IN REALITY

INSANE ASYLUM- NIGHT
Camera begins filming outside lonely looking building (insane asylum), and
enters through the doorway. Then camera follows a trail through the halls
of the building, until it reaches the darkened room with the patient.
(During that, credits are rolling, & music)
Camera enters the room and moves across the floors/walls to show the
atmosphere, then focuses and stops on a dark figure sitting in the corner of
the room. The door suddenly opens and lets in a sliver of light, leaving
the rest of the room dark. Doctor 1 walks in.
DOCTOR 1
So? How are you feeling today?
Doctor 1 looks at her clipboard. The stranger responds by nodding their
head.
DOCTOR 1
I just came to deliver a message from Dr. Ashbury, since he’s a little
preoccupied at the moment. He just wanted me to come and give you the
required dosage of today’s medication.
Doctor 1 looks at her clipboard once again, waiting for the patient to
respond, which they don't. The doctor 1 puts the little cup of water and the
medication on the table, then continues.
DOCTOR 1
(Continues)
Your stay may end up being cut down to 5 months because you've made
noticeable progress these past months...but you know, if you feel that if
there are any problems, or that you're not ready to go then you'd be welcome
to stay until the full 6 months originally stated.
Doctor 2 comes into the room and whispers something to the first doctor.
Doctor 1 turns back to the patient and motions to the medication on the
table.
DOCTOR 1
Alright, well...I'll step out now, but...if you could please take the
medication before you go to bed tonight.
(pause)
Have a good night.
The doctor 1 steps out of the room, but doesn't shut the door fully. You
can hear the doctors' conversation pretty clearly.
DOCTOR 1
(In background)
Personally, I don't think that patient will ever be fit to leave.
DOCTOR 2
Come on, don't be such a pessimist. Besides, I hear the patient's made some
very good progress since the first few weeks.
DOCTOR 1
Yes, that's what it seems, and yet I still think that Dr. Ashbury should
keep the patient here more than a couple months or so. Something just
doesn't seem right. But for everyone's sake, I hope that no troubles arise,
because it could cause a relapse.
DOCTOR 2
You seem to know a lot about this patient…
DOCTOR 1
Actually, I don’t. I just have a strange feeling when I go in that room.
That...I can't even explain it, but an uneasy feeling…
DOCTOR 2
Does that feeling have anything to do with the fact that you know this
patient has committed a murder? (joking) I know that would sure as hell do
it for me!
DOCTOR 1
Yes, I suppose so. I’m just afraid that other people may be in danger.
****TITLE SCREEN "IN REALITY"****
OUTSIDE- NIGHT
Alex McKay is walking home from soccer practice. It is dark out and she is
hurrying toward her house. Suddenly, there's a noise coming from behind
her, like footsteps. Alex speeds up and looks behind her every so often.
She finally reaches her house and unlocks the door, then goes in.
ALEX'S HOUSE- NIGHT
Alex takes off her shoes/jacket etc. and throws her bag on the floor. She
walks upstairs.
ENTER ALEX'S ROOM- NIGHT
Alex is now in her room. There's a noise coming from downstairs. Alex is
scared, and she is standing outside her room and looking down the stairs.
She hears the noise again, but louder. She picks up a weapon of her choice
and starts down the stairs with caution.
ENTER LIVING ROOM- NIGHT
Alex stands in the entranceway to the living room and pauses. She notices
that the backdoor is open and the cool air is flowing into the house.
ALEX
Hello?
Alex begins walking into the living room. She shivers as the cool breeze
brushes past her. She grips her weapon of choice even harder.
ALEX
(To herself)
It’s so friggin’ cold!
Alex is about to turn on the lights. Before she does, someone grabs her
from behind. Alex drops her weapon as she struggles to get away. Suddenly,
the attacker begins laughing hysterically and lets Alex go. Alex turns
around and faces the attacker. After catching a glimpse of her attacker,
Alex seems to recognize him.
ALEX
(Squints in the dark)
Connor?!
Connor Rhodes flicks on the light switch.
CONNOR
(Smirking)
In the flesh. Who'd ya think it was? Some escaped psycho?
ALEX
(Pissed off)
Sure fits your profile, doesn't it? I can't believe you did that!
CONNOR
Oh, come on! It was just some harmless joke, right? I mean, look, no one
got hurt...
ALEX
Hurt? No…scared to death almost? Yes…
Alex, who is annoyed, turns from Connor and goes to shut the backdoor.
Connor follows a couple feet behind with an amused look on his face. After
she shuts the back door she turns around, not looking amused, to glare at
Connor, then crosses the floor to pick her weapon up from the ground.
ALEX
(Picks up her weapon)
And plus, you could've been knocked in the head...
CONNOR
Alright, I'm sorry...if I knew that you'd go ballistic over this, then I
would've thought twice about it...
ALEX
(Annoyed)
Who wouldn’t have gotten upset over this?! I seriously thought someone was
in here…
CONNOR
…I’m sorry.
Alex holds the weapon in her hand and then crosses her arms, giving Connor a
brief smile. She seems to lighten up a bit.
ALEX
(lightening up)
Alright, well, at least it was only you and not really some crazed psycho.
CONNOR
(Smiles back at Alex)
Ya, at least you’re still alive.
ALEX
Alright, now…as much as I would love for you to keep me company…I really
need
To take a shower and get some sleep.
CONNOR
(Jokingly)
Hey, I could handle that.
Alex playfully pushes Connor towards the front door. Connor gets the hint
and opens it.
ALEX
I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that last comment.
(Smiles again)
CONNOR
Alright, well I guess I’ll see ya later.
(Pause)
But remember to check for monsters under your bed before you go to sleep,
okay?
ALEX
Ha-ha...now go before I really do knock you over the head with something.
CONNOR
(Smiles)
'Night.
Alex shuts the door behind Connor and then locks it. She looks around the
room for a moment and then sighs in relief. Alex goes back upstairs.
VICTORIA'S HOUSE- EVENING
Victoria Emerson and Alyssa Yorke are lounging, and watching TV. Victoria is
also talking on the telephone to someone.
VICTORIA
Ya, I can’t wait to see you tonight either.
(Pause)
Okay, I’ll see you later then…no! Not now, you’ll have to wait. It’s only
a couple
Hours away anyway, you can wait. Alright, see ya.
Victoria hangs up the phone and then sits herself down in front of the
television without addressing Alyssa. Alyssa, who is reading a magazine,
looks over at Victoria curiously.
ALYSSA
(Looking over at Victoria)
Why do you look so happy? Wait let me guess, you were talking to Justin,
right?
VICTORIA
Did it ever occur to you, that I might look happy because I am happy?
(Pause)
But yes, I was talking to Justin.
ALYSSA
(Reading magazine)
Does Alex know about you and Justin yet?
VICTORIA
(Getting riled up)
Of course! Why wouldn’t I tell her?! Do you think I wouldn’t tell Alex?
She’s
Like the first person I would tell!
ALYSSA
Alright, already! You don’t need to get yourself all riled up over nothing…
(Trails off)
Yah, why were you getting upset anyway…I just asked you a question that’s
all.
(Suspicious)
Wait a minute…you wouldn’t get all upset unless you were hiding something.
After stating this, Alyssa turns curiously toward Victoria, awaiting an
answer. Victoria fidgets in her seat and looks everywhere except at Alyssa.
VICTORIA
What are you talking about? I was just saying how she’d be the first person
I
Would tell…
(Trails off, then mumbles)
First person I SHOULD tell…
ALYSSA
(Tosses down magazine)
Vicky!
VICTORIA
What?
ALYSSA
You haven’t told Alex about any of this yet?!
(Begins before Vicky can start)
Wait, don’t answer that. I know for a fact that you haven’t told her yet.
VICTORIA
(Jumps up from her seat)
I can’t! You know how impossible it is to tell your best friend that you’re
Seeing the guy she’s been in love with since the 8th grade!?
Victoria is pacing around during the conversation with Alyssa.
ALYSSA
(Looks at Victoria in disbelief)
Who cares how impossible it is?! It’s something she has to know, otherwise…
I doubt your friendship will last through this.
VICTORIA
(Shifts uncomfortably)
I know…I just can never find the right time to tell her.
ALYSSA
The right time? What are you talking about?
(Calms down)
…You know what? It really doesn’t matter when or where you tell her now.
You’ve already held this from her too long…so, it’s not going to make a
difference
Anyway.
Victoria is silent.
ALYSSA
You should’ve thought this out even before you and Justin started dating, so
