DUALITY
An Original Screenplay
By Jack McKever
1st Draft - Revised
5/25/03 - ??/??/??
EXT. BIG CITY
The sun is rising. A forest of skyscrapers is but a
silhouette to the light of morning. As the sun rises
higher in the sky, the city can be seen. A city of the
near future, the buildings taller, the cars more
streamlined, more people on the sidewalks.
INT. BUILDING - LOBBY
Inside the main lobby of a bustling financial building, a
man walks through the revolving doors, a suspicious man,
in a long, dark trenchcoat carrying a briefcase. We do
not see his face. He walks past the main desk and
towards the elevators.
A security guard casts a look of suspicion at the man as
the doors close, and gets on his radio...
EXT. STREET
In the street, there is a motorcade. An armored car,
surrounded by several police cruisers and a helicopter.
On the side of the car there is a logo: Planetron, Inc.
And just down the street from this, there is a black van
parked at the side of the road.
INT. BLACK VAN
There are a couple of computer systems set up inside,
with several monitors showing video of what's going on
outside. They are all focused on the motorcade. There
are three people in the van. One, an old, weathered
asian man, SAN JO. JEN, a pretty young girl in her mid-
twenties, and CHARLIE, the techie operating all the
computers. A voice comes over his headset.
VOICE (V.O.)
I'm in the building.
CHARLIE
It's about time, Zavier. You have
three minutes.
INT. BUILDING - 12TH FLOOR
The elevator opens at the 12th floor, no one gets off but
the man in the trenchcoat, Zavier. He walks through the
emtpy hallways untill he finds where he needs to go, a
bridge.
INT. BRIDGE
This is an inter-building bridge, built over the street
to connect two tall buildings with eachother. It's
enclosed, with windows all around. He speaks into a cell
phone.
INT. VAN
His voice comes over the radio.
ZAVIER (V.O.)
I'm in the tube.
CHARLIE
Hurry up, man, two minutes.
INT. BRIDGE
The man in the trenchcoat, Zavier, drops his briefcase
and takes off his trenchcoat. He has some militaristic
black combat gear under it.
ZAVIER
Two minutes two seconds.
He opens his briefcase, revealing a small arsenal inside,
which he puts on, and a bunjee cord, which he attaches to
himself. As he does these things, he speaks:
ZAVIER
Charlie, I think security's onto me.
INT. VAN
Charlie gets busy on his comptuers.
CHARLIE
I'm looking into it.
He pulls up several video feeds from several security
cameras inside the building and examines them.
CHARLIE
Nothin -- wait...
He sees a sqad of five police officers, equipped like a
SWAT team, get in an elevator.
INT. BRIDGE
The mysterious Zavier hooks the bunjee cord onto a
handrail and puts a small lump of plastic explosives on
the plexiglass window.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
I'm showing about five guys headed your
way. I'm gonna lock you down.
Zavier looks at either end of the empty tube, as the
heavy duty bulkhead doors close and lock on either side.
ZAVIER
Thank you.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Forty seconds.
ZAVIER
Forty two.
He steps as far away from the window as he possibly can.
ZAVIER
In position.
INT. VAN
The atmosphere is thick.
CHARLIE
Good luck.
ZAVIER (V.O.)
Hey, Jen, I love you.
JEN
I love you, too. Don't die.
CHARLIE
He's not even gonna break a sweat.
EXT. STREET
The motorcade is drawing nearer. The helicopter is
keeping lookout.
INT. HELICOPTER
It flies near the bridge, and the pilot sees Zavier
inside, as he's wrapping a piece of black fabric around
his head, obscuring our view of his face.
PILOT
Alert! Intruder spotted on the
overhead bridge.
INT. BRIDGE
The chopper flies up close to the window, and shines a
spotlight inside, right on Zavier.
PILOT
(Loudspeaker)
You, in the bridge, stop what you are
doing and place your hands in the air!
Zavier doesn't.
PILOT
(Loudspeaker)
Stop what you are doing and place your
hands in the air!
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Twenty seconds.
ZAVIER
Twenty two.
EXT. BRIDGE
The chopper flies on top of the bridge, and cops jump out
onto the roof, each one equipped like a SWAT officer.
INT. BRIDGE
Zavier listens to the footsteps overhead. The police
shoot tear gas grenades inside through the vents. Zavier
doesn't seem worried.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Ten seconds.
ZAVIER
Twelve. Is my explosion ready for me?
INT. SEWER
We see that there is a block of plastic explosives under
a manhole cover.
INT. BRIDGE
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Ready. Five seconds.
ZAVIER
Seven.
The door in the roof is opening slowly, the police are
looking inside.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Three seconds.
ZAVIER
Five. Cue the lights.
INT. VAN
Charlie hits a big red button on a little black box.
EXT. STREET
BOOM! The explosion from under the manole cover creates
a massive fireball, just as the motorcade is passing over
it. The armored car is tipped on it's side. A police
car is hurled through the air and into another police
car. Within seconds, everything is in chaos.
INT. BRIDGE
Zavier is ready.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Go.
Zavier hits the detonator for his explosive lump, and it
blows, shattering the window. Zavier runs and dives
through it and into the air.
INT. AIR
Zavier freefalls, he spreads his arms like wings and
plummets towards the chaotic streets below. His bunjee
cord begins to tighten, slowing his fall. He gets ten
feet from the ground, and then releases himself.
EXT. STREET
He falls behind the cover of an exploded police car.
Suddenly, every cop in the area knows where he is, and
they all fire at him with their assault rifles. The
already blown-up car is blown apart slightly more, but
Zavier is safe.
The onslaught stops, and all the cops take tactical
firing positions. Zavier peers around the car. A bullet
whizes by his face, but he fires back and takes out one
cop, and tries for another, but a bullet hits him in the
gut. He pulls back behind cover.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Are you hit?
ZAVIER
I'm fine.
He pulls a smashed, smoking bullet out of his body armor.
His entire suit is one big piece of body armor.
Zavier aims around his cover, and fires at the gas tank
of another police car, which, of course, explodes.
Zavier looks up, and sees that the helicopter is flying
downwards towards him. He reloads his pistols and
prepares himself. The chopper grows nearer, and Zavier
takes off running into the open.
EXT. CHOPPER
The gunner in the back aims a rather big machine gun at
Zavier and opens fire.
EXT. STREET
Zavier runs through the street, now a warzone, shooting
every cop he can. The machinegun fire hits the asphalt,
but misses him. Zavier runs to the armored car and hides
behind it.
EXT. CHOPPER
The machinegunner ceases fire.
PILOT (V.O.)
Don't shoot the truck!
EXT. ARMORED CAR
Zavier swipes a keycard through an electronic lock on the
door of the armored car, and the doors open.
INT. ARMORED CAR
The interior is sterile, almost like a hospital, filled
with vials of all kinds of medical treatments. There is
a nurse huddled in a corner and a cop. Zavier aims his
gun at the cop.
ZAVIER
Give me your weapons.
The cop hands over his assault rifle, pistol, and some
grenades. He yanks the cop over to the open back door of
the car and turns him around.
ZAVIER
Stay there.
Zavier pulls a locked box out of a cabinet.
ZAVIER
Keys.
The cop gives Zavier a key, and so does the nurse, who is
scared out of her mind.
ZAVIER
It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you.
Zavier turns both keys simultaneously to open the box.
Inside, there is one vial of a blue liquid. He puts it
in small plastic case and puts it in his pocket.
ZAVIER
Charlie, I've got the cure.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Way to go, now get out of there.
ZAVIER
Not a problem.
Zavier takes a small step out of the truck, and empties
his gun into the chopper, then steals away back inside.
EXT. STREET
The helicopter starts firing tear gas grenades into the
street, before long, it's raining little metal tubes and
there is a pink cloud the size of a circus tent.
PILOT (V.O.)
Flush him out!
INT. ARMORED CAR
Zavier pulls a gas mask off the cop, gives it to the
nurse, puts on his own, then he takes the nurse's hand
and pulls her to the exit of the truck.
ZAVIER
Come on!
They run for it.
EXT. STREET
Zavier and the nurse run as fast as they can through the
vision obscuring tear gas. All the cops in the area
converge on the armored car. The hostage runs out of the
truck, and the rest of the cops shoot blindly inside,
hoping to hit something. They stop, and they all go
inside.
EXT. SIDEWALK
Zavier and the nurse stop running by the curb, and the
nurse sits down.
ZAVIER
Tell them something for me.
NURSE
What?
ZAVIER
Tell them that what I stole is going to
a good cause, and that their reign of
terror is almost over.
NURSE
Okay.
Zavier starts running again.
NURSE
Hey! Thanks!
ZAVIER
No problemo.
EXT. A LITTLE WAYS DOWN THE STREET
A few minutes later, a little ways down the street,
Zavier, on a very fast black motorcycle, races out of the
cloud and through the gridlocked traffic at 80 miles an
hour.
ZAVIER
Charlie, I'm out!
EXT. AIR
The helicopter sees Zavier and is flying after him.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
That chopper's right on your ass.
EXT. STREET
Zavier looks back, sees the chopper, and speeds up. He
makes a hard right turn, and finds his way out of the
traffic jam. The helicopter is still chasing overhead.
Zavier swerves into an alley.
INT. ALLEY
He smashes through cardboard boxes, trash cans, wooden
crates and garbage. The helicopter is flying as low as
it can, and the gunner fires all he's got at Zavier.
Zavier pulls back out into the street and continues on
his course.
EXT. STREET
He races through the oncoming traffic lane and then turns
onto a high speed boulevard, and increases his speed to
around 160. But the helicopter is still keeping up. It
pulls as close to the road as it can, and fires at
Zavier.
INT. VAN
The van is racing as fast as it's little engine can take
it, down the entrance to the road Zavier is on. Jen is
driving like a pro.
EXT. STREET
Zavier pulls his gun out, and fires at the chopper, every
single bullet he has goes into the belly of the
helicopter. The chopper pulls back quite a bit, and
Zavier races into a tunnel, and out of it's sight.
INT. TUNNEL
The van and the bike slow down, and ride alongside
eachother. Zavier pulls around to the driver's side of
the van, and looks in through the window at Jen. Zavier
pulls the fabric strip off his face and pulls the goggles
down around his neck. For the first time, we can see his
face. He's a really sharp looking guy, mid-twenties,
greasy, messy black hair, he's not terribly well groomed,
and looks weathered from years of action.
Jen blows him a kiss, Zavier air kisses her back.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Nice.
ZAVIER
Why thank you.
INT. VAN
Charlie lights a cigarrette.
ZAVIER (V.O.)
Are you smoking again?
CHARLIE
Stress.
INTERCUT AS NECESSARY
ZAVIER
Cigarettes will kill you.
CHARLIE
What you just did will kill you.
ZAVIER
With any luck, we should have the cure
ready to distrubute in about a week.
Maybe
CHARLIE
I wouldn't worry.
ZAVIER
I never do.
EXT. SKYSCRAPER
An establishing shot of a skyscraper in the center of the
city. It's tall, round and ominous. Like it's keeping
watch over the entire city. On the front of the building
is a logo: PLANETRON.
INT. PLANETRON SKYSCRAPER - OFFICE
There is a desk in the office, one entire wall is just
one big window, with a great view of the city from the
50th floor. This is a great big executive office, all
furnished and done up. The man behind the desk is in the
typical business mogul position, his chair back facing us
while he looks out the window. We never see this man,
DAMIEN. Another, less important man, WYATT, is sitting
elsewhere in the room.
WYATT
We might have a problem.
DAMIEN
What kind of problem?
His voice sounds strangely familiar. Almost everything
he says is said in a rude, degrading or superior tone.
WYATT
A rebel problem. There was another
strike on the other side of town today.
It was the antivirus truck,
transporting the newest batch to the
hospital in the upper end.
DAMIEN
What did you fail to prevent?
WYATT
...The motorcade's just driving through
the street, doing it's own thing, when
the chopper spots this guy inside a
bridge overhead. He's all dressed up,
so they warn of an intruder. The
chopper lands like five guys to take
this guy out, but this guy bunjee jumps
out the window. Then, suddenly, BOOM!
This huge explosion throws the whole
operation into chaos. So this guy, he
lands behind a wrecked car, and all of
our guys try to shoot him, but no one
even hits him, but he manages to take
out like five security personel. So he
runs right up to the truck, which is
turned over, and he breaks into it. He
puts the guard at the door as a
hostage, and he's in there for a couple
of minutes doing nothing, nobody has
any clue what the hell's going on
inside. So they try to flush him out.
The chopper unloads tear gas into the
stratosphere, and the rest of our guys
move on the truck, but when they get
there, he's gone. So the chopper spots
this guy getting away on a motorcycle
and tries to go after him, and --
Someone opens the door, a secretary.
SECRETARY
Damien --
WYATT
I'm trying to tell a story here.
DAMIEN
Shutup.
SECRETARY
Your father wants to see you.
Damien immediately bolts up out of his chair and walks
out the door as fast as he can. Wyatt follows him.
INT. HALLWAY
They walk through the maze of hallways as they talk.
WYATT
So the chopper goes after this guy, and
chases him for miles. Eventually, he
rides into a tunnel and the chopper
loses track of him. End of story.
INT. ELEVATOR
The doors close and they start going down.
WYATT
So security searches the truck, and
guess what they find. Everything
except the one vial containing the
purest, highest concentration of the
antivirus. What are we going to do
about this, Damien?
DAMIEN
WE can't do shit.
WYATT
Come on, man, in all honesty, your old
man's in no condition to run the
world's largest corporation. That
shifts the load onto your shoulders.
That's how it clicks in my brain.
DAMIEN
Well guess what. Your stupid little
brain is jumping to stupid little
conclusions.
The elevator stops and they start walking.
INT. HALLWAY
The hallways are lined with windows looking into rooms.
Medical laboratories of all kinds, it's almost like a
hospital here.
WYATT
Come on, man, they're kicking the shit
out of us. They hack our computers,
they drive away in our cars, they blow
up our security forces. And now they
steal our antivirus. It's out of hand.
DAMIEN
Those people never were under our
control.
WYATT
Then we have to get them under our
control or else we'll be under their
control.
DAMIEN
I agree, their superiority is the last
thing I want. But that problem's not
mine to solve.
WYATT
I would flush them out of the slums,
track them all down and arrest them.
Why? What would you do?
DAMIEN
...I would kill them.
They come to a stop in a waiting room, right outside a
patient's room.
DAMIEN
But, of course, we can make ten
thousand more vials for the same price
now. But guess what. Fuck you. I
have more important matters to tend to.
Sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up.
Wyatt is silent for a moment. He sits down in a chair,
and Damien enters the room, and, for a change, is not
followed by Wyatt.
INT. ROOM
It's dim, easy on the eyes. There is one single old man
sitting on his death bed in the room, which is otherwise
filled with life support machines of all shapes and
sizes, all hooked into this old man. Damien sits down in
a chair by the bed.
DAMIEN
Father...father...
The old man casts a surprised look at Damien.
FATHER
Damien...what are you doing here?
DAMIEN
You wanted to see me.
FATHER
Yes...It's yours.
DAMIEN
What?
FATHER
The corporation. I want to give the
corporation to you.
DAMIEN
Father...
FATHER
It's yours, whatever you want to do, do
it. I'm not here to stop you or argue
with you.
DAMIEN
I can't...
FATHER
Yes, you can.
Silence.
FATHER
But there's something more important
that I have to tell you.
DAMIEN
What is it?
FATHER
This is the one moment of my life that
I have dreaded the most, and not
because I'm dying.
(BEAT)
Before you were born, we worked closely
with all kinds of covert agencies.
Inhumane scientific research, genetic
recombination, biological warfare.
He coughs, and keeps coughing, untill the coughs become
painful and raspy. He stops finally.
DAMIEN
Are you okay?
FATHER
Things were done that I have regretted
untill this day. The thing I regret
most of all is a secret that I kept
from you.
(BEAT)
Damien...
He dies, no famous last words, no slow last breath. Just
dead. Flatline, right there. Damien looks at him for a
moment, his face blank. He stands up, slowly.
All kinds of medical personel rush into the room, with
all kinds of medical gear to bring him back to life.
DAMIEN
Stop...
No one hears him.
DAMIEN
STOP!!
They all stop, and look at Damien. Damien storms out of
the room.
EXT. WAITING ROOM
Wyatt is sitting down in the waiting room. Damien
enters, looking at the wall blankly, saying nothing. He
hears Wyatt breathing and turns to look at him. Wyatt
stands up and walks over to Damien, puts a hand on his
shoulder.
WYATT
I'm sorry man. But this guy, he --
Damien grabs Wyatt by the collar and slams him into the
wall as hard as he can, then spins him around and throws
him on the floor. He picks him back up, and runs him
into a supply cart as hard as he can, then back up
against the wall. He raises a fist, Wyatt is incredibly
scared. Damien stares at him for a moment, then relaxes,
lowers his fist. He starts neatening Wyatt up, smiles.
DAMIEN
Sorry about that, got a little carried
away. You know.
WYATT
No, I don't know --
DAMIEN
He died! He's dead!
He starts to laugh, but it soon turns into razor sharp
anger.
WYATT
Oh...
DAMIEN
He gave me the company. Ha!
A burst of laughter, then a silence, then another burst
of laughter, then no more, it's suddenly lost it's humor.
WYATT
I'm really sorry, man.
DAMIEN
...Yeah. Well fuck you.
He stands up, slowly, says nothing for a moment.
DAMIEN
You're not sorry.
WYATT
No, man, I mean I'm really sorry.
DAMIEN
I'm sorry for you.
He looks at Wyatt, then walks away. Coming around the
corner is a young woman, MONA, Damien's wife.
MONA
Hey, honey, what happened?
She tries to give Damien a hug, but he pushes her away
harshly. He reaches the end of the hall, then stops and
looks back at Wyatt.
DAMIEN
You're my best friend.
Then he walks away. Wyatt is still standing frozen
against the wall.
INT. SLUMS
These are the slums, a maze of mazes of condemned
buildings, poor people, many homeless, beat up, unused
cars with no tires or windows or stereos. A garbage dump
for people is what the slums are. They live miserably
here, while the tall buildings and good jobs of the rest
of the city are visible over the rooftops of the slums.
EXT. HOUSE
One single house in the slums, in pretty good condition
compared to the other houses here, relatively big. A
black van and motorcycle pull up in front of it. Zavier,
Charlie, San and Jen get out go up to the front door.
They ring the bell in a code, and a few moments later, a
skinny guy opens the doors, this is HARRY.
HARRY
Hey, guys, come on inside.
INT. HOUSE
The interior of the house isn't well kept, there are
clothes all over the place, boxes, piles of crap piled on
top of other, similar piles of crap. Warm welcomes are
exchanged in the entrance.
HARRY
Did you get it?
ZAVIER
Yeah. Let's go somewhere and talk.
HARRY
Sure.
INT. LIVING ROOM
There are pillows on the ground in this room, everybody
sits on one.
HARRY
What happened?
ZAVIER
One count of...
He pulls the vial out of his pocket.
ZAVIER
...Miracle.
Harry carefully takes the vial.
HARRY
Jesus.
ZAVIER
Did you ever figure out how all that
medical gear worked?
INT. BACK ROOM - BASEMENT
A dim back room of the house. In the room, there are
tables set up, with all kinds of medical technology laid
out on them, some of it working, some of it not.
HARRY
I managed to get some of it up and
running, but some of it was too
advanced or too damaged.
SAN
We need you to replicate as much of
this stuff as you can.
HARRY
I can do my best.
SAN
That should be good enough.
ZAVIER
We need this stuff as widespread as
possible as soon as possible. Can you
pull it off?
