong look towards Kate who,
to him, looks attractive enough for the unimaginable.
SEAN
We ain't got no money.
A group of kids runs past them, screaming loudly in their
wake.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
(laughing)
We keep him, ha ha ha...
(a beat)
And if you scream, you'll be feeling
a knife down the back of your throat.
The man holding Dan drags him as the other man continues
with a gun pointed toward them. They head backward down the
street, somewhere unknown, somewhere in hiding from the rest
of them. A kidnapping.
The two men run with Dan in their captivity, making sure he
cannot get away.
SEAN
Shit...!
The mexican holding Dan, keeping aim on his head yells...
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
I kill him.
They disappear into the crowd, down a back alley, into a
building. Sean hesitates, then backs behind a wall when one
other Mexican shoots at him in fury.
SEAN
Watch out!
Sean, after fleeing the mans bullets, slowly looks into the
alley, seeing no one, runs into it as fast as he can.
Kate turns to see Sean disappear into nowhere.
KATE
Sean?!
Kate follows him through the dark alley way, between the
towns old buildings.
EXT. STREET - DAY
The unfriendly mexicans taking hold of Dan, soon head into a
hidden door within the building and disappear.
Sean looks around the area, lookign for where they went to,
never to really know.
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
A door opens to a small room. A kind of shanty only within
these walls.
Dan is thrown onto the floor, being tied to a pipe for
assurences that he won't flee on his own. The man in charge
gets on his cell phone to make a call.
MEXICAN
(to his partner)
Check him for cash. Lets see what
he's worth.
(a beat)
Then we make ransom demands toward
family.
(into cell phone)
We have something to bargan with.
(a long beat)
Yes, we do... I'll call you in one
hour.
He hangs up his cell phone and looks toward Dan with angst.
His other Mexican friend, the one tying Dan, shuffles through
Dans pockets and comes upon the bail money.
SECOND MEXICAN
Hey, hey, I found something.
A beat
MEXICAN
What is it?
SECOND MEXICAN
He's loaded.
MEXICAN
Good.
In an attempt to hide the situation from against him...
DAN
It's bail money for someone locked
up here.
The Mexicans fumble around with Dans bail money, counting
how much he has, and how much they now have.
Once done, they look at him, then deiced if it is a rist to
do anything else with him for money.
MEXICAN
Should we?
SECOND MEXICAN
I don't know, is it worth it?
As they try and decied whether or not, what else they're
gonna do with him...

Dan for a moment.
JAIL GUARD
Only a minute.
Kate stands straight in front of the desk while Sean tells
Dave...
SEAN
We have a small problem.
Silently.
DAVE
What're you talkin' about? You're
here to get me out right?
Sean closens in, tightens up.
SEAN
I need money. Where is it?
Dave doesn't like the sounds of where this is going.
DAVE
Where's my brother?
SEAN
Kidnapped.
DAVE
Fuck.
Dave takes a deep breath again anf bends down and silently
tells him where it is...
DAVE
There's money behind a dumpster,
edge of town. Keep going straight...
Sean listens carefully as Dave hands out the instructions.
Dave not the wiser, but not having any faith.
SEAN
Where's Chris?
DAVE
I don't know.
SEAN
We have to find him. I'll be back.
Dave Gestures.
Sean heads back to the front desk, knowing what's next on
his agenda.
SEAN
(to the guard)
I'm done.
JAIL GUARD
That was longer than a minute. I
told you...
SEAN
It was important... I'll be back.
(to Kate)
We gotta go somewhere right quick,
come on.
As Kate and Sean exit...
CUT TO:

in all directions before...
... heading back into the town. But first though, he points

Kate, make sure nobody follows us
where we're goin'.
They walk down the rough street, into the outskirts of the
town.
EXT. SIDEWALK - DAY
Walking down the sidewalk, Kate watches her every step of
the journey, making sure nobody sees what's she doing.
CUT TO:
EXT. EDGE OF TOWN - DAY
A sign looms over them, the welcoming by the town as it reads.
Sean looks around, anywhere for a dumpster or anything
resembling one.
As he searches, he comes upon a bag of WHITE PILLS in a ziploc

He ponders for the money that has to be close by. He lands
his eyes on something plastic and shiny. The money...

