ULTIMUS

(An original screenplay)

NOTE: There are no slugs in this SP. So if you're a traditionalist, go 
the hell away.

FADE IN:

Inside an art store. It's night time. Two people are left inside, 
packing things up, obviously ready to go home. JACK FALCON, 32 stands 
in front of a cash register clutching a bundle of paintbrushes. His 
friend JARED SLOCOMBE, 28 taps him on the shoulder.

JARED
Good night. 

JACK
Good night.

Jared exits the store and then makes signals for a cab. The cab pulls 
up at the sidewalk. And just before he enters, Jared waves at Jack.
Jack is seated near the counter, reading a super-hero comic-book.

JACK
(V.O.)
I'm Jack Falcon. I'm 32. I've been working in this art store for 8 
years now. It's a pretty decent job. I live a pretty decent life. In 
fact I have a girlfriend.

Jack continues to read the comicbook.

JACK
(V.O.)
My current girlfriend is Jolie. I said current. Well I had one. Her 
name was Heather.

INSERT FLASHBACK:

Daytime. A bustling sidewalk. And Jack's previous girlfriend, HEATHER 
stands helplessly in front of a deranged gunman, who by his looks is in 
a hurry. The gunman whips out his pistol and shoots Heather with it. 
The gunman is wearing a skimask. And he is carrying a satchel. He 
starts shooting other people who get in his way.

END FLASHBACK.

JACK
(V.O)
Have you ever wished, that for just one day, you become a superhero. 
You can stop time, pass through walls, kill all the bad guys. Well, 
I've always been a comicbook geek since childhood, but ever since THAT 
happened...

A pause.

JACK
(V.O.)
Becoming a superhero is all I ever wanted. Well I am a superhero. Yes I 
am. But not yet... and before I tell you anything else. My advice for 
all of you is to be careful.

Jack finally gets up. He sets the comicbook down on the counter.

JACK
(V.O.)
To be careful of what you all wish for.

CUT TO:

Still night time. Jack is seated on his couch, comfortably. He grabs 
hold of the telephone and punches up the keys to dial a number. The 
other end of the line starts ringing.

JOLIE
Hello.

JACK
Hi, baby.

JOLIE
What's up?

JACK
No, you tell me, what's up?

JOLIE
(laughs)
Ahhh, the hell with this.

Jack smiles.

JACK
Let's go to the pizza place tomorrow.

JOLIE
Is that what you called for?

JACK
Erm...yeah ? Listen---

JOLIE
All right, what time, tomorrow.

Jack continues to talk over the phone.

JACK
(V.O.)
I forgot. If I'm 32... Jolie's 21. I know, I know... anyways, she's an 
IT student. Why did I hook up with someone eleven years younger than 
me? I can't figure that out myself...

CUT TO:

It's day time. About 10 A.M. Jack is walking through a sidewalk, just 
in front of a bank. He's holding a package. A short-opaque brown 
envelope containing something. Probably a ream of typewriting paper. 
Who the fuck cares. Jack is dressed in gray pants and a black sweater.

AT THE OTHER SIDE OF A BANK, a tall hulking man stands. His name is 
ROBERT BIGGS. He is 61, bearded and he is wearing a long overcoat. In 
fact he wears all black. Biggs is in baggy overalls, thick boots --- or 
shoes? Thick pants. He digs into his pockets and then digs out... well, 
thick gauntlets. Who is this guy, anyway? Biggs is also holding a black 
briefcase. He sets the briefcase on the ground.

He's standing on a parking lot. It's an open parking lot, no gates 
surround it, no security guards protect it. It is open and exposed to 
the street. A YOUNG MAN riding a motorcycle parks up near the wall of 
the bank. The young man is clean shaven and is wearing a black 
motorcycle helmet.

Biggs approaches him and punches him in the stomach. The young man 
falls on his back and Biggs takes out his helmet. And wears it. JUST ON 
THE SIDEWALK, Jack can see all this happening. He stops walking. He 
gets compelled to stay. He watches Biggs sentiently. 

Biggs steps close to the concrete wall, ignoring the unconscious body 
of the young motorbiker. Biggs PUNCHES THE WALL REAL HARD and he 
manages to dig deep into it, leaving a small crater about 6 inches in 
diameter. Biggs punches the wall again, making the damage even worse.
Biggs pulls out two grenades from his pockets, pulls their pins and 
plants them into the crater. He backs away. He picks up the briefcase.

Meanwhile, Jack just watches the crazed man in black in disbelief. He 
continues to watch him with fascination.

BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The wall explodes. Now the bank is left with a  big opening. Well, big 
enough for Biggs to step in. Biggs steps in anyways, the security 
guards after clearly being momentarily stunned charge towards him. 
Biggs shoots them both with an UZI through full-auto mode. Everyone 
inside the bank panics. Biggs hurls his briefcase ruthlessly at a 
Teller. It smashes the Teller's face, making him fall back and 
disappear behind the counter.

Biggs pulls out one more grenade and rolls it towards the lobby.

CUT TO:

Jack, still on the sidewalk, watching the chaos. BOOM!!! The lobby of 
the bank explodes. The explosion rocks the place. Jack falls on his 
back. But still, he doesn't move away. He gets back up and gets his 
attention back to the bank. He watches as if he's a reporter anxious to 
get his story on the papers.