HARRY
Of course.
They high five eachother, and we see that each of them
has a tattoo on their hand. It's very intricate, a
circular shape composed of interwoven lines, all of it
being the body of a cobra.
INT. LIVING ROOM
Everyone is shuffling back into the living room. A
little girl of four comes down the stairs and sees them,
this is CAITLIN.
CAITLIN
Grampa Sun!
She runs towards San and gets a great big old person hug.
HARRY
Caitlin, he's grampa San, not Sun.
SAN
She can call me whatever she wants.
CAITLIN
Piggie!
SAN
Not piggie!
He starts tickling her to death in the background.
Everyone else is having their own conversation.
JEN
We're finally gonna get the bastards.
This is big, this is a huge step.
HARRY
Yeah, I don't know how much longer
everyone can hold out in this dump.
ZAVIER
We've got shortages of everything but
poverty and injustice.
HARRY
So what's after this?
ZAVIER
We're going to take Planetron out.
HARRY
Count me in. For sure. It's about
time for some justice.
JEN
It's not like anybody around here can
afford it.
INT. SKYSCRAPER - SECURITY STATION
This is the security headquarters of the Planetron
skyscraper. They own a lot of the police in the city.
There are very large TV screens on the walls, showing
simplified maps of the city, dots blinking here and
there.
Damien and Wyatt are sitting at a table in the middle of
the dim room.
DAMIEN
Who is this guy?
WYATT
The Dragon. He's like some fucking
superhero or something, he fights for
the people in the slums.
DAMIEN
Tell me everything you know about him.
WYATT
We know his first name, Zavier. He
goes by this alias, "The Dragon", but
we'll just call him Zavier. There are
two sides to each of his stories. The
poor people tend to call him a freedom
fighter. Rich people tend to call him
a terrorist.
DAMIEN
Of course.
WYATT
Basically, he wreaks havoc and steals
shit. He dresses up, grabs some guns
and beats the shit out of any form of
authority in his way. Our police, the
city's police, SWAT teams, the army.
Anyone. It's amazing, he never seems
to take a scratch, but he causes mass
amounts of damage. The purpose of all
this, he claims, is to help people.
DAMIEN
Example.
WYATT
Okay. There was this guy a few years
back, this hacker who was breaking into
our mainframe trying to access
classified information about us. He
makes attempts over the course of like
six months, and security eventually
traces him to a condemned building in
the slums. A SWAT team surrounds it.
They get the hacker cornered in the
building, and a team goes in. They all
die excpet two, who get taken hostage.
Everybody just stands around for an
hour or so, then the hostages get
released. Another team goes in, and
the house explodes. The unit pulled
out with eight casualties, two wounded,
and two unnacounted for.
DAMIEN
So what?
WYATT
Zavier and the hacker stole their
hostages' gear and escaped. To
unnacounted for. So he's like, some
kind of vigilante.
DAMIEN
Hey...stop. Make no mistake,
absolutely no mistake. He is a
terrorist.
WYATT
...Okay.
DAMIEN
Have you ever come close to killing
him?
WYATT
Well...
DAMIEN
Of course not.
WYATT
Not even close.
DAMIEN
One guy, and every cop we have hasn't
been able to stop him. Now, is that
your fault, or is he just really
fucking good?
WYATT
He's just really fucking good, I --
Damien stares at Wyatt for a moment, and Wyatt regrets
what he just said. Damien stands up and leaves the room.
INT. HALLWAY
They start walking down the hallway. Damien is walking
fast, and Wyatt is struggling to keep up.
WYATT
You walk fast. Where are you going?
DAMIEN
Security.
WYATT
Oh no, oh no! You're not going to try
to organize any operations against this
guy, are you?
DAMIEN
Yes.
WYATT
It's impossible.
DAMIEN
It is possible. You're just not
trying.
WYATT
It's not.
Damien stops walking. So does Wyatt. Damien slowly
turns around to face Wyatt, and though he seems calm, we
can see the rage in his eyes.
WYATT
Sorry...sir.
They start walking again.
INT. SECURITY HEADQUARTERS
Damien and Wyatt walk through the security headquarters.
There are numerous computers and operators, troops
hustling to where they're needed. It's much like a war
room.
INT. WINDOW ROOM
They are sitting at a table in a small room situated
above the main security room. One wall is made of glass,
so they can look down on all the activity.
WYATT
Well, he obviously lives in the slums.
We've had numerous unverified sightings
of him there before.
DAMIEN
I'm trying to think.
Damien's hand is resting on the table, but his fingers
are elevated just milimeters above it's surface, paused.
He breathres deeply.
WYATT
Do I sense a plan coming on?
DAMIEN
We're taking him out. Today, if
possible. Tomorrow if convenient. But
we're taking him out. And I don't mean
lock him up. I don't mean get ten guys
killed so we can put handcuffs on him
an put him behind some flimsy metal
bars. I mean kill him.
WYATT
Okay.
DAMIEN
We have one warehouse in the slums.
WYATT
Right.
Damien thinks for another moment.
DAMIEN
Tell Mona we're not having dinner
tonight. Or not tomorrow night,
either. I'm busy.
WYATT
Okay. Can I ask what you'll be busy
with?
DAMIEN
I'll be at the warehouse.
WYATT
You're way ahead of me.
DAMIEN
Well what'ya know? I go to the
warehouse as bait, we send every guy we
can muster there to wait for him.
WYATT
I don't think we should put you in the
warehouse, Damien.
Damien casts a cold stare at Wyatt.
WYATT
I'll get a contact. Pay some guy to
tell a guy to tell a guy to tell
Zavier. Don't worry, he'll be there.
DAMIEN
I'll be waiting.
INT. SLUMS
The black van is driving through the slums. The place is
just as dystopian as ever.
EXT. HIDEOUT
An abandoned store on the corner of a street. Or at
least, it seems abandoned. The black van pulls up to it,
and everyone gets out and stands at the front door, while
Charlie unlocks it. It is a lengthy, extensive process
involving keys, numeric codes and pushing.
INT. HIDEOUT
It's surprisingly clean in here. It looks like it used
to be a simple little corner store. The windows are
boarded up, and shelves which used to hold food now hold
guns and gear. Everyone steps in and Zavier closes the
door. Zavier goes into the back of the hideout into his
room.
INT. ZAVIER'S ROOM
There is a matress on the floor, a bookcase full of
books. There are open, half finished books all over the
place. Sketchpads, an old TV, a chair, and probably the
only window in the place without steel shudders are in
this room. Zavier walks inside and goes into the
bathroom.
Jen walks in a few moments later.
ZAVIER
Hey, babe.
JEN
Hey, "dude".
She collapses on a matress on the floor. She picks up a
sketchpad, with a drawing on it, looks like it barely got
started.
JEN
What was this going to be of?
ZAVIER
The drawing? You.
JEN
You're so good to me.
ZAVIER
I think I broke a rib.
JEN
Really?
ZAVIER
Yeah.
Zavier comes out of the bathroom, brushing his teeth.
ZAVIER
What's with this new toothbrush?
JEN
I got you that toothbrush.
ZAVIER
It's pink.
JEN
It's red.
ZAVIER
No, I think it's pink.
Zavier starts removing his gear, guns, grenades, boots,
armor, as they speak.
JEN
Whatever, it's red.
ZAVIER
It's pink.
JEN
Want a new one?
ZAVIER
This one's fine.
JEN
You're such an idiot.
ZAVIER
Why?
JEN
You complain that your toothbrush is
pink, then you say it's fine.
ZAVIER
I wasn't complaining...
He gets his armor off and pulls on some worn, ragged
clothes. He throws himself on the matress, where Jen is
sitting.
ZAVIER
...I was bickering.
JEN
Big idiot.
ZAVIER
No.
JEN
You're a big idiot.
Zavier grabs Jen, and pulls her closer to him. As they
speak, they pull closer together.
ZAVIER
You're an idiot.
JEN
You are the hugest, most humongus,
gargantuan, tremendous, stupendous
idiot I have ever met in my life.
ZAVIER
You are.
JEN
...Shutup...
ZAVIER
Okay.
They kiss.
INT. BEHIND THE COUNTER
Charlie is sitting at what used to be the front counter,
working on a computer. San is reading. We get to see
just how many guns are here. Lots of guns. There is an
array of electronic gear in the back, along with
explosives and any other kind of weapon you can imagine.
Zavier is even farther towards the back, listening to
music and working on a motorcycle, which would look
pretty nice, if it were not covered in scratches, paint
smears, rust and grease. Zavier adjusts one last thing
with a wrench.
He tosses the wrench aside, and then gets on the bike,
and turns it on. It starts.
ZAVIER
Yes.
He revvs the engine, and it sounds pretty damn powerful.
ZAVIER
Yeah.
Jen walks in.
JEN
Having sex with your bike?
ZAVIER
Better.
The phone rings, but before Zavier can get it, Charlie
answers it.
CHARLIE
Hello?
Everyone is looking at the phone nervously, like someone
is calling to tell them they're going to die.
CHARLIE
Thanks.
He hangs up the phone, and stands up from his computer.
CHARLIE
Newsflash!
INT. ENTRANCE
Everyone is sitting at a table in the entrance.
CHARLIE
Carlos called.
ZAVIER
What did he say?
CHARLIE
A friend of his heard something good.
He says that the old CEO of Planetron
died. His son took over.
JEN
He had a son?
CHARLIE
Apparently so. Always kept him low-
profile for his own safety. He sounds
like an idiot.
ZAVIER
How so?
CHARLIE
He's personally visiting his warehouse.
The one in the neighborhood.
ZAVIER
Jesus Christ. When?
CHARLIE
Take a wild guess.
ZAVIER
Tonight?
A long silence, all around the table.
CHARLIE
This will be our only chance for awhile
to get him. This is his newest
warehouse, with the least developed
security force.
ZAVIER
This is perfect.
SAN
Perfect?
ZAVIER
What do you mean, San?
SAN
Something that is too perfect is not
perfect at all.
A long silence.
JEN
He's right.
CHARLIE
We can't pass this opportunity up.
This is a one time only thing.
ZAVIER
You're right. We have a golden
opportunity here. How long before he's
there?
CHARLIE
Forty five minutes, he said.
JEN
It's very short notice.
CHARLIE
They probably just didn't want anybody
to know.
A long silence. Zavier is deep in thought.
CHARLIE
So...? Yes or no?
ZAVIER
I'm not sure.
SAN
Think more.
Zavier thinks some more.
SAN
You can never be sure about anything
untill you think about it. If you are
still unsure, think some more.
ZAVIER
...Let's do it.
EXT. WAREHOUSE
A very, very fancy black car pulls up to the warehouse.
The warehouse is huge. It's about five hundred feet long
and five hundred feet wide and thirty feet tall. At the
front of the warehouse, two giant doors retract, and the
black car pulls inside.
INT. WAREHOUSE
The car stops. Damien and Wyatt get out of the car.
Damien takes a look around. The warehouse is a hundred
feet high. There are cranes in the cieling, which can
move around on a framework of steel girders. Around the
perimeter of the warehouse, there are smaller rooms.
Some are secure storage, some are offices. On top of
these rooms is a walkway, which covers the perimeter of
the warehouse. And in the main storage area, there is a
huge maze of steel, plastic, and wooden crates. Damien
walks towards the warehouse supervisor's office. Wyatt
notices that he's going, and follows him.
INT. OFFICE
The fat supervisor drops his donut on the table and
stands up to greet them.
SUPERVISOR
Hello, sir, it's an honor to meet you.
He extends his hand for a handshake, but Damien doesn't
do handshakes. He sits down.
DAMIEN
How many guys?
SUPERVISOR
Forty two.
Wyatt is picking through the supervisor's box of donuts.
WYATT
Isn't forty two a good, high number,
Damien?
DAMIEN
No, but it'll do.
He and Wyatt exit the room.
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE ROOM
Damien looks around, plotting. He goes to the trunk of
his car and pulls out a couple of weapons cases. He sets
them on the floor and starts readying some weapons for
himself.
DAMIEN
Did you tell the informamt?
WYATT
Just before we left. That's a nice
suit. You should wear something more
protective.
DAMIEN
I'm wearing a full body suit of kevlar
under this suit.
Damien loads a pair of pistols an holsters them, then he
starts working on loading up another set.
WYATT
I always thought you liked that suit.
DAMIEN
It's my favorite.
Damien cocks a large pistol.
INT. HIDEOUT
Zavier is wearing his full body armor, and he is grabbing
as many guns as he possibly can, and is putting them in
any place he can wear a holster. San walks up to him.
SAN
You're not sure.
ZAVIER
...You're right. I'm sorry, San. But
this is too good to pass up. I know
that I have never done anything you've
warned be against. You're the only
reason I'm alive, standing here today.
SAN
You might not be tomorrow.
ZAVIER
That's a chance I'm willing to take.
This is what I have to do.
(BEAT)
I think you're worried about me.
SAN
I am worried about you. I never
thought you would oneday be doing this.
Zavier has finished gearing up. He places his hands on
San's shoulders.
ZAVIER
I never did either. But I am. This
has to be done, San, and I'm the only
one who can do it. You always told me
to believe in myself, didn't you? I'm
feeling pretty fucking confident right
now. I can fucking do this.
(BEAT)
Trust me...I can do this.
SAN
I'm not going to stop you.
A long silence. Zavier is worried.
ZAVIER
Okay. Come on.
They walk through the hideout, and out the back door,
where the black van is waiting.
EXT. HIDEOUT
Charlie closes the door behind Zavier and San, and locks
it. Everyone gets in the van except Zavier, who gets on
his rusty, scratched up bike. He wraps his face in a
black strip of fabric and looks back at Jen, who is
sitting in the driver's seat. She mouths the words "Big
idiot". Zavier starts his bike and Jen starts the van
and they both pull out of the alley.
EXT. STREET
Zavier is riding a short ways in front of the van. He is
wearing a headset radio.
ZAVIER
You guys keep your distance. I'll try
to keep it as quiet as possible, but if
all hell breaks loose, I want you guys
ready to take off.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
What if you're not out?
ZAVIER
I want you guys ready to take off. Got
it?
CHARLIE (V.O.)
...Yeah.
EXT. WAREHOUSE
The van pulls over a few blocks down the street, but
Zavier keeps riding, closer and closer. He pulls into an
empty alleyway and rides.
INT. ALLEY
He gets about a hundred feet away from the warehouse, and
stops. He turns off his bike and hides it behind a
dumpster. He jumps on top of the dumpster, and climbs up
the fire escape to the roof of the building.
EXT. ROOF
He gets onto the roof, almost invisible, and he runs over
to the far ledge, right next to the warehouse. It's
still a good distance away. Zavier looks down, there is
a security perimeter set up fifty feet around the
building, but not a very secure one.
ZAVIER
I'm on the roof. The security doesn't
look too heavy from here, but I'm not
sure.
Zavier looks down the street, sees the van parked.
JEN (V.O.)
Good luck, Zavier.
ZAVIER
Thanks.
Zavier catches sight of something and looks at it. A
security camera on the roof he's on. He walks over to
it, and sees that it's off. Odd.
INT. WAREHOUSE - OFFICE
Zavier is alone in an office. He is sitting in a chair
at a desk. He has his feet up, and is leaning back. He
lights a cigarrette. We see that there is an ashtray
next to him, totally filled with cigarrettes that he
alone just smoked. The room is pretty smokey.
Damien exhales deeply.
EXT. WAREHOUSE
Zavier climbs the mesh fence and slides over the barbed
wire, no harm done. He hits the ground, and pulls out
two pistols. He runs towards a ladder on the side of the
building and climbs up to the roof.
EXT. ROOF
There is a guard patrolling the roof. He stops to look
around, when a hand reaches up, grabs his foot, and pulls
him off the roof. Zavier climbs up, and runs over to a
window and looks through it.
ZAVIER
It looks pretty empty.
He opens the window, and stays low. He leans against the
window and looks around inside.
INT. WAREHOUSE
Zavier pokes his head and part of his upper body into the
warehouse and looks around. There's no one around, so he
slips inside, and crouches behind some crates.
ZAVIER
I'm inside. It's really empty.
INT. OFFICE
Damien hears something on his radio.
SNIPER
This is sniper, the target is in the
warehouse, and I have him in my sights.
INT. RAISED WALKWAY
Zavier is looking around cautiously, still talking to
Charlie.
ZAVIER
I'm gonna have a look around. Okay?
Charlie doesn't answer. There's just static on the line.
ZAVIER
Charlie? Are you there? Charlie,
Charlie!
INT. VAN
Charlie doesn't get anything back from Zavier.
JEN
What is it?
CHARLIE
They're jamming our frequency.
Charlie starts working with all kinds of equipment,
trying to regain communication.
INT. WAREHOUSE - RAISED WALKWAY
ZAVIER
Charlie?!
A small red laser dot appears on Zavier's leg, and starts
working it's way up to his head. Zavier doesn't notice.
It centers itself right on his temple, and that's when he
notices it. He dashes behind some nearby crates just as
a bullet flies past him.
He looks at the wall where the bullet hit. Suddenly,
several more lasers appear, trying to find a shot at him.
He looks around the crates to see the source, but they
all just shoot at him and he gets back.
He sees a team of a dozen soldiers split up below him,
and run around to two staircases. They climb up, and
wait for Zavier, blocking both ways he has out. They sit
and wait, and Zavier thinks.
He sees a very nearby staircase that hasn't been blocked
off. He pulls out both of his guns and runs for it. He
shoots at the nearest group of soldiers, and they shoot
back. Some of their bullets hit him and throw him off
balance. He hits the wall, and then rolls down the
stairs to the floor.
EXT. OFFICES
Zavier winds up in a cramped area behind the offices
surrounding the perimeter of the warehouse. He makes his
way to the corner, which leads into the rest of the
place. The troops that were above him come down the
stairs and take positions near him, ready to take him
out.
Zavier holsters his pistols and pulls out two submachine
guns. He fires both of them at the troops and takes a
few of them down. He runs and hides behind some crates
and the other three fire at him, moving back.
Zavier looks around the crates he's hiding behind and
sees that there are soldiers all over the warehouse,
everywhere, hiding in empty steel containers for the most
part. And they're all waiting for him. He hides and
starts thinking.
ZAVIER
Shit, shit, Zavier, think!
He looks around the crates, and sees that there is a drum
of some kind of explosive chemical, and he shoots it. It
explodes.
INT. OFFICE
Damien is standing now with his radio. He sees the
explosion, which shatters the window in the office. Fire
breaks out outside.
DAMIEN
Wyatt, what the fuck is going on out
there?!
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE ROOM
Wyatt is hiding behind the fancy black car. He responds
into his walky talky.
WYATT
They've got him pinned down.
There is another explosion.
WYATT
I think.
DAMIEN (V.O.)
Well fucking take care of him!!
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE
Almost every troop in the room is firing everything
they've got at Zavier. Zavier is just hiding, praying
that he doesn't get hit by all the hundreds of bullets
headed his way.
A closeby soldier fires at him. Zavier nails him, and a
second one fires at him from the opposite direction.
Zavier takes that guy out, and rolls behind another stack
of steel crates.
INT. OFFICE
Damien looks out the window, and sees Zavier hiding. He
fires his gun at him.
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE
Zavier, looks and sees Damien, they are both stricken,
they're carbon copies, exact. They both freeze for a
minute, but a cop launches a grenade, which lands near
Zavier. Zavier gets up and runs, shooting at anything he
can see. The grenade explodes, and Zavier hides behind a
concrete pillar. He fires at the police around it, but
they overwhelm him and he hides again.