JAIL GUARD
I can see. There's only one muchacho
here that looks like you.
The jail guard beacons to his jailer, who has the keys to
the jail cells, reacts.
JAIL GUARD
You have five hundred American
dollars?
Sean gets it out of his pocket and shows it to the jail guard,
who turns to the jailer, signaling to open the cell with
Dave and Chris.
JAIL GUARD
Do you know what they were busted
for?
SEAN
(pretends)
No, and I don't care.
The jail guard keeps guard, notices something outta place.
The guard looks frail, then lets the two prisoners go.
JAIL GUARD
Take him, and get outta Mexico. You
do not belong around these parts.
CUT TO:
EXT. JAIL - DAY
Once out, Dave begin to pump answers outta Sean.
DAVE
All right, where the fuck is Dan?
(looks around, there's
no ride)
And how we goin' home?
KATE
SUV's stuck in the mud.
SEAN
Where's Chris?
Dave comes to realive that they're here without a ride.
DAVE
And how the hell are we going anywhere
without a damn ride?
Clueless. But anyway...
DAVE
(all going through
his head at once)
All right, all right, then where'd
you see them take him?
SEAN
I don't know. I followed them down
a back alley, but nothing.
DAVE
Is that it?
SEAN
What else you want from me?
Kate tries to cool off the situation a bit.
KATE
Guys, calm down, we'll figure it
out.
Sean, looking at Dave, while Dave looks at Kate, thinking...
DAVE
All right fine. But we're gonna
find my brother now.
To Dave...
SEAN
No shit.
(a beat)
But first we need something that'll
keep us on guard.
Dave turns to Sean.
SEAN
Something to shoot with.
Dave looks terribly thrilled, but pissed off by the fact his
brother was kidnapped.
KATE
Where we headed?
Sean looks around, not knowing where they're going, but then,
an idea...
CUT TO:
INT. GUN STORE - DAY
Sean and Dave looking at big ticket items from the shelves.
Sean cocks a .45. Dave is trying out a REVOLVER MAGNUM.
Kate stands there, looking unholy while the men she is with
are playing around with guns.
The store owner is a bit curious as to why they need guns.
GUN STORE OWNER
You need these by when?
DAVE
Today...
SEAN
... now.
GUN STORE OWNER
What may I ask is your purpose for
such fire arms?
As he checks the barrel...
SEAN
Isn't it just your job to sell us
the guns?
Sean puts the gun on the counter and flips for Dave to do
the same.
Dave pops his gun next the Seans. Sean looks at Dave, who
looks back to Sean, wondering...
SEAN
(to Dave)
Got the dough?
Dave hesitates the pull his wad of cash to the table for
them to buy guns.
Dave pulls out a hundred and gives it to the man showing
them the guns.
GUN STORE OWNER
Gracias.
Dave looks toward Sean, then grabs his gun and heads out the
front...
CUT TO:
EXT. STREET - DAY
One the street, Dave tries to conceal his weapon from anybody
and everybody. And as he makes a path down the street, he
spots all the reasons of woneing a gun in this town.
Following him are Sean and Kate, heading in one direction;
where Sean lost Dan.
SEAN
Where's your other half?
DAVE
He's somewhere.
SEAN
I wanna know.
DAVE
He's probably at bar. he didn't get
caught.
SEAN
All we have to do is find him.
CUT TO:
EXT. BACK ALLEY - DAY
Sean leads Dave to a tight back alley where him and Dave
head into and look for where Dan might be,
DAVE
What's around here?
He looks around, walks toward the next open door.
Dave heads down the street, then stops, looks at the building
they were between, a shaddy bar.
DAVE
Come with me, I'm thirsty.
KATE
Where y'all going?
Sean prepares for what may be next on their agenda.
CUT TO:
INT. SHADDY BAR - DAY
Inside the shaddy bar are not too many people. There is one
person sitting at the bar, drinking shots.
Dave comes and sits down ona rickety barstool. Chris sits,
drinking.
DAVE
You been in here this whole fucking
time?
CHRIS
I didn't got nowhere to go when the
shit when down last night.
Chris sees Daves gun, realizes something but doesn't catch
on.
CHRIS
You think you're some bad ass coming
in here like this?
Kate makes her way into the bar, seeing where Sean and Dave
sit, approaches. He offers her something to drink as he
dries off a mglass mug.
SHADDY BAR OWNER
What do you need?
KATE
I'm fine, thank you.
Dave turns to him.
DAVE
I'll have a shot of Whiskey.
Sean beacons fourth to the bartender and tries to ask
something.
SEAN
My friend was kidnapped and taken
into a part of this building. Where
is he?
Chris looks toward Sean, continues drinking, watches Dave
take a shot.
BARTENDER
I know nothing about kidnapping.
SEAN
He was taken about twenty minutes
ago right behind this fucking building
and if you don't tell me shit, I
might loose myself and accidentally
let my gun go off.
BARTENDER
Is that what you're going to do?
Sean looks toward Dave, then grabs his gun and aims it toward
the un cooperating bartender.
Chris gets up, backs away.
CHRIS
(unbeknownst)
What the fuck you doing?
SEAN
He's in here somewhere. It's just
coincidence you're also here.
Sean beacons to Dave to lower his gun.
SEAN
You know some people that live in
this building don't you?
The bartender is quiet. Works as if Dave isn;t even pointing
a gun toward him.
BARTENDER
What do you need?
Dave points his gun toward the bartender again, then turns
to Sean.
DAVE
My brother.
From inside a back room, we hear the sound of a toilet
flushing. Sean turns as a man enters the bar. Sean eyes
him, then heads toward him with force.
Sean approaches the man he recognizes and pistol whips him
to the floor.
SEAN
Where's my fucking friend. Three,
two, one...
Sean shoots his gun into the wall, then points it back to
the man.
Dave turns to him, the throws him to the back of the wall
and slams him there.
DAVE
Who the fuck is that?
SEAN
This is him.
Dave, getting even more angry, shoots the bartender in the
legs.
SEAN
Where is he?
The shaddy bar owner is on his feet, but can do nothing but
lead Dave and Sean and Chris into a narrow hallway with many
doors.
CUT TO:
INT. NARROW COORIDOR - DAY
Chris holds the bartender with a gun to his head as Dave and
Sean search to rooms. Sean knocks on the doors before opeing
them.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
You don't wanna be messing with this
place.
Chris, wanna be angered.
CHRIS
Bitch shut sho' ass up motherfucka'!
Ain't no one talkin' to you.
SEAN
(force)
Ain't no one talkin' to you either
dumb shit.
Kate follows them inside the darkly lit cooridor. She does
not feel too safe in here.
KATE
Guys, where are we?
Dave continues to lead the way. He turns back every few
seconds to see that Chris has hold of their man in captivity.
As Chris continues holding him, the mexican somehow slips
out of Chris's hold.
Chris looks back rapidly...
CHRIS
Shit, Dave!
Dave looks toward Chris, aims his gun, pops a cap in his
leg. Blood flies as he flies to the floor.
DAVE
Don't worry about him.
(to Chris)
Worry about findin' my brother.
They all look toward the guy with a bullet in his leg. Dave
comes up to him...
POV. MEXICAN...
KATE
Fuck, what're you doing? How much
blood do you guys need to shed before
y'all are finished?
Sean looks toward Kate, then to the mexican on the floor
bleeding.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
Think before you act.
Kate tries to intervene with Dave's future act of killing.