that you wouldn’t have had to go through all this.
Alyssa shakes her head in pure disappointment while Victoria sits quietly
for a moment.
ALYSSA
Why did you just jump into a relationship with Justin if you knew it would
hurt
Alex anyway?
VICTORIA
(Frustrated)
I don’t know! I just did! We liked each other a lot, and I don’t know, at
the time
It seemed like a good idea…
ALYSSA
A good idea? Yah, a good idea if you wanted to throw away your friendship.
VICTORIA
(Really upset)
Do you think I don’t already know all of this?! I never meant to get myself
in
This situation! And I definitely never meant to hurt Alex!!
(Almost in tears)
I bet you can’t even imagine how sorry I am! Look at me! Look what I did to
Alex…and she never suspected it! You know why? Because I’m her best friend…
And best friends are not supposed to do what I did…
ALYSSA
Don't tell me how sorry you are…tell Alex.
VICTORIA
(Turns away)
I’m going to…
Victoria sits herself back down and seems like she is just in her own little
world. She is just sitting immobile, looks like she’s thinking.
ALYSSA
You'd better just hope that she doesn't find out from someone else other
than you. I'm actually surprised that she hasn't found out yet...I mean, you
go to the same school, and have basically the same group of friends...
VICTORIA
(Monotonous)
I told Justin to keep things low until things blew over...
ALYSSA
Until things blew over?
(Sighs)
You know, it would’ve been a lot easier if you acted like a real friend to
her.
VICTORIA
(Getting defensive)
You seem to be having fun throwing all of this in my face…
ALYSSA
Well, it’s not my fault you got yourself into this mess, now is it?
VICTORIA
I know it isn’t! It’s no one’s fault besides my own, but everything you’re
telling
Me, are things I already know…so, you’re not helping anybody.
ALYSSA
Well, you’re not doing anything about it either.
VICTORIA
Would you just back off for a few seconds so I can think! You’ve been up
in my
Face since I got off the phone….just drop it, okay?
ALYSSA
(Picks up magazine)
Fine. But before I drop it, I’m going to say one more thing because I feel
I have to
Say it.
(Becomes serious; turns to look at Victoria)
You’re making a big mistake about choosing Justin over your friendship with
Alex…because Justin’s a loser. It might take you a while to notice, but
you will.
VICTORIA
Who says I’m choosing Justin over Alex anyway?
ALYSSA
No one has to say it. It’s already been done.
VICTORIA
You’re probably just saying he’s a loser because you’re mad at me. But it
doesn’t matter anyway, I really like him. Plus, Alex still has a thing for
him too remember? So, he can’t be all that bad.
ALYSSA
Well, she has a thing for him, but she won’t when she hears what’s going on
Behind the scenes…but also I think she needs to set her standards
higher…actually…much higher.
Victoria gets up and goes to the front door.
VICTORIA
I’m leaving okay? I’m just sick and tired of all you’re bashing of
everybody.
ALYSSA
Of everybody? So, what? Now you think that you and Justin are the centre of
the world? And besides, I’m just bashing you and Justin…But okay, see you
later.
Victoria is getting her shoes on etc. She opens the door and then is
surprised. Alex is standing there, and looks like she was about to knock.
ALEX
Hey, Vic! I didn’t know you were going to be over here.
Alyssa stays sitting down and watches the scene from where she is. Victoria
steps aside and lets Alex come into the house, so that Victoria is closest
to the door and Alex is in between the door and Alyssa.
VICTORIA
(Avoids eye contact)
Actually, I was just leaving…
ALYSSA
(Snootily)
Yah, Vicky, is upset about something, and so she wants to go home to cry.
Victoria looks over at Alyssa in disbelief. Alyssa grins, and then stands
there expecting Victoria to say something. Alex turns to Victoria genuinely
concerned, which is making things even harder for Victoria.
ALEX
(Concerned)
What’s wrong Vic?
Alyssa begins to make her way over to where Alex and Victoria are standing
with a very smug look on her face, though none of them realize this except
Victoria, because Alex has her back to Alyssa.
ALYSSA
Oh, don’t concern yourself too much Alex, it’s not good news that you want
to
Hear…
ALEX
(Confused)
What? What are you talking about?
ALYSSA
Vicky…I’m dead serious…if you don’t tell her right now. I will.
Victoria looks really upset, like she doesn’t know what to say right now.
Alex looks first at Alyssa, then to Victoria confused.
VICTORIA
(Looking at the floor)
Alex, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you for a while now…and I
guess I was afraid to tell you because you will hate me…
(Pause)
But there’s no point in dragging it out any longer, so, I’m just going to
say it. Umm…
(Uncomfortable pause)
I’ve been seeing Justin for the past two weeks and I didn’t know how to
tell you.
Victoria, who was looking at the floor to begin with, looks up quietly at
Alex. Alex is not making eye contact with anybody, and is being really
quiet as well.
ALEX
(Obviously upset)
Well…this isn’t exactly what I expected from you…why didn’t you tell me
before?
VICTORIA
I know, I’m so sorry…I didn’t want to tell you because I knew how much you
Liked Justin and…I didn’t want to hurt you.
ALEX
(Turns to Alyssa)
Did you know about this?
ALYSSA
(Defensive)
Hey! I knew that they were going out…but I totally didn’t know that she
hadn’t told you yet. I thought she was going to.
ALEX
It doesn’t matter.
(Turns toward them and stops)
I just thought that you would’ve told me earlier…I mean, I have a right to
know
About THAT…
VICTORIA
You did have a right to know. But I didn’t know how to tell you. I hope
you know
Though, that I would never do that on purpose…ever…
ALEX
(More upset)
So, you thought that what I didn’t know, wouldn’t hurt me? Is that it?
(Pause)
I never thought you would ever go for Justin, let alone lie to me.
VICTORIA
I know…it’s hard to understand why I would do it. It’s hard to explain
too.
ALEX
You think it’s hard to explain how you feel, huh? Well, you want to know
how I
Feel right now? You will never understand how it feels to like someone so
much
For such a long time, then have your best friend end up with him instead of
you!
Then lie about it!
VICTORIA
You’re right, I wouldn’t understand, but there’s nothing I can to do fix
things
Right now. But if I could go back in time, I would…
ALEX
It doesn’t matter anymore. What’s done is done.
Alex turns and sits in one of the chairs in Alyssa’s living room.
VICTORIA
Alex…
Alex ignores Victoria’s plea. Victoria knows this is her cue to leave, so
she does.
Camera fades but this is obvious that it is still a dream. Camera is being
shown from someone’s point of view, but you have no clue who. The person is
walking up a staircase. Once the person reaches the top of the stairs, they
walk into a room and see a dead body (Victoria’s dead body) and while all
that is going on, there are echoing screams in the background, growing
louder and louder.
ALEX'S HOUSE-MORNING
Alex is sitting in her pajamas at the kitchen table eating cereal. She is
clearly upset about something.
Alex is stirring her cereal around and around in the milk and isn't really
eating that much. Alyssa walks into the room. She notices the expression on
Alex's face.
ALYSSA
Hi, I let myself in...I hope you don't mind...
(Continues)
So...what's the long face for? Why'd you want me over here so badly?
ALEX
(Looks up from bowl)
I had the dream again...last night...
ALYSSA
(Surprised)
What dream? You mean the “dream” dream?!
(Pause)
Who knows how long it’s been since you’ve had that…that’s really weird that
you’d have it now….like almost like what? A year later?
ALEX
(Upset)
I know...that's why I'm so upset...it's like I forgot all about it and then
all of a sudden I have the same dream over again.
(Continues: seems to be in a trance)
I remember how Vicky and I fought over stupid Justin…then she went off with
him to some party and I never saw her again.
ALYSSA
(Concerned)
I know…I’m sorry.
ALEX
(Comes out of trance)
That’s alright. It’s not your fault anyway. The dream was just so clear.
It felt like everything was happening all over again.
ALYSSA
(Understanding)
Well then, since we’re on the topic, I hope you don’t mind me asking…how are
you doing?
ALEX
(Looks down at bowl)
I'm alright...well, I was until last night, that is… I don’t understand why
I would have that dream now, when it’s been so long since all of that
happened. It just doesn’t make any sense.
ALYSSA
It was the exact same dream though? Like, was anything different in any
way? Do you maybe remember more of it?
ALEX
(Shakes her head 'no')
No, I think it's pretty much the same as it always has been...