TIME CUT:

A few minutes have passed. Police arrive. Military choppers arrive! 
What the fuck is going on here?? The military choppers land on the 
site. Two soldiers holding MP5s storm the building.

Jack still continues to watch, from the sidewalk. He steps out of the 
sidewalk, and into the street getting an even closer look. The bodies 
of the two soldiers fly out of the building and land hard on two police 
cars!!!

Biggs, still dressed in black and looking silly with the helmet steps 
out of the bank. He's now holding one Heckler and Koch rifle, and he 
fires it full-auto mode towards the cops. 3 cops take the bullets. All 
of them get killed.

Then something happens. Something Jack doesn't expect to happen. Jack 
slowly looks at his upper body. He just stares in disbelief. He's taken 
some bullets himself!!! Jack collapses on the sidewalk.

Two men step out of one of the military choppers and walk towards 
Jack's body. 

Is Jack dead?

One of them is just a private. The other man is SGT. GELLAR. Gellar is 
51, a man who has a both gutsy and intelligent look. The private and 
Gellar step closer towards Jack's body.

PRIVATE
Sarge, I think this---

GELLAR
I know, Private.

PRIVATE
Should we, erm...

Gellar takes a deep breath.

CUT TO:

Biggs. He is still fighting the cops. He falls forward and then punches 
through the cement ground. He makes a small crater, just like the one 
he made in the bank wall. And then he plants a grenade after he pulls 
it's pin.

A cop approaches him and points an AR-15 at his face.

COP
Don't move!

Biggs disarms the oafy cop of the AR-15 and punches him in the neck. 
The cop flies backward. Whoa, this motherfucker is superstrong! Biggs 
picks up the grenade and throws it in the direction the cop flew into.
Biggs puts his right foot on the small hole he made. He STOMPS ON IT 
REAL HARD, then suddenly there's a LARGE OPENING on the ground! The 
sewers below can clearly be seen from it.

The opening is large enough for Biggs's body to pass through. Biggs 
jumps in anyway, lands on the sewer.

CUT TO:

Private and Gellar standing in front of Jack's body.

GELLAR
Take him.

FADE OUT.

Inside a secret lab, Jack lies on a gurney, his body is strapped well 
into it, three computers run, and Gellar just sits in front of the 
gurney. DOCTOR KESSAL sits in front of a blaring monitor and starts 
punching some keys. Wires protrude out of Jack's head and are attached 
to a CPU! What the fuck have these guys done?

The lab is very wide and spacious, yet it isn't as occupied as most 
laboratories are, not to mention this lab is run under military 
jurisdiction. If not, just Gellar's jurisdiction.

GELLAR
How long will the procedure take?

KESSAL
Don't worry. Not long.

Gellar turns back to Jack's body. Jack is badly injured. Blood is all 
over his sweater.

ON A COMPUTER MONITOR are blueprint's of what appears to be inside 
Jack's brain. Kessal continues to punch keys.

A WHITE FLASH

and Jack is now... ALIVE. He stands in front of Gellar, who gets up 
from his seat, he looks at the gurney, where his body lies and is 
attached to complex devices. Jack is still dressed in the gray pants 
and sweater. Except that there isn't any blood in his sweater. And 
there are no injuries. Jack's eyes widen, in shock. Except that he 
really doesn't turn pale. Instead his face becomes momentarily static.
Just like a static signal on TV.

JACK
What the fuck happened? Who are you??

GELLAR
Come down Mr. Falcon. You are dead. 

KESSAL
No. But at least your body is on an unconscious state. You are a 
holographic being. We revived you, we attached a diskette to your head 
surgically, and we have another diskette attached to our CPUs. You are 
what we call online. Since you are now in your holographic state.

JACK
What the fuck have you done to me??

GELLAR
You mean what the fuck did a deranged bandit do to you...You were shot 
Mr. Falcon.

JACK
How do you know my name?

Gellar pulls out something from his pocket. A wallet. He hands it to 
holographic Jack. Who then takes it in his own hands. He's able to 
touch something.

GELLAR
Yes, your wallet.

JACK
I can hold this thing?

KESSAL
You see Mr. Falcon, you are not entirely computer generated. Your life 
is suspended. You are both spirit and machine.

Jack passes the wallet to his left hand, and he pushes his finger right 
through it! Much like a ghost would penetrate any body part through 
something.

JACK
How the fuck did I do that?

KESSAL
Unexplainable physics, Mr. Falcon.

JACK
(eyes wide open, even more in shock this time)
The name's Jack.

KESSAL
Yes. Unexplainable. And although this would be a milestone in science 
that could make me a millionare, it is unexplainable and this discovery 
can not be revealed. Even if I wanted to.

Gellar gets his hands on one of those black plush seats on wheels and 
pushes it towards Jack.

GELLAR
Have a seat, Jack.

Jack does so. He bounces on and off for awhile, fascinated at how he 
can touch and move objects, even if he's just a holo man.

KESSAL
You are the first template of Project Ultimus. It is a project that 
I've been trying to develop for years. I've been working closely with 
the military... 

Kessal nods slowly.

KESSAL
After all, this is a secret military venue, and I've been under 
Sergeant Gellar's authority here.

JACK 
Project Ultimus?

KESSAL
Yes, that's what I call it.

JACK
So I can make my body solid if I want to, and I can make it...

