SPOOKED

A Screenplay by Chad Langen

FADE IN:

A TEXT appears at the bottom of the screen. It reads: 1976

EXT. WOODS - NIGHT

WE SEE two figures sprinting toward a church that lies ahead of them.
They are barely visible through the scattered trees.

They come to the front of the church. CAMERA CLOSE IN on two young
boys, PETER and BILLY, neither a day older than eleven years of age.

Billy pulls on a handle of a wooden door.

	BILLY
It's locked.

	PETER
Let me.

He nudges Billy out of the way as he removes something from his pocket.
It's a KEY.

	PETER (CONT'D)
You forget Billy boy...

He unlocks the door.

	PETER (CONT'D)
My dad's the pastor.

They enter.

INT. CHURCH - SANCTUARY - SAME

The two boys stand in a large sanctuary looking around, making sure
there's no one in sight.

	BILLY
You go it?

Peter removes his shoe and pulls something out of it. It's a JOINT.
2.

	PETER
Yep.

He sticks it between his lips, lights it, and takes a long drag.

	BILLY
Yeah?

	PETER (exhaling smoke)
Oh, yeah.

He hands it to Billy who takes an even longer drag. He then passes
back to Peter.

	PETER (CONT'D)
You know what they say about this place don't you?

Peter takes a drag then passes it to Billy.

	BILLY (taking the joint)
What?

Billy takes a drag.

	PETER
It was sometime in the late 1800's, when this church was first being
established. A man by the name of William Roschse was working with the
crew who was building the place at the time, right. Anyway, he had
feelings for his fellow worker's wife. She was a lovely
lady...probably her late twenties. She went by the name of Elizabeth
Fontria. So, her husband comes home one night, right? And he finds
her and William in his bedroom making love, but he doesn't say
anything. Instead, he gather's the rest of the worker's who were
working on the church at the time, and they set the house ablaze. Why
he would set his own house on fire is beyond me. Anyway, Elizabeth
makes it out, but only to watch William burn to his bones.

Billy hands Peter the joint. Peter takes a drag then hands Billy the
joint.

	BILLY (taking the joint)
So then what happened?

3.

	PETER (exhaling)
Well, they say that William haunted these very grounds and killed off
every worker that was there the night he was burnt to his death. It's
said that he still haunts this place. Many people claim to have seen
him. Most say he was wearing a black cape earning him the name (dead
serious) The Black Phantom.

	BILLY (exhaling smoke)
You're just messing with me.

There's a moment of silence.

	BILLY (CONT'D)
Aren't you?

There's another moment of silence.

	PETER (laughing)
Yeah, I'm just messing with you.

	BILLY (relieved)
Thank you. I thought you were serious for a second.

	PETER (serious)
Oh, no.

	BILLY (worried)
What?

	PETER
It's a full moon.

	BILLY
So?

	PETER
So? Don't you know?

	BILLY
What?

	PETER
Every full moon, they say The Black Phantom comes back looking for his
beloved Elizabeth.

4.

	BILLY
Why a full moon?

Billy takes a long drag.

	PETER
Because that's when he's able to see best. When he was burning he
couldn't see through the smoke. So he returns on full moon nights,
kind of like this, in hopes of seeing Elizabeth.

Billy hands him the joint. Peter takes a drag.

	BILLY
You know what? Maybe we should go.

	PETER
Billy, it's just a story.

	BILLY
I don't know man. I heard about all those people reported missing.

	PETER
Man, it's a story. A story my dad made up to keep trouble makers like
us out of here.

	BILLY
I still say we should go.

	PETER (holding up the joint)
Man, this shit is making you crazy.

	BILLY
Maybe so.

	PETER
Man, why are you letting a stupid story get to you?

Billy shrugs. Suddenly, a figure passes from the side.

	BILLY
What the hell was that?

	PETER
What?
5.

	BILLY
Someone just walked by.

	PETER
Man, you're losing it.

	BILLY
You know what? I think I'm just going to head home.

	PETER
What? I thought you were staying over at my place.

	BILLY
I was...

	PETER
Look if we leave, will you stay.

	BILLY
Yeah, but only if we leave right now.

	PETER
Fine.

Peter takes one last drag before he puts the joint out on his shoe.

	PETER (CONT'D)
Guess we'll have to smoke this some other time, unless I get bored.

Billy makes his way toward the two wooden doors they entered through.

	PETER (CONT'D)
Shouldn't have even told you that story.

Billy pushes on the door.

	BILLY
What the...

PETER (nudging Billy out of the way)
Let me try.

He pushes.

6.

	BILLY
Is it locked?

Peter pushes again.

	PETER
I guess, but how. The door locks from the inside, not out.

Peter looks at Billy who looks terrified.

	PETER (CONT'D)
Oh, and I suppose you think The Poltergeist did it.

	BILLY
Is there another way out of here?