ALYSSA
Okay, look...if you want to talk about all this...that's alright with me. I
just didn’t want to bring anything up, in case you didn’t want to be
reminded, you know?
ALEX
Well, it doesn’t really matter now. I can remember everything so clearly
now.
(Continuing)
You know, I just can’t believe that something like that happened to me. I
don’t think anyone really thinks of what their life would be like if
something like that happened. Or…at least, I never did. I guess that’s why
it was such a shock.
ALYSSA
I know…it’s like you don’t think about what you have until it’s gone. I
know that if something ever happened to any of my friends, I’d be pretty
messed up. So, I definitely don’t blame you for feeling the way you do.
ALEX
I can’t help feeling the way I do anyway. The last time that I saw her, we
were in a huge fight and it was clear that our friendship was pretty much
over…if I had only known what was going to happen…
ALYSSA
Oh, come on! You can’t blame this on yourself. You had no way of knowing
what was going to happen. I mean, you didn’t know some freak was out there
just waiting to do something so dumb…
ALEX
(Looks at Alyssa)
Alyssa...maybe I shouldn’t blame myself…but I can’t help but think about
everything that happened. It’s kind of hard not to when the dreams don’t
stop. That one dream is haunting me…and it has been haunting me since the
first time I had it. After having the dream last night…I have been seeing
this vivid pictures of what happened…
ALYSSA
I’m sure there’s a way you can get you mind off it. You should make sure
that
You’re always out doing something.
ALEX
I’ve tried…well, I haven’t exactly tried all that hard, but everything just
keeps playing itself over and over in my mind.
FLASHBACK: Alex has a flashback of going up the stairs and seeing Vicky’s
dead body. Seen from different perspectives. After flashback, camera
re-focuses on Alex and Alyssa.
ALEX
(Near tears)
And I can just imagine her screams echoing inside my head…
ALYSSA
Maybe you could see a psychiatrist and talk about everything with them.
That
Way…maybe by getting it all off your shoulders, the dreams will stop.
ALEX
(Looks suspiciously at Alyssa)
You think I’m crazy?
ALYSSA
(Sympathetic)
No, of course not, Alex! You’ve been through a hell of a lot, and I think
it’s
Normal that you’re feeling this way. I really do…but I just think it might
do you
Some good to talk about it.
ALEX
I just wish this could’ve all been avoided in the first place…
Why didn’t I just let Vicky and Justin go out…it’s not like I would’ve ever
gone out with him.
ALYSSA
Hey, what'd I tell ya! I told you Justin wasn't worth fighting over. He's
such a jerk, and I'm glad that you can see it now at least.
ALEX
So, I should’ve listened to you before, huh?
ALYSSA
Maybe…but, whatever, it’s over now so, just be thankful that it’s a bright
new year. Now you can start all over and forget about everything that
happened.
(Pause)
That reminds me, we have to get started on relaxing’ so, how’s about we do
something tonight? I don’t know what, but we’re not going to sit around on
a Saturday, right?
ALEX
(Lightening up a bit)
Ya, okay. Sounds good. But...
Alex gets up and starts to put her dishes away, etc.
ALEX
...I need to get ready and stuff, which might take awhile.
ALYSSA
Oh, hey, take your time. I have to go back home anyway to finish up some
laundry that my mom’s been bugging me to do. But just phone me when you’re
all ready, okay?
ALEX
(Shakes her head yes)
Of course. Thanks for listening too…
Alex is cleaning up her dishes and stuff, putting things away, and Alyssa is
preparing to leave the room.
ALYSSA
Alex, you know I’m always here if you need me, it was no problem at all.
(Pause)
But I’ll talk to you in a bit, okay?
ALEX
Yah, sure.
Alex sits silently. Alyssa is gone and Alex sits there thinking with her
head in her hands.
OUTSIDE- EVENING/NIGHT
Samantha, Katie, and Alex are walking to Catherine's house.
KATIE
Anyway, I called him last night and he wasn't home...AGAIN. It's like he
avoids me or something. And it really doesn’t make any sense, because a
week ago, he was totally in love with me!
SAMANTHA
Ya well...guys are weird. One day they want one thing, and then the next
day they have completely changed their minds.
KATIE
Still...it bugs me because I really do like him, and I’m kind of afraid that
things won’t end up working out between us. And where would I be without
him, anyway?
SAMANTHA
Well, I could see you sitting on a nice beach with a bunch of hot guys.
Trust me, I know that if it didn’t work out between you two, that you’d find
another boyfriend in no time.
KATIE
But I don't want another boyfriend. I'd miss him too much.
ALEX
Don't worry about what could happen, just be thankful that you're with him.
That's what I would do.
KATIE
Hey, you know what? I should try that…I seriously spend so much time
worrying about what could happen…
ALEX
There ya go. Just don't think about that.
They keep walking toward Catherine’s house.
KATIE
I’m going to feel so out of place…
SAMANTHA
Why?
KATIE
Because I don’t know Catherine personally, I only know of her.
ALEX
Don't worry. I don't really know her either. All I know is that she was in
my history class.
SAMANTHA
Well, don't worry. Those aren't the only people going to be there...at
least I don't think so. What number is her house again?
KATIE
How do you expect us to know that? You were the one who was on the phone
with her, remember?
SAMANTHA
Ya, but didn't I tell you what number it was when I got off the phone with
her?
KATIE
Not that I can remember. Unless, I wasn't paying attention to what you were
saying...which, could be very likely in my case.
SAMANTHA
(Sarcastic)
Gee, that's nice to hear...
KATIE
Aww, come on, you know I’m only kidding around…but no, I don’t think you
ever told me what number the house was.
SAMANTHA
(Thinking)
Wait, I think I know what number it is...umm, I'm pretty sure she said that
it was number 14.
KATIE
You think it's 14? Well, then…14 it is!
SAMANTHA
(Mumbles)
Now, let's just hope I'm right.
Samantha, Katie, and Alex walk up to the door. Camera shows them standing
at the door. Samantha knocks on the door and then they wait quietly and try
to hear any footsteps inside the house. Door opens a minute later.
Catherine answers the door.
CATHERINE
Hey guys! We didn't think you would find the house, well...or we thought
you got lost. Something like that.
SAMANTHA
Well, it wasn't the finding your house thing that was the hard part, it was
just the remembering the house number part that got me second-guessing.
KATIE
(Grinning)
Actually, we almost didn't know what house it was...but only because it was
Sam who you told the number to.
CATHERINE
Seriously, eh? Oh well, you guys got here fine, so come on in!
Samantha and Alex enter the house and take off their shoes. Catherine shuts
the door behind them and leads them into the living room where everyone else
is sitting. Catherine begins to introduce them to a couple people who are
standing near the entranceway.
CATHERINE
(Introducing them)
Sam...you know everyone here...so, Katie and Alex, this Ali...she's in our
math class. Umm, this is Kristie, and Sarah...oh and I don't know if you
already know Justin...
ALEX
17mins (Interrupts)
...No! Well, I haven’t…met him before…
Justin glances nervously around the room and Alex pretends like nothing is
wrong.
ALEX
(Continues and turns to Samantha)
So, what time did Alyssa say she was going to be here at?
SAMANTHA
Uhh...I don’t Know...I think she said something about being off work at 9.
Do you want to sit down somewhere?
Some girl pushes past Alex, Samantha and Katie. On the way, she by accident
drops some of her drink on Alex’s shirt. Katie and Samantha look at the
girl in disgust.
KATIE
Did you see her just do that and not apologize?
(Looks at the girl again)
Do you want me to drag her over here and make her apologize to you?
ALEX
Why bother? It’s just going to start trouble.
(Looks down at her shirt)
It’s okay, really. I’ll just go to the bathroom and clean myself up a
little.
KATIE
You sure? I would do it, I swear, just say the word…
(In disbelief)
Hey! Did you see that! She just made a face at me! Give me a second to give
her a good talking to.
Katie stomps off in the direction of where the girl is sitting. Samantha
and Alex look over at Katie in disbelief as she stands talking to the girl.
SAMANTHA
We’ve been here not even 5 minutes and Katie’s already starting trouble.
(Very amused)
Oh boy, I can already tell that tonight’s going to be one hell of a long
night.
ALEX
I’ll just leave you to watch Katie start some trouble while I go and try to

