1 INT.BOY'S ROOM-DAY 1
A boy, PETER ,plays his guitar over Neil Young's "Rock'n'Roll
Will Never Die". Peter is wearing typical teenage clothes,
and sporting a pencil behind his left ear. His room is
decorated with posters, and magazine clippings.
START OPENING CREDITS
Throughout the credits we begin to establish Peter's room. We
see the amp, his other guitars, his picks, etc. The song ends
after the last credit.
END CREDITS
Peter sets down his guitar, the fuzz of the amp still
present. HE leans down and turns off his amp. Peter puts his
guitar back on the stand, and sits on the edge of his bed. HE
sits for quite some time, staring at the wall, mesmerized.
Peter finally leans down, looking under his bed for
something. HE pulls out a journal and opens up to a blank
page. HE pulls the pencil from behind his left ear, and
touches it to the page. Peter can't think of anything, his
pencil just sitting on the page. Peter finally writes
something. Just a simple question:
What does it mean?
Peter looks at his paper a little longer, then closes it and
puts it back under the bed. HE lays back on his bed looking
up at the ceiling. Peter just stares at the blank ceiling,
looking at the fan whirl by. Watching its blades swift
through the air, relaxation
2 EXT.SUBURBS-MORNING 2
A lonely hill off of the community walkways, called paseos,
lies in the morning sun. We begin to hear Peter's voice.
PETER (V.O.)
What does it mean? What does it
mean? I don't know, maybe no one
knows. What does it mean?
We begin to see Peter coming over the edge. The hill looks
out over the community, a pretty sight. Peter stands at the
top, enjoying it all, relaxation. Peter's voice begins again.
PETER (V.O. CONT'D)
What is the question I am asking?
What is the meaning of what? What
is everything, the universe, his
life, her life, your life. What is
what you make of it. It can be
anything. What is what, is a
question you need to answer. I'm
just trying to figure it out as
well.
Peter exits the hill, walking away in the morning sun.
3 EXT.BRIDGEPORT COMMUNITY PARK-DAY 3
Peter sits in the grass of a local section of homes,
Bridgeport. The place is very pretty, and Peter sits by the
man-made river that runs throughout the community. HE sits
with his acoustic guitar, just fingering it. HE sits in the
grass for some time , enjoying the weather, and his guitar.
4 INT.CAR-DAY 4
Peter's father, JOHN, is driving his son home. We are looking
out the window opposite of Peter in the back seat. Peter

Peter looking out his window. HIS father keeps quiet.

Hey! Hey, Peter! Where are you
going?!
Peter keeps walking, yet he can hear his father. HE finally
decides to yells back to him.
PETER
Nowhere special!
Peter turns around and begins walking again. His father is
puzzled, he decides to let him go though, and enters through
the garage. Peter keeps on walking down the street.
6 EXT.LOCAL POOL-DAY 6
Peter pulls out a card for the local pool, opening the gate,
and entering. HE sits down at one of the lawn chairs, and
sets the acoustic guitar on the chair, then stands up. HE
walks to the edge of the pool. Peter looks at his reflection
in the water, then backs away. HE inches closer, looking at
the water. Peter's voice begins.
PETER (V.O.)
I need to find the meaning. It is
somewhere.
HE steps back again, then slowly returns for a final glimpse.
Before doing so HE takes off his shoes, then finally jumps in
the pool, creating a large splash.
PETER (V.O. CONT'D)
It wasn't the pool water that did
it.
Peter eventually returns to the surface, and checks on his
guitar, peering over the solid concrete edge of the pool. HE
submerges once again, and begins to swim.
PETER (V.O. CONT'D)
But, it sure was refreshing either
way.