	PETER
Yeah, there's a back door in the kitchen.

Suddenly, something passes by in front of them.

	BILLY
Okay, now what the hell was that!

	PETER
Let's get out of here!

They start running down the aisle between the two rows of pews.

Billy looks behind them to find a figure in black coming toward them in
mid-air.

	BILLY
Holy shit!

	PETER
What?

He looks back to find the figure right on there tails.

	PETER (CONT'D)
Oh my, God! It's The Black Phantom.

They are now running faster then ever.

7.

	PETER (CONT'D)
Let's split!

	BILLY
No!

Peter who is ahead of Billy turns down a hallway.

	BILLY (CONT'D)
Peter, wait!

Billy turns down the hall. Peter is nowhere in sight. Billy looks
behind him. Neither is the phantom. Billy turns back around to find
The Black Phantom in mid air right before his face. Billy screams.

INT. KITCHEN

Peter hears Billy's screams. Terrified, Peter quickly pushes on the
back door. It's locked.

Peter spots a window on the other side of the kitchen. He quickly
makes his way over to it and opens it. He looks toward the doorway to
find, The Black Phantom hanging in mid-air.

Peter begins crawling through the window. Like magic, the window
shatters into bits. Peter looks up to find the rest of the window
coming down. He makes an effort to move. Too late. It impales him.
Blood splatters everywhere. The Black Phantom is nowhere in sight.

FADE TO:

EXT. COUNTRY ROAD - AFTERNOON - PRESENT DAY

WE SEE a suburban coming down the road. It leaves a trail of dusk
behind it.

	MALE VOICE (V.O.)
They say he was burnt alive.

INSIDE CAR---

CLOSE IN on girl in the passenger's seat. This is CHELSEA MORTON, 17,
head cheerleader at Roosevelt High School.

8.

	CHELSEA
That is so not true. The entire town of Colby covered up the death of
William Roschse like it never happened. As for Elizabeth, she was put
to death just a few days after the incident took place. No one knows
what really happened to William, and anyone who told, was put to death
as well.

	MALE VOICE
It's true.

CLOSE IN on a boy, FRANK CONNOR, 17, the average stoner. He lays in
the second back seat.

	FRANK (CONT'D)
Every now and then the national news media and other powerful sources
come in looking for a new story on The Black Phantom, but they are
always turned down and they end up leaving a day later. It's crazy.

In the seat before Frank is JASON CROMWELL, 18, a school drop out.

	JASON
You guys are full of shit. There was a story in The National Enquire
on the legend of The Black Phantom. The photos showed the body of
William, and it was burnt toast.

	CHELSEA
No wonder you dropped out of school. The National Enquire is phony.
Every article written up in that paper is complete bullshit. Besides,
the legend dates clear back to the 1800's. And if you would have
stayed in school longer, you would have known that camera's weren't
invented yet, and even if they were, the film that was used when the
first camera was invented was shit and wouldn't of lasted this long.

	MALE VOICE
Actually, that's not true.

CAMERA CLOSE IN on a boy in the driver's seat. This is ADAM CORBETT,
18, head quarterback at Roosevelt High School.

	ADAM (CONT'D)
You see, camera's had been invented back then. In fact, they date back
to the Civil War when they were first becoming popular.

	JASON
And you would know this, how?
9.

	ADAM
It's called History.

	JASON
Oh, yeah?

	CHELSEA
Yeah. But he wouldn't expect you to know that, you know, being a drop
out and all.

	JASON
Really, because I heard that every time you attend school, you have
someone's dick in your pants, right, Frank?

Frank rises up from the backseat.

	FRANK
What?

	CHELSEA
Kiss my ass, Jason!

	JASON
I'd love too.

	ADAM
Hey, Jason. When's the last time you got any? Huh? Junior High?

Chelsea busts up laughing.

	JASON
Hey just because I don't brag about what goes on between me and my
women, doesn't mean it doesn't happen, okay?

	CHELSEA
Yeah, I'd like to see some proof for that. Maybe The National Enquire.

Jason flips her off.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D)
I'll pass.

10.

	JASON
Hey, Adam. What have you and Karen done lately? Huh? Nothing? Yeah
I though so.

	CHELSEA
Speaking of Karen. Where is she?

	ADAM
She's with Bill.

	JASON
What?! What the hell is she doing with Bill?

	ADAM
She wanted to ride along with him and Stacey.

	JASON
And...

	ADAM
And what?

	JASON
You trust her with Bill? You're out of your damn mind. I mean for all
we know they could be pulled over to the side of the road having a
threesome.

EXT. PRIVATE DRIVE - MOMENTS LATER

WE SEE a truck sitting in a private drive. From here we can see a guy
in a girl making love to each other inside.

INT. TRUCK - SAME

The two continue to make out. This is BILL CLANTON, 18, and STACEY
THOMAS, 17.