Alex walks up to Catherine, who is talking to some other people.
ALEX
Excuse me? Where’s your bathroom?
CATHERINE
Upstairs, to the right...
Alex thanks Catherine and heads up the stairs and goes to the bathroom.
Alex looks at herself in the mirror fixes her hair a little and then takes
some lip balm out of her pocket/purse and begins to put it on. Suddenly
there is a knock on the bathroom door. Alex gets herself together and opens
the door. Justin is standing by the doorway looking
rather upset.
ALEX
(Confused)
Uh huh? Can I help you?
JUSTIN
After all this time you decide to pretend you never met me?
ALEX
Well, what was I supposed to do? I just don't want to be reminded of
anything that happened in the past...I just want to forget about you.
JUSTIN
Look, I'm sorry I ruined your friendship with Vicky, I really am...
ALEX
Sorry, eh? Ya sure...you apologize when she's gone, but before when she was
alive you didn't give a damn about me.
Alex has a flashback.
FLASHBACK: OUTSIDE- AFTERNOON
Alex is walking outside on a nice sunny day. She notices Justin who is
playing basketball with a friend of his. She walks up to him and tries to
make conversation and see how he's doing.
ALEX
Hey Justin...so, how've you been?
JUSTIN
Alright.
Justin answers and turns away, ignoring Alex.
MATT
Who's that?
JUSTIN
Uhh, just some girl...
MATT
Just? Seemed like she knew you pretty well.
JUSTIN
Ya well…
(Pause)
You going to play or what?
MATT
Alright man, just chill.
Alex feels angry and she walks away quickly without looking back. End of
flashback. Camera returns to scene.
INSIDE CATHERINE'S HOUSE- NIGHT
Alex is still talking to Justin.
ALEX
Well, if I think back on all the times I tried to talk to you after that
whole incident...you ignored me and treated me so much worse than I ever
treated you.
JUSTIN
Alright, maybe I was a bit harsh but hey, weren't we all in a weird state of
mind after all that?
ALEX
What does it matter? Why would you waste your time now talking to me about
the past, which I don't care about, when you have never paid attention to me
before?!
JUSTIN
Look, I just don’t want there to be any conflict between us anymore.
ALEX
(Sarcastic)
You don't want any conflict?! How about you open your eyes and see what has
been between us ever since you had to start dating Vicky!
JUSTIN
You know what?! I don't even understand why you made such a big deal over
Vicky and I...I mean it's not like WE were ever going to go out anyway.
Katie rushes up to Alex.
KATIE
(Excited)
Alex! Where’ve you been?! You missed the big scene I made. Remember the
girl
Who spilled her drink all over you? I soooo told her off!
Katie finishes speaking long enough to notice that there is tension between
Justin and Alex at the moment. Katie backs away slightly.
KATIE
(Apologetic)
That was so stupid of me…I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I had just run into a
heated
Conversation. I’ll just leave you two to talk for now…
Katie walks away. Alex and Justin continue the conversation as though Katie
hadn’t interrupted.
ALEX
Anyway, you still don't seem to be getting the point I'm trying to put out
for you. Vicky lied to me...and she had no reason to. I was her best friend
and if she had told me in the first place, things might've not turned out
the way they did.
JUSTIN
You know what I think it was all about? I think that you were just jealous
of what she could have and what you couldn’t have...
ALEX
(Obviously very angry)
Jealous?! What I wasn't...fine, you know I was...but for no good reason to
be. I didn't realize what a jerk you were until it was too late. If you
hadn’t come into the picture, we wouldn’t have had that stupid fight and
maybe she would still be here!
JUSTIN
What?! You're blaming this on me? Maybe if you weren't such a selfish
bitch...
ALEX
(Narrows her eyes in fury)
...No! Maybe if you had been with her all night...
JUSTIN
(Is speechless)
ALEX
(Gives up)
You know what? I really could care less about you or anything else right
now. Plus, I’ve said what I wanted to say.
Justin is still speechless and is obviously stuck by her words. Alex pushes
past him quickly and goes to the front door to get her shoes on. Alex gets
her shoes on and leaves out the door. Alyssa and Alex bump into each other
outside the door.
ALYSSA
(Confused)
Hey hey, what's going on? The party can't be boring just yet, I'm just
getting here!
Alyssa sees that Alex is upset and is serious now.
ALYSSA
Alex? What’s wrong?
ALEX
Let's just say that Justin and I just had a pretty meaningful chat in
there...
ALYSSA
Wha? Justin's here? I didn't think he’d be here. I’m sorry, I didn’t
know.
ALEX
I know, it’s okay. I just didn’t really need him to pop into my life right
now.
ALYSSA
So, you want to go talk about it somewhere or something? Because I doubt
you want to go back in there right now.
ALEX
No, that's alright...I'll be fine. I want to go to bed and just sleep
everything away.
ALYSSA
Are you sure?
ALEX
(Smiles meekly)
Ya, I'm positive. Just go in there and have fun. But don't mingle with too
many people, okay? Oh, ya and can you tell Katie and Sam I’m sorry I had to
leave so early?
ALYSSA
Yah...but call me tomorrow, alright?
ALEX
Ya sure. See ya.
Alyssa walks away and goes into the house, while Alex stands for a moment
and thinks. Camera fades.
21 mins
INSIDE ALEX’S HOUSE-NIGHT
Alex, who had just come from the party, comes into the house, takes off her
jacket and her shoes, and then goes into the living room. She sits on the
couch, turns on the TV and sits there changing channels for a few seconds
until she gets comfortable and shuts her eyes.
Dream mode: Alex is awoken by a tapping noise. She opens her eyes and lies
still to listen. The tapping noise seems to be coming from the back door,
which has its curtains close. Alex slowly sits up and moves towards the
back door. Tapping continues. When Alex finally comes to the back door she
waits a moment, then tears open the curtains.
Nothing is there.
Suddenly there is another loud tapping behind her.
Alex wakes up abruptly. She sits up for a moment, listens for the tapping,
which has stopped, and then gets up and begins walking toward the stairs in
the entrance way. Just as she is passing the door, there is a noise that
sounds like someone is trying to get inside coming from the door. Alex, who
is obviously very scared, goes to the front door and notices that the door
is being unlocked. She puts her hand on the doorknob and waits a second.
All of a sudden the door swings open. Alex can’t quite see who it is who is
standing in the dark, so she attempts to shut the door on them. The person
cries out in surprise.
SAMANTHA
(Surprised)
Hey! Don’t worry it’s just us! We tried knocking and ringing the bell, but
I guess
You didn’t hear that, eh?
ALEX
Sorry, I must’ve fallen asleep. Who’s us?
Alex opens the door a little more and sees Matt, who is standing there with
his hands in his pockets.
MATT
Uhh, hey Alex…
SAMANTHA
Ya, we just came by to see how you were doing and if you got home okay.
Alyssa
Asked us to do that one favour for her, so ya, here we are.
ALEX
(Relieved)
Oh, that’s nice of you. Ya, I got home fine. But you guys kind of scared
me by
Coming into my house like that.
(Pause)
Speaking of which…how did you get the key to my house?
SAMANTHA
Oh, the key? Alyssa had it. We asked her that question too, and she said
that
She’s had it for a while now…that she got it from Vicky or something.
ALEX
(Slightly confused)
She got it from Vicky? Oh…well, okay it was really nice of you guys to
come
Check on me and everything, but I’m fine now. I was actually just about to
go

