EPISODE TITLE:
"FUTURE'S ENTERPRISE"
Act I Teaser
FADE IN.
SPACE.
The Enterprise floats above VERIDAL VI, as Archer's voice
overlaps.
ARCHER
Captain's starlog. Stardate
2351.2. We have just finished
a scouting trip on Veridal VI,
and found no intelligent life.
CUT INTO ENTERPRISE.
ARCHER
(con'd)
The planet seemed to be devoid
of any life for now, but it did
seem like there may have been life
at one time or another.
CUT INTO THE BRIDGE.
Archer sits at his chair and looks down to Mayweather.
ARCHER
Warp 2 Mr. Mayweather.
MAYWEATHER
Yes sir.
Before Mayweather and the crew can even react, the ship begins
to shut down. A silence ensues as Archer calls engineering.
ARCHER
Archer to engineering.
TRIP
Trip here, Captain.
ARCHER
What the hell just happened?
TRIP
I wish I could tell you. But
I--
The ship suddenly kicks back on, but Hoshi is gone, replaced by
a man.
ARCHER
Hoshi?
He turns around--it's Q.
Q
Yes Captain?
[Opening Credits]
Act I Scene 1
Archer stares in disbeleif at Q.
ARCHER
Who are you?
Q smirks.
Q
Why I am your translater of
course.
Q looks down at his uniform, gasping sarcastically.
Q
Or maybe I'm not. Who am I?
What am I?
Q drops from the chair to his knees, as if acting out a drama
play, placing the back of his hand over his head in agony.
Q
My memory...'tis gone.
Q makes a face of disgust, snaps his fingers and reappears
behind Archer. Hoshi is now back in her chair, obviously
confused.
ARCHER
What the hell is--
Q holds his finger up.
Q
I wouldn't get to hasty
Johnathan.
ARCHER
How do you know my name? Who
are you?
Q smiles and reappears in Archer's chair.
Q
Have you ever seen the far
reaches of space? And I mean
the far reaches of space. Not
this wasteful little planet.
ARCHER
I'm only going to ask you this
one last time. Who are you?
Trip enters the bridge.
TRIP
Captain, I--
He spots Q.
TRIP
Who's this?
ARCHER
That's what I'm trying to find
out.
Q stands up from the chair and walks over to the side of the
bridge. He rubs his finger across the wall and sighs.
Q
Of course how could you see the
far reaches of space in a hunk of
junk like this? Just look at this...
this is probably the worst ship design
I've seen in my life.
Trip, a bit irritated by Q, walks over to him.
TRIP
Look, I don't know who you are, but
this ship could outrun anything.
Q
Anything?
TRIP
Anything.
Q laughs sarcastically.
Q
Let's see.
Q snaps his fingers, and after a moment, T'Pol looks up from her
console.
T'POL
Captain, a ship approaching.
A blast rocks the Enterprise.
ARCHER
On screen.
On the viewing screen, a thin and dangerous looking ship
approaches.
Q
They're called the Shakk-Hal. A
disgusting race, but excellent in
their executions.
HOSHI
They're hailing us.
Archer motions for her to bring it up and a grotesque looking
creature, a SHAKK-HAL, appears on the screen. His name is FARAK.
FARAK
Surrender your ship!
Q appears behind Archer.
Q
They get right to the point
don't they?
FARAK
Surrender or be destroyed!
Archer brushes Q off of him and speaks to the Shakk-Hal.
ARCHER
I won't surrender this ship. You
can either live with that, or be
destroyed yourself.
Q
Why Captain Archer, never have I
seen such a more defiant and brave
captain than you. Standing up to the
Shakk-Hal? That's like asking for a
death certificate.
Q snaps his fingers and the Shakk-Hal ship vanishes.
T'POL
The ship has dissappeared.
Archer turns to Q.
ARHCER
Tell me who you are and what
you're doing here, or I'll have
a few officers open fire on you
so quick you won't even see it
coming.
Q smirks.
Q
Yes. I've probably annoyed you
long enough haven't I? But please,
Johnathan, let's discuss this at
a different location. I'm just about
sick of seeing this bridge.
Q snaps his fingers and he and Archer dissappear.
Act I Scene 2
On the planet surface, Arhcer and Q appear.
Q
Have you ever heard of the Q
Continuum?
ARCHER
No.