He reloads his dual submachineguns and looks back at the
window where he saw Damien, but Damien is gone. Zavier
runs out from behind the pillar, and fires at the police,
running towards the office. He dives in through the
shattered window.
INT. OFFICE
He scans around with his guns, but there's no one in
there anymore. Gunfire shatters what's left of the
window and perforates the walls. Zavier turns over the
desk in the room and hides behind it.
He's bleeding pretty badly out of his shoulder. He takes
the fabric off his face and uses it as a bandage.
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE
The security force stops firing.
TEAM LEADER
Check it out.
Five guys run up to the office, kick in the door and rush
inside.
INT. OFFICE
They look around for a moment. Zavier's gun fires from
behind the desk, and shoots out the light.
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE
They can no longer see what's going on inside the room,
but they can hear gunshots.
INT. OFFICE
The team leader's voice can be heard over a deadguy's
radio.
TEAM LEADER (V.O.)
What's your status? What's the fucking
situation?
One survivor, cowering in the corner, lights a couple of
orange-blue flares and throws them on the floor. The
police outside shine some big spotlights into the room.
He looks around, gets on the radio.
TROOP
Uh...man down...three guys...I lost the
shooter--
He sees Zavier behind the desk, aiming his gun at his
face. The cop freezes.
ZAVIER
Drop your weapons and your radio.
The guy does.
ZAVIER
Turn around, slowly.
The guy does, very slowly.
ZAVIER
Walk to the door.
They both ease over to the door.
ZAVIER
Okay, now I want you to hold these.
Zavier pulls the pins on two grenades, but keeps the
levers down, and gives them to the troop, who holds one
in each hand.
ZAVIER
Be careful.
CLICK, Damien puts his gun to the back of Zavier's head.
Zavier tries to look at him. Niether of them can see the
other's face.
DAMIEN
Don't move. Put your gun down.
Zavier doesn't put his gun down.
DAMIEN
Put your fucking gun down!
Zavier does.
DAMIEN
I'm going to enjoy this. Hear me! Do
you fucking hear me?!
Zavier doesn't answer.
DAMIEN
God, you're nothing but a little punk
who thinks he can take on the leaders.
Fucking rebel. You're nothing.
(BEAT)
Give me one good reason.
Zavier has a grenade in his hand without a pin. He's
holding the lever down. He holds it up where Damien can
see it.
ZAVIER
Good enough?
DAMIEN
...You, pick up your guns and get out
of here.
TROOP
I can't...
Damien sees that he has grenades in his hands as well.
DAMIEN
Just fucking get out of here, then!
ZAVIER
I'll shoot him.
DAMIEN
I'll shoot you.
ZAVIER
I'll blow you up.
A long silence.
ZAVIER
How do we get out of this?
DAMIEN
Figure it out.
Another long silence.
DAMIEN
You're here for me, aren't you?
ZAVIER
Are you the new CEO of Planetron?
DAMIEN
Yes.
ZAVIER
Then you're the one I'm here for. You
know, we sound a lot alike. It's
amazing. I'd bet you really like this
conversation.
DAMIEN
Why do you think that?
ZAVIER
You sound like a guy who loves the
sound of his own voice.
A long silence. Suddenly, Zavier spins around to put his
gun in Damien's face. Damien turns away, and fires his
gun wildly, missing Zavier, but hitting the security
guard right in the head. He drops his grenades. Zavier
looks at the grenades, then drops his and runs for it.
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE
He runs out of the office as fast as he can, firing at
whoever he sees.
INT. OFFICE
Damien runs towards the door into the next office, but
the grenades explode, and throw him through it.
INT. OTHER OFFICE
He is thrown through the air, and slides across the floor
to a stop.
INT. WARREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE
Zavier hides behind some crates, and the security force
fires at him some more. He looks around, sees that the
warehouse is almost totally in flames. Part of the roof
collapses, and then part of a wall does. The steel
girders in the cieling are weakened, and start coming
loose.
INT. VAN
Everyone watches the destruction unfold.
JEN
Jesus fucking Christ!
INT. OTHER OFFICE
Damien starts taking off his business suit, revealing the
full body kevlar armor underneath it.
WYATT (V.O.)
You okay, Damien?
DAMIEN
Fuck off.
Damien gets up and goes somewhere with a purpose.
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE
Zavier looks up in time to see a steel girder falling
right above him. He jumps out of the way as it crushes
the crates he was hiding behind. He is left open to the
soldiers. They fire at him, and he returns fire, while
running towards a big concrete pillar. He gets behind
it.
He aims his gun around the corner, and fires at the gas
tank on one of the cranes in the cieling. It explodes,
and sends a dozen steel girders flying. They crash here
and there, and the crane itself plummets to the ground
and causes a huge amount of destruction. Every surviving
soldier starts exiting the building.
Zavier comes out of his hiding place, scans around,
there's nobody left. He relaxes, and suddenly, someone
starts firing at him.
EXT. OTHER OFFICE
It's Damien, with an assault rifle, emptying the clip at
Zavier.
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE
Zavier runs as fast as he can and hides behind the fancy
black car, and finds himself sitting right next to Wyatt.
He looks at Wyatt, who has a gun to his head. A tense
moment, then Wyatt puts his gun down.
WYATT
Damien, are you alright, man?! I
thought you were dead! Let's get the
fuck out!
Zavier shoots Wyatt in the leg. Whyatt grips his leg in
pain.
WYATT
Motehrfucker! What was --
Zavier knocks Wyatt out with a punch to the face.
Damien's firing blows the car apart, and Zavier makes a
run for a stack of crates. He gets there safely, then
fires at the office where Damien is.
INT. VAN
Charlie makes a couple of final changes to a new
communications setup.
CHARLIE
I think we're back online.
INT. WAREHOUSE
Some of Damien's bullets hits the crate right next to
Zavier's head. Zavier crouches down.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Zavier, can you hear me?
ZAVIER
I can hear you.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
What the fuck is going on in there,
man?!
ZAVIER
All fuckin' hell! Get as far away as
you can!
CHARLIE (V.O.)
We're waiting for you, Zavier!
ZAVIER
Fuck you, Charlie!
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Fuck you, Zavier! We're staying!
ZAVIER
NO!! Charlie...Charlie?!
Damien's gun finds it's way to the back of Zavier's head.
He freezes. Zavier whips around to put his gun in
Damien's face -- and they see eachother for the first
time...
They stare at eachother for a moment, in silence, their
faces blank, expressionless, niether of them is sure what
to do or say. The explosions, the fire, the creaking of
the framework of the warehouse, it all takes a back seat,
it all fades into echoes...
INT. SMALLER STORAGE ROOM
Inside a smaller storage room very near the two of them,
there is an extremely large propane tank. The fires are
growing very near to it.
INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN STORAGE
They're still staring at eachother. They slowly remove
their fingers from the triggers, and then lower their
guns and just stare at eachother in awe.
Then -- BOOM! The propane tank explodes, and throws them
both through the air and across the warehouse. Damien
flies through a window and into an office. Zavier lands
in the opposite corner, behind some crates.
EXT. WAREHOUSE
The black van races up to the warehouse and drives right
through the mesh fence. The big doors are closed, and
the van pulls over outside them.
INT. VAN
Everyone's in a panic.
CHARLIE
Shit!
JEN
Let's go!
They each grab some weapons, and they get out of the van.
INT. WAREHOUSE
Jen kicks in the little door, and runs through.
JEN
Look around!
They look around. Charlie sees him -- or, rather, he
sees Damien, lying unconscious inside the office.
CHARLIE
I found him!
Jen runs over to him and they run inside the office.
They grab him and drag him towards the exit.
EXT. VAN
They get outside, and throw Damien into the van. They
get in, and take off.
INT. VAN
Charlie looks at his unconscious body, takes his pulse.
JEN
Is he dead?
CHARLIE
He's alive. Zavier...Zavier...
Zavier...
He doesn't respond.
INT. WAREHOUSE
A security force kicks in another door and rushes inside,
they scan around for a little while. A couple guys pass
by the fancy black car.
WYATT
HEY!! HEY!!
They run over to him, and pick him up and carry him away.
WYATT
Wait! There's Damien, over there!
He points them over to Zavier. The other guys pick him
up and carry him outside.
EXT. WAREHOUSE
There are two helicopters hovering outside the warehouse.
The security guys throw Wyatt and Zavier into one, and
climb into another one. They both take off.
INT. HELICOPTER
Wyatt looks outside the chopper, as he flies away, he
sees what's left of the warehouse collapsing, and
exploding some more. He looks excited.
WYATT
What a rush!
He looks at Zavier, unconscious.
WYATT
Hey, Damien, you alive? Damien?!
BLACK
Total, pitch black.
SAN (V.O.)
How is he?
CHARLIE (V.O.)
Alright.
Suddenly, blinding light, we are behind two eyelids, we
open, and look at the cieling of a grimy hideout. We are
unable to move.
JEN (O.S.)
What does he have?
CHARLIE (O.S.)
Five broken ribs and some disolactions.
And a nasty bump on the head.
JEN (O.S.)
How nasty?
CHARLIE (O.S.)
Reall nasty. Brain damage nasty.
JEN (O.S.)
Oh...
Our eyelids close.
BLACK
And another set of eyelids open, to see bright lights
shining down on us. A hospital bed. We look around, but
can't move too much.
MONA (O.S.)
What happened?
WYATT (O.S.)
A fuckin' disaster. I caught a bullet
in the leg. He's got some bad burns.
DOCTOR (O.S.)
And a severe concussion. There was
some internal bleeding and swelling in
his brain...but we were able to stop
it. From doing any further damage.
MONA (O.S.)
Further damage?
DOCTOR (O.S.)
The large explosion you saw created a
compressed air shockwave. It threw him
across the warehouse and his brain was
severely shocked. Even without the
bleeding...
MONA (O.S.)
Will he remember anything?
DOCTOR (O.S.)
Our X-rays are telling us that his
memory center was badly damaged. He'll
wake up with severe amnesia.
WYATT (O.S.)
Will he get any of it back?
DOCTOR (O.S.)
He might, he might not. That depends
entirely on him...We don't know.
Our eyelids close.
INT. HIDEOUT - LATER
Damien is sleeping in Zavier's home, in Zavier's bed, in
Zavier's clothes. The faint sounds of worried
conversation can be heard in the background. Damien's
eyes open, and he looks around. He has no idea where he
is, this place is new and strange to him. He smells his
clothes in disgust. He tries to sit up, but winces in
pain. He grunts and lays back down.
San enters. Damien stares at him, alarmed.
SAN
He's awake.
Everyone gathers around.
JEN
How do you feel?
Damien doesn't say anything, he's just scared. He bolts
to his feet, winces in pain and sits falls back down
again.
CHARLIE
Just calm down!
Damien swings his fist at Charlie's face, but misses. He
jumps to his feet, and tackles Charlie into the wall. He
runs for the door, but Jen catches him and wrestles him
into a pressure point hold. She forces him back down
onto the mattress. Charlie gets on his feet and lunges
towards Damien, trying to keep him down. Damien seems to
be in a lot of pain.
CHARLIE
Calm down! Just calm down!
DAMIEN
Get the fuck off me!
JEN
Calm the fuck down!
Damien tries to get up, but he's too weak and Jen and
Charlie are too strong. He tries again, with no success.
He starts to calm down. Charlie gets off of him.
JEN
Calm down. Are you calm?
DAMIEN
...Yeah.
JEN
Are you calm?
DAMIEN
YES!!
Jen lets go of the pressure point lock, and Damien
collapses onto the mattress.
DAMIEN
What the fuck?!
(BEAT)
...Where am I?
Everyone is silent.
DAMIEN
Well...where the fuck am I?
CHARLIE
You don't know where you are?
DAMIEN
I asked you, didn't I?
JEN
This is home, the hideout, you live
here, we all live here.
DAMIEN
I...live with you?
CHARLIE
Yeah. You don't remember a thing do
you?
DAMIEN
...Nope.
CHARLIE
Nothing about...who you are, who we
are, what happened to you?
DAMIEN
I don't, okay?
JEN
Do you remember your own name?
DAMIEN
...Almost...
They let him think for a moment.
DAMIEN
...I don't remember my name.
SAN
Zavier. You are Zavier. My name is
San.
JEN
I'm Jen.
CHARLIE
I'm Charlie.
Damien gives them a blank stare. He says nothing.
CHARLIE
You should lay down and get some rest.
He lays down to get some rest. Jen is really emotional,
a cross between sad, furious and happy. She exits the
room. San just continues to stand there, keeping a vigil
watch. Charlie goes about giving Damien a morphine shot.
CHARLIE
You shouldn't be sitting up or
anything, at least not for awhile.
DAMIEN
My head hurts.
CHARLIE
You got pretty fucked up.
DAMIEN
What happened?
CHARLIE
You got into a big fight, it was a
disaster.
DAMIEN
With who?
CHARLIE
...Lots of people. A gunfight, you
know? With guns and explosions and
general destruction. In a warehouse.
An explosion knocked you out, you're
lucky to be alive.
DAMIEN
I don't feel that lucky.
Damien notices that Charlie has a cigarrette in his
mouth, smells the smoke.
DAMIEN
Cigarrettes.
CHARLIE
Yeah. I should quit.
He throws his cigarrette on the ground, but before he can
stomp it out, Damien picks it up and starts smoking it.
CHARLIE
Whoah. You don't smoke.
DAMIEN
I don't?
CHARLIE
No, you got all health conscious and
quit not too long ago.
Damien takes another long drag of the cigarrette, then
looks at it.
DAMIEN
Hmmm.
Charlie starts checking his bandages.
DAMIEN
Why did I do that?
CHARLIE
What?
DAMIEN
Get into that fight.
CHARLIE
...Right now, you need to rest. You'll
find out.
Charlie leaves the room, but San is still there. Damien
looks at him blankly.
DAMIEN
You don't say much, do you? You don't
have to say much? We just get what you
mean?
A blank stare from San.
DAMIEN
Cool. So what's your story? I guess
I'm in love with Jen, Charlie's a
friend or something, but who are you?
My father? My...uh...mentor?
SAN
No.
DAMIEN
Niether?
SAN
I am who I am.
DAMIEN
Great.
Damien continues to smoke his cigarrette, while resting
his eyes. San leaves.
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM
Zavier is lying on a hospital bed. Wyatt is lying next
to him. Mona is sleeping in a chair. Zavier flinches
and wakes up. He bolts up in his bed, and looks around.
He starts tearing the electrodes off himself.
WYATT
Mornin', sunshine.
Zavier looks at Wyatt.
WYATT
Glad to see you up.
Zavier doesn't say anything, doesn't do anything.
WYATT
Hello...Earth to Damien. What's up?
ZAVIER
Who...?
WYATT
Am I? Wyatt.
ZAVIER
Am I?
WYATT
Damien.
ZAVIER
Damien...? Sounds familiar.
WYATT
Christ...you have amnesia. You don't
remember shit, do you?
ZAVIER
I don't...think so.
WYATT
That sucks.
Zavier jumps out of bed, and starts running away, but
Wyatt gets off his cot and grabs Zavier. They wrestle
around for a moment, before Zavier traps Wyatt between
the wall and a very sharp doctor's utencil. Mona is
awakened by this, and she runs out of the room, calling
the doctor.
WYATT
Hey, man, just chill.
ZAVIER
I can't just chill.
WYATT
Hey, man, would you do me a favor?
ZAVIER
Wh--
WYATT
No seriously, would you just do me one
favor?
ZAVIER
What?
WYATT
Just chill. Just chill.
He shoves Zavier away. They both just stand there for a
moment. Zavier drops whatever sharp thing he was
holding.
ZAVIER
What's going on?
WYATT
Just lie down, man, you've got nothing
to worry about, everything's going to
be just fine.
ZAVIER
I don't like the sound of that.
He suddenly feels a sharp pain from his head, he holds it
in agony, and collapses on his bed and screams into the
matress. A doctor rushes in, along with several male
nurses, who grab Zavier by his limbs. He tries to
struggle, and does so with great gusto, but the four or
five guys manage to force him down onto his cot.
DOCTOR
Just be calm, Damien, you're just fine.
He readies a hypodermic needle.
DOCTOR
I'm just going to give you one little
shot...
He practically stabs the needle into Zavier's arm and
pushes down the plunger.
DOCTOR
There...see...just fine. Right?
Zavier is calming down.
DOCTOR
Right? Right?
The drugs make him groggy, he can't really think.
ZAVIER
...Right.
DOCTOR
Okay.
The nurses leave, and the doctor sits down. Zavier looks
at Mona, who is just kind of standing frozen in horror,
and she looks back.
ZAVIER
Hi?
MONA
Hi.
Another long, blank stare from both of them.
DOCTOR
Damien, what do you know?
ZAVIER
I know...nothing. I know nothing.
DOCTOR
Do you remember anything at all?
ZAVIER
No.
DOCTOR
Just as I thought.
MONA
Amnesia?
DOCTOR
Severe amnesia.
ZAVIER
I...
DOCTOR
It's okay, just rest. Just rest.
ZAVIER
I can't rest. I have no fucking idea
what's going on, I can't just close my
eyes and go to sleep.
DOCTOR
The shot I just gave you should take
care of that.
ZAVIER
Fuck your shot. I'm still awake, I'm
still alert. Tell me things.
Anything.
WYATT
You're really fucked up.
ZAVIER
Why?
WYATT
You got stuck in the middle of a huge
battle in a warehouse. You were caught
in an explosion.
DOCTOR
And the explosion knocked you
unconscious and appears to have given
you brain damage.
Zavier is silent. The doctor extends his hand for a
handshake.
DOCTOR
I'm doct--
ZAVIER
Who are you?
He's looking at Mona.
MONA
I'm...Mona, your wife.
Zavier smiles a drugged up smile at her, then closes his
eyes and passes out. He starts mumbling indecipherable
phrases.
ZAVIER
I?
INT. SEDAN - BACK SEAT
Damien is sitting in the back seat of a black sedan, next
to Jen, cruising through the slums. He's looking out the
window at everything, not sure exactly what to make of
it.
JEN
I know that this is a huge shock to
you, this whole thing, but try to clear
your head. This is important.
DAMIEN
Just tell me.
JEN
Your name is Zavier. You're--
DAMIEN
What's my last name?
JEN
We don't know. You never knew. You
never thought it mattered. You grew up
in an orphonage and on the street. No
parents. Your name is Zavier. Some
people call you different things. Some
call you a terrorist, and Some call you
a freedom fighter. To us, you're a
freedom fighter.
DAMIEN
Freedom?
JEN
Freedom for the people.
Damien looks out the window, at all the homeless and poor
sitting on the sidewalks.
DAMIEN
These people?
JEN
Yes, these people.
DAMIEN
Who are they?
JEN
The underdogs, the...expendables.
These are the people that society left
behind. The people who were left
sucking on exhaust pipes when the rest
of the world drove off without them.
DAMIEN
Poor people?
JEN
...Yeah. You help them, fight for
them.
DAMIEN
Against who?
JEN
Society, the man, the system. Everyone
who is rich, greedy, powerful, and can
somehow call themselves superior. The
power. You fight the power.
CHARLIE
...Planetron.
DAMIEN
Planetron?
JEN
A corporation. The world's biggest
corporation, the monopoly in most
everything. It's responsible for the
developmental increase that left us out
here in the slums. They sell security,
they sell safety, justice, longer life,
but only to people who can afford those
things.
DAMIEN
I...fight them?
JEN
Yeah.
DAMIEN
Like how?
CHARLIE
You get guns and attack them where
they're weak.
DAMIEN
Am I any good?
JEN
You're good. Really good.
CHARLIE
Was.
They drive by what's left of the warehouse. Fire crews
are all around, Planetron security, emergency response
teams. Everyone is here.