MATT
Well, I guess we’ll have to let you go and sleep then.
ALEX
(Smiles)
That’d be nice, thanks for being so thoughtful.
MATT
Okay, here’s the key.
Matt hands the key to Alex. Samantha and Matt say goodbye and leave. Alex
shuts the door, locks it, then just looks at the key in her hand for a
moment. She shakes her head, puts the key down somewhere and then goes
upstairs.
OUTSIDE VICKY'S HOUSE- AFTERNOON
Alex is walking up the driveway to Vicky's house. Alex reaches the door and
knocks then waits a minute. She gets impatient and knocks again. She tries
the door, and it's open. Alex steps into the house.
ALEX
Vicky? Oh, come on! It’s like past lunch, there’s no way that you can still
be sleeping!
Alex slowly mounts the stairs.
ALEX
Vic! Can you hurry up and get your butt down here! We’re supposed to meet up
with…
(Trails off)
Alex doesn't get to finish her count down because she spots marks of blood
near the top of the stairs. Alex wakes up (or so she thinks). Alex lying
awake thinking about the dream she just had, when she hears a noise coming
from downstairs.
INT. AT FOOT OF STAIRS-NIGHT
Alex is standing at the foot of the staircase trying to listen for any
noises. She begins to walk through the dark living room to the backdoor.
ALEX
(nervous)
Deja vu?
(Continues)
Come on Connor, this isn't funny...
She opens the backdoor and breathes in the fresh night air.
ALEX
Connor....seriousl-(cut off)
Someone grabs her from behind and covers her mouth. She struggles to get
free. Alex finally gets free and then runs up the stairs to her room. She
shuts the door and leans in front of it. She slowly sinks to the floor.
She reaches for the phone. At that moment, the door swings open and hits
her over. Alex passes out.
INT. ALEX'S ROOM-MORNING
Alex wakes up in her room. She is still lying on the floor near her door.
Suddenly the doorbell rings. Alex ignores the doorbell, continuing to lie
on the floor. A few seconds later, Alex's sibling comes into her room.
SIBLING
Alex? You awake? Connor's at the door...
Alex's sibling sees her lying on the floor.
SIBLING
(confused)
What are you doing on the floor?
Alex sits up slowly, and rubs her head where she was hit. She looks around
confused and then to her sibling.
ALEX
(In shock still)
What?
She gets up and notices that there's writing scrawled out in black on her
door. She stares at it in shock. It reads: "open your eyes." Alex points
nervously at the writing on the wall.
ALEX
You see that, right?
Alex's sibling looks at the wall to where Alex is pointing. Sibling looks
at the writing on the wall in disgust and then back to Alex.
SIBLING
What are you writing on your wall for? You'd better wash it off before mum
and dad get home...
(continuing)
Are you going to talk to Connor or what?
Alex's brother/sister leaves the room and shuts her bedroom door. Alex goes
down to answer the door. Camera focuses on the first floor where Alex is
about to open the door. Alex opens the front door and sees Connor standing
there.
CONNOR
Well, good morning, sleepy head...it's about time you got up.
ALEX
What? I didn't think it was late at all. What time is it anyway?
CONNOR
It's 11:30 and it's my duty to wake you up when you sleep in late. Besides,
I called like 5 times and each time your brother/sister said that you were
STILL sleeping.
ALEX
What? If you called that many times, I'm sure I would've heard it...
(Shrugs and continues)
Anyway, so...why did you REALLY wake me up this early? More girl troubles?
CONNOR
Umm, no, not really. But I did hear that Justin tried to talk to you...
ALEX
How'd you know that?
CONNOR
Oh, umm...Alyssa told me last night when I stopped by to get my sweater
from Catherine.
ALEX
Ya...it was really weird because he's never tried to talk to me ever, and
then all of a sudden he wanted to.
CONNOR
So? What'd he talk about...I mean, if you don't mind me asking...
ALEX
Nah, it's alright. Well, he pretty much came to talk to me just because I
had pretended that I didn't know him when Catherine was introducing me to
everyone. It’s actually kind of funny. It’s like he’s allowed to ignore me,
but if anyone else does it to him…it’s not allowed.
CONNOR
Ya well, the guy's a loser anyway. Actually, he has always been an idiot.
I still remember how he was when Vicky was around.
ALEX
Ya, and he was apologizing about how he ruined my friendship with
Vicky...geez, I think his apology was a little too late, don't you think so?
CONNOR
Seriously. But is that all he wanted to talk to you about?
ALEX
No, he was acting like a friggin' retard and ya, you know…I can’t even
remember anymore. I was just so mad at him and didn’t really want to talk
to him.
CONNOR
Ya, I can understand that. Well, I think that he shouldn't have been such a
jerk to you in the first place. Umm, do you mind if I ask you something?
ALEX
No, why would I?
CONNOR
Are you kind of bothered by all the stuff that Justin said to you? I mean,
from what I heard, you were pretty pissed off.
ALEX
Ya know what? It doesn't really bother me when I don't think about it and
uhh... I just realized that I'm standing outside in my pajamas. You want to
come in for a few minutes?
CONNOR
Sure.
Alex opens the front door and they go into the house. Camera focuses on
inside Alex's house. Alex and Connor go inside somewhere to sit down.
ALEX
Anyway, I almost forgot about another thing Justin said to me...I bet you
can't guess what he said.
CONNOR
(Shrugs)
I don’t know, what?
ALEX
Well...at one point when we were both really pissed off, he said that I was
probably just jealous of Vicky or something like that.
CONNOR
(Glances over at Alex)
That’s so stupid! Why would you be jealous of Vicky?
ALEX
Ya, well…I actually was kind of jealous of her at some point in time. She
had everything she could possibly ask for, including Justin.
CONNOR
What? Alex! There is absolutely no reason why you should've been jealous of
her...trust me. She was such a snob to everyone who wasn’t popular and she
never cared about anyone’s feelings but her own.
Alex looks over at Connor in disbelief.
ALEX
Geez, it sounds like you don't like Vicky very much.
CONNOR
Hey, hey...it's not that I didn't like her...it's just that she...
ALEX
No...you know, it makes sense when I think about it now. For one thing, you
never wanted to hang around us when she was there, and every time she
stopped by, you had to go for some reason.
(Turns to Connor)
Am I right?
CONNOR
(Sighs)
Okay, so I didn't like her...you feel better now that I said it?
ALEX
Yes, yes I do feel better. I don't want you to keep anything from me.
Remember? You can tell me anything.
CONNOR
I know...I know...but I just never wanted to tell you because of what
happened. I thought that it would hurt you to hear about her again.
There is an awkward silence for a moment.
ALEX
Uhh, I didn’t know if I should tell you cuz I don’t want you to think I’m
crazy or something , but something really weird happened last night.
CONNOR
What are you talking about?
Alex fidgets in her seat as she continues.
ALEX
I don’t know, all I can remember is that I woke up and heard something down
here. So, I came down and saw no one and I wanted to get some fresh
air...so, I opened the back door. Then all of a sudden someone grabbed me
from behind. I ran upstairs and then tried to reach for the phone. I guess
the door must’ve hit me in the head, because next thing I know it’s today,
and I’m lying on the floor....and...
CONNOR
What!?
(Concerned)
Are you okay?
(Confused)
....and?
ALEX
(Embarrassed)
Oh, nothing...that's it. I'm fine though...yah think I should tell the
police or something?
CONNOR
What? Why would you do that?
ALEX
(Confused)
Why wouldn’t I? Someone broke into my house last night and scared the shit
out of me! What if whoever it was is going to come back again?
CONNOR
You do know that if you don’t have any solid evidence that someone was in
here last night…they won’t do anything about it. They might even think
you’re making it up…
ALEX
(Suspicious)
Still! I don’t want to risk that happening again…
(pause)
Do you think I’m making it up?
CONNOR
No, I’m just saying that the police need proof to even think about doing
anything