	BILL
God, I love you.

	STACEY
Ah, really?

	BILL
Oh yeah.

11.

They continue to kiss.

Suddenly, A girl, KAREN WINSTON, 18, rises from underneath the steering
wheel. We did not notice her before. She storms to the other side of
the truck and sits, arms crossed. She's angry.

	STACEY
What's wrong?

	KAREN
I don't know. Take a wild guess.

	BILL
Karen, don't be like this.

	KAREN
Well how do you think it feels? Huh, Bill.

	BILL
I...

	KAREN
While I'm down there, cheating on my boyfriend, pleasing "Mr. Johnny",
you're up here, telling Stacey how much you love her.

	BILL
And...

	KAREN
I have a boyfriend, Bill! I shouldn't be doing this, but I am.
Because I love you.

	BILL
And I love you too. It's just I love Stacey too.

Stacey smiles at her.

	KAREN
Well, maybe we shouldn't do this anymore.

	BILL
Karen, don't be like this.

12.

	KAREN
It's time to go.

	BILL
Karen...

	KAREN
Drive.

	BILL
Whatever.

He starts the truck. They pull away.

CUT TO:

EXT. COUNTRY ROAD - MOMENTS LATER

The suburban continues down the narrow dirt road.

	CHELSEA (V.O.)
Damn, I didn't know this place was so far out of town.

	ADAM
Sixteen miles.

	JASON
What the hell is a church doing sixteen miles out of town?

	ADAM
Beats the hell out of me.

	CHELSEA
If this place has been here since the 1800's then why the hell are we
attempting to fix it. I mean, It's old enough, why don't they just
tear it down and build another one.

	ADAM
Because Colby's cheap. They want to save as much money as possible.

	JASON
Why? It's not like they don't rake in enough doe from the stoners and
their marijuana. No hard feelings, Frank.
13.

	FRANK
None taken.

	CHELSEA
Is that it?

CHELSEA'S POV---THROUGH WINDSHIELD

A church lies about a quarter mile away.

	ADAM
Yep.

	CHELSEA
Thank, God. I got to hit the bathroom before I soak my panties.

	JASON
Thank you for sharing.

	ADAM
Yeah, that was a little more information than we wanted to hear.

	CHELSEA
It's true. I hope there's some tp.

	JASON
You'll be lucky if there's even running water in there, let alone
toilet paper.

EXT. ROAD

The suburban pulls into the church lot. It comes to a halt before two
familiar wooden doors.

	JASON (CONT'D)
What a wreck.

JASON'S POV---THROUGH THE WINDOW

The church sits with broken windows, peeling paint, falling shingles.
It's a total wreck.

	ADAM
Well I hope you weren't expecting the Taj Mahal.

14.

	JASON
No, I was thinking more Playboy Mansion-ish.

	ADAM
Then your on the wrong bus route, son.

Frank rises up from the back seat.

	FRANK
Are we there already?

	ADAM
Yeah, man. We're done. We're getting ready to go.

	FRANK
Sweet.

He lays back down.

JASON (slapping him on the head)
Get your ass up, boy.

	FRANK
Okay. Okay.

They climb out of the suburban.

EXT. DRIVE

They stand looking at the abandoned church.

	CHELSEA
It's looks like it could give any minute.

Adam walks toward the two wooden doors.

	JASON
You think it's locked?

	ADAM
I guess we'll find out, won't we?

He pulls on a handle. The door opens with ease.

15.

	ADAM (CONT'D)
That was cake.

He sticks his head into a dark, moist church. He quickly pulls his
head out.

	ADAM (CONT'D)
Oh, it reeks of shit!

The others laugh.

	ADAM (CONT'D)
You guys want to smell it?

They shake their heads "no".

	ADAM (CONT'D)
Thought so.

	FRANK
Where the hell are those guys?

	ADAM
I don't know, but it's 2:30 and we can't start without them.

	JASON
Speak of the devil.

JASON'S POV---

A truck comes our way down the road.

	ADAM
Bought time.

The truck pulls into the drive and comes to halt at the side of the
church.

INT. TRUCK

Bill looks at Karen before turning the ignition off.

	BILL (to Karen)
You doing to be okay?

16.

	KAREN (opening the car door)
I'll be fine asshole.

She slams the door. Bill and Stacey look at each other and shrug.

Adam greets Karen with a hug and kiss. The other's follow.

	ADAM
Hey, baby.

	KAREN
Hey.

Adam senses something wrong.

	ADAM
You okay?

	KAREN
Uh, huh.

	ADAM
Okay.

Bill and Stacey come around the side of the truck.

	BILL
Hey guys.

	ADAM
Please tell me you stopped and got that shit I told you too.

	BILL (pulling open the tailgate)
It's all right here.

	ADAM
Thank, God.

He fumbles around with some of the supplies.