Q
I thought not. It's a place
where people like me, the Q,
dwell. I can do whatever I
please. I can give one moment,
and taketh away the next.
ARCHER
So your name's Q?
Q
You catch on fast, Johnathan.
ARCHER
Show me.
Q
Show you what? Oh, you want to see a
demonstration. I would have figured
the Shakk-Hal ship that attacked
your ship would have been proof
enough, but...
ARCHER
You did that?
Q
But of course. I can do anything
I wish. I could...give you a beard
one moment...
A beard appears on Archer's face.
Q
Or I could give you a mustache the
next.
A mustache appears on Archer, then dissappears a few moments
later.
Act I Scene 3
T'Pol sits in Archer's chair as she looks over to Malcom.
T'POL
Anything?
MALCOM
I'm having trouble locking onto
them.
T'POL
Keep trying.
Malcom nods.
Act I Scene 4
On the planet surface, there's a silence between Arhcer and Q.
Q
No doubt your crew is trying
to lock onto your location.
Q sighs.
Q
They won't have much luck. I
sort of jammed their signals.
Archer grabs Q by his shirt.
ARCHER
You get me the hell off of
this planet!
Q vanishes and reappears behind Archer.
Q
If it means that much to you,
why didn't you say so?
Q snaps his fingers and they vanish.
Act I Scene 5
They appear on Enterprise.
T'POL
Captain...
Q looks to T'Pol.
Q
Why...I don't believe I've seen
a Vulcan as beautiful as yourself...
Q pauses as if to ask her name.
ARCHER
You made your point. Just get outta
here.
Q
Right away. But there is something.
Q turns to Trip.
Q
Tell me, Mr. Tucker...are you proud
of this ship?
TRIP
You're damn right I am.
Q
So you actually enjoy serving on
this bucket of bolts? I've seen
some bad ships in my time, but
never have I seen a bigger peice
of junk than this.
Trip runs for Q, but Archer grabs him and holds him back.
Q
You're so proud of this ship?
You think this ship is so grand?
Fine.
A short pause and Q snaps his fingers. The whole area flashes
and the crew reappears on a bridge that is not their own. A
bridge that is foreign to them, not the bridge of Captain
Johnathan Archer, but the bridge of Captain James T. Kirk, the
ship to launch under Kirk's command in about 100 years.
Act II Scene 1
The crew looks around the bridge, confused. Archer looks around
for Q.
ARCHER
Q! Q get out here!
MALCOM
You know his name sir?
ARCHER
He told me. Q!
Nothing.
ARCHER
Damnit.
Dr. Phlox enters from the somewhat confusing to him turbolift.
ARCHER
Did you see him?
PHLOX
Who?
ARCHER
I'll explain later. Have you seen
anyone here that doesn't belong
to the ship?
PHLOX
No. I don't believe so.
PHLOX
How fascinating. A sort of alternate
reality...an alternate ship. One that
is similar to our own, but also quite
different at the same time.
ARCHER
Yes it's very interesting Phlox, but
we have to figure out how to get out.
PHLOX
May I ask what the situation is Captain?
ARCHER
Another time Phlox...another time.
Archer turns to Trip.
ARCHER
Trip, try and find engineering and
see if you can figure this thing out.
TRIP
Yes sir.
Archer looks to Mayweather.
ARCHER
Mr. Mayweather, what's the story with
these controls?
MAYWEATHER
They're similar to ours Captain, but
it'll take some getting used to.
ARCHER
And everybody else?
MALCOM
Mayweather's right sir, it'll take
some getting used to until we're out
of this mess, but I believe I can
figure it out.
T'POL
Captain, I believe this signals a ship
approaching.
ARCHER
Let's see if we can get it on screen.
After a few moments, the screen lights up showing the Shakk-Hal
ship. A blast rocks the Enterprise.
ARCHER
Lock on with whatever weapons this
ship has.
Another blast rocks the ship as Malcom calls out.
MALCOM
Locked on sir.
The ship is hit again.
ARCHER
Fire!
Malcom fires and the torpedoes connect, but do little to no
damage.
MALCOM
Little effect sir.
Archer turns to Hoshi.
ARCHER
Hail them.
Hoshi presses a few buttons and nods to Archer to confirm his
open channel.
ARCHER
I'm Captain Johnathan Archer of the
starship...
He pauses, looking around the ship.