KATE
What're you gonna to do to him?
Dave pulls his gun on him, ready to pull the trigger...
A noise, a noise that gets louder every second erupts from
one of the rooms in the narrow cooridor.
Sean slowly turns his head toward the door, looks, then bends
and looks through the key hole.
INT. KEYHOLE - DAY
A bed, and more noise...
BACK TO:
INT. NARROW COORIDOR - DAY
Sean sticks his ear up to a door and hears noise. It is the
sound of two people fucking.
Just as Dave slides his finger in to pull the trigger, sean
beacons forward...
SEAN
(silently to himself)
What the hell?
(he listens closer,
to his friends)
Guys...
(a beat)
... come here, someone's fuckin' the
shit outta some hoe up in here. She
sounds like she's just a kid or
something.
Dave turns to see Sean with his ears up against one of the
doors.
He backs away from pulling the trigger on the mexican and
goes to Sean.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
What're you going to do now tough
guy?
Dave swings back and grabs the mexican by the front of his
shirt and picks him up violently.
DAVE
I'll tell you what I'll do. If you
don't help me, you're ass is as good
as dead to me.
Dave throwa the injured man back to the floor, walks past
Kate and Chris and heads to Sean.
Dave moves Sean out of the way and without cause, violently
kicks the door in.
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
Where two people are fucking. A white young man, and a
Mexican prostitute.
Dave and Sean are the first to enter.
MAN
Shit, what the hell is this?
DAVE
Who the fuck are you?
MAN
Who am I?
Dave pulls off a round into the ceiling, plaster to falls
off. The man looks scared now.
DAVE
I ain't gonna ask again.
Dave aims the gun straight for the mans head, the woman in
agonizing fear and pain.
Chris and Kate come in, never to have witnessed what they're
gonna witness.
Kate sees the horror.
KATE
OH MY GOD!
She leaves the room, Sean follows her. Dave and Chris remain
inside to interrogate.
DAVE
What the hell are you doing?
MAN
(being hostile)
What does it look like I'm doing?
Dave shakes his gun in his face, in no position to give
orders.
DAVE
I'ma ask you a question, and you're
gonna give me an answer, hot shit,
all right?
MAN
(freezing up, hesitant)
Don't kill me.
DAVE
Where is my brother?
MAN
Who?
Dave swings back at the man in bed for not giving the correct
response to his question.
DAVE
Don't give me bullshit.
MAN
(looking straight
into gun barrel)
I don't know who your brother is.
( a beat)
I heard something about an hour ago
happening up stairs. Some fuckin'
Mexicans was takin' a kid up there
for some shit, I don't know.
A QUICK FLASHBACK
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
(FILTERED OUT FILM COLOR)
The Mexicans bring Dan into the room, tie him up,
continueously looks at watch, waits for phone call...
CUT BACK TO:
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
The man, remaining on the bed, looking like he's about to
shit himself.
DAVE
What that all?
MAN
I don't know. I've been in here the
whole time.
DAVE
Then how do you know what was going
on?
ANOTHER QUICK FLASHBACK
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
(filtered)
The MAN speaking with the Mexicans, the woman undressing in
the back, the Mexicans handing the MAN some money tucked in
a rubber band.
CUT BACK TO:
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
The man continues to try his luck with that response.
MAN
That's all I know.
Dave, looks at his gun, then back toward the man in bed, not
happy.
DAVE
(aims gun toward him)
That's not all.
(a beat)
What's your involvement?
MAN
(dark, shy, hesitant)
I own the place. Everything you're
standin' in, I own.
DAVE
Well you're about to un onw it in
just a second.
(a tight grip)
Where the fuck is he then?
MAN
Didn't tell me, didn't ask. I just
saw them drag a kid down the hall
with a gun at his head.
DAVE
Is he still alive?
MAN
Shit, your guess is as good as mine.
CUT TO:
INT. NARROW COORIDOR - DAY
Kate and Sean reenter the hallway, Kate looking very
displeased with what's going on.
SEAN
What?
KATE
I don't know.
(she points inside
the room)
I don't know, this. Look what's
going on.
Sean turns back to see...
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
Where Dave still stands high.
DAVE
Where's my brother?
MAN
What if I can help you?
BACK TO:
INT. NARROW COORIDOR - DAY
Kate leans up against the wall. Sean keeps his attention on
their friend in the hallway, looking at him. The man, the
mexican, takes his CROSS, necklace and kisses it for good
luck.
SEAN
Everything's gonna be fine. Don't
worry.
Sean just keeps watching, and turns frequently into the room.
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
Dave pulls the man up and outta bed. He is naked, but this
doesn't affect Dave.
DAVE
Then get up and tell me more.
The man stands in front of the window.
MAN
They're upstairs somewhere, armed
probably. That bartender out front
knows more. He's part of it too.
Dave gets up and heads to the door, having heard enough about
what and where his brother is.
INT. NARROW COORIDOR - DAY
Kate, standing there, watching the mexican as he tries to
fumble his way out of the hallway, but with not much luck.
Dave and Chris exit the room, guns ready, and loaded.
DAVE
Come one, he's still here.
SEAN
Where?
DAVE
We're goin' there right now.
(heads for bartender)
And he's gonna help us get there.
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
The Mexicans holding Dan hostage sit down at a table in front
of the door.
They play a game of POKER as they wait for a call from an
outside source.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
(checks watch)
He shoulda called by now.
They look at him, he looks at frail as the bartender down
stairs.
His partner shifts his eyes towards his cell phone, then
toward his gun.
CUT TO:
INT. ELEVATOR - DAY
Approaching the third floor, Dave and Sean surface first,
then Kate and Chris.
Dave checks the hallway to make sure it is clear, it is.
The mexican comes out in front of Dave and shows them which
room Dan is being held in.
Kate and Chris follow close by, weapons ready.
IN FRONT OF SEAN AND DAVE as they slowly creep forward down
the hall.
DAVE
(to bartender)
Which room is it?
CUT TO:
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
The same room where Dan looks half dead, tired and hungry.
He stays chained to the wall.
SUDDENLY...
A knock on the door.
The two Mexiccans turn toward it and grab their guns just in
case.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
Fucking finally!
He comes to the door, looks through the peep hole...
INT. PEEPHOLE - DAY
The mexican stands there, frail as ever, but alone...
BACK TO:
INT. SMALL ROOM - DAY
The man unlatches the door of several locks, a chain and a
key.
He slowly opens the door. As he opens the door, the Mexican
is thrown back by Dave with a SHOT GUN in hand and ready to
use.
DAVE
Back the motherfuckin' hell up!
Dave and Sean enter the room with haste. Chris comes in
behind Sean, then Kate.
CHRIS
Where the fuck is he?
Dave turns to Chris, not impressed.
DAVE
That's my fuckin' problem.
Dave looks toward the wall and sees him lying in the corner.