(Sighs)

ALEX
Yah, okay. I just hope it doesn’t get to the point where we have to do

Alex shifts in her seat and stretches.

Alex’s sibling comes into the room and makes a couple comments.

games?!
SIBLING
I think I just might.
Alex’s sibling leaves the scene.
CONNOR
Anyway, where was I? Oh, ya…you seem to be having dreams a lot lately, eh?
ALEX
Yah…ever since I had that dream about the fight Vic and I had…you know? The
One I said I hadn’t had for a long time?
CONNOR
(Nods)
Oh, ya…but you have other dreams?
ALEX
Yah, I keep having weird dreams. But it doesn’t matter, I’m sure they’ll
pass.
CONNOR
Ah well, maybe you had too much excitement last night. You should probably
get some sleep now.
ALEX
Ya, but it's getting late and you're over now, so I can't really sleep much
longer.
CONNOR
Well, you should get a little more sleep anyway. Don't worry, I got to go
anyway...
ALEX
Oh, okay...where you off to now?
CONNOR
Uhh, well...nowhere really. I just want you to get some more sleep so that
you can be able to stay awake all week.
Connor smiles at Alex as she shuffles around.
ALEX
Wow, thanks. I don't know anyone who cares about how much sleep I get.
Okay, here's the deal. I'll get some more sleep if you promise to call me
later or come see me tomorrow.
Connor gets up and heads to the door. Alex stands up but doesn't go to the
door, instead she stand in the entrance of the living room.
CONNOR
Sure, no problem. Just get some sleep now, okay? And please, be careful.
ALEX
Thanks Connor.
Connor opens the door and steps out.
CONNOR
Bye.
Alex shuts the door and goes to the couch in the living room. Just as she
is going to get comfortable on the couch, the telephone rings. Alex picks up
the portable phone near her and answers it.
ALEX
(Slightly annoyed)
Hello? Oh, hello Alyssa…hush, I was actually just about to go back to
sleep…I’m still tired.
(Continues)
What? Who told you that?
(Continues)
I don’t know…but I don’t remember Justin ever telling me anything like
that…
(Continues)
Yaw…okay, I’ll phone you later when I wake up, alright? Bye.
Alex hangs up the phone and sits down on the couch. She seems to be
thinking about the conversation with Alyssa. She sighs and then lies down
on the couch. Camera fades.
EXT. OUTSIDE-NIGHT
Vicky is walking down the street in the dark. She walks for a few seconds
then hears a noise behind her that sound like footsteps in the distance.
She turns around and sees no one in the darkness. She continues walking and
then a few seconds later, is tapped on the shoulder. Vicky turns around and
sees Justin.
JUSTIN
What are you doing walking outside by yourself?! It’s late out…
VICTORIA
What do you care? You didn’t seem to care about me back at the party.
Victoria turns around and continues to walk home. Justin paces himself with
her strides and talks to her.
JUSTIN
Vicky! What are you talking about?
VICTORIA
What do you mean, what am I talking about? I’m sure you know perfectly
well, what I’m talking about.
Justin is speechless. Victoria continues.
VICTORIA
Or maybe you forgot already why I’m pissed off at you. Let me refresh your
memory…
(Continues)
Well, from what I can remember…I left to go to the bathroom and came back to
you flirting with some stupid girl. Oh, and another time, I left to talk to
someone for 2 minutes and then the next thing I know, you’re all over some
other girl.
JUSTIN
What?! When did that happen? I don't remember being all over some girl! And
if it did even happen I'm sorry...I had a few too many drinks.
VICTORIA
Nice excuse there. You think that excuse would work on me?! Who the hell do
you think I am?!
JUSTIN
...okay, look. I don't want to fight anymore. I'm really sorry for
anything that I've done tonight that might've made you upset.
VICTORIA
Oh, well...if you want to apologize you can apologize to me tomorrow when I

JUSTIN

Victoria walks away quickly, ignoring Justin's question. Victoria hurries
away, while Justin stops walking and stands for a moment by himself before
he utters a swear word and stomps off in a different direction.
EXT. VICTORIA'S HOUSE-NIGHT
Victoria is walking up to her house, and is on her cell phone with someone.
While speaking to the person on her cell phone, she walks up to her house,
unlocks the front door, and then enters her house.
VICTORIA
(Very angry)
Can you believe it, though?! It's like he didn't even care what the hell
he was doing until I got pissed off at him.
(Pause; then continues)
I hate it when guys think they can do whatever they want, and get away with
it. I hate guys so much! Why
do they have to be so stupid?!
INT. VICTORIA'S HOUSE-NIGHT
Victoria enters her house and is still talking on her cell phone. She is
taking off her shoes, and jacket.
VICTORIA
Anyway, I'm at home now. Do you want me to phone you in a few mins? I'm
just going to go and get changed.
(Pauses; then continues)
Alright, I'll phone you in a few minutes, okay? Bye.
Victoria ends the phone call and then starts upstairs to her room. Victoria
is muttering something’s to herself as she goes upstairs to her room.
VICTORIA
(Muttering to herself)