DAMIEN
Jesus.
JEN
That's where it happened.
DAMIEN
Where what happened? The big battle?
CHARLIE
Where you lost your memory. The CEO of
Planetron was there, you went in to
kill him. It was an ambush, a total
disaster, you nearly died.
They drive past the warehouse and there is silence for a
few moments.
JEN
There's this virus, nobody has seen it
before, it's totally unlike anything
ever seen before. It's eating us up,
killing us off. Planetron has a cure,
but it's expensive, nobody here can
afford it. So, no one is going to help
us.
DAMIEN
The government has to give us some aid.
CHARLIE
Planetron IS the government.
JEN
They're partially integrated.
Planetron makes unbelievable sums of
money, which they share with the
government.
CHARLIE
If you can't beat them, join them.
That's what Planetron did.
(BEAT)
NO ONE is going to help us.
SAN
Except you.
DAMIEN
Except me.
JEN
You're the only person who can do
anything about it.
DAMIEN
Me?
(BEAT)
...Jesus...all these things you're
telling me I do. I don't remember a
single one of them.
JEN
You have amnesia from the explosion.
Hopefully it will all come back to you
...eventually.
DAMIEN
I know how to speak, how to read,
write, do math, smoke a cigarrette,
take a piss, walk...
(BEAT)
What does that mean?
JEN
It means...that what you know doesn't
make you who you are.
DAMIEN
I know all these things...
Damien sees that in this amount of time, he has taken a
hold of Jen's hand. He looks at her, and they kiss.
Damien rests his head against the window of the car and
looks through it as they drive.
DAMIEN
...But I don't know who I am...
INT. SKYSCRAPER - HOSPITAL
Zavier is walking wearilly along with Wyatt and the
doctor and some security guys.
ZAVIER
Where are we going?
WYATT
Everywhere, man, we're going everywhere
and showing you everything.
ZAVIER
What?
WYATT
Everything in this building. You own
this building, Damien.
ZAVIER
My hand hurts.
He looks at his hand, he has a bandage wrapped around it.
ZAVIER
What's this?
WYATT
Some kind of burn. You own the world's
largest corporation, Planetron. We
make everything.
ZAVIER
Who are these guys?
He's reffering to a security guard walking past him,
equipped like a soldier, the Planetron logo clearly
visible on his body armor.
WYATT
Your own personal fucking security
army, man! You own them, and these are
the guys who keep us safe.
ZAVIER
I own the police?
WYATT
Some. Of course, the city still has to
have a little bit of official
government, the rest belong to them.
We do most everything, though. But, if
the police needed to, they could
comandeer our guys at any time. But we
own like half of the city, and that
half of the city is ours to do with as
we please. Come on.
He pulls Zavier on to an elevator, and they get in,
leaving the doctor and the security behind.
INT. ELEVATOR
They get in and Wyatt hits the button for the top floor.
ZAVIER
Where are we going?
WYATT
Up. All the way up.
He gives Zavier a cardkey.
ZAVIER
What's this for?
WYATT
It's a secure area. Only you and me
have full access to it. Your father
used to...
ZAVIER
My father...?
The elevator doors open, and they step out.
INT. HALLWAY
They exit the elevator into a very futuristic looking
hallway. They walk to a door and stop. They stand there
for a moment.
WYATT
Right here. Put your finger there.
Zavier looks, a fingerprint scanner. He slowly places
his thumb on it, and it scans. It processes his
fingerprint isntantly, and the door opens. Zavier has an
extremely confused look on his face. Wyatt scans his
fingerprint, and they both go through the door.
INT. SECURITY HALLWAY
It's a totally empty, white hallway with a door at the
far end. Zavier stops and looks at a panel in the
cieling that looks like it could be opened.
ZAVIER
What's that?
WYATT
Automated turret. Blows away anybody
who tries to break in forcefully.
Zavier looks at a security camera in the corner of the
room. They reach the door.
WYATT
Unlock it.
Zavier insets his card in a slot, and a light near the
slot turns green. He just sits there, does nothing, then
Wyatt twists his card for him, and the door opens. They
go inside.
INT. MAINFRAME
THey walk inside. It's a long room, rounded on one end,
where there is a very cool looking computer.
ZAVIER
What is this place?
WYATT
Planetron's mainframe computer.
Everything's all here. You can access
it all.
They walk over to the computer terminal.
WYATT
It's the fastest computer on the
planet.
Zavier looks at the computer, it's just normal, nothing
special.
ZAVIER
Just that?
Wyatt uses his card to activate a maintenance control
panel, and he hits a button on it. In the big, empty
part of the room, several dozen panels in the floor open
up, and big black refridgerator-sized things come out of
the floor, humongus supercomputer processors.
WYATT
Just that.
ZAVIER
And I can access everything from here?
WYATT
Anything and everything.
INT. ELEVATOR
They're in an elevator again. The front of this one is
made of glass, and it is currently moving behind some
concrete, so not much can be seen.
ZAVIER
So what do we sell?
WYATT
Everything. We own almost every
hospital in the world, we're the leader
in biotechnology, medicine,
electronics, communications, computers,
cars, energy. We're integrated with
the national government, so we develop
all kinds of weapons technology for
them. They rely mainly on our profits
now, people pay almost no taxes, they
just buy our merchandise. We're the
world's leading scientific researcher.
ZAVIER
What kinds of research?
WYATT
All kinds. Genetic recombination,
engineering, cloning. And...biological
and chemical warfare. Weapons.
ZAVIER
Jesus.
The elevator goes down past the concrete, and we can see
the city through the glass wall, from about two thousand
feet in the air. It's really beautiful.
WYATT
Los Angeles. The largest, most
populated city in the world. Also the
safest. Because of us.
ZAVIER
Those security guys were pretty
heavilly loaded down.
WYATT
Standard for any police in the city.
That's why this place is so safe. More
people are moving here all the time.
ZAVIER
So, we're like, the next best thing to
a government?
WYATT
Government is the next best thing to
us. We built and own over half the
city. It's a stable system sofar. We
got it right after the first time we
tried.
ZAVIER
Tried? We didn't succeed?
WYATT
We built a suburb, cost us billions of
dollars. People lived in it and worked
for us in it...for about four months.
There was a global stock market
recession. We had to stop maintaining
this place. It fell apart. Now, it's
the poorest, most crime ridden place in
the country. The slums.
(BEAT)
And another thing, Damien. Nobody
knows who you are.
ZAVIER
What do you mean?
WYATT
Only a few people know you exist. Your
father kept you a secret. He was
protecting you, I guess.
ZAVIER
I keep hearing about my father...
WYATT
Your father started this corporation,
ran it for most of his life. Untill
yesterday.
ZAVIER
Yesterday?
WYATT
He died yesterday.
Zavier gives Wyatt a blank look. He has no clue what
he's talking about and doesn't really care.
WYATT
He gave Planetron to you, Damien.
Zaver is silent.
WYATT
Look man, I'm really sorry...
ZAVIER
It's okay, I'm not sad.
WYATT
Oh. The doctor said that strong
emotions are consistent, even if you
don't remember the cause.
ZAVIER
...No, I'm fine.
Zavier gives Wyatt his blank stare once more. The
elevator comes to a stop, and the doors open, and they
get out.
INT. HIDEOUT - ZAVIER'S ROOM
Damien is sitting on Zavier's mattress, staring at the
wall, bored. Jen comes in.
JEN
Hey.
DAMIEN
Hey.
JEN
Come on.
She takes Damien's hand and drags him away.
EXT. ROOF
They exit the hideout onto the roof. It's two floors up,
but few buildings in the slums are taller than that.
They would have a great view if it wasn't a view of a
hell-hole.
DAMIEN
Why are we out here?
JEN
We used to hang out up here all the
time, remember?
(BEAT)
Guess not.
Jen pulls Damien over to a corner, overgrown with dead
weeds, and she pulls the weeds aside. There is a carving
in the wall: ZJ, inside an upsidedown heart.
DAMIEN
What's with the upsidedown heart?
JEN
We just...didn't want to do it like
everyone else, you know? It's our own
little thing, just for us.
DAMIEN
Yeah, too bad I don't remember.
There are two rusty lawn chairs sitting nearby, and each
of them takes one, and watches the sunset.
DAMIEN
I think I love sunsets.
JEN
Funny, you always used to hate them.
They were always too bright or too
orange. I love sunsets.
Damien weasels his arm over Jen's shoulder. Jen's not
too comfortable.
DAMIEN
I hope my memory comes back.
JEN
Me too. Maybe you'll remember that you
loved me.
DAMIEN
Hmmm.
JEN
(A little creeped out)
I can't wait to have the old you back.
Damien sees a tower of smoke rising into the sky from
about a mile away.
DAMIEN
What is that?
JEN
Oh, that...bodies.
DAMIEN
Bodies?
JEN
Infected bodies. We have this group,
every day, they collect infected bodies
and burn them. Dozens are cremated
every day.
DAMIEN
That many?
JEN
Yeah, that many. Too many.
Damien has zoned out, he really doesn't care all that
much. He lights a cigarrette.
JEN
Don't smoke. You just quit.
Damien takes a long, long drag before replying.
DAMIEN
I just had a craving, that's all.
Zavier shrugs, and keeps smoking.
JEN
Just stop, those things are bad for you
anyway --
DAMIEN
So this Asian guy, what's with him?
JEN
He found you when you were young,
homeless, living on the streets. He
took you in, kind of became your
father.
DAMIEN
Fucking wierd. This is...my life, and
I just forgot it. Like that, all gone.
No trace. Sad, really. I don't know,
but I feel kind of...sad. Not because
I don't remember anything, but...for
some reason I can't place. I feel
like...I lost something...someone...
JEN
Don't worry, it's gonna be wierd for
awhile, then everything will come back
to you.
DAMIEN
Or...
He takes another drag, then looks at the sunset, he is
suddenly revived, happy, witty, maybe a little too much
so.
DAMIEN
So we spent a lot of time up here? Was
it like, romantic, or something?
JEN
Yeah...
DAMIEN
Cool. I mean, it's not like it's not
romantic, because it is, it's just...
new and different for me, is all.
JEN
It's okay. Big idiot.
DAMIEN
(Really means it)
You're a fucking idiot.
JEN
Shutup.
DAMIEN
(Catching on)
Okay.
They kiss. Damien's half of it is more a greedy, lusty
kiss rather than a tender loving one. Jen is just not
sure. She tries to pull away, but Damien holds onto her
and won't let her. Damien eventually lets go of Jen.
DAMIEN
Fuck...
He stands up and goes back inside, without even looking
at her.
INT. SKYSCRAPER - DAMIEN'S ROOM
Zavier is lying on Damien's bed with Damien's wife.
They've been talking for quite awhile.
ZAVIER
So...I'm not like I used to be, am I?
MONA
No.
ZAVIER
Tell me everything you know about me.
MONA
I wouldn't know where to start.
(BEAT)
You were...a nice guy.
ZAVIER
I can tell you didn't mean that.
MONA
No, you were really nice. You were --
Zavier shushes her gently.
ZAVIER
I want to know about my old self,
honestly. I was a mean guy, wasn't I?
MONA
...Yeah.
A long silence.
ZAVIER
Okay. All around negative?
MONA
Yes.
ZAVIER
Greedy?
MONA
Yes.
ZAVIER
Self centered?
MONA
Yes.
ZAVIER
...Controlling?
MONA
...Yes.
There is a pause.
ZAVIER
Okay. So that's out of the way. Good,
I've been thinking about this, and I
want to just forget about everything.
Start over.
MONA
Cool. Will I like you?
ZAVIER
Did you like me before?
They both smile.
ZAVIER
No. Then you should now.
MONA
Good.
ZAVIER
Did I ever yell at you?
(Yeah)
Did I ever hit you?
(Yeah)
And you lived with me? You couldn't
have actually loved me.
MONA
No, I didn't really. In the
beggining...but...
She starts crying.
ZAVIER
It's okay, I'm not that person anymore,
I promise.
MONA
It's not that. I know that, it's that
I never thought I would tell you these
things. I've been thinking about it
for years.
ZAVIER
Then let it all out. I don't care.
MONA
You thought you were the king. You hit
me when I didn't want to talk to you or
make love to you, and you hit me when I
did want to because it got in the way.
You gave me all of your money, but none
of your love or attention. I wanted to
leave you, but you wouldn't let me. I
wanted to run away, but you'd find me.
I wanted to kill myself.
ZAVIER
I'm sorry.
MONA
I tried once. But, of course, I was
found and revived in time.
A long, very long silence. Zavier looks at Mona's
wrists. There are the faintest traces of massive scars
on them.
MONA
Not even your best technology could
conceal those. Too deep.
ZAVIER
I'm going to be better than the old
Damien. I'll be the new...
Images of his old self flash before his eyes.
ZAVIER
...Damien...
MONA
You okay?
ZAVIER
Yeah, I just...nevermind.
MONA
Are you sure you're okay?
ZAVIER
It's okay, I'm fine.
MONA
You really have changed already.
ZAVIER
How so?
MONA
You don't smoke anymore.
ZAVIER
Yeah, cigarettes are bad for you. I
think...that I used to smoke. Right?
MONA
Right. You remembered something?
ZAVIER
Yeah...It's really...obscure.
MONA
It's something.
ZAVIER
It's wierd. I almost don't want to
remember myself.
MONA
Why?
ZAVIER
I just want to put the past in the
past, look to the future for the fure.
Live forwards.
MONA
You never used to say things like that.
Never. I love you already.
They kiss.
MONA
I love you. I love you so much...
They kiss again.
MONA
...Damien...
INT. ZAVIER'S ROOM
Damien is sleeping, Jen next to him. He is dreaming.
DREAM
INT. WAREHOUSE
Everything is all a blur. Parts of the experience are
fragmented, parts are crystal clear. Damien's memory
fast forwards at incredible speed, and slows down for a
moment, as he puts his gun to Zavier's head. It speeds
up, and slows down as he opens his eyes and sees flames
burning all around him. It speeds up, and slows down as
be begins shooting someone, whose face he does not see.
It speeds up, and slows down as he looks into Zavier's
face, like looking in a mirror...
Then everything explodes.
INT. ZAVIER'S ROOM
Damien wakes with a jolt. He looks around, just a dream.
He wipes a cold sweat from his face, his hands are
shaking. The images are still flashing in front of his
eyes, out of control. He's breathing heavilly.
Jen is still sleeping. Damien sits up, and lights a
cigarette, the images flashing before him slowly waning.
He takes a few heavy drags, deep in thought. Jen opens
her eyes, but doesn't let Damien know she's awake. She
watches him for a moment, then, he takes a few deep, hard
breaths and gets out of bed and storms out of the room.
INT. DAMIEN'S ROOM
Zavier awakens from the same dream, with the same
reaction, images still fluttering by. He looks around
unsure where he is. He gets his bearings, and notices
Mona sleeping near him, not close, but near. He looks at
her, like he's watching her from a distance.
INT. HIDEOUT - BACK ROOM
Damien stalks into the back room, with Zavier's old, beat
up motorcycle inside. He starts putting on some clothes
fit for riding. He notices San standing in the doorway.
DAMIEN
What?
(BEAT)
What, what do you want?
SAN
What do you want?
DAMIEN
I want a fucking answer.
SAN
A motorcycle?
DAMIEN
Just fuck off. I need some time to
think.
SAN
Yes. One can think clearly on a
motorcycle.
DAMIEN
I'm pissed off.
SAN
At what?
DAMIEN
At myself, okay?
He gets on the bike, gets ready to take off.
DAMIEN
I'm pissed off at everything.
He rides off.
INT. SKYSCRAPER - MAINFRAME ENTRANCE
Zavier enters the long white hallway leading to the
mainframe. He looks up at the turret panel in the roof,
then at the security camera. He uses his cardkey and
enters the mainframe.
INT. MAINFRAME
He is sitting at the computer. He enters an area called
ARCHIVES. He then enters an area marked as RESTRICTED
LEVEL 1, then RESTRICTED LEVEL 2. He enters an area,
BLACK OPS. There are numerous files here, on all kinds
of experiments. Zavier enters one of them, and plays a
video.
On the video, there is a scientist in a biological hazard
suit, in a sterile medical zone. There is one person
sitting on a cot, surrounded with life support systems of
all kinds.
SCIENTIST
Virus documentation, tape 4. We found
this person in the slums, suffering
from this new virus.
We walk over to the person on the cot.
SCIENTIST
His nervous system has deteriorated,
he's a vegetable. We've been keeping
him alive to see how far the virus can
progress and get a good look at exactly
what it can do to the human body.
(BEAT)
We've gone through three distinct
stages already, and we estimate that
the virus has been progressing for up
to ten days --
Zavier stops the video. He sees a section labeled as NO-
OPS. He enters it, and reads a few of the experiments
contained inside. BIOLOGICAL WARFARE, CHEMICAL AGENT
TESTING, BRAINWASHING, GENETIC RECOMBINATION, HUMAN
CLONING. He enters the human cloning section, and
watches a video. There is a scientist on it, in a
laboratory.
SCIENTIST
We have been experimenting in the field
of human cloning for some time now.
Countless experiments have failed, but
this one has succeeded. We have
successfully cloned one human --
The audio goes out, but the video continues for a few
seconds, before it becomes corrupted, unviewable. It
turns into static, and Zavier closes it. He clicks on an
article labeled as HUMAN CLONING EXPERIMENT CONCLUSION.
He clicks on it, but a warning comes up: ACCESS DENIED.
He tries it a few more times, but keeps getting denied
access.
The computer eventually dumps him back at the mainframe
starting point. Zavier enters a section: SECURITY TAPES,
RECENT. He opens one video, a video of an empty hallway,
he plays another, a video of some people in an elevator.
He plays one more.
It's a video of Damien sitting in the hospital room with
his dying father. Damien's face cannot be seen, his back
is to the camera. Zavier watches.
DAMIEN
Father...father...
The old man casts a surprised look at Damien.
FATHER
Damien...what are you doing here?
DAMIEN
You wanted to see me.
FATHER
Yes...It's yours.
DAMIEN
What?
FATHER
The corporation. I want to give the
corporation to you.
DAMIEN
Father...
FATHER
It's yours, whatever you want to do, do
it. I'm not here to stop you or argue
with you.
DAMIEN
I can't...
FATHER
Yes, you can.
Silence.
FATHER
But there's something more important
that I have to tell you.
DAMIEN
What is it?
FATHER
This is the one moment of my life that
I have dreaded the most, and not
because I'm dying.
(BEAT)
Before you were born, we worked closely
with all kinds of covert agencies.
Inhumane scientific research, genetic
recombination, biological warfare.
He coughs, and keeps coughing, untill the coughs become
painful and raspy. He stops finally.
DAMIEN
Are you okay?
FATHER
Things were done that I have regretted
untill this day. The thing I regret
most of all is a secret that I kept
from you.
(BEAT)
Damien...
He dies. Zavier looks at "his" face on the screen.
Damien's face on the monitor is filled with something
close to emotion, but is still intense. Zavier's
emotional state is similar.
EXT. SLUMS - STREETS
Damien is racing the bike through the streets of the
slums, pre-dawn light in the sky. He's easilly doing 100
through the empty streets, having a blast.
He makes a hard turn onto a cross street and keeps going.
A couple of mental images flash across his mind, split
second flash backs. He sees a person crossing the
street, and comes to a screeching stop just in time. The
person, scared, has fallen back in the street. Damien
looks, and sees that it's a kid.
DAMIEN
Are you okay?
KID
I'm sorry.