KESSAL 
Yes, you can move objects... if you prefer to be on a ghost-like state, 
yes you can pass through walls.

GELLAR
You can do what every human being can. And what every human being can 
not.

JACK
Can I levitate? Put up a fight... and, and and---

KESSAL
Yes you can.

Jack feels sort of a rush. He's not sure if he should be excited or to 
be upset that he's now a science experiment.

JACK
How many people have you done this to?

KESSAL
Two or three. But those other projects have failed out of... certain 
errors.

JACK
So if you fuck up this time around, I'll die?

KESSAL
No. I won't fuck anything up, this time around.

JACK
Sergeant, how'd you know that I was gonna be---

GELLAR
No.

JACK
Sir---

GELLAR
We were there for Robert Biggs, a notorious terrorist... or should we 
say a big time bank robber. The military is everywhere, Jack, we just 
sit and observe, we wait for him to strike.

JACK
Robert Biggs?

GELLAR
Yes, a hitech bank robber. We join the police. But usually we're there 
to disperse the media. No one has made a report about this ever since. 

JACK
Disperse---

GELLAR
Yes, we even threaten reporters carrying a notepad and a pencil. We 
don't want a panic, Jack.

JACK
How was he able to punch through walls?

GELLAR
I don't know. It's a sophisticated ... device that he wears underneath 
his clothing that allows him to punch through walls...

Gellar frowns.

GELLAR
It's some sort of body armor, he can also use it to shield metal, punch 
steal. It's all sewn right under the fabric he wears. And it could only 
have been invented by somebody as sophisticated as---

KESSAL
Myself.

GELLAR
That's right.

JACK
So, just because he's so sophisticated, it makes it difficult even for 
you soldiers to bring him down.

GELLAR
Yes.

Kessal turns away from the computer and gets up.

He eyes the wooden long table just a few feet away from where Jack is 
seated.

KESSAL
You see that long table over there, Jack?

JACK
Yes.

Jack gets up and walks towards it.

KESSAL
Try to PENETRATE it.

Jack walks closer to the table, until he finally is walking through it! 
His body is walking through the middle of the table.

KESSAL
Now try to make your body solid.

Jack does so. He GROANS.

JACK
ARRRRRGH!!!!!!!!

The table gets split in two, the other half flies close to Gellar 
almost hurting him. The other half is in front of Jack. Jack steps on 
it and fucks it up some more. He steps on it.

KESSAL
So you've easily adjusted to your programming.

JACK
(turns to Kessal)
What?

KESSAL
You can make your body solid or air at your command.

JACK
What?

KESSAL
You are versatile.

JACK
Why am I still wearing the sweater and the... pants.

KESSAL
Well, I programmed it. Unless of course you want to ... change.

JACK
No.

KESSAL
Mr. Falcon you can become a ghost. You can pass through walls, or you 
can become organic at will, but you can not do any bodily functions 
that every human being needs to do...

Jack frowns.

KESSAL
Eat, sleep, drink. Mainly because you don't have to.

Jack steps closer to the gurney where his real body lies.

JACK
Can you... bring me back?

KESSAL
I'm afraid not. If I... disconnect you. As what I term it, you will 
die. I'm afraid that I can not find a way to revive you and ...

JACK
Are you sure?

KESSAL
For the time being. Yes.

FADE OUT.

Inside the lab, later on. Jack is seated on the floor. Gellar, quite 
bleary sits in the computer chair right in front of the monitors. Only 
this time, the monitors are off.

JACK
There's no way I can be brought back.

GELLAR
No way.

Beat. Jack just stares. Stares at his body lying on the gurney in 
disbelief.

JACK
There's a problem...

GELLAR
Yes?

JACK
Never mind.

GELLAR
What is it?

JACK
My girlfriend.

Gellar sighs.

GELLAR
I'm sorry, Jack.

JACK
This is strange, I was supposed to go out with her today...

GELLAR
So, what gives?

JACK
Is there a way to tell her about... this?

GELLAR
Well, it's not that your... permanently dead. You can talk to her.

JACK
No, I meant, how am I gonna explain all this to her?

GELLAR
That's your calling Jack. I can't help you out in that department.

CUT TO:

Night time. Jolie Ferris's apartment. Inside the living room. JOLIE is 
very pretty. She sits on a couch, together with MENA STUART, her 
friend. Obviously also Jack's friend. Someone else is inside the room, 
it's Jared. He walks back and forth, restless.

JOLIE
Something happened to him.

Jared finally sits, on a wooden chair, facing both Mena and Jolie.

JOLIE
Jared, do you know where he was this morning?

JARED
Um, he was... out of the store. He was gonna deliver something, to 
somebody... I don't know...

MENA
You're right. Something did happen to him.

JOLIE
You think he could have been hurt in that shooting?

MENA
Yeah---

JARED
Holy shit! That's it! He might have been taken to some --- some 
hospitat. We can't know for sure...

Jolie sighs.

JOLIE
There's no doubt now. He was there when the shooting happened. And then 
he got hurt.

JARED
Yeah, he did.

JOLIE
Shouldn't we start calling some hospitals, you know---

MENA
That's up to you, Jolie.

JOLIE
But how are we supposed to know what hospitals---

JARED
That's what you're supposed to do. I'm only here if you need some help 
or...