(Imitates what he said)
I can't remember doing that...bla, bla...that's bull...
INT. VICTORIA'S ROOM
Victoria is in her room going through her drawers looking for clothes, and
pulling out some articles of clothing. She is still pissed off and is
slamming her drawers shut etc. She finally gathers a bunch of clothes and
is heading for the bathroom. Camera follows Victoria as she walks down the
hall.
Camera changes views to KILLER'S POV. The killer is peeking around corners
in a dark room near the bathroom, trying to get closer to Victoria. Killer
sees Victoria in the bathroom, looking in the mirror. Victoria bends over
to wash her face. Killer is about to move in, when the doorbell rings.
Killer moves back into the shadows.
Normal POV. Victoria grabs a towel and dries her face. She then goes to
answer the door.
Victoria goes to the door and answers it. Justin is standing there.
VICTORIA
(Annoyed)
Didn't I say that you could apologize TOMORROW...not tonight?
JUSTIN
I'm so sorry...I swear I am.
VICTORIA
Tomorrow please? Thank you.
Victoria is about to shut the door in Justin's face. Just before the door
shuts, Justin stops it and adds in one last comment.
JUSTIN
Fine, you know what? Right now, I really couldn’t care less about you
either.
VICTORIA
Alright, GOODBYE.
Victoria shuts the front door.
INT. BATHROOM-NIGHT
Victoria is about to clean her face again.
VICTORIA
Now, where was I? Oh...ya...
KILLER'S POV. Victoria is cleaning her face. Killer walks up to Victoria
and turns off the light switch. Victoria utters a surprised cry and reaches
for the towel. The killer is about to strike.
INT. OUTSIDE BATHROOM-NIGHT
Camera shows floor-level & side view of bathroom door, so you can't see
inside the bathroom. Victoria cries out. There is a loud ‘thud’, which can
be heard, then silence. Killer walks out of bathroom and is dragging
Victoria. Camera fades.
EXT. OUTSIDE- NEXT AFTERNOON
Samantha and Alyssa are walking.
ALYSSA
Everyone is still going over to your house tonight, right?
SAMANTHA
As far as I know...yah.
ALYSSA
Alright, good. I just want to make sure that my plans are for sure.
Otherwise, I

ALYSSA
(Smiling)

Well, if you feel you must know...I now like Connor and I've been trying to
get him to go out with me.

Okay, so has he said yes? Or not?!
ALYSSA
I'm getting to that! Hold on a second...I'm trying to make it sound good.
(Pause)
Anyway, I asked him again a few days ago and he finally gave in! I knew he

(Excited)
Wow, that's great!? So, when did you guys go out?
ALYSSA
Actually, we went to see a movie yesterday. It was so awesome being there
with him. I even got a goodnight kiss...and it was amazing!

I'm so happy for you!!! Wow, wait until everyone hears about you two.
ALYSSA
Ya, but remember...don't tell anyone. Not even anyone who's going to be
there tonight.
EXT. JUSTIN'S HOUSE-EVENING
Alex knocks on Justin's door and waits for him to answer. Justin answers
the door a few seconds later.
JUSTIN
(Not too thrilled)
Oh? Hey...
ALEX
Justin? I just need to ask you something.
JUSTIN
Umm, sure...what's up?
ALEX
You never told me that you and Vicky had a big fight before ya...and so, why
wouldn't you tell me that?
JUSTIN
(Looks around)
Why would I?! If I had told anyone, you all would've thought that I like
hurt her or something...
ALEX
What?! Not necessarily. If you had told us, we wouldn't have thought
that...but now that you are trying to hide the fact that you guys had a