Dave strong arms the two men to the other side of the room.
They both look fazed, but ready.
Dave pulls off a blind fold from Dans face. Dan turns toward
him, then looks toward the two men. Dan tries to get up,
but falls back to the floor. Dave uses his shot gun and
shoots away the chain that holds him to the wall.
He grabs Daves gun and cocks it, moving rapidly toward the
two Mexicans. He ups their faces abd stops just centimeters
from their eyes.
UNFRIENDLY MEXICAN
Are you going to kill me?
(a beat)
You don't have the balls.
Dan looks in their eyes and violently SMACKS him in the jaw.
He falls to the floor violently. Chris holds onto the
bartender long enough to throw him to the floor. Dan turns
to Chris and sees he has a weapon.
DAN
Lets fuckin' off these hoe's.
Dan shoves the gun barrel to the mans nose, but a moment
later, he turns toward Dave.
DAVE
You gonna kill him?
DAN
This is what he did to me.
Dan backs away and shoots the man in the kneecap, then does
the other one. The two fall to the floor in a puddle of
blood. They moan as Dan kicks each in the stomache hard.
DAVE
What the fuck was this all about?
Dan looks toward Dave, Sean, Chris and Kate, then looks down
to the bartender.
DAN
Who the fuck is this?
DAVE
The guy who brought us up here.
Dan approaches the man and bends down toward them. Sean and
Kate watch as Dan aims the gun to his head and asks...
DAN
Do you wanna die?
(a beat, he shakes
his head)
That's good because I don't wanna
have to shoot you in the knee. Get
up!
The bartender gets up. Dave beacons forward and stops Dan.
DAVE
(pointing to safe)
What's in that?
They all look toward a safe next to the wall across from
where Dan was. The bartender looks at him and replies...
BARTENDER
No say.
Dave signals to Chris toward the safe. As he approaches,
one of the Mexicans slowly pulls out a REVOLVER. The
bartender sees it and slowly realizes he is in front of a
path for the bullet.
BARTENDER
SHIT!
The Mexcan fires a round into the crowd. The bullet his the
bartender. Dan cocks his weapon and shoots the man instantly.
The sheel flies into the mans head and splatters blood on
the wall behind him.
SEAN
Shit!
KATE
Are you guys fucking done yet?
Dave turns toward her, as does Dan.
DAN
Almost.
Dan approaches Chris over the safe and pops another shell
into the second Mexican. They both look down over the dead
body and grunt. Then, they grab the safe and attempt to
pick it up.
SEAN
Lets find out what's inside it first.
Sean takes his weapon and shoots the front of the safe, the
bullet richoches of fand hits the wall.
CHRIS
Jesus, fucking hell man!
DAN
Watch out man, shit!
Sean leans over to investigate the safe. It is still locked.
SEAN
I got another idea.
Dave and Chris both grab the huge metal box and lift it up.
They bring it toward an open window and...
DAVE
(to Chris)
On three... One... Two... three!
They toss the safe out the window into the back alley behind
the building and below to the hard ground. A huge CRUNCH!
Sean looks out the window and sees something that makes his
eyes peels wide open.
SEAN
Who wants to go down there and get
it?
Dan looks toward Dave, who grabs hold of his gun and shoots
the bartender in the head.
DAVE
We gotta go.
SEAN
Yeah, no shit ass-hole.
They exit the room and head down the hallway.
EXT. BACK ALLEY - DAY
Right where the safe is, cracked open in the hard concrete
of the ground below.
Dave, Sean, Chris and Dan pocket the money they find from
inside, along with some credit cards of previous kidnapped
persons.
SEAN
(reading from a card)
Who in the hell is Richard Jones?
DAN
Must be from others who were
kidnapped.
SEAN
No shit?
CUT TO:
EXT. SIDEWALK - DAY
Dave, Dan, Sean, Kate and Chris all exit the bar which they
just trashed in order to find their missing candidate.
DAVE
All right, where's the car at?
KATE
Somewhere not here.
DAVE
You're kidding right? Where is it
then?
SEAN
Bout an hour and a half walk from
here...
DAN
... stuck in the mud.
KATE
But hey, since we got you two, we
can get her out in no time.
Dave stops, thinking about how they are getting out of Mexico
now.
DAVE
How're we gonna get there from here
then you bunch of wise asses?
SEAN
Hey wait a minute, it's not our
fucking faul it rained!
DAN
I didn't have to come for your sorry
bitch ass anyway, so show us some
respect shit hole!
Chris stops to wonder for a second about it also.
CHRIS
We have to walk then?
SEAN
(pocketing money)
Maybe...
(to Dan)
Or we could pay for a cab.
Sean reasons with them for a minute, until...
He hears a noise from behind him, the sound of police sirens
from a distance.
EXT. SHADDY BAR - DAY
Police cars line up outside the shaddy bar they just raided.
Police storm out of their cars and neter the building.
DAVE
Lets get in one quick then, or we'll
be taken to jail again.
(as he looks toward
the police)
How much that gonna cost us?
EXT. STREET CORNER - DAY
Dan and Sean come up to a street sign. They see the street
they are on and look in all ways. The others come behind
him and begin to guess where he is going.
STREET LEVEL - SUNSET
Sean and Dave look up to see the sun starting to creat a
shadow, omnious that the sun is indeed setting.
Sean looks toward Dan, who checks him watch to see what time
it is.
Kate looks at him, wondering how bad it'll get for them in
the next hour.
KATE
Where's the way out?
They all spend a second to look in all ways, not remembering
which way they cam in from.
SEAN
I don't know.
From across the street, the signal turns GREEN, Sean crosses
without notice.
Dan turns to see Sean heading across the street and runs to
catch up, then the rest.
KATE
Wait, Sean, where ya going?
As they cross the street...
EXT. CONVENIENT STORE - DAY
Sean heads up to a local convenient store and enters.
INT. CONVENIENT STORE - DAY
The man running the store looks completely omnious to the
English. he watches a SOCCER game on his small TV located
hanging from the ceiling.
Sean interrupts his activities.
SEAN
Excuse me...
(trying to accent
Spanish)
You... have... map of town?
(a beat, a funny look
from the man)
I need help with finding way out of
town.
Sean tries to reword his sentences better. As he does so,
Kate enters the store, looks around, sees Sean, heads over
to him and wonders from there.
KATE
What're you doing?
SEAN
(to Kate)
Trying to find a way outta town.
Dan enters the store, alone. Absent from his brother.
Sean, back to store opperator, struggling with his Spanish.
SEAN
I need a way out of town, por favor.
The man understands his Please, but not much else. The man
points in a direction that leads back outside.
Sean looks, sees nothing, then turns back to the man.
SEAN
What?
The man continues to point towards the door, the exit.
SEAN
(to Kate)
We ain't gettin' help from here.
Sean leaves the store counter and exits the store, back out
onto the street.
EXT. CONVENIENT STORE - DAY
Sean and Kate exit. They look around and see Dan and Chris
waiting. Dan exits shortly after, with nothing but five
minutes wasted.
DAN
Now what?
Sean looks, then Dave looks at the both of the,.
SEAN
Fuck if I even know.
Dave looks around and sees a SMALL TAXI, a Volkswagon Beetle
to be more presice.
DAVE
Hey, we can't all fit in one of thsoe,