CUT TO:

Inside the secret lab. Jack is still seated on the floor. Gellar near 
the computers. Jack is restless. Not that he needs to sleep, but 
clearly, he is disturbed.

GELLAR 
Would you rather be disconnected?

JACK
What?

GELLAR
Because there's no other way, Jack.

Jack gets up.

JACK
There has to be some other way.

GELLAR
You call her. You talk to her. Tell her the truth.

JACK
I don't know if I would rather do that, or if I'd prefer to be dead. 
Disconnected.

GELLAR
I'm sorry Jack...

Jack gets up. He kicks one concrete post, cutting into it, breaking it. 
The concrete falls to the ground, dust flies all over the area he just 
damaged.

JACK
Why did this have to happen?

GELLAR
Shouldn't you be thinking about what you CAN do as a holographic man?

JACK
What?

Jack walks closer to Gellar.

GELLAR
You can do things people can't do, Jack. Look on the bright side.

JACK
I don't get---

GELLAR
You can fight the cops. You can fight crime. You can be a holo crime 
fighter!

JACK
No, I don't want that.

GELLAR
Sure you do.

JACK
What?

GELLAR
You've probably dreamed about it all your life.

JACK
What did you say?

Gellar shakes his head.

GELLAR
Nothing, I just had to assume.

JACK 
Oh...

GELLAR
But you can... get back at the terrorist who took your life from you. 
Considering the things you are now capable of doing, Jack.

JACK
Biggs.

GELLAR
Yes. You can get him for us.

JACK
Wait a minute... you motherfuckers shot me, you did this to me. You had 
a number of fucked up experiments, and everytime there's a crime scene, 
you just shoot someone and-----

GELLAR
No. That would be immoral. Biggs shot you. If it wasn't us. It could 
have been one of the cops. But no, it was Biggs who shot you.

JACK
(shrugs)
I see.

GELLAR
Yes.

JACK
But there's something that doesn't make sense to me.

GELLAR
What, Jack?

JACK
It's Biggs.

GELLAR
What about him?

JACK
If he can do all those things, why does he only rob banks?

GELLAR
I've been trying to figure that out myself. He must be... a Manchurian  
candidate.

Gellar laughs.

GELLAR
He's probably brainwashed. I don't know... look---

JACK
What?

GELLAR
The answer to your question?

Gellar starts nodding his head.

GELLAR
He's crazy.

CUT TO:

A city park. Day time. A bus is parked up near the curb of the rotunda 
of the park.

CUT TO:

Inside the bus. A Korean guy holds a young woman at bay. He holds a 
revolver. He sticks the revolver's barrel close to her neck. 

CUT TO:

Outside an entire precinct of SWAT guys hold tear gas launchers, and 
stun grenade launchers and aim it directly at the deranged Korean 
inside the bus. A lot of cops point their service pistols at the armed 
assailant.

CUT TO:

Inside the bus.

KOREAN
I want the president!

CUT TO:
 
Outside. One of the cops.

COP
Who is this motherfucker?

COP 2
He's asking for the president.

COP
Jesus.

CUT TO:

Just a few meters away from the chaos, Jack watches.

CUT TO:

Inside the bus. The man picks up a can of paint. He opens the lid of 
the can. He lets go of the young woman AND SHOOTS HER IN THE HEAD! 
EVERYBODY INSIDE THE BUS SCREAMS. HE SPILLS THE PAINT ON THE WINDOW 
THAT LOOKS AT ALL THE COPS HOLDING HIM AT GUNPOINT. THE KOREAN WALKS 
TOWARDS THE BUS DOOR, SHUTS IT, LOCKS IT. HE POINTS HIS REVOLVER TO THE 
DRIVER. HE SHOOTS HIM TOO!

CUT TO:

A COP, OUTSIDE. HE HEARS THE GUNFIRE.

COP
Jesus.

CUT TO:

Inside the bus. THE KOREAN WETS THE GLASS DOOR WITH THE PAINT TOO. NOW 
ALL THE COPS CAN'T SEE HIM. THE PASSENGERS AT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BUS 
ARE ALL BATHED IN PAINT. EVERYONE SCREAMS ENDLESSLY IN PANIC.

CUT TO:

Jack. Still watching from a distance. He can't take this anymore. He 
watches the bus closely. Observes. He sees all the cops. Jack's face 
turns STATIC. Nice trick. Now, since his face is all static, no one can 
recognize him. Jack dashes towards the bus and then PENETRATES RIGHT 
THROUGH THE BUS'S WALL, THE SIDE WHERE ALL THE WINDOWS ARE OBSCURED BY 
BLACK PAINT!

CUT TO:

Inside the bus. The Korean guy couldn't believe what he just saw. 
Someone passed right through the solid walls of the bus! Right through 
the solid windows! Jack grabs hold of the Korean's wrist, holding the 
revolver. He chops his elbows, disarming him of the weapon. Jack gribs 
the Korean right in the chest, he holds him, up high --- and then hurls 
his body towards the painted glass windows ---

CUT TO:

Outside. The Korean's body FLIES TOWARDS THE COPS, THEN PAST THEM, 
FINALLY LANDING WITH HIS HEAD SMASHING AGAINST A STEEL POST WITH A 
PING!

CUT TO:

One of the cops. Just stares in shock.

COP
Who the fuck was that?

All the cops now have a new target.

COPS AND SWAT GUYS
(in unison)
Freeze! You're under arrest!

