MUSIC VIDEO TO MY LOVERS GONE - DIDO
B/W
EXT. (A WIDE OVERHEAD VIEW) /SHOT OF AN OLD, BUT WELL-PRESERVED WOODEN
HOUSE WITH A TERRACE CLOSE TO A ROCKY CLIFF OVERLOOKING THE SEA.
Autumn weather, gusty wind, dark, heavy clouds.
Waves crashing on rocks in shallow waters.
The front doors open, A BIG WHITE DOG runs out onto the terrace, lays
down on the floor near the entrance,
following the dog is A WOMAN IN A LONG, DARK COAT, she turns back
and,--
EXT. THE TERRACE /CLOSE ON HAND GRABBING THE DOOR-KNOB
--shuts the door.
/THE CAMERA PANS OUT TO SEA
The woman descends from the terrace, raises the collar of her coat with
both hands, walks slowly, doesn't mind the wind, after a while she
turns her head towards the house, the DOG raises and paces toward the
SHORT, WOODEN STAIRS leading down, to THE WIDE SANDY BEACH.
The woman slowly head the same direction.
EXT. THE FRONTYARD /CLOSE-UP OF THE WOMAN'S FACE
This is the moment we recognize her as DIDO.
You can see sadness and melancholy mirroring in her eyes.
Her eyes turned downwards as she walks
FOLLOWING THE CAMERA
Approaching the top end of the stairs, she STARTS SINGING.
EXT. BEACH - BOTTOM OF THE STAIRS
she sings:
...returns no more...,
The DOG approaches her, after pacing lonely up and down the beach,
DIDO looks at him
...I will not watch the ocean...
She leans down, strokes him, very absent-minded, not paying attention
to the pet
...no earthly ships will ever
bring him home again...
The dog heads out to the beach.
EXT. BEACH
From now on DIDO walks down the beach singing.
DIDO'S P.O.V.
...no more his song...
a burnt out camp-fire, a thick dried tree used as a bench lays nearby.
DIDO unbuttons her coat, sits down, sings:
...I sing alone,
while I watch the ocean...
looks towards the sea, into the ditance, as if beyond the horizon.
While singing the line:
...no earthly ships will ever
bring him home again...
she turns her eyes towards the cold ring of ash.
/THE B/W PICTURES BECOME COLORED.
EXT. BEACH - THE BURNING FIRE - NIGHT
Memories from the past.
DIDO and her BOYFRIEND are sitting on the same piece of wood.
HE'S PLAYING THE GUITAR, DIDO sitting by his side watches him.
After a while he puts the instrument aside leaning it a the "bench".
He puts his arm around his GIRLFRIEND and kisses her.
She puts her head on his shoulder. Then picks up a stick laying in the
sand and readjusts the wood in the fire, a huge amount of sparks shoot
to the sky. He reaches for two metal cups resting in the sand at his
feet, hands one to DIDO, they take a sip. Talk to eachother, she laughs.
All in all, a romantic evening, as it seems.
After some time he points with his hand, somewhere beyond the fire
EXT. /A SHOT FROM BEHIND THEIR BACK
The DOG approaches, and when passing the fire...
/THE SHOT GOES BACK TO B/W
...the flames seem "sucked" undergrond.
EXT. BEACH THE FIREPLACE
We're back in present times.
Dido's sitting in the same place, her face covered with both hands. The
dog sits at her feet, pushing his nose against her arms. She wipes off
the tears rolling down her cheeks, then puts her hands on the dogs
neck. Looking into the eyes of her animal friend, sings the song, as if she
tried to explain her moods, or even excuse her behavior.
As the lyrics end, Dido stands up, the dog follows.
/THE CAMERA FOLLOWS THEM
walking away from it.
DISSOLVE.
/FADE OUT