Sean and Dan look in the same direction as Kate and Chris
are looking in.
SEAN
Only one way to find out.
They all walks across the street, fixing to pony up some

EXT. ACROSS THE STREET - DAY
Waiting by a Taxi cab hoping to be taken from point D, to

DAVE

Dave has a look at the Cad they're fixing to ride in. Looks
very slow.
DAVE
How far'll this thing take us?
Dave goes up to the man driving the cab, before Sean...
DAVE
Excuse me, you speak English?
The Cab Driver...
CAB DRIVER
(heavily accented)
Very little, but yes.
DAVE
Can we get five people in the back
of this thing?
CAB DRIVER
Well that all depends, but regulations
call for me to take no more than
three passengers, but...
A long silence...
CAB DRIVER
I could take five people. How much
do you have?
Sean gives Dave the momey they all have. Dave hands the Cab
Driver what he has.
DAVE
This.
The MONEY. SEVENTY DOLLARS, way more than needed, but equal
for their trip.
CAB DRIVER
(counts)
This is a lot of money. It's only
five per perosn per mile.
(thinks)
How far do y'all have to go?
A long silence before...
CUT TO:
INT. CAB - DAY
Just as the sun goes down over their horizon, they all try
to fit into the caxi cab.
Sean gets in FIRST, then Kate, then Dan, then Dave. Chris
has to wait because he pitched in almost nothing for this
trip down the road.
Chris gets in, and it is crampted as hell. No way can this
be comfortable.
SEAN
Shit, some one's pokin' my ass.
KATE
That's me.
Chris, hesitant.
CHRIS
Is this enough room?
DAN
No, get in, and close the door,
As Chris wedges himself inside the small cab, the cab driver
gets in and begins to clock the time. Chris struggles to
close the door of the cab.
CHRIS
I can't... I can't get the door
shut.
Sean squeezes himself in more, but can go no further. Kate
also squeezes himself in more, then Dan does also.
EXT. STREET - DAY
Chris finally gets the cab door closed. The cab burns it's
way down the street, very slowly.
INT. CAB - DAY
Kate and Sean and and Dan, the only ones who know where their
SUV is, have to be the guide once they cab driver reaches
the city limits.
CAB DRIVER
Where to?
KATE
Head north, outta town.
CAB DRIVER
Is this in town, where y'all are
going?
DAN
No, you're taking us somewhere north
of town, in the hills, where our car
is parked in the mud.
The cab driver smiles a little bit, then watches fir his way
out of the town.
CUT TO:
EXT. CITY STREETS - DAY
Various CUTS of the city streets as they pass through them
slowly and steadily, making their way out of town.
INT. CAB - DAY
The sun rolling behind a set of clouds makes for an awesome
sunset over Mexico.
CUT TO:
EXT. EDGE OF TOWN - DAY
A set of cars awaits the cab as it makes way down the road.
The cab stops. They are blocked in traffic, on the wrong
road.
INT. CAB - DAY(OMIT)
Sean, looking around, notices that they are not on the right
road.
SEAN
Which road we on?
He looks at the rest of his the crew he is with. He looks
up to the cab driver, curious.
SEAN
Yo, driver sir. Where you taking
us?
The cab driver turns back, not worried.
CAB DRIVER
Hey relax my friends. Do not worry,
we'll be outta town in just a few
heartbeats.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
The cab pulls forward, careful not to bump into the car
infront. The cab swerves to try and get out of the lane he
is in.
The cab makes a sharp pull and flies out of the traffice
zone and follows along with way towards the detour.
EXT. DETOUR - DAY
The cab makes it's way past all the hustle and bustle of
what is going on at the detour.
INT. CAB - DAY
They look back at what they were just in. A long traffic
jam. But ahead of them will be an unpaved road with tons of
bumps and holes.
CUT TO:
EXT. FURTHER DOWN ROAD - DAY
As the cabbie makes his slow route down the unforgiving
highway.
INT. CAB - DAY
As the cabbie maintaining control...
CAB DRIVER
I tell you what not to do: never
come driving down this type of road
ever.
(a short beat)
You easlily get kidnapped on a road
like this.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
As the cabbie continues his conversation, the cab runs over
some put holes in the road.
CAB DRIVER (O.S.)
Don't ever travel down dark, secluded
roads in Mexico for fear of being
killed also...
INT. CAB - DAY
His annoying story goes on and on...
CAB DRIVER
There was this couple once, driving
down lonely road on Mexico, was about
one month ago, they were driving,
and stopped to take some photos.
(a beat)
Well anyway, somene came from behind
them and killed the man, and took
the woman somewhere.
(beat)
They found her two weeks later,
killed, somewhere in La Porter, the
town you just came out of. So watch
your backs, always.
He ends hois story with a reluctant pause, then...
BOOM!
The car starts to wobble all over the road way. The cabbie
pulls the cab to a complete stop before shutting the cab
off.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
The cab, stopped, somewhere in the middle of Mexico, cars
passing by but not stopping. The driver gets out.
INT. CAB - DAY
As the five watch in horror what happened. The driver give
the thumbs up that there is no damage to his ride.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
Sean eagirly watches from his standstill. They are all
looking as he heads around the back and opens the trunk.
DAN
(to everyone)
Should we get out and help him?
Dave looks at Dan very strongly. Dave doesn't want to get
out of the car.
DAVE
Go ahead lil' bro.
SEAN
How you gettin' out? We're in here
like a burrito. Ain't no onw gettin'
out unless we all get out.
Dan remains there, silent, looking straight forward, the
only way he can look.
A BANG on the WINDOW, the cabbie needs something.
CAB DRIVER
Hola? Hello in there?
(a beat, they look)
Car is too heavy, need to get out
while I change the flat tire here in
back.
Dava looks at Dan, who looks at Sean, who looks at Kate.
They begin to nudge around, trying for the door.
Chris opens his door and finally breaths some fresh air. He
looks around, where they are at, what they are doing.
EXT. ROAD, SHOULDER - DAY
Not too much sun is left now as all five kids get out of the
small taxi cab.
The first is Chris, second is Dave, third is Dan, fourth is
Kate and last is Sean, all stretching, and cracking their
backs.
Dave comes around back to see what the man is working on.
DAVE
You need any help?
CAB DRIVER
No, thank you.
Dave turns into the other direction. He gazes into the
desert, more clouds await them at the border.
Dan and Sean sit down on the pavement and wait for the driver
to finish with the spare tire.
The CABBIE as he changes the tire in back.
Sean looks over at Dans arm to see what time it is. Dan
beacons over to let Sean see close up.
DAN
You got it?
SEAN
Yeah, I'm good.
(a beat)
It's getting late.
Kate sits down next to the and watches as the sun heads down
in the other direction. The light illuminates the rest of
the sky above them. It is beautiful.
OVER BY THE CAB, the CABBIE is about done, and finally. It
has only been some twenty minutes.
Sean turns around after hearing the JACK make a noise,
dropping the car.
SEAN
We ready?
DAVE
(in the distance)
Lets go, come on.
Dan and Kate get up and follow Sean to the car once more.
Dan looks around just as his CELL PHONE rings...
Dave stops in horror, knowing right now who it is.
Dan reaches for his cell phone and grabs hold of it. Dave
comes up to him and puts his arm over Dans cell phone arm.