Jack start to rise OUT OF THE BUS. He's now levitating and penetrating 
the roof of the bus. He rises slowly, and finally lands on his feet, 
now solid. Now on top of the bus. His face still static. His identity 
kept anonymous.

Jack jumps off the bus's roof. The cops and swat guys start shooting 
him. Jack makes his body solid, and the bullets bounce right off his 
body!

CUT TO:

One of the cops.

COP
Holy shit!

Jack walks slowly, calmy towards the aggravated police officers. They 
continue shooting him, but his body continues to merely catch the 
bullets. The bullets just bounce off his body.

Then Jack just stops. 

Someone familiar is in front of him. It's Biggs! Now he's the one 
watching from a distance. He's in the same black overalls. The baggy 
pants, the overcoat, the boots.

Jack rises, and flies towards Biggs, but Biggs catches his body. Biggs 
makes a big leap and then CRASHES on the concrete ground, making a BIG 
OPENING...

Jack and Biggs fall

CUT TO:

down below. In the sewers. Jack punches Biggs in the face. But Biggs 
takes those punches like a man. A man of steel. Jack's attacks don't 
affect the sinister Biggs.

CUT TO:

The cops and swat guys walk towards the opening in the street, their 
attention now away from the bus.

CUT TO:

One of the cops. He attends to the dead body of the Korean guy.

CUT TO:

The sewers. Now Biggs and Jack are away from that opening that leads to 
above. Now, not even the cops can reach them. Jack's face this time is 
back to normal. He's not doing that static trick anymore.

Jack and Biggs continue to fight. At one point, Jack's arms PASS RIGHT 
THROUGH BIGGS'S CHEST! Biggs backs up, and wards off Jack's attack. He 
grabs hold of Jack's wrist and then manages to hurl his body to a far 
brick wall.

The bricks get smashed and fall right off the wall.

Biggs pulls out a Glock. He shoots at Jack, but the bullets pass right 
through Jack's body anyway. Jack charges forward, and kicks the handgun 
away from Biggs's hand.

BIGGS
Arrrgh! Fuck!

Biggs has now knows that he lost. He runs far away from where Jack 
stands, he kicks, and punches a brick wall. Amazingly, Biggs manages to 
tear the wall apart, and then he moves along.

Jack tries to follow him. But he disappears into the darkness...

Instead, a grenade lands right in front of Jack.

CUT TO:

The cops, almost all of them having attention focused on the big hole 
on the ground, all of them are looking down, hoping to find any of the 
two in the sewers.

PHWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!!!!!!!!!! The cement floor that they 
stand on explodes! Their bodies fly in all directions. It was Biggs's 
grenade.

But something else flies as well. It's not a body flying out of 
control. It's Jack! He's flying on his own as the flame rises from 
above the ground.

Then Jack lands slowly, gracefully a couple of meters away from the 
explosion. A couple of meters away from the crime scene. Jack takes a 
deep breath.

CUT TO:

The secret lab once again. Could be either day or night. Jack stands in 
front of Gellar, who is seated as always in front of the computer 
monitors. The monitors are off though. Only the medical paraphernalia 
attached to Jack's real body is on.

JACK
The son of a bitch is mean. And I mean---

GELLAR
Yes, Jack, that's why not even the cops could stop him.

JACK
I've always been thinking about...

Jack frowns.

GELLAR
About, what Jack?

JACK
About Jolie.

GELLAR
Like we've always discussed Jack. It's your calling. I can't decide for 
you in that department. You're the only one who can help yourself.

CUT TO:

Jack's own home. His living room. Jack sits on a couch. He picks up the 
receiver to his telephone. He dials up a number.

JACK
Yeahello.

BENEDICT FERRIS
Ferris residence.

JACK
Sir, this is Jack. I'd like...

BENEDICT
Oh yeah, Jack, you wanna um talk with---

JACK
No, no...

BENEDICT
But I guess you have to. I insist.

JACK
I can't.

BENEDICT
Something's wrong Jack? Right?

JACK
Yeah, you can say that.

JACK

BENEDICT

JACK

BENEDICT
There's been no word about you ever sicne that horrible shoot out at 
the bank.

JACK
No. It's got...

Jack winces. He feels very uncomfortable lying.

JACK
...nothing to do with um...

BENEDICT
So what seems to be the problem.

JACK
Listen Mr. Ferris... um, I might see her soon. It's just that.

A long pause. Jack holds up his arms. He makes them "static", just 
reminding himself that he's a hologram. Well, part spirit and part 
hologram. The coolest thing is, he can also make his body solid if he 
wants to...

JACK
It's just that I'm going through something now. And I'm not ready to 
tell her...

BENEDICT
I see, son...

JACK
I hope you understand, sir.

BENEDICT
Yes. I'll try to keep mum on this ... just so I can help you out. I've 
met you, Jack. You are a good man. And I just want you to take your 
time... regarding the things that trouble you. May they have something 
to do with your relationship with Jolie or not... I'm worried. But I 
care...

JACK
Thank you, erm---

BENEDICT
So I guess you should just call me. When you get the chance. When you 
feel like spilling the beans to ... her and start revealing what ever 
it is you're keeping secret now. What ever it is, I'm sure ... you 
don't want Jolie to know about it. Because she doesn't deserve to know 
about it... are you physically--- injured or something?