ARCHER
...Enterprise...
For a moment there is nothing. Then Farak appears.
FARAK
Surrender your ship or
prepare to be destroyed!
ARCHER
Weapons?
MALCOM
Still locked on sir.
ARCHER
Fire.
The torpedoes connect and do some damage this time.
MALCOM
We've taken out their left
deflector shield.
Archer calls down to engineering.
ARCHER
Trip?
TRIP
I'm still trying, Captain.
A hit rocks the Enterprise as Archer looks to Mayweather.
ARCHER
Mr. Mayweather, let's try and
circle around them.
MAYWEATHER
Yes sir.
Mayweather, although unfamiliar with the controls for this ship,
manages to circle around the Shakk-Hal ship. The move is static
and rusty.
ARCHER
Now let's try another one of those
torpedoes, Malcom.
The torpedoes launch and connect with the ship, damaging it.
MALCOM
They're shields are down, sir.
ARCHER
Again.
The torpedoes fly out and connect, severly damaging it. The
Shakk-Hal ship takes off at Warp 6. Trip's voice comes through
the com.
TRIP
Tucker to the bridge.
ARCHER
Go ahead.
TRIP
Don't quote me on this, but I
think I've got us up to Warp 7.
ARCHER
Hit it, Mr. Mayweather.
Mayweather presses a few buttons and the Enterprise blasts off
at Warp 7.
Act II Scene 2
In Archer's quarters, he records in his starlog.
ARCHER
Captain's starlog. We've made what
is most likeley first contact with
the entity known as Q. He has near
god-like powers, and can do anything
he pleases. He has sent us into an
alternate Enterprise--one that is
totally unfamiliar to us. It's a lot
more technologically advanced than ours
for sure. The crew has had a bit of trouble
adjusting to this ship, but we're staring
to get the hang of it.
Out of nowhere, Q appears.
Q
Captain Archer, was that what I
think it was?
ARCHER
Q.
Q
Have you just admitted defeat?
ARCHER
What is this Q?
Q
Perhaps I should be fair and tell
you.
Act II Scene 3
In engineering, Trip stares in awe at the engines before him.
TRIP
Wow. What a mind blower. These engines
are incredible. Have we figured out the
top speed yet?
ENGINEER
It's not for certain, but I believe
somewhere along the lines of Warp 9.
TRIP
Warp 9. Wow. I didn't think we'd even
make it past Warp 3.
Act II Scene 4
In sick bay, Phlox stands next to T'Pol.
PHLOX
These medical supplies...they're...
like nothing I've ever seen. Way
ahead of their time.
T'POL
I must admit they are very sophisticated.
PHLOX
They're more than just sophisticated
Sub-Commander. They're a link to the
future.
Phlox continues to stand in awe.
T'POL
I must finish my investigation of
this ship. Captain Archer wants us
all to find out as much as we can
about this ship--depending on how
long we are stuck on it. I assume
that means medical supplies as well.
T'Pol walks off as Phlox continues to stare in amazement.
PHLOX
Amazing.
Act II Scene 5
Q relays the news to Archer.
Q
The ship you stand in will belong
to Captain James T. Kirk in about
one hundred years time. I only put
you here to see how you would adjust
to a ship that was superior to yours.
I have to say that you performed
exceptionally. You stood toe to toe
with those Shakk-Hal's and didn't
even back down one bit. Very impressive.
ARCHER
Get us out of here, Q.
Q
Why would you want that ship back
when you have this one? This ship
is in pristine condition but you
want to go back?
ARCHER
This isn't my ship. My ship is where
I need to be...not here. This ship may
be better, but the ship I command is
my ship...no one elses.
Q
You've brought a tear to my eye,
Johnathan, you really have. But I
can't just take you back without
one challenge at least.
Q snaps his fingers and the Enterprise reappears out in the deep
reaches of space.
Q
This is the Oridok Quadrant, an
uncharted area of space that many
say does not exist. Believe me, it
does.
ARCHER
Why did you bring us here?
Q
To proove to you that it does exist.
ARCHER
Why would I care?
Q
You are on a mission of exploration
aren't you? I'm telling you this because
the race that you have encountered today,
the Shakk-Hal, originated from this
quadrant. And they don't like people
who come into their terrirtory without
asking.
A blast rocks the Enterprise as three Shakk-Hal ships surround
it.