DAVE
Don't tell them I'm with you.
DAN
How do you know who it is?
DAVE
Have they called you yet today?
DAN
I got a call yeah. Told em' to fuck
off.
Dave, shrieks when Dan tells him what he told the cell phone
caller earlier.
DAVE
Don't fuck it up.
Dan brings his arm to his chest and presses the TALK button
on his ringing cell phone.
He presses the phone up against his ear.
DAN
Hello?
A beat.
VOICE
Where is my fucking money?
DAN
What if I told you where to get it?
VOICE
I ain't playin' with ya' you
motherfucker. If I don't have my
money by ten, I'm killin' whoever
lives at 456 Rosewood Drive.
The line goes doead, a sudden panic attak soon dwells in Dan
for the unknown future.
DAVE
Was it who I thought it was?
DAN
(terrified)
You need to call mom and tell her to
go somewhere else tonight.
A bite in the ass for Dave.
DAVE
What?
DAN
(entering cab)
They're gonna kill whoever's at home
tonight at ten.
Dan gets in the cab, but not before thinking... What the
hell did he do?
Dan gets up for a moment and approaches Dave, hostile.
DAN
What the fuck... did you do... to
piss off a bunch of fuckin' drug
dealers who didn't finish high school?
Dave stands there, silent, but tall. He knows what he did,
but knows what Chris did also.
Chris approaches Dan from the side.
CHRIS
Is that all he said?
DAN
(turns to Chris)
Let me guess, you fucked up just as
bad?
Chris, scared, but not shitless.
CHRIS
We did what we had to do.
DAN
Yeah and?
As they continue with their confrontation, Sean and Kate get
in the cab, waiting for Dan, Dave and Chris.
SEAN
Come on, talk about that later. We
have to get back to the SUV before
dark.
Dan steps aside from his ignorant brother and gets into the
cab.
Dave looks at Chris, who both look afraid for the moment.
CHRIS
What're we gonna do, huh?
DAVE
We hit em' where it hurts. The balls.
Dave heads for the cab and swueezes inside. Chris follows,
gets in, and tries to close the door.
INT. CAB - DAY
Sean stares at Dan for a moment, waiting to hear what's up.
SEAN
(to Dan)
Everything fine?
DAN
No!
(a long beat)
Dave's a dumb-ass.
A moment of flutter, then...
KATE
Well we already know that. Tell us
something we don't know.
Another quick beat.
DAN
We just need to get back before ten.
Kate, can you manage that?
KATE
Yeah, I hope so. How far to the
SUV?
Sean looks around, remembers the scenery, knows what's next
in line of land.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
As the sun fades away for the last time, the cab slows down
considerably. The cab stops.
The door on Seans side opens, he gets out. Looks around and
spots the SUV still stuck in the mud just off the road.
SEAN
We're here, everyone out.
In the distance, lightning is visible, a thunderstorm is
heading ocer them in a few minutes.
Sean approaches the SUV with anxoiusness. He simply cannot
wait to get the hell out of Mexico.
KATE
(to Sean)
Everything okay? Nothing's gone?
Sean turns to Kate.
SEAN
We just need to push her out the
mud.
Dan gets out, then Dave and Chris. They look over to Sean,
and the SUV. It is a distance from the road.
DAVE
Where's the damn car?
He looks in the distance off the side of the road. Sees
Sean and heads toward him.
Chris follows.
CHRIS
We stuck out here in the mud?
SEAN
Help us will ya?
Chris looks under his feet and sees all the mud they are in.
He soon looks under his onw feet, under his shoes and feels
how much mud he has walked on.
Kate opens the drivers side door. The cabbie leave the scene
and turns around, heading back in the other direction, back
to San Pedro.
Dave turns to Dan...
DAVE
(yells)
Dan, hey Dan?
A long beat.
DAN
Yeah, what?
DAVE
Thinks for comin' for me. I owe ya
one.
Kate hears Dave and mutters...
KATE
No, you owe me, forty dollors for
gas.
Dave turns around, hears Kate, then turns back to Dan who
applies Kate is right.
DAVE
All right, I owe you forty dolloars
then.
Dan turns to Chris, who stands near Sean.
DAN
What about Chris?
Chris turns, suddenly.
CHRIS
What about me?
DAN
You owe my friend Kate another forty
dollars.
CHRIS
Aw, whatever, man. I'll pay ya as
soon as we get back to Tucson.
He follows Sean around to the other side and begins to help
with the pushing stage.
INT. SUV - NIGHT
Kate turns on the engine and puts the head lights on. They
can see.
EXT. HEAD LIGHTS - NIGHT
As they glisten in the desert night. Sean comes in front of
them and begins to push the SUV backward.
As Sean and Chris push, Dan comes and helps push it also.
Dave becomes the navigator, leading where they push the SUV
to.
DAVE
All right, come on, come on, bring
her outta there. Come on.
From the front of the SUV, Sean leans to the front , and
slides with the thick mud.
SEAN
Shit, I'm slipping, shit!
Sean continues to slip through the mud as he pushes. Dan
and Chris give it their all.
INT. SUV - NIGHT
Kate puts the gas down lightly, making sure not to fling mud
onto Sean, Dan and Chris.
KATE
We gettin' it?
SEAN (O.S.)
Keep going.
EXT. SUV - NIGHT
Dave comes from behind and helps push the SUV backward.
Slowly but steadily they push the SUV out of the mud.
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
The tail lights of the SUV begin to move around on screen,
they have gotten the SUV unstuck and are ready to go.
INT. SUV - NIGHT
Kate, over joyed, uses the force from the all wheel drive
instead of her friends.
KATE
Yes, we made it.
She sticks her head outside and yells...
KATE
Come on, lets go now!
EXT. SUV - NIGHT
The team hauls ass to the SUV and gets in, but not before
wiping the mud off their shoes.
INT. SUV - NIGHT
Kate looks to see Sean not wiping his feet first, then
realizes...
KATE
Hey, wipe your feet off first before
ya get in.
All the doors open, Chris and Dan get in. Dave gets in on
the other side. They shut the doors, ready to head out and
down the road.
DAVE
Nice ride.
KATE
(pretends)
Gee, thanks a dozen.
Kate looks back and checks her view before heading out into
the road behind them.
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
The SUV turns around before making for the road ahead of
them.
The mud on the tires in invisible right now.
INT. SUV - NIGHT
Kate tunrs on her LOW BEAMS for the extra distance ahead of
them.
CHRIS
How far to the border?
KATE
About an hour or so.
A quick beat, then Dave beacons toward Chris, who sits bunched
up between him and Sean.
DAVE
(to Kate)
Kate, we need to get off at the border
to let me and Chris find some generic
drugs, if that's what he wants.
Kate thinks for this a second and...
KATE
No! I am not stopping in Nogales
for more bullshit.
DAVE
Hey, you're involved in this too.
You know that?
Kate does not like where this conversation is heading towards.
KATE
I am not stopping in Nogales for
fuckin', drugs.
Sean tries to say something right quick.
SEAN
What do you two still need?
Dan reaches and tells Sean in his ear, then reacts to it
with contempt.
SEAN
Can't you just sneak that over the
boarder on foot?
Dan sits back in his seat, thinks for a moment...
DAN
I think so, yeah.
SEAN
I'll come with you.
(to Kate)
Park the car for twenty minutes. If
we're not back then, go down the
street somewhere.
Kate looks toward Sean with disgust and anguish towards him,
but she okays it.
KATE
What happens if the boarder patrol
gets y'all?
CHRIS
Lets hope that doesn't happen.
Kate gives off a nervous sigh, a breath of air... then...
CUT TO:
EXT. FURTHER DOWN ROAD - NIGHT