	ADAM (CONT'D)
Got the crowbars. The hammers. Lights. Gas.

Frank digs through some of the supplies.
17.

FRANK (holding up a nail gun)
What the hell is this?

	BILL
It's called a nail gun, weed brownie.

	FRANK
No shit, anal probe. This.

He holds up the cord which is now in two.

	BILL (grabbing for it)
Oh shit! That's my dad's! He's going to freak!

He shoves Frank out of the way. Stacey chuckles.

	FRANK
Hey, watch it!

	BILL
Shit.

	JASON
Big freakin' landslide. How much could it of costs? Sixty dollars?

	BILL
Try two hundred, smart one.

	ADAM
Put that shit behind you, we've got bigger fish to fry.

	BILL
Like what?

	ADAM
Like getting our asses to work on this piece. The construction crew
will be out here in two days, and I told them that we would have this
done by time they got here.

	CHELSEA
What the hell did you tell them that for?

Adam is about speak, but Jason interrupts.

18.

	JASON
What can anyone do that will help this dump out?

	ADAM
We're going to pop all the windows out and ceil all the cracks in the
ceiling.

	FRANK
You gotta be shitting me.

	ADAM
Hey, your the one who volunteered for this.

	FRANK
My ass, I volunteered. My mom signed me up for this shit.

	BILL
Well, she must of had a good reason. I can think of several off the
top of my head.

Frank flips him off.

	STACEY (drawing close to Bill)
You wish. That's my boyfriend.

	ADAM
Would you guys cut it out?

Bill grins at him.

	ADAM (CONT'D)
Now, come on. Let's go see what we're in for.

	BILL
We could have done that before we made the mistake of volunteering for
this crap.

Frank glares at him as Bill enters.

JASON (putting his hand on Frank's shoulder)
Smoke it off.

Jason walks in.

Frank mumbles under his breath and follows the rest of them in.
19.

Adam walks over to the suburban where Karen is leaning against.

	ADAM
You sure you're okay?

Karen nods her head "yes".

	ADAM (CONT'D)
You just haven't said much since we got here.

	KAREN
I'm fine.

	ADAM
Did Bill say something that offended you?

	KAREN
I said I'm fine, Adam.

She kisses him as she heads for the church and enters. Adam follows.

CUT TO:

INT. CHURCH - SANCTUARY - MOMENTS LATER

We're in what used to be a sanctuary for a church. The seven stand
stare around.

	FRANK
You were right about one thing, Adam.

	ADAM
What's that?

	FRANK
It's smells like ass up in here.

Chelsea runs her hand along a window. She looks at her hand which is
now covered in dust.

	CHELSEA
Damn, where's house keeping when you need it?

20.

	JASON
Yeah, I don't think this place is holy anymore.

	FRANK
Except for all the holes in the windows and ceiling.

	ADAM
Oh, shit, Frank! There's a spider on your head.

	FRANK (rapidly brushing his hair)
Where?! Get it off! Get it off.

Everyone tries to hold their laughs in. There is no spider on his
head.

	BILL
Is that a black widow? Oh my, God it is.

	FRANK
Get it off! Please! Get it off!

	JASON (laughing)
Ah, bust!

Everyone lets lose a laugh. Everyone but, Frank.

	FRANK
What?! Adam, you dick!

	STACEY
You loser.

	FRANK
Quit dicking around, Adam. There's work to be done.

	ADAM
He's right.

The others still laugh.

	Frank (mumbling)
Asses.

He brushes his hair one last time. Just in case.

21.

	ADAM
Alright, Jason, Chelsea, Karen, and I will work on popping these
windows out...

	BILL (interrupting)
Oh, no. I ain't getting stuck with Frank.

	ADAM
Bill...

	BILL
No man.

	ADAM
Bill...

	BILL
I'm not getting stuck with Frank, man.

	ADAM
Fine. We'll switch off.

	BILL
What?

	ADAM
We'll switch off. We'll take him for an hour and you guys take him for
an hour and so on. You get him first. You're going to work on the
ceiling.

Frank is getting angry with them.

	BILL
Wait. Adam, man, this kid can't tie his own shoes, how do you expect
him to stand on a ladder?

Frank looks down at his shoes. They are untied. He covers them up
embarrassed.

	ADAM
That or nothing.

	BILL
Fine.
(to Frank)
Go out and grab the ladder.
22.

Frank mumbles under his breath as he heads for the wooden doors and
exits.

EXT. CHURCH - LOT

Frank walks over to the truck and pulls open the tailgate.

EXT. TAILGATE

Frank sits on the tailgate. He removes a lighter from his pocket, and
a joint from his shoe.

	FRANK (CONT'D)
Yes, finally.

He sticks it between his lips and lights it up.

A semi passes by. Frank nods his head. The man inside rolls his eyes.

	FRANK (CONT'D)
Harsh, man.