He gets up, and runs away, Damien watches him run. He
sees that the kid doesn't even have any shoes on, and
he's limping on one foot, which is bleeding. The kid
runs into a dark alley, and Damien pauses in thought for
a moment, then starts riding again, but not so fast.
He rides down the street, looks around. He takes it all
in, the slums. He sees a woman sleeping under a street
lamp, some bums camping around a trash-can fire. He
hears some screams from inside a building. He sees a
car, crashed into a lamp post, untouched for years.
He stops by a person in the gutter, some dried blood on
the ground below him. Damien doesn't even get off the
bike, he kicks the person.
DAMIEN
Hey. Hey. Are you okay?
The person doesn't respond, doesn't even move or
anything. He's dead. Damien stares at the body for a
few moments, then takes off down the road.
EXT. BRIDGE
Damien rides along a bridge, but he stops the bike.
There is some activity going on in the dry riverbed under
the bridge. There is a large bonfire burning in the
middle of the street. There are a dozen people in
makeshift Biohazard suits. They are picking things up
out of a couple of trucks, and throwing them into the
fire.
Damien looks closer, and he sees...they are throwing
bodies into the fire. Dead bodies. Damien watches the
workers throw the virus infected bodies into the fire for
a moment. One of the workers stops, and looks at Damien,
they stare at eachother for a moment, but then Damien
guns the engine, and takes off down the road at 200.
EXT. CITY - SKY
A good, high up view of the city skyline, with all it's
skyscrapers and other tall structures. It's daytime now.
A couple of very large helicopters fly past, lead by a
smaller one.
INT. HELICOPTER
Zavier and Wyatt are sitting in this helicopter. Zavier
is looking out the window.
WYATT
Are you okay?
ZAVIER
Just tired. I had this crazy dream...
(BEAT)
Where are we going?
WYATT
Post-crisis zone.
ZAVIER
What's a post-crisis zone?
WYATT
The aftermath of a battle. I deployed
a security force to the slums last
night. It was messy.
ZAVIER
Messy?
WYATT
Messy. We lost five guys out of a team
of twenty. They also lost the cruiser.
The motherfuckers had rocket launchers.
ZAVIER
How many were there?
WYATT
Four.
ZAVIER
What did they do?
WYATT
We suspected them of possession of some
illegal weapons.
ZAVIER
Why did you send an entire force? Why
not invesitgate?
WYATT
They could be using the weapons for any
reason. Fucking us up usually tops the
list of any rebel. They think we're
evil, power-mad, and greedy.
ZAVIER
We did cut their jobs and let their
city rot. We also overpriced the cure
to the virus.
WYATT
Hey, if they can't afford it, it's
their fucking problem.
EXT. STREET
The helicopter flies overhead. The street looks like
there was a full-scale battle fought here. Exploded cars
are lying in the road, rubble is everywhere. One
building has been totally blown apart. The front of it
has collapsed, and he top floor has caved in. Some of
the interior of the building is still in flames.
The chopper lands, and Zavier and Wyatt get out.
ZAVIER
Jesus Christ.
WYATT
I know, isn't it great!
ZAVIER
It looks like a warzone.
WYATT
It is a fucking warzone!
The two larger choppers land at either side of the
warzone, and some medics and clean up crews get out and
go to work. Some police officers start checking out the
building.
WYATT
Come on.
Wyatt leads Zavier through the rubble, untill they are
standing roughly right in the middle of it. Zavier looks
around. Some medics carry a wounded cop past him, and
load him into a chopper.
ZAVIER
Why did you bring me here?
WYATT
I wanted you to see it. This is war,
fucking war! This is what we have to
deal with all the time, massacres.
Zavier sees a piece of rubble from the building, part of
a wall. It's got a symbol painted on it, complex, a
series of intricately woven lines that come together
spherically, all of it is the body of a cobra.
ZAVIER
What's this?
WYATT
Their symbol. Most rebels have it
tattooed somewhere on their body.
Zavier looks into the building, he hears someone screming
inside, a surviving rebel. He sees the cops rush over to
him as fast as they can, and stand around him, hold him
at gunpoint. Wyatt gets a call on his radio.
WYATT
Yeah, what?
Wyatt's words fade into an echo, Zavier is concentrating
on the rebel in the building. He is looking at Zavier,
there is a look of recognition on his bloody face.
Zavier doesn't recognize him at all, though.
WYATT
No, just do it, dammit.
Wyatt puts down his radio, and watches, as a police
officer holds the rebel down with his foot and shoots
him. Wyatt nods, then walks away from Zavier,
supervising the cleanup. Zavier watches another wounded
cop get loaded onto the helicopter. One of the choppers
takes off. The police toss some dead bodies out of the
building and into a crater in the road. A cement mixer
pulls up to the crater and starts filling it with cement.
Wyatt walks up to Zavier.
WYATT
Come on, let's go.
The cops run past him, in line, and go back into the
second chopper. Everything is being loaded up.
WYATT
Let's go!
ZAVIER
We just leave it like this?
WYATT
We cleaned up, we don't need to be here
anymore. Now come on! Let's get the
fuck out of this hell hole!
Wyatt walks over to the chopper, Zavier takes one last
look at the slums around him. It all seems very familiar
to him. He takes one last look at the battlefield, and
goes to his chopper.
INT. HIDEOUT - BACK ROOMS
Charlie is getting ready to go outside. Jen is with him.
JEN
He's gone?
CHARLIE
Yup. He took the bike out last night
and he hasn't come back yet. I'm gonna
take the van and look for him.
JEN
I'm coming.
Jen starts putting some shoes and a coat on. Charlie
finishes what he's doing and is silent for a moment. Jen
notices this, and stops herself.
CHARLIE
There was a battle last night, a big
one. We're gonna check that out first.
JEN
Do you think he's okay?
CHARLIE
I would normally.
(BEAT)
Normally.
JEN
...Let's just get going.
Charlie goes out the door. Jen starts following after
him, but looks back and sees San standing in the room
behind her.
JEN
You saw him? What did he say?
SAN
He wanted an answer.
(BEAT)
He's very confused.
JEN
He took some time to think.
She goes out the door.
INT. ALLEY
Damien is sleeping in an alley, a gun in his hand. He's
dreaming.
DREAM:
All these visions are from the first person. First, we
are looking at Wyatt sitting behind a desk. We are
smoking in the factory. We are aiming a gun at the back
of Zavier's head. We are looking at Mona, who is in a
rage, screaming at us, then we are looking at her
cowering and crying in the corner. We are looking at
ourself in the mirror. We punch the mirror and shatter
it, just as a propane tank in a factory explodes in our
face --
INT. ALLEY
-- Damien wakes up with a scream, he points his gun
straight forward, and shoots the first thing he sees, a
cement wall. He doesn't move for a few moments, trying
ot pull himself back into reality. Split-second Images
are flashing before his eyes.
Damien drops the gun, and clasps his hands around his
head in pain. He winces, then screams. He sees himself
in a standoff with Zavier, and the pain ends.
He recovers.
DAMIEN
Oh, fuck.
The images become shorter, less frequent, and they stop.
Damien grabs the gun and puts it away. He gets up, and
wheels the bike towards the street.
EXT. STREET
He gets just a few feet out of the alley and looks
around. He starts the bike and rides away.
EXT. SKYSCRAPER
There is a glass elevator moving down the face of the
skyscraper.
INT. ELEVATOR
Zavier is alone inside of it. He's looking out at the
city, thinking.
INT. LOBBY
Zavier exits the elevator into the gigantic main lobby,
cuts his way through the people in it.
As he nears the front entrance, he notices the security
soldiers guarding it. Some nasty images of similar
soldiers flash before his eyes. There's something
threatening about them, it makes him nervous. He leaves
through the front entrance.
EXT. STREETS
Zavier takes in a breath of fresh air and starts walking,
cutting through the crowds of people. It's amazing to
him, all the people, how busy it all is, he's never
really experienced anything like this before.
He comes to a corner and stops and waits for a WALK
signal. He looks around, at all the tall buildings
around him, it's really beautiful. He crosses the
street, clashing with a horde of people going the
opposite direction. He makes it through, and keeps
walking.
He looks and sees Harry and his daughter walk past him.
He doesn't recognize Harry, but Harry recognizes him.
Harry stops, but Zavier keeps walking.
HARRY
Zavier! Hey, Zavier!
Zavier is ignoring him, he doesn't know this person.
HARRY
Zavier, what are you doing? Hey!
Harry stops calling and just stands there as Zavier walks
away from him. Zavier looks back, then keeps walking.
HARRY
ZAVIER!!
Harry starts following Zavier, but Zavier keeps walking,
not even glancing back. He hails a taxi. As he's
waiting, he looks back towards Harry, trying to figure
out who he is. He gets inside.
HARRY
ZAVIER!!
The taxi drives away.
INT. CAB
Zavier looks back at a let down Harry as he drives away.
He turns around once he's out of sight.
DRIVER
Where to?
ZAVIER
I don't know, just drive around.
DRIVER
Whatever.
Zavier looks through the window at everything outside,
his mind is a blur. A black van drives past, and for
some reason, Zavier recognizes it. He looks at Jen,
sitting isnide, and, for some reason, he recognizes her.
She doesn't notice him.
INT. MARKETPLACE
Zavier's cab pulls up and he gets out, and suddenly he's
in a busy, open-air marketplace. He walks through it,
this place isn't as metropolitan, the buildings aren't as
tall, the people aren't as gray. He feels a little more
at home here, less alienated.
He enters a sqare, and looks around, people all around,
little vendors all around. He recognizes this place, he
knows it, he's been here before.
He feels his pocket, something should be there, but it's
missing.
EXT. VENDOR'S CART
Zavier approaches the cart.
VENDOR
What do you want?
ZAVIER
Cigarrettes.
INT. ALLEY
Zavier takes a step into a wide alley, just a little bit
out of the way of the crowd, and he lights up a
cigarrette. He takes a long drag, and exhales, more in
relief than to get the smoke out of his lungs. He looks
around, he knows this palce, too. It's all terribly
confusing for him.
After a few moments, some light thunder breaks his train
of thought and it starts sprinkling rain. Zavier steps
under a rooftop and keeps dry, he tosses his cigarrette
on the ground. In doing so, he notices that there are a
hundred other cigarrette butts there, stomped down, rain
soaked.
He looks at a symbol on the wall, he can barely make it
out. Time has eroded the chalk symbol mostly off the
wall, but from what Zavier can make out, it's an
upsidedown heart. Interesting. He walks away.
EXT. STREET - COMMERCIAL DISTRICT
A messy looking Damien is cruising his motorcycle through
the streets of one of the commercial districts, passing
through an area where Zavier just was. Looking around,
he realizes that he knows this street, these buildings,
he's been here before.
Disoriented and confused, he drives his bike into an
alley and parks it where it's safe from the rain.
INT. ALLEY
He walks through some of the back alleys, a little
nervous. He emerges onto the sidewalk and merges into
the dwindling river of people flowing through it.
He reaches a corner, and waits to cross the street, but
when the time comes, he doesn't. He looks in another
direction, sees an impossibly tall building there. It's
a skyscraper, with a logo on it: PLANETRON.
Drenched in rain, he starts walking closer to it. It's
across the street from him, but he has a better view from
where he is.
He stops, directly in front of and below it. He looks up
at it. He's not amazed at it's height or anything, it's
all very normal to him.
He sits down on a bench built into the side of the
nearest building, where he's safe from the rain. He
lights up a cigarette and starts smoking it, never taking
his eyes off the skyscraper. He thinks.
He looks at a pane of glass on a bus stop, and looks at
his reflection in it, distorted. He stares at his own
reflection for a few moments, then gets up and walks
towards the Planetron tower.
EXT. SKYSCRAPER - ENTRANCE
Damien walks up to the skysraper and stands in front of
it, looks up it once more, then proceeds to walk inside.
He almost reaches the front entrance, but some security
personel stop him.
OFFICER
Do you work here?
DAMIEN
No.
OFFICER
You can't enter this building.
DAMIEN
I just want to have a look inside.
OFFICER
You'll have to --
DAMIEN
(Dead serious)
Get out of my way. Now.
The officers pause, glance at eachother. Damien is
pretty intimidating, but not very much so to a cop
wearing 100 pounds of gear.
DAMIEN
Pretty please?
The security soldiers grab him under the arms and carry
him towards the gutter, then they throw him into it.
OFFICER
Fucking lowlife.
The officers go back to their posts, and Damien is left
lying in the gutter. He pulls himself back to his feet,
and looks up at the skyscraper for a second time. The
guards cast cold looks at him. He throws them right
back, but colder. Then he walks away.
EXT. HIGH ROOFTOP
Damien is standing atop a very high rooftop. Yes, it's
high, but it's nothing compared to the Planetron tower,
which can be seen only a few blocks away. Damien makes
his way to the ledge and looks down. He gets back.
He crouches near the ledge, and just looks out onto all
the high rooftops, the traffic, the people. He looks
through the windows into the office and conference rooms.
He looks up, as a helicopter passes by overhead, heading
towards the Planetron tower.
He looks at the sun. It is setting, and a slight pink
and gold hue can be seen through the rainclouds and
pollution. Somehow it's beautiful.
Through all the honking cars, the rain noise, and the
helicopters, Damien somehow finds the space to think...
INT. MONORAIL CAR
Zavier is riding in a raised monorail car filled with
people who are on their way to the slums. The car exits
a tunnel, and Zavier can see the slums through the
window. It's moving by very fast, but not fast enough,
because it's an ugly sight.
Zavier doesn't really think so, he's interested, he knows
these streets, these buildings. He knows them by heart.
The monorail comes to a stop inside a station, and the
doors open, and everyone gets out. Zavier doesn't, he
looks out the window at the slums, then at the door, it's
still open. He looks out the window one more time, then
decides to get off the train.
EXT. MONORAIL STATION
Zavier barely slips through the doors as they close and
the train takes off. Once it passes, Zavier gets a
clearer, better view of the slums, from a few floors up.
He scans everything he can see, intent on knowing more
about it.
He goes to the stairs and descends them down to the
street.
EXT. SIDEWALK
Zavier gets onto the sidewalk, looks around and walks
aimlessly for a few moments.
INT. ALLEY
Zavier is walking through a dark alley, the rain dripping
down all around him.
EXT. STREET
He gets to the street, waits for a car to pass, then runs
across and into another alley.
EXT. STREET
He starts crossing another street, but something catches
his eye, he looks back, and sees the hacker's house. He
looks at it for a moment, recognizing it, but a car honks
at him. He gets out of the road, the car passes, and
Zavier starts walking down the sidewalk.
INT. ALLEY
Elsewhere and later, Zavier is walking another alley. He
stops when he sees a group of dangerous looking guys walk
down the street at the other end. Instincts tell him to
avoid them. He turns, then turns again and starts
walking, but he stops when he sees something he knows.
It's the side entrance to the hideout.
He steps up to it, and looks closely, extremely
interested, he KNOWS he's been here before. He steps up
onto the porch, looks around for people.
He places his hand on the doorknob, and turns it. He
begins to open the door, but it's locked. Zavier looks
at the locks. One is a numeric keypad. He thinks for a
second, and punches in a number. The right number.
The lock beeps, and this alerts the people inside.
CHARLIE (V.O.)
(Through the wall)
Zavier?!
Zavier panics, then jumps off the porch and runs away
down the alley as fast as he can.
INT. ALLEY
Zavier runs into another alley as fast as he can. He
trips, and rolls on the ground. He doesn't get up, he
just sits there for a moment, thinking about what just
happened. He starts getting up, but he just sits, leans
against a wall and starts smoking a cigarrette.
INT. MONORAIL
Zavier is riding the monorail back into the commercial
district. He is confused and terrified. A motorcycle
drives by under the raised track.
INT. SLUMS
Damien is riding his bike through the slums, very fast,
having fun. He races right past the hideout and makes a
hard turn down a cross street.
EXT. HARRY'S HOUSE
He stops the bike outside of Harry's house with a loud,
loud screech. It's still raining pretty hard. He gets
off the bike and looks at the house. Thunder sounds, and
he walks up to it, popping his knuckles.
He rings the doorbell.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE
Harry opens the door and sees Damien outside, soaked in
the rain, acting miserable.
HARRY
Hey.
He looks at Damien through the screen door, looking
pretty sullen.
DAMIEN
Can I come in? I'm soaking out here.
HARRY
Sure.
Harry opens the screen door and Damien steps inside.
HARRY
You know, man...What the fuck was with
that?
Damien makes a fist, ready to strike, but he sees little
Caitlin standing behind Harry, and he doesn't. She
smiles at him.
HARRY
Man, what the fuck? Why are you even
here?
Damien walks past Harry and descends the staircase to the
basement.
INT. BASEMENT
Damien enters and sees many many vials of the cure.
Hundreds. Thousands.
HARRY
What the fuck?!
DAMIEN
All this stuff...it's worth a lot of
money, right?
Harry doesn't answer, he's kind of stunned. Damien casts
a cold look back at him.
DAMIEN
Right?
HARRY
...Yeah.
There is silence for a moment. Harry smiles nervously.
HARRY
You know this stuff isn't for sale,
it's --
DAMIEN
I don't know who I am. It's more than
just amnesia.
(BEAT)
It's like...I'm another...I'm a
different person than...
HARRY
Just chill out.
(BEAT)
So did you come here for help or
something? Because I can't fucking
tell you who you are.
Damien thinks for a moment, but gets fed up, he punches
Harry in the face, throwing him back into the wall. He
has flashbacks about thrashing Wyatt numerous times.
Damien uppercuts Harry in the gut a few times, then
throws him into another wall and kicks him a couple of
times. Harry slumps to the floor, bloody and broken, and
starts crawling around.
Damien grabs a bag out of the corner and then starts
packing the precious vials into compact cases, and
putting them in the bag.
Harry comes at him from behind with a baseball bat, but
Damien dodges him, then wrestles the bat out of his hands
and hits him with it a few times.
He starts smashing everything he sees. Every vial of the
cure in sight gets smashed. He leaves Harry with nothing
to distribute. He grabs his bag and heads up the stairs.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE
Damien comes up the stairs. Caitling is sitting on the
floor, crying. Damien looks at her for a moment a little
bit of emotion crosses his face, then he hurries out the
door.
EXT. HARRY'S HOUSE
Damien dashes to his bike, gets on and revvs the engine.
He takes off so fast that he does a wheelie down the
street, and he's out of sight.
EXT. SKYSCRAPER
Damien walks back up to his skyscraper. He starts
walking in through the front entrance. The security
soldiers approach and stop him.
OFFICER
I thought I told you not to come back.
You can NOT enter this building, sir.
ZAVIER
What? I work here.
He pulls out an ID card and shows it to them. They
realize their mistake.
OFFICER
Sorry, sir, our mistake, you just
looked like someone else. Go right in.
Zavier does, and he looks back at them suspiciously.
INT. ELEVATOR
Zavier is riding the elevator way up. The looks on his
face is even more confused and terrified. He sees his
own extremely distorted reflection in the elevator
window, he looks closely at it.
ZAVIER
Who are you?
The doors open, and Zavier walks out.
INT. DAMIEN'S ROOM
Zavier enters the room.
ZAVIER
I'm back.
She's not there. Zavier sits down at a desk and leans
back for a moment. He sees a piece of white paper off to
the side. He cocks his head, thinking. He grabs the
paper, and then a pencil, and he starts drawing
something, but he stops to tear the bandage off of his
hand. He resumes drawing, with great skill.
INT. DAMIEN'S ROOM - LATER
Mona enters the room.
MONA
Hey, baby.
ZAVIER
(detached, drawing)
Hey...
She rubs his shoulders, then she sees three beautiful
pictures sitting on the desk.
MONA
Oh my god.