boarder town of Nogales.
INT. SUV - NIGHT
All four get out and try to play it cool as they begin their
frantic journey through Mexico's underclass.
EXT. NOGALES - NIGHT
The four of them hold steadly while Kate departs from the
scene.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
On the streets of Nogales, Dave and Chris begin to look for
any place that's open for buiness.
DAVE
We gotta look for something that's
legit enough to pass off as the real
thing.
Walking...
SEAN
No, no, fuck that, you'll just get
caught tryin' to pass through. We
hike outside of town and toss our
shit over, and hope no body sees it.
Sean and Dan head in the complete opposite direction as Dave
and Chris. They wander in the complete middle of the night.
CUT TO:
INT. PHARMACIA - NIGHT
Dave, looking over a glass counter of certain drugs. He
studies what he thinks he might be able to use as a back up.
DAVE
(to Chris)
How much we need?
CHRIS
About 250.
DAVE
Think this'll work?
Chris comes over and sees what Dave has to show him. He
nods his head.
NEXT, the cashier bags their merchandise and they exit the
store.
CUT TO:
EXT. BORDER CROSSING - NIGHT(OMIT)
The SUV slowly approaches the border crossing into America.
She wases the gas and slows down. She has to sit there till
the line moves on.
Her CELL PHONE rings, startling her. She looks at it, the
screen reads, DAD.
She answers the call softly.
KATE
Hello dad.
(beat)
I'm fine, just watching TV.
(a beat)
Well uh, I'm watching TV at Vanessa's
house, that's why.
She tries to keep her dad from knowing what's up. And as
the conversation continues, so dows the line.
KATE
When ya gonna be home?
(a short beat)
Tonight? What time?
(a short beat)
O, okay, well I see you then, huh?
(beat)
Okay, bye.
She hangs up the cell phone and looks out the back window.
She waits anxiously for the line to go down, and for Dan,
Sean, Chris and Dave to return.
She looks at her cell phone and sees Dans name in her address
book, hits SEND.
CUT TO:
EXT. SIDE STREET - NIGHT
Dave and Chris walk towards the border, they got what they
need.
CHRIS
Where'd they go to?
DAVE
We gotta find them. They went that
away.
He points toward the west end of the town and starts to head
in that direction.
CUT TO:
EXT. FENCE - BORDER OF MEXICO - NIGHT
Dan and Sean walk away from the hustle and bustle. Noises
are heard from all over. Shadows from all around start to
emerge as people fleeing.
SEAN
Where we wanna park it?
DAN
We can wait around here for a while.
As Sean takes notice to their surroundings, the noise flutters
as they look around. A MAN with a knife comes screaming out
at Dan.
A VOICE
MOTHERFUCKER!
It is a crazy, drunk Mexican who is fixing to flee into
America across the border. He stumbles around, alcohol in
one hand and his knife in the other.
SEAN
What the fuck is that?
The man comes out and trips on himself. Dan and Sean quickly
head down the trail some more. Quickly...
EXT. FENCE - FURTHER - NIGHT
Holes in the fence create an illuminating effect as LIGHT
from the other side flickers about. The BORDER PATROL is on
the loose.
DAN
Shit, I think that's border patrol.
SEAN
Fuck, what do we do?
DAN
We stay here, they're only looking
for the ones crossing.
Dans cell phone rings, startling him a little bit. He jumps
and looks around, then pulls his phone from his pocket.
DAN
Hello?
INTERCUT: between Dan and Kate...
INT. SUV - NIGHT
Kate, talking in her cell phone.
KATE
Dan?
DAN
Kate, you fuckin' scared the shit
outta me. Where are you?
KATE
I gotta problem, my dad's home in
two hours.
DAN
So.
KATE
He thinks I'm at home, so get your
ass across the border, now. And
don't get busted.
END INTERCUT
Dan hangs up his cell phone, puts it back into his pocket.
Turns toward Dave with expression.
As they wait, more noise comes from around the bushes. Dan
is quick on his feet and waits for whoever it is.
DAVE
Hello? Someone out there?
Dan comes out and sees a shadow. He cannot quite make out
who it is.
DAN
Dave, that you?
Dave and Chris emerge, with a bag a shit in their hands, all
hands.
DAVE
What're we doing now boss?
DAN
(to Dave)
This shit's illegal right?
DAVE
Maybe, yes.
DAN
You still good at pitching?
Dave looks toward Dan, who has an alarming expression on his
face.
DAVE
What?
DAN
How the fuck did you think we were
getting this shit over?
CUT TO:
INT. SUV - NIGHT
A KNOCK at the window, she is next in line for the border
inspection to cross.
She rolls down her window and confronts the guard.
KATE
Yeah?
GUARD
Yeah, hey, it's procedure, but every
five vehicles must be thoroughly
checked, you're our next fifth, so
it you could just pull in over there
to where I'm pointin to, and we'll
just do this as soon as possible.
Thanks.
She rolls her window up and heads for where the man was
pointing to...