JACK
Oh no.

Jack nods his head "no." Almost flippantly.

JACK
Nothing like that, sir. I'm good actually.

BENEDICT
You're good? It's just that SOMETHING that you can't...

A pause. This time Benedict can't get some words out of him.

JACK
Yes. I'll call back. Good night, Mr. Ferris.

BENEDICT
Yeah, likewise, son.

Jack hangs up. He puts the receiver down.

CUT TO:

Ferris residence. Benedict stands in front of Jolie, who has a confused 
look on her face.

BENEDICT
Well, he's alive. But he won't tell me anything!

JOLIE
And I wonder why...

BENEDICT
Se---

JOLIE
Won't he even talk to me?

BENEDICT
No.

JOLIE
Dad, you've heard about what happened to one of his girlfriends before, 
right?

BENEDICT
Yeah. I've heard his story.

CUT TO:


Day time.
Jack is sitting in his living room, watching TV. He changes the 
channel! There's another bank being robbed! IT'S THE BANK THAT BENEDICT 
FERRIS WORKS ON! A SWIRL OF MILITARY CHOPPERS SURROUND THE AREA! CHAOS 
ALL OVER THE PLACE. IT JUST REMINDS JACK OF THE INCIDENT THAT NEARLY 
KILLED HIM.

THE CAMERA ZOOMS CLOSE TO SOMEONE. THE PERPETRATOR, WEARING A BLACK 
HELMET, BLACK OVERALLS --- IT'S BIGGS! BIGGS LIKE BEFORE IS ALSO 
CARRYIG A BRIEFCASE THIS TIME. BIGGS JUMPS REAL HIGH, AND HIS LEGS 
SMASH THROUGH THE CEMENT GROUND THAT HE STANDS ON, POLICE TRY TO SHOOT 
HIM, BUT HE DISAPPEARS TO THE DEPTHS BELOW.

CUT TO:

Gellar on a chopper. He holds a sniper rifle. GELLAR'S SIGHT POV, he 
tries to look everywhere for Biggs. THE POV PANS DOWNWARD, AND THEN HE 
CAN SEE A BIGASSED OPENING ON THE GROUND; BIGGS'S TRADEMARK. Gellar 
throws the rifle behind him, to the other side near the wall of the 
chopper's fuselage. in frustration.

GELLAR
Fuck!

CUT TO:

The sewers. Biggs runs furiously, trying to make his escape.

CUT TO:

The skies. Something's taking a plunge VERTICALLY. It's Jack! Even 
though he's falling superfast, it can easily be made out that his face 
is STATIC again. The coolest way for a vigilante--- no superhero to be 
anonymous. That's what matters.

CUT TO:

The sewers again. Biggs is navigating on foot, frantically through the 
labyrinthian underground maze. Then something is flying fast towards 
him, it's Jack. Jack flies, fast like a ghost in one of those clichéd 
horror movies. Jack lands on his feet, just inches from Biggs. Then 
Jack throws a suckerpunch to Biggs's face. Biggs falls backwards. De ja 
vu. Here they go again. Fighting in the sewers.

Biggs is on his back. Jack walks towards him, Jack bends down, and 
punches his arm through Biggs's neck.

BIGGS
Arrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

But just before Jack can make his arm solid while it's INSIDE Biggs's 
neck, Biggs throws a punch to Jack's well, solid face, Jack flies 
backwards.

CUT TO:

Still the sewers, TWO POLICE OFFICERS jump down the sewer, their feet 
creating a splash of the dirty sewege water on impact. Jack turns 
around, and takes a look at the two uniforms making a futile and 
pathetic attempt to subdue Biggs as always. This is the distraction 
Biggs wanted, TWO GRENADES ROLL TOWARDS THE POLICE OFFICERS.

JACK
Oh shit.

Jack pities them anyway. He flies towards them and grabs them by their 
leather coats. He pulls them upwards and ascends, high, high up as the 
two grenades blow up the sewer to oblivion. Jack lands slowly, as 
always, gracefully like David Copperfield would after he finishes his 
flying routine. Just a few meters away from the ground Jack drops the 
two officer's bodies. They groan as the force of their drop hurts them 
a bit.

Three officers look at Jack in amazement. They've never seen anyone do 
these sort of things before.

MALE OFFICER
Holy shit!!!!!!!!

Then Jack flies high, high up. Then he FALLS, with style, head first 
towards the ground... he continues to fall, finally passing through the 
ground then back to the ---

CUT TO:

Sewer. It's pretty much the same area where he just encountered Biggs 
again. But this time, no Biggs. Biggs has managed to flee the scene yet 
again. Jack makes his face UN-static and returns it to normal. 

JACK
FUCK!

CUT TO:

Military men using rattan sticks, knives to threaten all the media 
people. Even Gellar, this time holding an AR-15 threatening a news van.

GELLAR
Get the fuck outta here!

Jack's face is static again. He walks towards a cameraman shooting him 
in awe. The cameraman remains astounded as Jack walks closer towards 
him. But the cameraman just wishes Jack could show his face.

JACK
Let me show you a trick.

CAMERAMAN
Please do. Wow!

Jack punches the camera lens, and his hand just penetrates it. Like a 
ghost.

CAMERAMAN
Wow!