Act II Scene 6
Archer runs into the bridge.
ARCHER
Lock on photon torpedoes.
A blast rocks the ship.
MALCOM
They've taken out our bridge deflector
sheild.
Another blast as Q appears on the bridge.
Q
Tell me Johnathan, why don't you just
go into Warp?
Archer looks at Q in disgust and turns to Mayweather as another
blast rocks the ship.
ARCHER
Warp 8, Mr. Mayweather.
MALCOM
Sir, one more hit and we're done for.
Mayweather looks up from the console in confusion.
ARCHER
Mr. Mayweather?
MAYWEATHER
I...I can't go into Warp.
Q smiles.
Q
Oh yes, I forgot...
ARCHER
(angry)
Forgot what?
Q
I disabled your warp engines.
Another blast hits the ship as the Enterprise implodes
violently.
Act III Scene 1
We come back in on Archer's Enterprise, they are all on the
bridge, safe and sound. They are all in their places as if none
of it had happened. Archer looks around for Q.
ARCHER
Q?
Q appears behind Archer.
Q
Yes?
ARCHER
Why are we on my ship?
Q
Isn't that what you wanted?
ARCHER
You destroyed that Enterprise.
Q looks at him in disgust.
Q
Oh please, do you really think I
would alter time that much? That
ship hasn't even been built yet.
T'POL
Captain, the Shakk-Hal ships are
gone.
Archer looks to Q.
Q
I assume you'll want to put this
in your starfleet records? But
before you do, you'll have to get
out of here.
ARCHER
What are you talking about?
Q
You're still in the Oridok Quadrant.
Or didn't you know that? Get home now
on your precious ship. Show me how
great this ship is now.
Q dissappears.
ARCHER
Damnit Q! Get out here!
Nothing.
HOSHI
Sir, there's someone hailing us.
ARCHER
Put it through.
Archer walks up to the viewing screen.
ARCHER
I'm Captain Johnathan Archer of
the starship Enterprise.
A different Shakk-Hal, NURAK, appears. He begins speaking in a
strange tone, most likely the Shakk-Hal language. Archer looks
at Hoshi.
ARCHER
Any idea?
HOSHI
It'll take a while to decrypt.
ARCHER
We don't have a while.
Archer looks back to Nurak.
ARCHER
Excuse me, but I don't understand
your language, maybe you could--
He shouts out angrily.
NURAK
You primitive humans. Don't you
learn any language but your own?
Act III Scene 2
In engineering, Q appears behind Trip.
Q
How are we doing today?
TRIP
Q.
Q
Well, I didn't see these engines...
at least these are impressive, unlike
the rest of this ship. I don't know
why your captain would want to go
back to a ship like this.
TRIP
You wouldn't understand. You don't
have a conscience.
Q
You have struck a nerve in me, Mr.
Tucker. How could you think that?
I brought you back to your ship
didn't I?
TRIP
Yeah but with what changes?
Q
No changes. This ship is exactly
as you remember it...well, except...
Trip turns around.
TRIP
Except what?
Q
Your torpedoes are gone, and I've
taken down all your shields by 50
percent. And your warp engines are
offline. Starting right...
Q snaps his fingers.
Q
...now...
Trip pushes Q out of the way and runs for the bridge.
Act III Scene 3
On the bridge, Archer continues to speak to Nurak.
ARCHER
We don't want any trouble, we are
peaceful people on a mission of
exploration.
NURAK
Peaceful? How can you call it peaceful
when you come into our territory and
destory one of our ships?
ARCHER
That was defense. They were attacking us.
NURAK
Liar! Prepare to be boarded!
Q appears in a corner with his arms folded just as Trip runs into the bridge.
TRIP
Captain! The shields are down by 50
percent.
Archer looks to Malcom.
MALCOM
I'm seeing no sign of it, sir.
Q speaks up.
Q
Oh yes, Mr. Tucker, I forgot to mention
that your scanners will not pick it up.
Archer looks to Mayweather.
ARCHER
Warp 3, Mr. Mayweather.
TRIP
The warp engines are offline, Captain.
Archer walks over to Q.
ARCHER
Alright, you listen to me Q. You
either get us the hell out of here
or--
Q
--or what? What are you going to do
if I don't get you out of here?
Archer stammers and looks for an answer.
Q
Wait...do you hear that?