After another long drag he puts the joint out on his shoe.

	FRANK (CONT'D)
Catch you later.

He puts the joint in his shoe.

As he begins pulling the ladder out he spots something through a window
near the back of the church. It looks like a black cape.

Frank shakes his head. He looks back. Nothing.

	FRANK (CONT'D)
Weird.

He pulls the ladder out and heads inside.

INT. SANCTUARY

Jason, Adam, Chelsea, and Karen have already gotten to work.

	BILL
Finally.
23.

Franks hands him the ladder. Bill snatches it away from him. He
smells the weed on Frank.

	BILL
Taken a little break, were we?

	FRANK
What are you talking about?

	STACEY
Bill, lay off. Let's get this crap done so we can head out. We've got
plans of our own.

They kiss.

Bill sets the ladder up.

FADE TO:

Jason, Karen, Adam, and Chelsea who are popping windows out with
crowbars.

FADE TO:

Frank on top of ladder. Bill shakes it. Stacey laughs.

FADE TO:

Jason slamming his crow bar through the window shattering it. Chelsea
laughs. Karen stays quiet like she has been the whole time. Adam gets
on him. Jason rolls his eyes.

FADE TO:

Bill on ladder. They have moved. Bill working to ceil a crack in the
ceiling.

Frank is hitting on Stacey who is holding the ladder.

FADE TO:

	CHELSEA
Yes, that's it.

Jason points to the other side of the room. There's a whole other wall
full of windows. Chelsea moans.
24.

FADE TO:

Bill climbing down from the ladder.

	STACEY
What's wrong?

	BILL
Got to go out and grab some more ceiler. I'll be right back.

Jason who is working to pop out a window gets a drop of rain on his
face.

	JASON
Yo, I think it's starting to rain.

	ADAM (working on a window)
So.

There's a roll of thunder. Then we see a bolt of lightning. Suddenly
the rain gets harder.

	JASON
Okay, it's starting to poor.

	ADAM
We have to finish removing all these windows.

	KAREN
Adam...

	ADAM
What?

	KAREN
Look outside.

ADAM'S POV---

It's pouring rain outside.

	ADAM
We have to finish.

25.

	KAREN
Can't we finish tomorrow.

	ADAM
Sure. We can finish tomorrow.

	FRANK
Really?

	ADAM
Yeah.

	FRANK
Cool.

	ADAM
The only problem is, we have two days to get this done.

	CHELSEA
So we'll finish tomorrow.

	ADAM (sarcastically)
Excellent idea.

Chelsea flips him off.

	ADAM (CONT'D)
This is at least a three day project, guys. We'll barely get it done in
two. We can leave as soon as we finish popping out these windows.

	FRANK
What about the rain? Won't it get in.

	ADAM
You're right.

Bill slaps him on the head.

	FRANK
Owe, what the hell was that for?

	BILL
For having a big mouth.

26.

	ADAM
Bill, he's right. We have to find some wood or something to put on the
windows to keep the rain out.

	JASON
Man, that could take hours.

	ADAM
Not if we work together.

	BILL
Hey, Adam, let me ask you something.

	ADAM
Shoot.

	BILL
Who put you in charge?

	CHELSEA
Here we go.

	ADAM
What?

	BILL
I want to know who put you in charge. Your telling us what has to be
done, when, and how it has to be done.

	ADAM
Well then speak up. If you want something done your way, speak up.

	STACEY
Guys, this is getting us nowhere.

	KAREN
She's right. We'll never get out of here at this rate.

Stacey smiles at her. Karen sees it but ignores her.

	CHELSEA
We're not going to get out of here at all, if it continues to pour like
that. I've heard of people who have been out here for days because
they got stuck out here.
27.

	ADAM
You guys want to leave, then leave.

	BILL
Fine, let's go guys.

	CHELSEA
Wait a second. How the hell are we suppose to get out of here?

	BILL
We'll take my truck.

	JASON
Great idea, Bill. There's just one problem. How are we all suppose to
fit in your truck?

	BILL
We're not. You guys can ride with A...dam....

Adam smile at them.

	KAREN
Adam?

	FRANK
Adam, let's just get out of here. It's pouring rain. It's getting
dark, and you know what they say when it gets dark around here.

There's along moment of silence.

	ADAM
Your scared.

	FRANK
No, I'm not scared.

	ADAM
Yes, you are, you're scared.

	FRANK
Cut it out, okay. I'm not scared.

	ADAM
Franks scared. Watch out Frank! The Black Phantom might...Get Ya!
28.

Frank jumps.

	BILL
Cut it out man.

Frank's surprised Bill is sticking up for him.

	ADAM
Scaredy cat! Frank's chicken! Chicken! Don't piss your pants.

Karen is embarrassed by the way he is acting.

	KAREN
Adam? Your acting immature.

