EXT. A PARATROOPER PLANE AT 30,000 FEET- today
We are face-to-face with RONNIE VAN HELSING (Female, 30s), as she looks out the open hatch at the back of a PARATROOPER PLANE.
Ronnie wears a jumpsuit and helmet with black goggles, but we can see her black bob haircut flying around her neck. On her shoulder is the lightning-bolt emblem of the POLIDORIUM.
She raises a pair of binoculars and peers past us.
INT. BINOCULAR SITES
In the air, in the distance, a faint shape like a ZEPPELIN glitters.
We hear her speak over a microphone against her chin.
I see it! We need to go around.
The C-17 banks and turns as Ronnie moves--
INT. THE PLANE
Ronnie moves fast, shouting over the roar of the engines and wind.
In front of her are ABE, (white male, 50s), pulling his helmet on over his short gray-black hair, and MARCUS (Asian Male, 30s), and BADI, (Brazilian, 20-something).
We got it. It's there.
You sure? I don't want to jump onto nothing.
What, you don't trust her?
She calls to the captain, talking on her headset.
Captain, go around and ascend another ten thousand feet and -- on my mark I want you to fire your missiles.
I don't see it.
She runs to the cockpit, leans over the pilot's seat. The pilot is young, brown-headed.
Where is it?
Look through these. They're... special.
He takes the binoculars and looks.
Ascend so we'll be over it. On my mark, hit it.
Why don't I just blow it out of the sky?
Won't work-- we gotta inject it. But don't worry--
She's running back.
-- that's our job. Marcus!
You load these with silver-jackets?
What do you think?
I don't want to get out there and find out I got lead--
Jesus, Ron, you think you're the only competent person on earth?
They each throw rifles over their shoulders and strap them down.
We're gonna pass overhead. Now remember, this thing will be guarded and it will be cold. What doesn't eat us will freeze our asses, so move fast, make the injection, plant your devices and get the heck off.
Just to say this again, Ron, there ain't a thing visible in the air.
You go first.
We're comin' up over it.
EXT. THE PLANE
Three bodies hurtle themselves one at a time from the back of the C-17 into the air--
As the C-17 flies away from them, THREE SMALL MISSILES drop from the wings, twisting down below.
With three sharp CRACKS the missiles STRIKE something hard.
Ronnie and Marcus talk through their headsets as the four hurtle down.
The quarry always shields his best toys.
The air shimmers and static explodes and now we SEE IT, a VAST, RED, OBLONG SAC the size of a ZEPPELIN.
This reservoir, it must hold tons-
THOUSANDS of tons of blood.
And this is just one we've had the luck to find.
All along the RESERVOIR are huge, bulky, red BALLOONS, holding the main part up by heavy leather-like cords.
Here we go.
They LAND on the reservoir and close up we see it's covered with ice and red sludge.
Ronnie cuts her chute loose and starts to run, then slips on the ice--
Abe catches her by the arm as he comes up beside her.
Thanks, I got it.
I'm talking about them.
Up ahead, we see FOUR NEAR-FROZEN HUMAN FORMS SIT UP, turning frozen heads towards them.
Guardian vampires. These guys are stupid even when they're not frozen.
The GUARDIANS are slow-moving vampires, frost-bitten, eyes glowing.
Marcus, you and Badi go plant charges at the stern, we'll take these.
This thing has a stern?
Marcus runs, gliding effortlessly on the ice until he reaches the back of the reservoir. He takes a BOMB out of his belt, plants it and punches some numbers.
He looks up to see another guardian grinding towards him.
Back at the center, Ronnie and Abe draw their rifles.
You sure these are vampires? They're awful slow.
Three of the guardians have gotten close--
We follow a SILVER-JACKETED bullet as it spins in the air-- The three guardians EXPLODE as the bullets hit home, dust raining in the air.
Ronnie runs past the fourth, which reaches out numbly as she pumps more rounds. It explodes behind her as she runs on, planting a bomb on the icy floor.
Abe takes out a DEVICE shaped like a CLEAR COFFEE CAN FILLED WITH YELLOW LIQUID, with a long spike on the end. He raises it over his head and SLAMS it into the surface.
Abe taps a couple of buttons and we see the fluid begin to drop.
He plants another bomb and comes to crouch beside Ronnie.
The blood thinner should set in and start working in -- I figure about a 30 seconds.
Ronnie is admiring the reservoir zeppelin, taking a moment to spin, slowly, taking in the length and breadth of the floating reservoir, the clouds behind them.
Would you get a load of this thing? He needs blood, who knew he'd keep so much of it hidden up here. You think those guys fall off sometimes, maybe fall on plane wings and scare people?
You think frozen vampires are the source of the gremlin myth?
Back at the stern, Marcus and Badi are now dealing with five more, slowly moving towards him.
He KICKS one's head off as he flips, sending a silver dagger into another.
Badi moves like a member of Cirque du Soleil-- she flips, and glides, and flips, using a pair of silver knives to slice through vampires.
Marcus' FOOT lands in a SEAM in the reservoir and rips through, and now a HAND reaches up from below.
Yahhh! They're inside of it too.
Marcus and Badi run back to Ronnie.
Yech. I mean yahhhh.
We set em all?
All the bombs are set.
That's our cue.
Marcus turns his back to her and she tears away the back of his coat to reveal a second pack. Abe pulls open hers, and she gets Abe's. Ronnie then rips open Badi's coat. Now all have exposed second packs-- PARACHUTE PACKS.
Ronnie holds up a remote, flips a switch.
They RUN towards the edge and LEAP into the air, hurtling down.
PARACHUTES OPEN as they pass us, and overhead the red dirigible ignites, one explosion after another.
Ronnie looks up as it goes. As they soar towards the ground, blood and ash rain around them.
RONNIE (radio) (cont'd)
Tell you one thing. The Quarry is gonna be pissed.