She picks them up, looks at them.
MONA
These are beautiful. Did you draw
these?
ZAVIER
Yeah.
MONA
That's amazing.
We see that she is looking at three pictures, all of them
perfect recreations of their subjects. They are just of
faces, in various settings from various angles. The
first one is Charlie, the second one is San, and the
third one is Harry.
MONA
How did you do these?
ZAVIER
I just drew them.
MONA
You can't draw.
ZAVIER
Really? Huh. I guess I can now.
MONA
Who are these guys?
ZAVIER
I don't...know. It's wierd. They just
came to me.
She sets the drawings down, as Zavier finishes drawing
his last picture.
MONA
Who's this?
She picks it up, it's a picture of Jen, smiling, looking
down, set against the brick wall of her and Zavier's
room.
ZAVIER
I don't know.
MONA
This is too wierd.
ZAVIER
Do you think I knew them before?
MONA
I don't think so. I don't think I've
ever seen any of them before.
ZAVIER
I don't think I have either.
MONA
This could be a good sign. Maybe
you'll remember everything after all.
ZAVIER
Maybe.
Mona gives Zavier his picture back, and he neatens all of
them up and sets them down.
ZAVIER
I'm like...not sure about myself or
anything. You know?
(BEAT)
I'm like...it's like none of this fits.
None of this fits together. I don't
fit into this place. I've got all
these puzzle pieces I have to put
together, but it's not MY puzzle.
Nothing makes sense. What I know and
what I should know don't match up.
(BEAT)
I don't belong here.
Images start flashing in his eyes.
MONA
Are you okay?
ZAVIER
My head hurts.
(BEAT)
I don't think I am who I am.
MONA
Who are you, then?
ZAVIER
I am not me.
EXT. STREETS - COMMERCIAL DISTRICT
Damien is riding his bike through the commercial
district, not fast or anything, but definitely not slow.
He feels a sudden pain in his head, and closes his eyes,
grunts. He opens his eyes and skids out of the way of
some oncoming traffic. He skids onto the sidewalk and
stumbles into a crowded square.
INT. SQUARE
He sits on a bench for a few moments, huge, vivid,
violent images flashing in his mind. He can't stop them,
he can't ignore them. He starts screaming, but it only
comes out as a whisper.
He starts punching the bench, making fists. Suddenly,
the pain stops, and Damien is unconscious on the bench,
dreaming.
DREAM:
He's having a very very vivid dream of the warehouse
battle. He is standing in an office, holding a gun to
the back of Zavier's head. They are speaking.
DAMIEN
Don't move. Put your gun down.
Zavier doesn't put his gun down.
DAMIEN
Put your fucking gun down!
Zavier does.
DAMIEN
I'm going to enjoy this. Hear me! Do
you fucking hear me?!
We start tp say something more, but -- suddenly, we are
running through the burning warehouse, towards Zavier.
He puts his gun to Zavier's head.
Zavier whips around, and aims his gun in our face.
Suddenly, we are looking at our own reflection in a pane
of glass on a bus stop, very distorted, by rain water, a
little bit of grime and some curves in the glass.
Slowly, very slowly, our reflection becomes clearer,
untill it becomes real, and untill it becomes Zavier
aiming his gun in our face.
Then everything explodes.
EXT. SQUARE
Damien awakens with an extremely loud, disturbing,
frightened scream. He opens his eyes to the sky, pulls
his gun out and shoots at the first hing he sees moving,
which just so happens to be a commuter on his way to
work.
He shoots the next thing he sees, another commuter, then
he shoots a couple more, he starts shooting wildly, and
then he starts shooting at cars. He hits the gas tank of
one car and it starts leaking
The gun is empty, and the clip falls out, and when it
clanks on the ground, Damien comes back to reality. He
realizes where he is. He looks at all the people
running, hiding and cowering. He looks at all the dead
bodies around him, then at the gun in his hand. He drops
the gun, terrified, and runs.
He gets to the sidewalk, when the leaking gas tank
explodes. Damien is thrown to the ground, he looks back,
the car is burning, and so are some other cars around it.
He gets up and gets on his bike and rides away as fast as
the bike can go, which is a good 200. Sirens can be
heard in the distance.
INT. SLUMS
Damien rides the bike through the slums, still doing
about 200. He's stirred, even cold blooded Damien is
terrified by all this.
He deftly manuevers around some turns, untill he can see
the hideout just down the street.
DAMIEN
Home....
He keeps his course towards it, and his eyes on it. He
doesn't see the car coming at him sideways. An old, beat
up sedan plows into him and throws him off the bike and
through the air at least 20 feet. He lands on top of his
bag, shattering whatever's inside. He winds up in the
the intersection.
The sedan races away from the scene. Damien looks at his
bike, which is sitting a few feet away from him. He sees
his own face reflected in the rearview mirror, bloody.
He reaches for the reflection, but he passes out, and he
is left unconscious in the middle of the road.
INT. DAMIEN'S ROOM
Mona is sound asleep, Zavier is not sleeping with her.
He's out of bed, in the bathroom, hands on the sink,
looking at himself in the mirror. He's just staring into
his own eyes in the mirror.
ZAVIER
Who are you...?
INT. LOBBY
Some city police are making their way through the lobby.
A SWAT team of ten guys, not counting their leader, who
wears heavier armor than the rest. They get in the
elevators and go up.
INT. BATHROOM
Zavier becomes increasingly frustrated with his
reflection. He sticks out his hand to try to push his
reflection away, but he notices something on his hand.
INT. SECURITY HQ - GLASS ROOM
Wyatt looks at a series of monitors on the wall, showing
feeds from security cameras all over the building. Wyatt
sees all the SWAT cops moving through the building. He
goes to the window and looks into the security center.
There are some cops moving in and taking over.
WYATT
Shit.
INT. BATHROOM
Zavier looks closely at his scarred hand. For the most
part, the burnt skin has been regrown, but there is a
little thing that catches his attention. He looks at it.
It's part of his hand that wasn't burned, there's the
remnants of a tattoo there.
The phone rings in the bedroom, but Zavier ignores it.
He looks at the tattoo. It's distorted, but he can make
out just a little teeny tiny bit of it. All he can see
of it is the head of a cobra. It's the rebel symbol.
This seals the deal.
ZAVIER
Oh my God....
He clutches his hand and squeezes it as hard as he can.
He takes a look at himself in the mirror, then punches
and shatters it, screams. Mona rushes in. Zavier starts
breaking up, he looks like he's on the verge of tears,
he's speechless.
MONA
What's the matter?
INT. GLASS ROOM
Wyatt locks the door of the room and pulls out his cell
phone. He dials a number.
INT. BATHROOM
Zavier collapses onto the bathroom counter and starts
screaming as loud as he can. Mona embraces him, alarmed.
MONA
Damien?! Damien!!
They eventually grow silent, and they hear the phone
ringing. Zavier looks at it.
MONA
I'll get it.
ZAVIER
No.
He walks towards the phone.
INT. BEDROOM
He picks up the phone.
WYATT (V.O.)
Davier...listen. We're being
comandeered by the police. They want
you, Damien, and...
He keeps talking, but someone knocks on the door.
COP
(Through door)
Open up! This is the police!
Zavier pulls the phone away from his ear and looks at the
door. He hangs the phone up and looks at Mona. She
looks like she wants to answer the door.
ZAVIER
No.
Zavier pulls open a desk drawer and pulls out a gun.
MONA
Damien, what are you doing?
ZAVIER
Ssshhh.
He motions for her to get down, and she does.
MONA
Damien!
He ignores her, goes to the door as it gets knocked on
once more.
COP
This is the police! Open the door
right now!
Zavier looks through the peephole.
P.O.V. ZAVIER
He sees the cops waiting outside. One of them kicks the
door.
INT. BEDROOM
The cops keep kicking the door. Zavier runs away, and
hides behind his desk. The cops get the door open, enter
the room guns first, scanning.
LEADER
Hello? Whoever's in here, come out
right now.
(BEAT)
Come out right now or we will be forced
to open fire.
Zavier can see Mona hiding in the bathroom. He motions
for her to keep quiet and keep down.
One cop opens the door and sees Mona. Before he can tell
anyone else, Zavier shoots him. He keeps firing and
takes down two other guys.
LEADER
Fire!
The police start shooting, tearing the room apart, they
shoot for a good several seconds, loading the room with
lead, perforating it. Zavier is safe, though, and so is
Mona. The cops start running out the door.
Zaveir looks at Mona, then out the door. There's no one
who can see him. He gets ready to run. He watches for a
moment, then takes off and runs towards the bathroom.
The cops fire through the doorway at him, but miss.
Zavier grabs a submachinegun off of a dead body and dives
into the bathroom.
INT. BATHROOM
Mona is scared out of her mind.
MONA
Damien, what the fuck is going on?
ZAVIER
I have no idea.
MONA
Just go, surrender. Please.
He peeks out the door, not listening.
ZAVIER
Okay, we're going to run and hide
behind that desk, it's not safe in
here.
MONA
But they're waiting for us.
ZAVIER
I know, you have to run fast. I'll
cover you. You're gonna be fine, okay?
MONA
...Okay.
ZAVIER
Stay behind me, okay?
He takes her hand and they stand up and get ready to run.
Zavier peeks around the corner, and nearly gets his head
blown off. He fires a few shots blindly around the
corner, and pulls Mona out of the bathroom.
INT. BEDROOM
While the cops are scared back, Zavier and Mona run for
the desk. A few shots are fired at them, but miss. They
get behind the desk.
ZAVIER
You okay?
MONA
Yeah..
ZAVIER
I was right, Mona, I'm not who I think
I am.
MONA
Who are you?
ZAVIER
A rebel, I think.
Mona looks at Zavier's hand, sees the remnants of the
tattoo.
MONA
...What are you going to do?
ZAVIER
I have to get out of this building.
MONA
How?
ZAVIER
I have no idea.
The cops shoot at them, and they get down. The cops
start moving into the room, slowly, surely, cautiously,
checking it out. Zavier gets Mona in the corner. One of
the cops looks behind the desk and gets gunned down.
All the other cops start firing at the desk. They move
into different locations, the bathroom, outside the door,
around a corner. The firing stops, and Zavier looks over
the desk to check it out.
Zavier takes a couple of deep breaths, and prepares.
Suddenly, he springs to his feet, and starts shooting at
everyone. The cops shoot back, and Zavier manages to
dodge their shots. He takes down three guys, then takes
cover again. He shoots around the desk and takes down
the last few guys.
He waits for a moment, then springs back onto his feet
again, looks around. All's clear. Mona stands up, too.
MONA
Fuck.
Zavier starts salvaging what he can off of the dead
bodies of the soldiers. He pulls a keycard off the
leader, labeled ALL-ACCESS.
MONA
Damien...
He looks at her.
MONA
I guess I shouldn't call you that
anymore, right?
ZAVIER
I don't know. We have to keep moving.
He leads Mona out of the room.
EXT. HALLWAY
They enter the hallway, Zavier is scanning around with
his submachinegun.
ZAVIER
Twice as many will be up here in under
five minutes. You have to get out of
here.
MONA
What about you?
ZAVIER
I have some things to take care of.
MONA
You're staying?!
ZAVIER
I can take care of myself.
They get to the elevator, and Zavier hits the call
switch. It arrives, the doors open and Zavier rushes
Mona inside.
MONA
Will I ever see you again?
ZAVIER
I don't know.
They kiss, a little awkward now.
MONA
Goodbye.
ZAVIER
Goodbye.
MONA
I love you...
Zavier says nothing, and the doors close.
INT. HIDEOUT - ZAVIER'S ROOM
Damien is asleep on Zavier's bed. He opens his eyes and
looks around. He has bandages all over him. He tries to
sit up, but it's too painful. So he lies back down. Jen
enters the room, and Damien looks at her, ashamed,
embarassed, scared.
JEN
Hey. Are you alright?
Jen sits down by the mattress and there is a long,
awkward pause.
DAMIEN
I'm sorry.
INT. ROOM
We are inside a room of an abandoned building across the
street, looking through an open window at the hideout.
There is a small contraption in the windowsill. A laser
microphone. A SWAT cop listens in.
DAMIEN (V.O.)
I'm really sorry.
He starts sniffling.
INT. SKYSCRAPER
Zavier is running through the hallways of the tower,
looking around every corner, making sure that no cops are
waiting around them.
He gets to a window, and looks outside. A police
helicopter with a gunner and a searchlight passes by
outside, and Zavier starts moving again. A voice comes
on over the intercom.
POLICE (V.O.)
Attention, this is the police. We have
full control over the building. We
have sealed off all exits. Everyone in
the building report to the main front
lobby. We have the building locked
down and secure.
Zavier gets into an elevator.
INT. ELEVATOR
He gets in and closes the doors. He hits the button for
the very top floor of the building, and the elevator
starts moving. Zavier looks through the window into the
night sky.
POLICE (V.O.)
Again, would all people in the building
report to the main front lobby.
Failure to do so will result in your
arrest. We have full control over the
building.
Zavier rides the elevator smoothly for a moment, when
suddenly it lurches to a stop. Zavier tries hitting some
buttons, but it does no good, the elevator is locked
down.
He stops for a moment, listens. He can hear the rotors
of a helicopter getting closer and closer by the second.
He reaches up and pops open the access panel in the roof
of the elevator.
A police helicopter hovers up level to the elevator,
shining it's searchlight in through the window.
PILOT
(Megaphone)
You, in the elevator, drop your weapons
and place your hands on top of your
head!
Zavier pulls himself up through the access panel.
INT. ELEVATOR SHAFT
He gets up on top of the elevator. He looks all the way
up the slightly slanted elevator shaft.
PILOT
(Megaphone)
I repeat, place your hands on top of
your head!
Zavier climbs up the ladder on the side of the elevator
shaft.
PILOT
(Megaphone)
Stop, or we will open fire!
Zavier stops climbing and hangs off the ladder with one
hand. He fires his gun with the other. He hits the
chopper a couple of times, and it immediately returns
fire.
Zavier manages to hide in a tiny little space, while the
helicopter's 20mm chaingun tears up the elevator shaft.
One bullet breaks the elevator cable, and the elevator
plummets to the ground, leaving nothing between Zavier
and the ground but some air.
The chopper is still firing. It has totally blown away a
couple of huge glass panels on the side of the shaft. It
stops firing, and Zavier resumes climbing. He sees a
ventilation duct above him, leading inside. But it's
closed. He shoots it and blows it open, and then starts
climbing towards it.
The chopper starts shooting again, and Zavier stops
climbing and hides. After a few seconds, it stops
shooting. The polcie start waiting for him again.
Zavier reaches the open ventilation shaft.
The choppers starts firing again, just trying to scare
him. Zavier fires his rifle-mounted grenade launcher
through the shattered window at the chopper.
PILOT
(Megaphone)
Grenade!
The chopper banks to dodge it, and the grenade flies
right past it, exploding in midair a short distance
later. The chopper backs off from the window. Zavier
takes a peek at it. It appears to be just sitting idly,
but to Zavier this is a bad sign.
He tosses his rifle into the vent shaft and starts
crawling in.
EXT. HELICOPTER
A rocket tube pops open, and a rocket flies out.
INT. ELEVATOR SHAFT
The rocket flies through the window and explodes. Zavier
barely slips into the vent.
INT. SECURITY HQ
Wyatt and the commander of the police operation are
watching a security camera feed from inside a stairwell.
A grate on a vent shaft pops out, and Zavier slips out.
INT. STAIRWELL
He looks up, at least twenty floors untill the top of the
building, so he starts running.
He gets up three floors when he hears a door burst open
below him. A SWAT team enters the stairwell at the same
place Zavier did. They start chasing Zavier up the
stairs. Zavier climbs the stairs as quickly and as
silently as possible.
The lights in the stairwell go out. Zavier starts
feeling his way around. He stops and looks down. There
are a dozen laser pointers dancing around two levels
below him. He reaches the top of the stairs, and
switches on the flashlihgt on his submachinegun.
He looks at the door, and sees that it's got an
electronic lock. He swipes his keycard, but it doesn't
work. The cops are just one level below him. He pulls
out the SWAT leader's all-access card, and this opens the
door.
INT. HALLWAY
He enters the hallway and shuts the door behind him. He
runs towards the security leading into the security
hallway, scans his fingerprint speedily, and goes inside.
INT. SECURITY HALLWAY
He runs down the hallway and gets to the big door. The
police are trying to enter the door behind him. He
inserts his card, but the door doesn't open. He twists
the card, the door opens and he goes inside the
mainframe.
INT. MAINFRAME
Zavier hits a button on the door reading LOCK. He runs
up to the computer terminal and starts using it.
INT. HALLWAY
The police put some plastic explosives around the
doorframe and stand back.
INT. SECURITY HALLWAY
The door is blown down with a rather large explosion.
The fire sprinklers activate and the automated turret
drops down from the ceiling and waits, it's 20mm cannon
aimed at the entrance to the hallway.
After the smoke from the explosion clears, some cops run
into the hallway, but before they can take more than two
steps, the turret blows them all away. No more cops
follow them.
INT. MAINFRAME
Zavier accesses the building's security controls, and
unlocks every door in the building, disables every camera
and other security device, reactivates the elevators and
turns power back on wherever it was shut off. He then
locks it all.
INT. SECURITY HQ - OBSERVATION ROOM
The commander is slightly alarmed, panic breaks out in
the room below.
COMMANDER
What's happening?
WYATT
He's making changes from the mainframe
computer. It's totally secure, we
can't do anything about it.
COMMANDER
Goddamnit!
The commander gets on his radio.
COMMANDER
Get all the guys to the mainframe and
get this motherfucker!
INT. MAINFRAME
Zavier pulls up a file on "himself", or, Damien. He
looks it over. He goes down to SIBLINGS, but it says
that Damien has no siblings at all.
INT. SECURITY HALLWAY
The police try shooting out the turret, but it does no
good, it has bulletproof shields. It takes some of the
shooters down. One cop hurls a grenade at the turret.
It explodes, and as the smoke clears, we see that the
turret is unharmed.
INT. MAINFRAME
Zavier dials a phone number on the computer.
INT. SECURITY HQ - GLASS ROOM
Wyatt's cell phone rings, and he answers it.
WYATT
Damien?
ZAVIER (V.O.)
What's going on?
INTERCUT AS NECESSARY
ZAVIER
Tell me what's going on!
WYATT
What do you think?!
ZAVIER
I have no fucking idea!
INT. GLASS ROOM
COMMANDER
What's he saying?
Wyatt covers the phone and speaks to him.
WYATT
He says he doesn't know.
INT. SECURITY HALLWAY
The police toss some smoke grenades into the hallway,
osbtructing the turret's vision. They start running in.
P.O.V. TURRET
But it sees in infrared. It targets the heat of their
bodies and starts taking them out.
EXT. SECURITY HALWAY
The cops waiting outside hear the gunfire. The smoke
clears, and the cops see a few more dead bodies lying in
the hallway.
They start readying a small device, like a grenade
constructed of two small cylinders, with an electronic
timer. It is labeled as an EMP grenade.
INT. MAINFRAME
Zavier pulls up a file, a recent news article. There is
a large picture of the town square that Damien's shooting
took place in. A couple of cars have burned to a crisp,
and numerous dead bodies lay on the ground.
ZAVIER
Oh my God.
He sees a picture of himself, or, Damien elsewhere in the
article. He reads the caption: THE FINGERPRINTS FOUND ON
THE GUN BELONG TO THE NEW CEO OF PLANETRON, INC, DAMIEN
MAYNARD.
Zavier is a little shocked.
INTERCUT AS NECESSARY
ZAVIER
Wyatt, I did NOT kill those people.