	ADAM
Don't tell me your scared too.

	STACEY
So ignorant.

	ADAM
Scaredy cats! Chickens!

Bill has had enough he charges as Adam continues to yell. Suddenly,
Adam is grabbed out of mid-air by...

THE BLACK PHANTOM!

	FRANK
Holy...

	BILL
Shit!

Adam screams as he is pulled through the air by the phantom.

	ADAM
Help me! Somebody help!

The others can't believe their eyes.

Adam can barely see what's behind him, but gets a glance of a large
chandelier holding candles.
29.

Adam screams thinking he is going to hit it. Instead he is pulled
around it missing it by inches.

We can barely see the phantom. Suddenly, Adam spots a large, stained
window above the pulpit. He screams as he crashes through it. The
phantom disappears in mid-air as Adam slams into a broken limb. It
goes straight through him. Blood flows from his mouth as he hangs
helplessly.

The others down below stare at him blankly, then they all scream.

	BILL
Let's get the hell out of here!

They all run for the wooden doors as rain blows through the open holes
where the windows once were. They can barely see through the darkness
that has fallen over them.

They all exit screaming.

EXT. CHURCH - LOT - NIGHT

It's pouring rain. Some of them run for the suburban the others for
the truck.

	STACEY
What the hell was that thing?!

	BILL
Who cares? Let's get the hell out of here.

The two of them climb into his truck. Bill starts it.

SUBURBAN

	CHELSEA
Oh, shit!

	FRANK
What?

	CHELSEA
We don't have the keys!

They all run for the truck. Too late. It pulls away.

30.

	CHELSEA
Wait!

	JASON
Get back here you asshole!

INT. TRUCK

Bill and Stacey sit terrified.

BILL AND STACEY'S POV---THROUGH WINDSHIELD

	STACEY
Can you see anything?

	BILL
Not really.

CUT TO:

EXT. LOT

The others stand hopelessly.

	JASON
There is no way I'm staying here with that thing!

	CHELSEA
I can't believe they left us here.

CHELSEA, JASON, and FRANK'S POV---

Bill's truck swerves off the road.

CUT TO:

INT. TRUCK

	BILL

They roll as they slam into the ditch.

EXT. LOT

	FRANK
Woe.

	JASON
Let's go!

They head toward the truck.

INT. TRUCK

Stacey's head raises.

	STACEY
Owe.

She looks around.

	STACEY (CONT'D)
Oh, my God! Bill!

Stacey begins shaking him.

	STACEY (CONT'D)
Bill! Where are you?

She sees a large hole in the windshield. She looks out to see

BILL

laying dead in the grass.

	STACEY
Bill!

She tries to open her door it won't open.

	STACEY
Shit.

She crawls to the other side of the truck. She pulls on the door. It
opens. She stumbles out and falls to the ground. She crawls over to
Bill. He is covered in blood.
32.

	STACEY (crying)
Bill?

No answer. No movement.

	STACEY
Bill?

She starts to shake him. Still no answer. She begins to cry.

	CHELSEA (O.S.)
Stacey? Bill?

	STACEY
Over here!

WE SEE Chelsea, Jason, and Frank.

	CHELSEA (to Jason and Frank)
There she is.

They run toward her.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D)
Are you okay?

	STACEY (crying)
Yeah, but Bill...

	JASON
Oh, shit.

	STACEY
Do you think he's dead?

Jason walks over toward him. He looks for a pulse. Nothing. Jason
nods his head "yes".

	STACEY (CONT'D) (crying)
No.

33.

	CHELSEA
Stacey.

	STACEY
No.

	CHELSEA
There's nothing you can do.

	STACEY
Bill.

	CHELSEA
Come on, Stacey.

Chelsea helps Stacey to her feet. Stacey is in tears.

	JASON
Now what the hell do we do?

	CHELSEA
We need a phone. We need to call for help.

	FRANK
The suburban.

	JASON
What about it?

	FRANK
Adam had a phone.

	CHELSEA
He's right.

	JASON
Let's go.

They begin to head back toward the road when...

THE SUBURBAN

passes by.

34.

	FRANK
What the...

	JASON
That was the suburban!

	CHELSEA
No shit!

	JASON
How the...

	CHELSEA
Karen.

	JASON
But, how'd she get the...

	CHELSEA
She must have gotten them from Adam.

	ADAM
Great! Now what the hell do we do!

	CHELSEA
Calm down.

	JASON
Why?!

	CHELSEA
Because screaming like a maniac isn't going to get us anywhere.

Stacey stands looking at Bill.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D)
Look, I know this is going to sound crazy. But we have to go back to
the church.

	JASON
Are you crazy?! After what just happened to Adam!

	CHELSEA
I know...

35.

	JASON
No way! I am not going back there! Let's just stand here and wait for
somebody to come by.