T'POL
Three lifeforms have just entered
Enterprise.
ARCHER
Malcom. Trip.
He motions for them to follow as they exit the bridge.
Act III Scene 4
Archer, Malcom, and Trip grab weapons off the rack and run out into a
hallway.
TRIP
There!
Trip aims and fires, connecting with a Shakk-Hal at the other end of the
area. Two Shakk-Hal's step out from both sides of the hall and fire their
weapons. Archer, Trip and Malcom dive for cover. Archer turns to Trip and
Malcom.
ARCHER
I'll go around the other way, you
keep them busy.
MALCOM
Yes sir.
Archer sneaks down the hall as Trip and Malcom fire on the Shakk-Hal's as a
distraction.
Act III Scene 5
On the bridge, T'Pol sits in Archer's chair as Q stands next her.
Q
I have to say your captain is a
very brave one. Wouldn't you say?
T'POL
You have caused a great deal of
chaos for Captain Archer and his
crew. It would be smart of you to
leave immediately.
Q
What's this? A Vulcan showing a
form of emotion. You actually
care for him? I think not.
T'POL
I think you should send us back
to a more civilized region of space
and leave the ship.
Q
But I'm not done yet. There's still
something I need do before I vacate
this ship.
Q dissappears.
Act III Scene 6
Trip and Malcom continue to fire on the Shakk-Hal's as Archer sneaks around
the hallway. Archer leans around and whacks one of them with the butt of his
rifle, and rams his shoulder into the other. As the Shakk-Hal runs at him,
Archer ducks and delivers a knee into it's gut. The Shakk-Hal falls to the
ground as Malcom and Trip run up. Q appears just as they arrive.
Q
Well done Johnathan. I must say
that you gave these brute's the
beating of their life.
Q snaps his finger and the Shakk-Hal's dissappear.
Q
But there's still the matter of
that Shakk-Hal ship outside.
Archer, Trip, and Malcom run for the bridge.
Act III Scene 7
They arrive in the bridge just as a blast rocks the ship. Archer shouts out.
ARCHER
Get out here Q! Now!
Q appears in Archer's chair.
Q
You rang?
ARCHER
I want you to--
Q
Save your breath. I know exactly
what you're going to say.
Q snaps his finger.
Q
Warp engines on.
Archer, reluctantly, turns to Mayweather as a blast rocks the ship.
ARCHER
Warp 3.
The Enterprise blasts off at Warp 3.
Act IV Scene 1
In Archer's quarters, he records in his starlog.
ARCHER
Captain's starlog, supplemental.
The entity known as Q may have
saved all of our lives from the
vicious race named the Shakk-Hal.
It is to my understanding that the
ship he transported us into will
be in control of James Kirk in about
100 years.
Archer stops recording and we pan around to see Q.
Q
Penny for your thoughts?
Archer turns in his chair, connecting eyes with Q.
ARCHER
Listen to me Q...
Q
No you listen to me, Johnathan.
I just...no. I don't think that
you're ready for this.
ARCHER
Ready for what?
Q
This. This whole adventure you
just had. Your feeble minds won't
even be able to handle it. You're
just not fit to take on something
of this caliber. I knew Picard would
be the only one to be able to handle
it.
ARCHER
Picard?
Archer shrugs it off.
ARCHER
Q, if you don't--
Q snaps his fingers abruptly and Archer, along with the entire crew, freezes.
Q sighs as he looks at Archer.
Q
I'll never understand humans,
never in a million years. Dogs
on the other hand...
He looks down at Porthos, who isn't frozen. He then looks back to Archer.
Q
Pity they'll never know. They're
just not ready for it. None of them
are...well...
He looks down to Porthos again.
Q
Except for you...
Q waves his hands, wiping their memory of any existence or the encounter they
had with Q and the Shakk-Hal. Q vanishes and everybody resumes what they were
doing, with no memory of Q or the encounter. Archer sits in his chair and
begins recording.
ARCHER
Captain's starlog. Stardate
2351.2. We have just finished
a scouting trip on Veridal VI,
and found no intelligent life.
Act IV Scene 2
On the bridge, Archer sits in his chair. He looks to Mayweather.
ARCHER
Straight and steady, Mr. Mayweather.
Warp 2.
MAYWEATHER
Aye, sir.
The Enterprise flies off at Warp 2.