WYATT
Damien...your fucking fingerprints were
on the gun, your fucking DNA was at the
scene.
ZAVIER
It was not me.
INT. GLASS ROOM
Wyatt pauses for a moment, glances at the gruff SWAT
commander.
WYATT
Damien...give it up.
Zavier hangs up the phone.
INT. SECURITY HALLWAY
The police toss the EMP grenade into the hallway and it
lands under the turret. A tiny red light starts blinking
on it. An LCD timer on the grenade coutns down, to 1 and
-- nothing happens. The grenade makes a sound that
resembles an electric short. It's red light flickers
out, as does the one on the turret. The cops peek around
the corner, the turret has been disabled.
INT. MAINFRAME
Zavier accesses security and looks at the security camera
feed in the hallway, but the camera was blown up. He
looks at it through another camera, sees the cops.
Zavier starts looking around for an escape route. He
sees a panel in the floor by the processors. It is
labeled: CPU COOLING. He starts trying to open it, but
then the big door partially explodes. It comes loose,
but not totally. Zavier uses his keycard to raise all
the processors in the room, to confuse the police.
They blow the big door in totally, and they start
flooding into the room. Zavier, in plan sight, moves
back into the processors and hides. The police move in
and hide behind some mobile barriers. There are at least
two dozen of them. They all scan the room for Zavier,
but he's hidden.
The police start firing gas grenades all around, and the
room becomes filled with smoke. Some SWAT cops start
prowling the room, checking it out.
Zavier jumps out at one cop and knocks him out. He
steals his gas mask and weapon, and then hurries towards
the cooling system. He turns a heavy duty lock and pulls
the panel open. He jumps in hastilly, and lets it slam
behind him.
INT. HIDEOUT - ZAVIER'S ROOM
Damien and Jen are still talking. Jen is sitting closer
to Damien than she was before.
JEN
What got into you?
DAMIEN
I don't know, I just...lost control of
myself, totally.
JEN
You went crazy.
DAMIEN
No, I just...
JEN
Do you know how much damage you've
done? You destroyed so much of our
work. There are two vials intact.
Two.
DAMIEN
I'm sorry.
(BEAT)
I know I haven't been myself and I'm
not sure if you trust me. But I mean
it. I'm sorry.
They stare at eachother for a moment.
JEN
How come I love you so much?
DAMIEN
You're a big idiot.
JEN
You're the big idiot.
DAMIEN
You are.
They don't kiss.
JEN
You're amazing. You barely survived
the day and you can still talk sweet.
DAMIEN
It's natural.
They laugh.
DAMIEN
I don't know...I think I've been
venting everything. But now...
JEN
I hope so.
DAMIEN
I don't want to be like this anymore.
I'm not like this, I don't feel like
this.
INT. ROOM
There is a SWAT team of about twenty guys in here, all of
them are prepping for a major attack.
INT. ZAVIER'S ROOM
DAMIEN
I've just been fighting myself. I feel
like I've been fighting with myself my
entire life.
(BEAT)
My dark side just got the better of me.
JEN
We all have different sides, it's part
of who we are.
They look at eachother for a moment.
DAMIEN
How's Harry?
JEN
Same as you, pretty roughed up.
(BEAT)
I think he might find it somewhere in
him to forgive you. You go back a long
way.
DAMIEN
What about Charlie?
JEN
Charlie's fine, he...he's pretty pissed
off.
DAMIEN
What about San?
JEN
San is...not one to take sides. He's
got the whole inner balance thing going
on. He never goes too much in one
direction. That's how he is.
There is a moment of silence. All of this stuff is for
real, Damien isn't lying or manipulating. He's telling
the honest-to-God truth.
JEN
I'm glad you're alive.
DAMIEN
I'm glad you still love me.
They kiss slowly, truly passionately.
INT. ARMORY
Zavier drops down from a ventillation shaft into an
armory. He looks around, guns galore, gear galore, he's
in paradise here.
FAST CUTS:
Zavier strapping on a full body black bulletproof suit
just like the one he used to wear. Him loading a pair of
high power pistols, holstering them, then loading osme
high power submachineguns and holstering them, then
loading a high power assault rifle and slinging it over
his shoulder.
He exits the armory.
INT. OBSERVATORY
Zavier peeks around a corner and looks into an
observatory, a large room with one wall made entirely of
glass, allowing for a perfect observation of the city
outside. There is a main area of the room, then twenty
foot long desks on either side of the room, perpendicular
to the window. It's dark in this room. He sees two cops
prowling around.
One of them stops by a corner. Zavier reaches around the
corner and grabs him and pulls him into the shadows.
Zavier then starts beating him up. Another guy hears
this, and looks, sees nothing. He goes to check it out.
Zavier jumps out of the shadows, grabs the guy's rifle
out of his hands, kicks him in the chest, then throws him
head first into another wall, knocking him unconscious.
Zavier heads for the elevator, just when a dozen cops
burst into the room. He sees them, and they see him, and
they immediately start shooting eachother.
All the cops fire everything they've got at Zavier, and
they totally destroy one corner of the room. Zavier
dives behind one of the desks, and the firing stops.
The cops hide behind the desk at the opposite side of the
room. Zavier peeks around the corner, all the cops are
just waiting for him to show himself. All is quiet for a
moment, then Wyatt stands up from among the cops.
WYATT
Give it up, Damien.
ZAVIER
I'm not Damien.
WYATT
You're not right in the head.
ZAVIER
You don't understand.
WYATT
I talked these guys into giving you one
chance to live. Surrender right now or
they start shooting.
Zavier still says nothing. He peeks over his cover spot,
and makes eye contact with Wyatt. They look at eachother
for a moment.
WYATT
What's it gonna be, Damien?
Zavier shoots Wyatt in the shoulder. Wyatt gets down.
WYATT
FIRE!!
All the cops fire at Zavier, but he hides. They stop
firing and put on gas masks. They start launching tear
gas grenades all over the room. The room fills up with
pink smoke.
Zavier holds his breath. The cops start firing at him
again, but he hides. He closes his eyes and throws a
grenade in the general direction of the big window.
It explodes, and the big window is totally shattered.
All the tear gas starts floating outside and the fire
sprinklers come on. Once the gas is all gone, Zavier
takes a deep breath of fresh air. He looks around the
corner, and sees that there are three cops headed his
way. He guns them down and takes cover again as the rest
of the cops shoot at him.
Zavier hears a helicopter flying closer and closer
outside the window. It hovers in front of the huge
opening, and shines it's spotlight inside. It fires at
Zavier's cover. Most of the bullets punch all the way
through it, and Zavier moves to avoid them. The chopper
stops firing, and just waits. Zavier waits as well,
trying to think of a decent way out. He reloads his
weapons.
Zavier peeks over his cover, and sees the cops in the
room standing up, aiming. Zavier fires wildly in their
general direction and scares them down.
He then jumps over his desk out into the open and runs
right at the chopper. He dives out the window towards
it.
EXT. HELICOPTER
He grabs onto a landing ski and dangles from it
helplessly for a moment. The cops inside the room fire a
few shots at him, but none of them hit.
A cop leans out the side of the chopper to shoot Zavier,
but Zavier shoots him first, and he falls off, six
hundred feet down to the ground.
Zavier pulls himself up into the chopper and shoos the
second guy. He shoots the pilot through the back of the
seat. He crawls into the cockpit, and pulls the pilot's
body out of the way and sits down. The chopper is
drifting out of control.
All the cops in the observatory fire at the chopper.
They shatter the windows, but most of the bullets that
hit elsewhere are deflected.
EXT. CHOPPER
The cops start concentrating on the rotor housing on top
of the chopper, they hit it, and it starts smoking and
making nasty noises.
INT. CHOPPER
Zavier sees a CHECK ENGINE warning light flashing at him.
He sets the chopper up to hold it's position, and then
goes into the back. The cops are still firing
relentlessly at the chopper.
Zavier opens an emergency supply box and pulls out a
parachute. He straps it on. Then he grabs the controls,
and sends the chopper into the building. He then jumps
out of it.
INT. OBSERVATORY
Everyone tries to get out of the room as fast as they
can. The chopper crashes into the room...
WYATT
Fuck.
...And it explodes.
EXT. SKYSCRAPER
The chopper explodes, creating a massive fireball taking
out a good chunk of the side of the building.
Zavier is freefalling. He lets himself fall for a few
seconds before popping his parasail. He heads towards
the rooftop of another building.
EXT. ROOFTOP
When he's about ten feet from the rooftop, he detaches
his parasail and lets the wind carry it away. He hits
the roof pretty hard, definitely breaking some bones. He
forces himself to his feet and hobbles over to the
stairwell door.
INT. PARKING COMPLEX
Zavier comes out of an elevator and enters a parking
complex. He is now someone else's coat to cover his
battle damaged armor. He walks up to a car, looks
around, and he breaks the window. He gets into the car.
EXT. STREET
Zavier is driving the stolen car down the street.
INT. CAR
He sees several police cruisers driving his way, but they
drive right past him, and Zavier keeps on going. He
takes the first turn he sees away from the warzone behind
him.
INT. SLUMS
Zavier is driving the car through the slums, it's raining
again.
INT. CAR
He's looking around for the building he almost entered
earlier on, the hideout. But he can't seem to find it.
He notices that his own blood is dripping down his hand.
He pulls open his coat and sees that the entire area
around his right shoulder is soaked in blood.
He's feeling a little lightheaded, so he pulls the car
over, and turns it off. He examines his bloody wound,
getting groggier and groggier by the second. His eyes
get heavier and heavier. After a few more seconds, he
just passes out in the car.
INT. HIDEOUT - ZAVIER'S ROOM
Damien is still talking to Jen.
JEN
You know...for the entire time we've
been together, we never doubted it for
a second?
DAMIEN
Never? Why's that? Are we meant to
be?
JEN
Yeah. San used to be like you, you
know. He was the one who was doing the
deed. He eventually started taking in
younger people who could take his
place. Charlie was his foster son. I
was a runaway, you were living in
alleys. He took both of us in. We
were like eighteen or nineteen then.
DAMIEN
Why didn't you take his place?
JEN
We were injured in a car accident. You
weren't in the car, so you were the
only one who was able to train.
Charlie became tech support, I stayed
for you.
EXT. HIDEOUT
There are SWAT cops swarming in the alley, by the side
entrance to the hideout, waiting to strike.
INT. ZAVIER'S ROOM
DAMIEN
Did I ever ask you to marry me?
JEN
Does it matter? We love eachother.
That's what matters. We both used to
say that.
Damien says nothing.
JEN
You don't remember.
DAMIEN
No.
(BEAT)
I don't even remember who I am.
JEN
I remember who you used to be.
There is a silence. Jen starts to say something more,
but Charlie bursts into the room, loading an assault
rifle.
CHARLIE
We've got trouble, come on, hurry.
They all get up and get out of the room.
EXT. ALLEY
Two SWAT cops are wiring the side door with explosives.
INT. BACK ROOM
A few seconds later, the door is blown in...
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE
Zavier is sleeping on a cot with some crumpled up
blankets on top of him, crammed in the corner of a small
room. He opens his eyes, looks around, sits up. He
looks at a bandage on his shoulder wound.
He thinks for a moment, remembers something, then he
bolts to his feet and goes to the window. He opens the
blinds and looks outside at the slums. He hurries out of
the room.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE - ENTRANCE
Zavier hurries to the front door and opens it. Harry is
behind him.
HARRY
Zavier, where are you going!?
Zavier looks at him, then goes out the door.
INT. ALLEY
Zavier is running as fast as he can through an alley.
EXT. HIDEOUT
Zavier stops just down the street from the hideout. He
looks at it, it looks rather beat up, the site of a small
battle.
He runs up to it and looks at it close up, stricken with
grief.
ZAVIER
Oh no...
Harry drives up behind him in his beat up old car, parks
it and gets out. He looks at the hideout.
HARRY
Oh shit.
ZAVIER
The police are already gone...
He looks at Harry, then starts walking towards the side
entrance.
INT. ALLEY
He steps slowly up onto the porch, and finds that the
side door has been blown open. Harry steps up on the
porch next to him. They both go inside.
INT. HIDEOUT
They walk through the entrance. Zavier looks around,
sees bullet impacts all over the walls, explosions here
and there, places where fires were left burning. Harry
starts stalking through the building, looking around.
Zavier enters his old room.
INT. ZAVIER'S ROOM
He steps inside. Harry can be heard rummaging around
elsewhere. Zavier steps on an empty gas grenade, looks
down at it, and kicks it out of the way. He sees that
his high window was broken. He looks around his room,
all trashed, everything totally askew.
He sits down on his mattress, and grabs a small box
that's still sitting on it's shelf. He opens it, looks
at the stuff inside. Pictures, old stuff of sentimental
value. Zavier pulls a picture out of a stack of
pictures. It's of Jen. He looks at her for a few
moments.
EXT. ROOFTOP
Zavier pushes some weeds out of the way, and he sees his
and Jen's initials inside an upsidedown heart. He stares
at it for a moment. Harry steps out onto the rooftop
behind him.
HARRY
No bodies, no blood. They're still out
there somewhere.
Zavier stands up, looks at all the buildings around him.
ZAVIER
No.
HARRY
We'd better go. Come on.
He puts his hand on Zavier's shoulder, pulling him away.
They walk back into the building.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE - BEDROOM
Zavier lies down on his bed again, Harry throws some
blankets on him, and sits down in a chair.
HARRY
You need to rest.
(BEAT)
I guess it all happened last night, the
cops just snuck up on them and there
was a firefight. It didn't last long.
Nobody knows what happened to them for
sure. How did you get out?
ZAVIER
I wasn't in it.
HARRY
What happened to --
ZAVIER
Where could they be?
HARRY
No idea.
(BEAT)
What happened to you?
ZAVIER
I was inside the Planetron tower. I
was number one, I was the president.
They thought I was, anyway. I had to
fight my way out.
HARRY
Why?
ZAVIER
They thought I killed a lot of people,
for some reason. The police wanted me.
HARRY
Well...you're lucky to be alive.
They hear a toy hit the ground in the other room. Zavier
looks through the open door into the living room, where
Caitling is playing happily. Zavier smiles.
ZAVIER
She's cute.
HARRY
Yeah.
ZAVIER
Stuff like tihs...people like her.
It's why I'm here.
HARRY
You're doing a good job.
ZAVIER
You're doing a good job.
He looks at Caitlin.
HARRY
It's hard.
ZAVIER
Thanks...for all this, Harry.
HARRY
My way of being nice. In spite of all
the shit you've done to me.
There is a long silence. Harry laughs.
HARRY
Oh, man, here it is. You're going to
tell me it was your identical twin
brother, right?
Zavier doesn't say anything. Harry starts laughing.
ZAVIER
No, I'm serious.
Zavier sits up in his bed.
ZAVIER
I'm serious.
HARRY
What do you mean?
ZAVIER
There are two of me. Somehow, in some
way, there is another one of me out
there somewhere. Or, just someone out
there who LOOKS like me.
Harry gives him a look.
HARRY
I'm waiting for the punchline.
ZAVIER
We somehow got mixed up, traded places.
That other guy was the president of
Planetron, and now he's living with my
family.
(BEAT)
I think it was the warehouse thing that
I heard about.
HARRY
The warehouse.
ZAVIER
I remember...almost. We have to find
them, this guy, Damien, is not a nice
person. He's going to kill them.
HARRY
I don't know where they are.
ZAVIER
They have to be somewhere.
EXT. CORNER SHOP
We are outside a run down corner shop in the slums.
INT. BASEMENT
Everyone's down here. Damien is sleeping at one end of
the room. Jen, Charlie and San are talking at the other
about some very serious matters. Damien opens his eyes.
He can't really hear anything, but he looks around.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE
Harry and Zavier are sitting at the kitchen table.
ZAVIER
Harry, I need you to do something for
me.
HARRY
What?
ZAVIER
I need you to get me into the Planetron
mainframe computer.
HARRY
That's not possible. I can hack
anything BUT that.
Zavier sets his old ID card down on the table.
ZAVIER
This might help.
Harry slowly picks up the card and looks at it.
ZAVIER
There's info in that computer that can
answer my question.
HARRY
What question?
ZAVIER
Who am I?
Harry looks at the card, skeptically, then at Zavier.
HARRY
Okay.
He grabs the card and gets to work.
INT. BASEMENT
Charlie, Jen and San are sitting around a table,
silently. Damien steps up to the table.
CHARLIE
Hey.
DAMIEN
Is everyone okay?
JEN
We're all fine.
CHARLIE
How are you feeling?
DAMIEN
How long have I been asleep?
CHARLIE
18 hours.
DAMIEN
...Do we still have any of the cure?
CHARLIE
We were able to grab what we had left.
DAMIEN
Good...good.
He's getting a little suspicious.
DAMIEN
I'm still kind of tired.
He slinks out of the room.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE
Harry is sitting in front of his computer, hacking away
skillfully. Zavier enters the room.
HARRY
We're in.
ZAVIER
Good job.
HARRY
Anywhere you wanna go.
Harry gets up from his chair, and Zavier takes his place.
HARRY
Do what you gotta do. When you reach
the video you need, run this program on
it. Dilicky.exe. It can decrypt
anything.
ZAVIER
Thanks.
INT. BASEMENT
Damien sits down in another room, away from everyone
else. There are images flashing before his eyes,
memories. He's looking very alarmed, but he's gotten
slightly used to them. He feels a pain in his head, and
scrambles for a cigarette. He lights it, takes a long
drag, the memories fade.
He thinks for a moment, looks around, and an awful idea
pops into his head, and a similar smile is pulled acros
his face.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE
Zavier is sitting at the computer. He finds the video
that he couldn't watch before. He selects it, and runs
the hack on it. A progress bar appears on the screen,
marking it's progress. It's going very, very...
slowly...
INT. BASEMENT - OTHER ROOM
Damien is sitting on the floor of his other room. He has
improvised an ash tray out of a broken bottle bottom. It
is overflowing with cigarette butts. Damien puts one out
and lights another one. He's looking very very tense.
The hand he's not smoking with curls up into a fist.
INT. BASEMENT - ROOM
Jen and Charlie are sitting around the table, talking.
CHARLIE
What's he doing in there?
JEN
I don't know, but he has been smoking.
CHARLIE
I thought he quit.
JEN
He's stressed. He's got something on
his mind.
They sit in silence for a moment. Jen gets up from the
table, Charlie stops her.
CHARLIE
He's going insane.
Jen just looks angry.
INT. OTHER ROOM
Damien finishes his cigarette, he looks at it for a
moment. He's shaking, sweating, very uneasy. He puts
the cigarette out on his leg and doesn't even flinch.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM
Zavier is sleeping, and everything is very quiet. Harry
and his little girl can be heard playing in the other
room.
The progress bar on the screen is almost done. It
finishes, and the movie begins.
P.O.V. SCREEN
There is a scientist standing in his laboratory.
SCIENTIST
We have successfully cloned two copies
of one human male.
INT. COMPUTER ROOM
Zavier wakes up, starts watching.
SCIENTIST
This is the first time in history that
any human has been cloned successfully.
Niether of them have the "fuzzy"
syndrome. They are both perfectly
healthy baby boys with normal lifespans
and no health problems.
The camera angle changes, marking a new shooting session.
SCIENTIST
For the record, the DNA sample was
taken from the body of the CEO's dead
son. He was killed one year --
Another session.
SCIENTIST
He met one of the clones. He...does
not yet know that we have two, and he
doesn't need to know. He only wanted
one, but the embryo split in it's early
stages. We let it go on despite the
complication. The opportunity was too
great.
Another shooting session.