The SUV slows through a tough crowd of vehicles, mostly just
tourists trying to get back across the border.
INT. SUV - NIGHT
Watching as the crew mwn do their job.
The SUV comes to a complete stop just before some crew men.
One of them grabs a tool with a mirror that reflects what's
on bottom of the vehicle.
They do their inspection top to bottom, checking every crevace
there is to check, but not the inside yet.
The men give her the thumbs up, but this isn't over.
One of the men signals for her to roll the window down so
they can talk to her, give her more instructions.
GUARD
All right, you're clean, but it is
standard that we also do a interior
vehicle check, just in case.
She rolls the window up, opens her door.
EXT. SUV - NIGHT
She gets out of the SUV. The same man checks the front of
her SUV for anything that might catch his eye.
He checks the seat then the center console. Kate watches as
the man checks her SUV left and right.
KATE
(to one of the crew
man)
How long is this going to take? I'm
kinda in a hurry to get home.
GUARD
This'll only take another moment of
time, thank you for your cooperation
ma'am.
She nods off, staring back at her SUV again. The man checking
the front stops, is there a problem?
The crewman returns with nothing, then throws the thumbs up
again.
GUARD
We're good.
(to Kate)
Thank you ma'am. You may go.
Kate hops back inside the SUV and drives off, out of the
border inspection station forever.

Dan, looking around, has a come back.
DAN
(being sarcastic)
I gotta better one, where's your
friends?
As they begin to argue, a NOISE comes from across the street,
it is Kate, in the SUV.
KATE
(yelling)
GUYS, COME ON, I'M OVER HERE!
They all turn and look across the street. The SUV is parked
in the McDonalds parking lot.
INT. SUV - NIGHT
The guys get in and instantly crowd the SUV. Sean gets up
front, having been in the back all day long. Dan, Dave and
Chris get cnter stage back seat.
KATE
You guys get what you needed?
DAVE
Can this thing go off road?
Kate looks back toward Dave, then toward Sean and Dan getting
inside the vehicle.
KATE
Dan, why's he want to go off road?
DAN
We stashed our shit out of the city
to not get caught tring to bring it
in the states.
KATE
Well what would have happened if
y'all would'd gotten caught?
CHRIS
Jail.

The second door opens, Dave and Dan both get out, followed
by Chris, who set out on foot into the nothing.
Kate gets out and tries to follow where they are heading off
to.
KATE
Where are we going?
DAVE
You'll see.
As they continue to walk into and out of the bushes, the
noises heard start to return.
Kate shivers a little bit, then...
KATE
Can you guys hurry up? I don't know
where we are.
SEAN
We're about a hundred feet from the
fence.
SUDDENLY...
The LIGHTS from the SUV come on. Somebody fixing to drive
off with their ride. Sean turns back, sees, and runs for
the vehicle.
SEAN
Shit!
KATE
What the fuck?
SEAN
Dan? Follow me.
Sean heads back toward the lights of the Expedition and makes
a hasty move to reach it in time.
The lights begin to move as if the vehicle were moving, it
is, but where?
Sean barely reaches the vehicle, but, the vehicle stops.
The man trying to drive has never driven anything like this
before.

background, they have to continue to look for their stash.
Chris feels for something and grabs a huge brown bag.
CHRIS
I found one.
Dave looks toward him, then continues searching for the other
one they threw out.
DAVE
Keep searching for the other one.
Chris decides to bail and heads for the SUV instead. He
runs toward the Expedition and sees the trouble Sean and Dan
are in.
EXT. EXPEDITION - NIGHT
The man has a fun on Seans head ans Dan stands back and
watches the man head fot the drivers side door.
BAM!
CHRIS
Get the fuck off of him!
The man goes down, and so does Chris, in the dirt and hurt.
The gun flies from the mans hand and lands in the sand else
where.
Sean falls to the ground and sees it and gurries to grab the
gun. Chris and Dan begin to beat the shit out of the man.
And as they do...
BAM!
Sean shoots the man fighting with Chris and Dan. he falls
to the ground and bleeds all over himself.
There is a moment of silence as they all look at what Sean
just did.
DAN
Fuckin' shit!
Chris turns toward Dave, in the dark distance from where
they are.
CHRIS
Dave, come on, have you found it
yet?
DAVE
No!
CHRIS
Okay, we gotta get the hell out of
here, now! Sean just shot a guy.
Dave doesn;t respond, just continues looking for his dope,
not thinking.
CHRIS
Dave, fuck it, lets go!
DAVE
I can find it!
CHRIS
Sean just fucked up, we need to bail
now!
A silence continues as Chris sees Dave reappear from the
brush. Nothing in hand.
CHRIS
Did you get it?
DAVE
Lets just go! I ain't gonna have
nothin' happen to Sean, he just saved
y'all.
CHRIS
Us. he was takin' off with the car.
Dave heads for the Expedition and gets inside last. He takes
one last look around, then...
DAVE

CHRIS
So, come on!
INT. EXPEDITION - NIGHT