Then Jack makes his arm SOLID, and then the camera just BLOWS APART to 
bits.  The cameraman lets go of what's left of his camera and just 
frowns, but still in astonishment though.

CAMERAMAN
Motherfucker!

Jack looks left, and he sees Jolie and Benedict together! They were 
both in the bank when the incident happened! Thank God Jolie is all 
right! Jolie is embracing her dad, both of them are caked with dust, 
and look exhausted.

Jack sprints superfast at the speed of light. And disappears from what 
now is a crime scene.

Policeman start putting yellow tape all over the place.

CUT TO:

Biggs's lair. Actually, it's just a warehouse. And he stands in front 
of no one else but... Doctor Kessal!!!

BIGGS
You tell me Kessal. What the fuck was it!!!!!

Kessal starts sweating. He looks like he can shit himself any minute.

KESSAL
Okay, okay! He was a prototype for our Ultimus project. He works 
with... he stays in touch often with a sergeant from the military.

Kessal finds it difficult to catch his breath.

KESSAL
But I didn't tell him everything, I work the project on ---

Biggs steps very close to Kessal.

BIGGS
YOU TELL ME.

KESSAL
What?

BIGGS
Everything.

Biggs drops the briefcase he is holding. He bends down and opens it, he 
hands Kessal a bundle of twenty dollar bills.

BIGGS
Everything.

KESSAL
Yes---

BIGGS
You made my clothes. Clothes make the man. I am the man. Now, tell 
me...

Kessal pockets the bills hastily, almost absently, he is reckless, and 
scared shit. Amazing how Kessal's client can easily intimidate him. 
Kessal is a fucking wimp after all.

CUT TO:

Jack in his living room. At night. He just sits and stares while on the 
couch.

INSERT FLASHBACK:

Heather, his lost love. Blood starts pouring out of Heather's torso. It 
starts pourint out. Jack just replays this image over and over again in 
his head.

END FLASHBACK.

Jack picks up the phone. He calls Ferris residence.

JACK
Sir, are you all right? I heard about it---

BENEDICT
God damn, it's good to hear your voice at a time like this Jack. You 
were there?

JACK 
Let's just say I'm an up to date kind of person.

BENEDICT
You stay at home, often?

JACK
No. If you don't believe me. You and Jolie can...

A long pause.

BENEDICT
Never mind, forget it. You probably don't want to meet anybody right 
now. Take your time. But I do hope you get back to being with my 
daughter again. In fact I do hope you start... erm... visiting us.

JACK
Um, yeah.

BENEDICT
There's something I discovered today, Jack. The man, the terrorist who 
stole money from my bank.

JACK
What?

BENEDICT
I should have told you this a long time ago... but I didn't want to 
be...

JACK
What, sir?

BENEDICT
I saw your girlfriend die.

JACK
Heather?

BENEDICT
Yes. I didn't tell this to Jolie, or anybody...

CUT TO:

The Ferris residence. Benedict on the phone. Jolie just listens in at 
the door of the living room. Benedict doesn't notice Jolie snooping on 
him.

CUT TO:

Jack on the phone.

BENEDICT
The same man that robbed my bank. Was the same person who killed your 
girlfriend, he must have been a small time bandit long time ago. But he 
is the same person. I remember him. It's just a good thing he doesn't 
remember me... 

Jack starts to get furious. Now that he knows the motherfucker who 
killed his girlfriend.

BENEDICT
I was scared shit that day, I couldn't talk about your girlfriend, or 
anybody else he killed. I ran off as soon as there was the pandemonia 
on the street... (Benedict coughs) that day... and I don't think I 
wanna talk---

JACK
Mr. Ferris, I have to go now.

Jack hangs up the phone.

CUT TO:

Day time.

The city skyline, Jack flies, fast, really fast. Then he sees someone 
else flying, someone like him! It's Biggs. Biggs flies past him. Then 
Biggs slowly descends, and lands on his feet at the sidewalk of a 
freeway bridge.  Jack lands in front of him.

BIGGS
You see, Dr. Kessal told me everything. He told me about the sergeant, 
your best friend. And I wouldn't worry about your best friend now.

CUT TO:

Gellar's apartment. He is inside, badly beaten up. His face is bruised. 
He is in pain.

GELLAR
Arrrrrrgh!

He is wearing a black, torn up t-shirt. Must be one of those rugged 
fabrics he has been wearing at 'Nam. But who the fuck cares. He makes 
his way slowly, outside of his apartment.

CUT TO:

Gellar driving his car, barely being able to move properly.

CUT TO:

Jack and Biggs at the sidewalk overlooking the city.

BIGGS
You saved those two cops, Jack. But you also saved my life. I didn't 
realize that someone with... this power would have a conscience.

JACK
What the fuck do you want?

BIGGS
To take out anyone who gets in my way. And you are getting in my way, 
Jack. And Doctor Kessal never told you that you don't have to be dead, 
to be hooked up to his Ultimus device.

Biggs crosses the bustling street. He stands right in front of a 
speeding van. Jack just watches him. Jack shifts his vision to another 
freeway, down below. Then he turns back to Biggs who is now in front of 
a van with a furious driver, honking his horn at him. Then Biggs lifts 
up the van like superman! Biggs levitates slowly, and then finally 
hurls the van off the bridge!