JUSTIN
I'm not trying to hide it! I just don't want people to accuse me!
ALEX
Alright, calm down. No one’s out to accuse you for something like that. I'm
sorry...I just wanted to ask you if it was true, that's all.
JUSTIN
Okay. But don't think that I did it, because I didn't. I would've never
ever hurt her anyway...I really liked her.
ALEX
(Looks at the ground)
Ya, I'm sure you did. I miss her too. I just really wish that we hadn't
had such a dumb fight. It was so pointless.
JUSTIN
Ya well...I'm pretty sure that we'd all take back something in the past, if
we could.
ALEX
I sure would. But ya, I just wanted to ask you that one thing and I have to
go home and start dinner soon...so, I guess I'll see you later then?
JUSTIN
Of course.
(Smiling meekly)
Hey…Alex?
Alex turns around and looks at Justin in curiosity.
JUSTIN
(Hesitant)
I’m really uhh…glad that we’re not on such bad terms anymore.
ALEX
(Smiles)
Yah, me too.
Alex turns from Justin and leaves.
INT. SAMANTHA'S HOUSE-NIGHT
Alyssa, Samantha, Katie, and Alex are all lying on sleeping bags in Sam's
living room, while watching a movie/TV. The lights are out and they are all
watching the TV screen. Alex is almost falling asleep.
Katie
You know what? This is a dumb movie...no offence to anyone who actually
likes it.
SAMANTHA
None taken. It does kind of suck.
Alex is almost asleep when Alex looks over to the window and sees Victoria's
ghostly figure staring back at her. Alex stares in fright for a moment,
before she is interrupted by Katie.
KATIE
Hey...Alex! Alex? You asleep already?
ALEX
(Lifts her head up)
Umm, no, not yet. Getting there.
KATIE
What a loser! Stay up longer! You're always the first to fall asleep.
SAMANTHA
Oh, well...let her sleep if she wants to.
Alex lies her head down again, and starts to fall asleep again. Camera
fades.
INT. VICTORIA'S HOUSE
Alex is walking up the stairs in Victoria's house. Alex passes the blood
stained walls and continues up the stairs. She is more used to the dream
because she's had it before. Alex continues up the stairs until she gets to
the top of the stairs, where there is a trail of blood along with
fingerprints on the walls. Alex looks at the mess before entering Victoria's
room. Alex looks around the room and tears begin to form in her eyes from
the memories. Alex walks in front of the mirror, which shows her own
reflection. Alex is then drawn to the mirror, so she looks into it.
Suddenly, in the mirror, Victoria's ghostly figure appears beside Alex, and
is holding a bloodied knife in her hand. The ghost is slowly raising the
knife and seems to be handing it to Alex. Alex gasps and turns quickly to
see no one beside her. Alex hears voices in the background.
INT. SAMANTHA'S HOUSE-NIGHT
Everyone is sitting up talking, while Alex is still lying down, half asleep.
KATIE
We're doing a lot better now though. We talked for so long last night and
we're doing so much better.
SAMANTHA
See? I told you that talking to him, would help things out. Talking about
relationships...I think that Alyssa's love life is pretty interesting right
about now.
ALYSSA
(Shakes her head)
Sam! I told you not to bring that up, remember?
Alyssa looks nervously over at Alex who still seems like she's sleeping.
Alyssa continues quietly. Camera then shows Alex's face. Alex is actually
wide-awake and just pretending not to be.
ALYSSA
Well, now that you've brought it up, I suppose I have to tell Katie. But I'm
not going to talk too loud in case Alex wakes up.
KATIE
(Confused)
Why would it matter if Alex was awake or not?
ALYSSA
Nothing...I just didn't want to tell anybody, because I wanted it to be a
surprise. But now that Katie knows that something’s up, I might as well
tell her. But I just want to keep the people who know to a minimum.
SAMANTHA
(Shrugs)
I guess that makes sense. Anyway, tell her! Come on...
ALYSSA
(Looks over at Alex)
Alright, well...I really like Connor. Wait...you know who Connor is,
right?
KATIE
You're talking about Connor Rhodes, right?
ALYSSA
Yup, that's him. So, I like him, a lot, and we just went out to the movies
yesterday. It was so cool.
KATIE
He's nice, eh?
ALYSSA
Oh ya...I like him so much. Honestly though, it took awhile to actually get
a date going. I don’t know, he just seemed like he didn't want to get
involved.
SAMANTHA
But, he ended up going out with her anyway, and he gave her a goodnight
kiss!
ALYSSA
Like I told Sam, there was no way that he would've been able to resist the
Yorke charm.
Alex is listening to all the conversation. Alex is very upset, and it looks
like she's going to cry.
KATIE
So, do you think that you guys'll end up going out? Or is it just a dating
scene?
ALYSSA
I can totally see him going out with me. And I would love to go out with
him, because he's like one of the nicest guys I have ever known.
Alex lifts her head up and turns around. She has an upsetting look on her
face, as she turns to face everyone.
KATIE
(Is surprised)
Hey! Well, I guess now that Alex is awake, you can tell her the whole
story!
Alyssa looks very uncomfortable as Alex just sits quietly and stares at her.
ALEX
No need to tell me the story...I heard it all.
ALYSSA
(Nervously)
Oh...
ALEX
It was nice considering she left out one thing...
SAMANTHA
(Confused)
What did she leave out? And how could you possibly know what she left out,
if she never told you any of this before?
ALEX
Trust me. She forgot to add in the part about how she knew I liked Connor.
Right, Alyssa? You've always known that I liked him. Everybody used to
know it. Victoria did...
ALYSSA
Oh god…don’t go psycho on me now…
ALEX
What did you say?! You think I’m acting psycho?! How can you say that to
me
When you are the one being a totally insensitive!
ALYSSA
I didn't know that you STILL liked him! How would I know you still did?
It's been so long since you mentioned anything about any guys...so...how was
I supposed to know?
ALEX
You know what? It doesn't matter. I'm sick and tired of my FRIENDS going
after the guys that I like and always ending up with them. It's just my
luck that you had to go for Connor, eh?
ALYSSA
(Getting frustrated)
You always seem to expect people to know exactly what you're thinking! But
you know what?! We can't tell what you're thinking...we never could and
STILL can't!
ALEX
Whatever, I told you, it doesn't matter. I just need better friends.
ALYSSA
No, you know what? If you like Connor so much, then why the hell don't you
do something about it?! It's just like with Vicky--
ALEX
(Interrupts)
You just had to mention Vicky again didn't you? Some people can never keep
their mouths shut! And some people can't go after their own guy!
Alex gets up and goes to the front door. She gets on her jacket and shoes
and then opens the door to leave. Alex leaves.
SAMANTHA
(Shocked)
What was that about?
Camera focuses on Alyssa.
EXT. SAM'S HOUSE-NIGHT
Alex walks over to her car and opens the door. She gets in the car and
starts the engine. Alex is extremely upset. She has tears streaming down
her face. Camera shows Alex driving. The camera then shows the rear-view
mirror, which Alex keeps looking into. Alex checks mirror
once...everything's normal; Alex checks a second time...everything's normal;
Alex checks for the last time and sees Victoria's ghost in the mirror. Alex
looks into the mirror again quickly, and still sees the ghost. In rear-view
mirror, Alex sees the ghost reaching for her. She slams on the breaks.
Then turns around in her seat and looks...no one's there. Camera shows the
look of terror and confusion on Alex’s face.
INT. ALEX'S HOUSE-NEXT MORNING
Alex is sitting in her living room watching TV, when the doorbell rings.
Alex goes and answers the door. Connor is standing there looking upset.
CONNOR
How've you been doing?
ALEX
(Monotone)
What do you think?
CONNOR
I uhh, heard what happened at Sam's house last night...I heard you were
pretty upset over what Alyssa said.
ALEX
Ya, actually I was. So, is that the whole truth? That you went out with
Alyssa and then kissed her?
(Sarcasm)
Well, at least you guys are happy…
Connor shifts nervously around, and looks at the ground.
ALEX
(Upset)
I don’t get it! Why does this always happen to me! Either I have really
bad
Friends, or I have extremely bad luck.
CONNOR
I’m sorry it always seems to end up that way…but you know I wouldn’t do
It on purpose to hurt you.
ALEX
Ya…you know, I’m sure you didn’t…but it is just a shame to see it always
Happening to me.
CONNOR
Well…I don’t know what to say besides, I’m sorry and I never meant to--
ALEX
(Interrupts)
I always kind of had this feeling that you liked me or something...but I
guess that was wrong. because obviously, you didn't.
CONNOR
(Looks at Alex)
Alex, that's not it...you’re so right. I did like you...a lot. But I've
liked you for so long now, and it's like you never really saw me as anything
besides you're friend.
ALEX
(Is sad now)
I do think of you as more than a friend! But I just didn't realize it until
last night, when there was the chance that I might've lost you...
CONNOR
I'm sorry you had to only realize it last night. I was kind of hoping that
you'd figure that out a little sooner than now.
ALEX
Why does it matter though? I like you and I've admitted it...
CONNOR
But...the thing is that I've moved on. I liked you so much before, but now
I'm giving someone else a chance...
Alex is getting teary eyed, but says nothing.
CONNOR
You're an amazing girl...you really are. But I need to give someone else a
chance.
ALEX
(Monotonously)
It's okay...it's alright. I totally understand...I'll just see you later,
okay?
Alex shuts the front door and then runs up to her room and jumps into her
bed. Alex is crying.
INT. ALYSSA'S HOUSE-NIGHT
>From KILLER'S POV. Killer is walking up the stairs in Alyssa's house, with
a knife in hand. Slowly but surely, the killer finally gets upstairs and
stops at Alyssa's doorway. Killer pushes open the door and goes in. Killer
is hovering above Alyssa's sleeping form. Killer is about to strike.
INT. ALYSSA'S ROOM-NIGHT
Alex wakes up from sleepwalking. Alex sees how she is standing above Alyssa
and about to hurt or kill her. The room begins to sway, and Alex begins to
get dizzy. She covers her face to push away dizziness. As soon as Alex
removes her hands from her face she sees the walls are covered with one
word, which is scrawled out everywhere: “You”. Suddenly Victoria’s deathly
figure appears beside Alex, who is so afraid and confused. Alex backs away
slowly.
Flashbacks occur:
INT. ALEX'S HOUSE-NIGHT
Alex is about to shut backdoor when someone grabs her from behind and covers
her mouth. She struggles to get free. Alex finally gets free and then runs
up the stairs to her room. She shuts the door and leans in front of it.
She slowly sinks to the floor. She reaches for the phone. At that moment,
the door swings open and hits her over. Alex passes out. (During all
this-Camera can see that no one was after here...she imagined it all)
INT. ALEX'S ROOM-NIGHT
Alex is lying unconscious on her bedroom floor. She gets up, seeming to
still be asleep, and writes the message on her door.
INT. VICTORIA'S HOUSE-NIGHT
Whole Killing of Victoria is seen.
Flashbacks end here.
INT. ALYSSA'S ROOM-NIGHT
Alex backs up into the wall, which awakes Alyssa. Alex sinks to the floor,
leaning against the wall as well. Alex looks at the knife in her hand as
all the repressed memories flood back into her mind. Feelings of guilt and
anguish take over her. She realizes what she has to do. She lifts the knife
for all to see and then cuts her wrists. All is becoming hazy around her.
Alyssa is talking/screaming. Camera fades.
INT. INSANE ASYLUM
Alex opens her eyes and sees that she is in a bare room. She is in the
insane asylum, lying in a bed. She hears the voices of the doctors clearly
from outside the room, which she could remember hearing a couple months
before.
DOCTOR 1
Well, from the evidence we managed to get from her friends, it seems as
though
She had tried too hard to repress the emotions that haunted her since she
Committed the murder a year or so ago.
DR ASHBURY
Yes, and so she ended up with a conscious overload because she had too many
Repressed emotions and to deal with that…her mind began playing tricks on
her.
DOCTOR 1
And so that’s why she didn’t know what was going on…didn’t she think that
Someone was actually after her?
DR ASHBURY
She did. And she had no idea that it was the repressed guilt and such,
that was
Madly trying to escape while she was asleep, which therefore, made her do
all
Those acts of craziness.
DOCTOR 1
Well, I guess this time you were wrong to have let her leave the
institution so
Soon.
DR ASHBURY
She was well, at the time. Being around people she remembered in the past
must
Have pushed her into relapsing.
DOCTOR 1
Yes, I suppose so.
DR ASHBURY
The mind is a complicated thing…
Alex breathes a sigh of relief, thinking that it might've been just a dream.
She then sits up and looks into mirror, which has writing on it. Writing
says: "Which is reality?"
Camera shuts off.