	CHELSEA
News Flash, Jason! When's the last time you saw a car go by here?
Huh? Standing out here is going to do us no good.

	JASON
Neither is going back in there, unless you want to come out looking
like Adam and right now, that's not at the top of my Christmas list.
There's got be a farm or something around here with a phone.
Anything's better than going back in there.

	CHELSEA
Okay. Stay out here in the rain, Jason. You're still going to end up
looking like Adam. At least in there it's dry.

	JASON
Chelsea...

	CHELSEA
Look, if the legend is correct, this thing as a weakness.

	JASON
Keep talking.

	CHELSEA
This man was burnt alive, right?

	JASON
Man...

	CHELSEA
William. I think Bill has some flashlights in the back of his truck.

	JASON
So.

	FRANK
We can use them against the Black Phantom. He was burnt. So it should
be afraid of any kind of light.

36.

	JASON
Which means it won't come near us.

	CHELSEA
Exactly.

	JASON
To the truck?

	CHELSEA
To the truck.

They make way for the truck. Stacey still stands staring at Bill's
body.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D) (to Stacey)
You okay?

She reaches puts her hand on Stacey's shoulder. Stacey pulls away.

	STACEY
No.

Jason and Frank dig through the back of the truck.

	JASON
Damn, everything's all scattered around.

	FRANK
Here's some lanterns.

	CHELSEA
Grab 'em.

Frank picks one up.

	JASON
It's broken. Real convenient.

	CHELSEA
Are they all broken?

Frank picks one up.

37.

	FRANK
This one isn't.

	JASON
Damn, I can't find the flashlights.

	CHELSEA (pointing)
Check that black bag.

Jason grabs the bag and unzips it. Bingo.

	JASON
Yes. This is it.

Chelsea walks over to Stacey. The rain still pours down.

	CHELSEA
Stacey.

	STACEY
We were going to get married. That's what we always told each other.

	CHELSEA
There's nothing you can do.

Stacey breaks out in tears again.

	JASON
You ready?

Chelsea looks at Stacey.

	CHELSEA
Stacey?

	STACEY
That fucker's going to pay for this.

CUT TO:

INT. CHURCH - SANCTUARY

The two wooden doors open. The four of them enter dripping wet.
Everything's quiet. Too quiet. Everyone but Stacey. She holds a
lantern.

38.

	JASON (whispering)
You think it's still in here?

	CHELSEA
I don't know.

Chelsea looks up.

CHELSEA'S POV---

Adam still hangs on the limb helpless.

Chelsea quickly looks away. They walk toward the hallway.

INT. HALLWAY

	CHELSEA
Ah, what is that smell?

	JASON
It's smelt like this all along.

	CHELSEA
Yeah, but here it's stronger than before.

Suddenly a rat scurries across the floor. Everyone jumps.

	FRANK
Damn, rats.

	JASON
Let's check some of these doors.

	CHELSEA
For what?

	JASON
Anything that will keep that winged bastard away from us.

	CHELSEA
All right. Just promise we won't split up. Every time they do in the
movies, they end up getting picked off faster.

39.

	JASON
Believe me, we are not going to split up.

Jason walks over to a door and tries to open it.

	JASON (CONT'D)
Locked. Great.

	CHELSEA (pointing)
Check that one.

Jason walks to the next door and turns the knob.

	JASON
Locked.

	CHELSEA
Are they all locked?

	JASON
I don't know.

Suddenly they here the sound of shattering glass.

They all jump. They turn around to find Frank. He has broken the door
to an emergency fire axe case.

	FRANK
Sorry.

	STACEY
Moron.

	JASON
Actually...

He walks over to the case.

	JASON (CONT'D)
You're a genius Frank.

Jason grabs the axe inside.

40.

	FRANK
I am?

CUT TO:

INT. KITCHEN

An axe breaks through the door splitting the wood. A hand punches
through the hole and unlocks the door. The door opens to reveal Jason
and the others. They enter.

	JASON
A kitchen.

	CHELSEA
Ah, the smell's worse.

	FRANK
Hey, food.

Frank walks over to a refrigerator.

	CHELSEA
I don't even want to know what's in there.

	FRANK
Well, I do. I'm starving.

He pulls the door open. He quickly draws his face away.

	FRANK (CONT'D)
Good, Lord!

Everyone else covers their noses.

	FRANK (CONT'D)
Is that what you were smelling, Chels?

	CHELSEA
I don't know?

	STACEY
Close it!

41.

Frank quickly shuts it.

Jason walks over to a door and opens it. It's a cellar.

	JASON
Ewww, I think that's what you were smelling!

	CHELSEA
What the hell is that?

	JASON
Let's find out.

	CHELSEA
Don't tell me you're going to go down there.

Jason begins walking down.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D)
Jason!

She hurries after him.

INT. CELLAR

	CHELSEA
Jesus, that's horrible!