Jack takes off, and then manages to catch the vehicle right before it 
crashes to the other freeway below. Jack doesn't have an easy time 
putting the vehicle back in upright position. Biggs returns to the 
sidewalk, and just watches Jack's inexorable course of action on 
keeping an ordinary family's death away. Jack then, ascends, and then 
lands back to the sidewalk, on the freeway bridge above; again, in 
front of Biggs.

CUT TO:

Kessal's house. Day time. Kessal is in his kitchen. Lying, his mouth is 
covered with duct tape. His hands are tied up with the duct tape too. 
Gellar arrives. Gellar pulls out the tape hastily from Kessal's mouth.

KESSAL
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGH! FUCK! EASY, WILL 'YA!!!!!!!

Gellar bends down and begins to free Kessal of the duct tape in his 
arms.

GELLAR
We don't have much time.

KESSAL
I'm sorry. I woulda been dead if I hadn't been doing what I have been 
doing right under your nose for the past years.

GELLAR
It's all right.

KESSAL
I woulda been dead. Jack woulda been dead.

GELLAR
Well, he will die if he don't move quickly

KESSAL
I KNOW!

CUT TO:

The bridge. The sidewalk. Biggs rises slowly, and finally flies far, 
far away towards somewhere. Jack flies as well, and follows him 
closely. They are like two birds having a race. They are like two 
supermans having a contest.

CUT TO:

Gellar's car. Kessal and Gellar are inside. Kessal drives. Frantically.

GELLAR
Could you be any slower?

Kessal steps on it. The car's engine roars as Kessal begins to bend it 
to it's limit.

KESSAL
Fuck it.

CUT TO:

The secret military base, the gates. Two soldiers guard the gates of 
what is the secret base that Gellar and Kessal have been running 
project Ultimus for a long time. The two guards shoot at Biggs, but the 
bullets just pass through him. Biggs approaches the one of the guards, 
then he extends his arm, straight, his fingers pointing forward, like 
some fancy karate stance and he just penetreates this guard's body. The 
other guard just watches in shock.

The guard under Biggs's mercy begins to tremble! And electricity starts 
assaulting this guard's body! He finally trembles to the max, gets 
toast and his body falls on his back.

Biggs steps down from the guard house and turns to Jack.

BIGGS
I bet that Doctor Kessal never told you that you can also be... 
electrifying.

The second guard approaches Biggs, but Biggs just chops the back of his 
neck, knocking him out instant.

CUT TO:

Biggs's secret lair. Gellar and Kessal see Biggs's body, sleeping, 
hooked up to the... well, the Ultimus device.

CUT TO:

THE SECRET LAB! Biggs and Jack enter simoultaneously, Biggs slowly 
walks towards Jack's CONNECTED body, and then makes a move to UNPLUG 
what's connected to his brain. But just before he does so, Jack does 
the same karate thing that Biggs did to the guard. Then Biggs starts to 
get electrocuted! He doesn't move!

JACK
But I guess you can also be electrifying to someone else who is 
connected to the Ultimus.

Biggs manages to escape Jack's threatening attack. He backs away, 
then...

CUT TO:

Biggs's lair. Gellar whips out a hand gun and starts shooting the 
motherfucker's head. Blood pours out of Gellar's head.

CUT TO:

The secret lab. Biggs's body becomes static, then finally begins to 
vanish... it disappears in a blur of light as---

CUT TO:

Gellar finishes all the rounds in his handgun.

A WHITE FLASH and

CUT TO:

Jack standing in front of his real body in the secret lab. He's just 
glad that it's all over.

FADE OUT.

Inside the secret lab, the next day. Kessal is on the computers, Gellar 
just stands in front of Jack's real body. So does Jack who stands 
alongside Gellar.

Jack sees a defibrillator.

JACK
You're gonna...

KESSAL 
It's what you want. And it might be the only way.

A WHITE FLASH

TIME CUT:

Still inside the secret lab. This time, Jack is normal again! He now is 
using HIS BODY to move, he gets up from the gurney. He scratches his 
head, there's a little blood.

KESSAL
It took a few plastic surgery procedures. But it's what you want 
anyway.

JACK
It's what I want. Thanks.

Gellar just nods at him reassuringly.

Kessal hands Jack a diskette.

JACK
What is it?

KESSAL
It's a diskette. The disk I have inserted in your brain is still 
functional, just as long as you are still alive. It is run by your 
body's natural electricity. And if this disk is destroyed, so will the 
one inside your head. And you will die.

JACK
Fuck.

KESSAL
But you can still thank us. There was no way you would have been alive 
like this without project Ultimus. Let alone, you would have been dead 
by now if you hadn't been picked up by that private. You would have 
been in a morgue... and---

JACK
I don't wanna hear it.

KESSAL
Take care of that diskette. It's your life.

JACK
I will.

CUT TO:

Just outside the Ferris residence, at night. Jolie emerges from the 
front door, and she gets pleased to see Jack! She runs towards him and 
hugs him.

JOLIE
What happened, Jack??

Jolie and Jack kiss.

JACK
Nothing. I'm glad that ... some doctor took care of me.

JOLIE
You were in that other shooting were you?

JACK
I'm sorry, yeah.

JOLIE
But---

Jack kisses Jolie again.

JACK
I called from that ... top secret hospital.

JOLIE
I don't care... as long as you're really okay now.

JACK
I am.

Jack kisses Jolie yet again.

JOLIE
I love you.

FADE OUT.