They all have their noses covered as they make their way down the
stairs.

Jason shines his flashlight around.

	JASON (terrified)
Oh, my God.

What he sees terrifies all of them. Over fifty mutilated, dead bodies
lie before them.

	FRANK
Holy, shit.

	CHELSEA
Screw this!

42.

She runs for the stairs. Everyone follows, but before Frank gets to
the top the door slams shut. Frank screams.

	CHELSEA (O.S.)
Frank! Frank!

Something hits him causing him to tumble town the stairs. He loses his
flashlight as he hits the floor. The light goes out. We see nothing.

	JASON (O.S.)
Frank! Frank are you okay?

	FRANK
Ah, man.

He fumbles around for his flashlight.

	CHELSEA (O.S.)
Frank, talk to us!

He doesn't answer. He continues looking for his flashlight. He grabs
something. It's the flashlight.

	FRANK (shaking the flashlight)
Yes. Come on. Come on.

The light flickers, then comes on. Right as it does, he comes face to
face with

THE BLACK PHANTOM!

Frank screams as he is decapitated. His head rolls to a corner.

CUT TO:

INT. KITCHEN

	CHELSEA
FRANK!

	JASON
It got 'em.

	STACEY
Let's get the hell out of here!
43.

They take off running.

	JASON
Wait!

They all stop.

	CHELSEA
What, Jason?! Let's get out of here!

	JASON
The light.

	CHELSEA
What?

	JASON
It's not the light.

	CHELSEA
Damn it, Jason! You're not making any since! It's not the light!
What do you mean it's not the light?!

	JASON
We know Frank had his flashlight with him, right?

	CHELSEA
Yeah, but Jason, it could of broke when he rolled town the stairs.

	JASON
Maybe. But it was working before he went down the stairs and that
thing knocking him off shows that the light was no harm to it.

	CHELSEA
So how do we stop this thing?

	JASON
Fire.

	STACEY
Come on guys, let's just get the hell out of here!

44.

	JASON
The fire. He was burnt alive. He's scared of fire.

Jason runs over to a drawer by the sink.

	CHELSEA
Jason, what the hell are you doing?

	JASON
Help me a second.

	CHELSEA
With what?

	JASON
Help me find some rags.

	CHELSEA
Some rags.

	JASON
Yeah. Look in there.

He points to a drawer. Chelsea opens it.

	CHELSEA
Here.

She grabs a bunch.

Jason takes them.

	JASON
Those too.

She takes them all.

	STACEY
Oh, shit, guys! It's coming!

They turn around to see

THE BLACK PHANTOM!

45.

Suddenly the floor starts chasing them as well.

They enter the sanctuary.

INT. SANCTUARY

They run down the aisle.

Stacey comes to a stop right below the chandelier.

	STACEY
Wait!

Jason and Chelsea stop.

	STACEY
It's gone.

Suddenly

THE BLACK PHANTOM

flies by the chain holding the chandelier to the ceiling and cuts it.

	JASON
Stacey! Look out!

46.

Stacey looks up as Jason rushes toward her to push her out of the way.
Too late. Jason trips just as the chandelier crushes her and cuts two
of his fingers off. Blood splatters everywhere. Jason screams.

	CHELSEA
Jason!

She rushes toward him.

He grabs Stacey's lantern.

THE BLACK PHANTOM

hovers above them.

Suddenly the beams above them begin to break and the windows begin to
shatter.

	JASON
Shit! You have the rags?

	CHELSEA
Here.

She hands them to him.

THE BLACK PHANTOM

gets closer.

Jason breaks the top of the lantern off and shoves the rags onto the
flame.

THE BLACK PHANTOM

gets closer.

	CHELSEA
Hurry!

The beams and windows continue to break.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D)
Jason it's coming!

47.

The rags catch fire at the top of the lantern.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D)
Jason!

Jason climbs to his feet.

	JASON
Burn you bastard!

He throws the lantern. It hits the floor. Flames rise.

	CHELSEA
Let's go!

They run as the windows and beams break behind them.

THE BLACK PHANTOM

is right on there tails. The fire is not far behind them either.

They get to the wooden doors. They're locked.

	JASON
Shit!

THE BLACK PHANTOM

Jason looks around.

	JASON
There!

He points at a hole where a window used to be.

	JASON (CONT'D)
Let's go!

They run toward the window as

THE BLACK PHANTOM

gets closer.

48.

They get to the window.

	JASON (CONT'D)
Go!

Chelsea crawls through as fast as she can.

THE BLACK PHANTOM

is inches away.

	CHELSEA
Come on!

Jason begins to crawl through when

A FALLING BEAM

crushes him. He screams.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D)
Jason!

She grabs for him when

THE BLACK PHANTOM

appears before her.

It pulls Jason in.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D)
No!

The whole church is up in flames.

	CHELSEA (CONT'D)