SCIENTIST
He ordered the second clone
exterminated. He wants no evidence of
these experiments...
Some security soldiers enter the room, and the scientist
looks at them --
Another shooting session. There is another scientist
now.
SCIENTIST #2
The original architect of this
experiment somehow managed to...smuggle
one of the boys out of the building.
Under interrogation, he released
information that he put it in an
orphonage near the slums.
(BEAT)
Security forces are sweeping the
orphonages now.
Zavier is intense. It's hard to describe.
A shadow passes by the window, a person. Zavier looks,
as a couple more pass the window. Zavier turns off the
computer screen, and gets up out of his chair. He goes
to the door and opens it.
INT. ENTRANCE
He looks at the front door. Harry is playing with
Caitlin. He suddenly stops and looks at Zavier.
HARRY
Zavier --
Zavier stops him. He hears small noises outside, running
feet, radio chatter.
ZAVIER
Get into the basement. Someplace safe.
HARRY
What is it?
ZAVIER
Just go.
Harry picks Caitlin up and carries her elsewhere.
INT. DINING ROOM
Zavier, loading pistols, approaches a large window in the
dining room with thin curtains over it. Floodlights can
be seen outside through them.
Suddenly, all the lights go out. It's nighttime, so very
little light shines in through the windows, except that
of police spotlights outside.
Zavier peeks through the curtains carefully. There are
at least a dozen police cars outside, a couple of SWAT
vans and an army of Planetron security personel.
LOUDSPEAKER (V.O.)
This is a Planetron security operation.
We have the building surrounded, there
is no way out. Come out unarmed and
with your hands on your head.
Zavier closes the curtains and gets ready for the cops to
come in.
Suddenly, a bullet punches through the window near
Zavier's face. Another one hits, and Zavier gets down
below the window. An onslaught of bullets fly through
the window, tearing the room apart. It suddenly stops.
Zavier waits for a moment, he hears footsteps approaching
the front door. He gets back up and crouches just around
the corner from the door, and waits. The door is knocked
in with a battering ram, and three cops rush inside.
Zavier fires at them, takes two of them down. The third
hides.
The two others outside come in, and fire at Zavier.
Zavier pulls back around his corner and hides. All the
cops take tactical firing positions. All is silent for a
few moments.
Zavier suddenly dives out from behind his corner and
rolls into the kitchen. The cops fire at him, and their
bullets punch through the thin wall. Zavier gets on the
floor and isn't hit. They stop firing, and Zavier gets
up and hides next to the entryway into the kitchen. He
waits for a few moments.
He suddenly pops out from the corner and shoots two cops.
The last one fires at him, and Zavier gets back.
COP
(Into Radio)
This is Alpha 3. We need backup right
now! I repeat --
Zavier shoots him, and he starts taking what he needs off
of dead bodies before the backup arrives. He grabs a
submachinegun, then he hears people outside the living
room. They start shooting into the living room, and
Zavier hides untill they stop. The cops tear the bars
off the window outside, and then jump into the house
through them.
Zavier immediately starts firing at them. He gets a few
of them, but the rest of the just fire back, having no
place to hide. Zavier gets down just in time.
The cops go prone and aim at where Zavier is. Two of
them split up. One of them goes through the kitchen, the
other through the living room, towards Zavier's cover
spot.
Zavier jumps out at one of them and holds him as a
hostage. He shoots the one in the kitchen, and then he
starts backing towards the basement stairs. A dozen more
cops enter the house from every entrance point, and all
of them start assembling around Zavier.
Zavier is slowly pulling his hostage back with him. He
goes down the basement stairs and into the basement.
INT. BASEMENT
He comes into a hallway, before he can take a few steps,
all the cops are at the top of the stairs, following him
down. He eases down the hall, all the laser pointers
getting in his eyes.
He stops, looks around. He spots two cops break off from
the group and go into another room. The exit to the room
is right behind him. He goes to it, kicks in the door,
and shoots the two guys inside. They hide, and Zavier
stops. He checks the other cops, then looks back into
the room.
He grabs his hostage's assault rifle and aims it into the
room. The cops shoot at him, and he blows the entire
room apart. He moves his concentration back to the rest
of the cops and starts backing up.
He hits a concrete wall. Nowhere to go. He sees a metal
door at the end of a perpendicular hallway. Zavier moves
towards the door, backing up as fast as he can, still
holding his hostage. The police, of course follow him.
He gets to the door, it's locked. He knocks on it, and
Harry cracks it open, shoves a gun in Zavier's face. He
sees who it is, and pulls it back. He opens the door
some more, and Zavier moves backwards, then he jumps
behind the bulletproof metal door. He pulls his hostage
in after him.
INT. BASEMENT
Damien is not smoking anymore, he's just thinking. Jen
knocks on the door. Damien looks at the door, doesn't
say anything.
JEN
Zavier?
(BEAT)
What are you doing in there?
Damien doesn't say anything for a few moments.
DAMIEN
Thinking.
JEN
What are you thinking about?
Damien doesn't answer.
JEN
Zavier...what are you thinking about?
Damien looks down at the ground for a moment, says
nothing.
JEN
Open the door! Zavier, open the door!
She keeps yelling and screaming, but it's only an echo.
Damien looks at something that he's holding in his hand.
A gun.
JEN
I hope this gets through to you. I
love you, Zavier.
He looks at the door, Jen on the other side, then back at
the gun.
JEN
I love you.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE - STORAGE ROOM
Harry, Caitlin, Zavier and his hostage are in a large
storage room. There are tall metal racks filled with all
kinds of stolen goods, mostly packed up in boxes.
Harry locks the door and starts pushing a large rack in
front of it. Zavier trains his gun on the hostage.
ZAVIER
Don't move.
He helps Harry with the rack. They move it to block the
door.
HARRY
We should be pretty safe in here.
Zavier grabs his hostage and starts taking all of his
weapons and his radio and any other kind of item he could
use to his advantage.
ZAVIER
Gimme a chair.
Harry grabs Zavier a rolling chair, and rolls it over to
him. Zavier catches it, and sits the hostage down in it.
ZAVIER
Rope.
Harry tosses him some rope, and he ties the hostage to
the chair. He puts a strip of duct tape over his mouth,
and then wheels him over so he's right by the door.
ZAVIER
What is this place?
HARRY
Storage. I keep all your stolen stuff
in here.
Zavier notices something at the other end of the room.
It's a big garage-style door, ten feet high, twenty feet
wide.
ZAVIER
What's keeping them on the other side
of that door?
HARRY
Nothing.
ZAVIER
How do we get out?
HARRY
I have one hidden exit. Into the
sewers.
Harry leads Zavier over to a grate in the floor.
ZAVIER
Good. Let's go.
They both look, hearing a hiss coming from a vent in the
ceiling. About a dozen tear gas grenades are dropped
into the room, and most of it fills up with tear gas.
Harry grabs Caitlin and follows Zavier into a safe
corner.
Zavier grabs the hostage's gas mask right off his face
and gives it to Harry.
HARRY
They must have detected our connection
to the mainframe and located the
source.
Zavier looks to the roof, and pushes Harry behind him as
another grate in the ceiling opens above them. He shoots
the cops up through the grate, and they get back. He
waits for them to come back, then shoots some more. He
grabs Harry and pulls him to another area that is
relatively free of tear gas.
Zavier finds a control panel on the wall and sees that it
controls the vents in the storage room. He turns them
all on high.
The hum of the motors can be heard throughout the room,
and the gas starts clearing. Caitlin is screaming in
tears.
Zavier starts looking through the crates in the room,
pulls some of them off the shelf. He opens a couple of
them, they are totally filled with guns. He opens
another one, and pulls out a full body suit of kevlar
armor.
EXT. HARRY'S HOUSE
The pink tear gas floats through the vents and into the
police encampment outside.
The team commander runs up to a guy on a humvee who is
manning an extremely large machinegun.
LEADER
Fucking blast 'em!
GUNNER
Understood.
He aims his machinegun at the big garage door and starts
firing.
INT. STORAGE ROOM
Zavier zips up his armor suit, and starts loading some
guns.
Suddenly, bullets start punching through the big door and
everything else in the room. Zaver pulls Harry and
Caitlin to the side and to safety. They watch the
storage area get torn apart by a couple hundred 50
caliber bullets. The gunfire stops, and a huge hole in
the door five feet wide is left.
ZAVIER
Where's our exit?
HARRY
There.
He points, it's at the opposite side of the room.
ZAVIER
Come on.
He grabs Harry and Caitlin and they all edge towards the
big hole in the door.
ZAVIER
One, two...three.
They all run across, and the gunner outside fires more
bullets at them through the door. They get down and
aren't hit. Suddenly, all the gunfire stops. Zavier
peeks through a hole in a door and looks outside. All of
the spotlights go out and Zavier can't see anything.
HARRY
What's going on? Why did they stop
firing?
INT. ALLEY
The gunner opens a big metal box, and pulls a very large
rocket out of it. He loads it into a rocket launcher on
his gun, with a click.
INT. STORAGE ROOM
Zavier hears the click, then looks at the big hole in the
door.
ZAVIER
Get down!
He stuffs Harry and Caitlin in the corner, and covers
them with himself.
INT. ALLEY
The gunner aims the rocket, waiting for his okay.
LEADER
Ready!
The gunner puts his finger on the trigger.
LEADER
Fire!
He fires the rocket.
INT. STORAGE ROOM
The rocket flies right through the big hole in the big
door, and explodes on the far wall, engulfing half of the
room in flames. Zavier waits for somethig more to
happen, but it doesn't.
HARRY
Fuck.
ZAVIER
Come on, hurry.
They rush towards the grate leading into the sewer, and
start lifting it up. They get it off the ground and set
it down.
INT. ALLEY
The gunner starts loading another rocket into his gun.
INT. STORAGE ROOM
Harry starts going down a ladder into the sewer, and
Zavier sends Caitlin gently down after him. He starts
going down himself, when the rocket flies into the room
and explodes in midair, causing more damage than the
first one. Zavier is thrown off.
Suddenly, doors on all sides of the room are kicked in,
and cops start flooding in. Zavier looks at all the
cops, then slips down into the sewer. He pulls the grate
back over the opening before anyone sees.
The cops sweep the room, finding no one.
LEADER
They're gone!
INT. BASEMENT
Damien lowers the gun that he's looking at, looks at the
door. Jen is not screaming and pounding on it anymore.
Damien takes the last drag he can off of his cigarrette.
He looks at his box. There is one more left. He lights
it, starts smoking it, and stands up. He walks over to
the door, and stands by it, feeling the gun in his hand.
INT. ROOM
Jen is sitting, leaning against the door.
JEN
Zavier?
INT. OTHER ROOM
Damien steps back, then points the gun at where Jen would
be sitting.
JEN (O.S.)
Zavier? Are you okay?
INT. ALLEY
Charlie is smoking a cigarette in the alley by the room
that they're hiding out in. He stops, when he hears
several gunshots from inside the basement. He drops his
cigarette on the ground and runs inside.
INT. BASEMENT
He runs down the stairs and into the basement, to find
himself looking at Damien. Jen is a bloody mess by the
door into the other room. Charlie looks at the gun, then
at Damien. His face is empty.
Damien unloads five shots into Charlie, throwing him
against the wall. He slumps to the ground, dead. Damien
fires a couple more shots to be sure.
Damien turns around, and San is standing behind him. He
isn't afraid. San just stands there, strong, like he is.
He stares at the gun and Damien without fear.
SAN
You're not him.
DAMIEN
...no...
Damien shoots him a few times, then a few more times once
he's on the ground.
He grabs a duffle bag off the floor and puts it on the
table. He looks through it, pulling out any weapon he
can find. He pulls out a few pistols and some ammo and
lays it all out on the table. He pulls out a bulletproof
vest and straps it on. He then loads all the guns and
puts them in the many holsters built into the suit.
He looks through the duffle once more and finds his real
goal. A small plastic case. He opens it, and inside is
the last vial of the cure. He smilest, then closes it,
pockets it, and goes out the door.
INT. ALLEY
Damien comes out of the basement running. He walks
leisurely out into the street.
EXT. STREET
He gets out there. There are some people around, but
none of them care that they just heard twenty gunshots.
Damien walks.
INT. ALLEY
Damien enters an alley, and finds a motorcycle resting
against the wall. He pulls out a knife and goes to work
on hotwiring it. He's good at this.
A guy comes out of a door to the building next to him,
with a shotgun.
GUY
Get off my bike, mother --
Damien, without even looking, aims his pistol at the guy.
He finishes hotwiring the bike, and revvs the engine. He
smiles at the guy with the shotgun. BOOM!
EXT. STREET
The bike explodes out of the alley, with Damien on it.
It screeches to a halt in the middle of the road. Damien
looks ahead. Nothing but miles and miles of empty road.
He revvs the engine humongusly, and then he takes off.
He takes off faster than he usually does, this time
around 160.
INT. SEWER
Harry, Caitlin and Zavier are walking through the sewers.
Zavier hears some footsteps behind them. He sees laser
pointers and flashlights cut through the mist.
ZAVIER
Let's go.
They get around a corner, and find a ladder.
ZAVIER
You first.
Harry hands Caitlin to Zavier. Zavier holds the little
girl in one hand, and a gun in the other. Harry climbs
up the ladder and pushes the grate out of the way.
Zavier spins around to see more cops coming through the
mist in the other direction.
HARRY
Give her to me.
Zavier passes Caitlin up the ladder to the surface, and
then starts climbing up himself as some cops pass by
beneath him, not noticing.
INT. ALLEY
They come up through a grate in an alley and close it
behind the, very very quietly. They watch as the police
pass by below, right where they just were. They sit on
either side of the alley, with the grate in between them.
Every now and then, police flashlights below will
illuminate the otherwise dark alleyway.
ZAVIER
You two okay?
HARRY
We're fine.
Zavier starts reloading his weapons.
HARRY
Going somewhere?
ZAVIER
We had an emergency plan. There was a
building we would go to if we got into
trouble. I'm gonna check it out.
HARRY
What about us?
ZAVIER
Hide.
Zavier hands Harry a gun.
HARRY
No.
ZAVIER
Take it.
Harry reluctantly takes the gun.
ZAVIER
Stay low, in the shadows, out of sight,
untill morning. You'll be safe in the
morning. I'll find you.
HARRY
Okay.
ZAVIER
If I'm right about everything...
Zavier gets up to leave, but he stops. He looks back at
Harry for a moment. He actually looks scared, uncertain,
confused. Not like himself. The two men nod to
eachtoerh. Zavier steps out of the alley and starts
running down the sidewalk.
EXT. SIDEWALK
Zavier is running down the street, looking around for
this building. He turns down a random alley.
INT. ALLEY
Zavier sees the dead guy in the alley, and he looks
around.
EXT. BASEMENT
Zavier enters the alley outside the basement. He looks
at the open door to the basement, and he sees Charlie's
half-smoked cigarette on the ground. He puts it out with
his foot, and goes into the basement.
INT. BASEMENT
He descends the staircase slowly, looks around. He
stops, when he steps in a puddle of blood. He steps out
of it, and sees Charlie's body on the ground. He kneels
down to look at him. He's dead.
Memories start flashing before Zavier's eyes. He stands
up slowly, looks at Charlie's body, horrified. He Jen's
dead body, runs over to her, tries to shake her back to
life.
ZAVIER
Jen...Jen!
But she's dead, she slumps to the floor, and Zavier
stands up. He sees San's body, and goes to it. San
coughs. Zavier lifts him up a little bit, causing him to
grunt slightly in pain.
ZAVIER
San...
San looks at Zavier, smiles.
SAN
Zavier...
ZAVIER
Who did this?
SAN
You.
ZAVIER
Oh God.
SAN
The last vial, the cure. He took it...
He's dying.
ZAVIER
Oh shit, God, don't die.
He pulls San close to him, hugs him.
SAN
Go.
(BEAT)
GO!!
San starts writhing in pain after the sudden burst of
energy. He wiggles out of Zavier's arms in pain. Zavier
stands up slowly, and then shoots San, puts him out of
his misery. He stands in silence for a moment, grips his
guns, squeezes them as hard as he can, he tenses his
entire body up.
And he screams.
EXT. METRO AREA - STREET
Damien, atop his bike, is manuevering skillfully through
the crammed city streets. He is dodging cars left and
right, going all over the place, with no problem at all.
He races past a police car, and he looks back, seeing the
siren come on. It tries to follow him, but he's too fast
and the street is too jammed.
EXT. STREET - LATER
Damien looks back, seeing a helicopter flying up behind
him in the sky. He guns it, and the bike goes faster.
INT. HIDEOUT - BACK ROOM
Zavier enters the back room of the hideout, where he
remembers his motorcycle being. It's pretty smashed up
from Damien's wreck, but not too bad. Zavier hops on and
turns the ignition. The bike doesn't start. He tries
again, with the same result. He tries again, and while
the engine isn't starting, he kicks the bike. It starts.
INT. ALLEY
The bike busts through the side door of the alley, and
Zavier drives it right off the porch, and races towards
the sidewalk.
EXT. STREET
He gets theb ike out onto the street, and stops. He
looks at the straightaway ahead of him. He revvs the
engine, and takes off, even faster that Damien ever did.
EXT. TV SHOP
There are a number of TVs in the window of this TV shop,
some of them showing some cartoons, some of them showing
the news. Zavier pulls his bike up onto the sidewalk,
and stops next to the window, watches. The news
broadcast consists of a bird's eye view of a motorcyclist
racing through traffic at incredible speeds elsewhere in
the city.
Zavier sees the location on the screen, the biker is
getting onto Route 11, heading North. Zavier takes off.
EXT. ROUTE 11
Route 11 is much like a freeway. It is elevated, and the
traffic is slightly dense and moving at high speed.
Damien is going at a higher speed, though. He weaves
through dozens and dozens of cars without a hitch. He
looks back, the helicopter is still on his tail. It's
shining a spotlight at him.
A police cruiser pulls up beside him, sirens on.
LOUDSPEAKER
Pull over!
Damien keeps going at full speed. He weaves away from
the police car.
INT. METRO AREA
Zavier races his bike through traffic. He looks up, and
sees Route 11 over him. He swerves to a stop and then
cuts across several lanes of traffic. He cuts across
several more, and speeds over to the onramp.
EXT. ONRAMP
Zavier turns to get ready for the curve getting onto R11.
He hits the turn at 200 miles an hour, the bike bankes so
much that it is almost horizontal, parallel to the ground
below the road.
EXT. ROUTE 11 - ZAVIER
Zavier accelerates out of the curve. He pulls out right
in front of a large SUV, and the SUV skids to a halt.
Another car crashes into it. Zavier keeps going, his
speed reaches about 220.
EXT. ROUTE 11 - DAMIEN
Another police cruiser joins in the pursuit. Damien
notices something coming up in the other traffic lane.
It's a motorcycle, going extremely fast. Damien watches,
and he sees Zavier's face.
EXT. ROUTE 11 - ZAVIER
Zavier spots Damien's face. And they pass by eachother
in a split second. Zavier screeches to a halt, and does
a complete 180. He is facing oncoming traffic. He takes
off down the road.
DAMIEN
Damien starts winding through traffic erratically, trying
to lose the police. One of the police cruisers collides
with another car, and crashes into the thick concrete
divider in the center of the road.
ZAVIER
Zavier is seeing cars and dodging them faster than we
even know they're there. He flows through an onslaught
of oncoming cars with ease, still maintaining his
unbelievable speed.
DAMIEN
Damien looks back, and sees Zavier gaining on him. A
police cruiser struggles up beside him.
LOUDSPEAKER
Pull over!
Damien pulls a gun, and shoots the driver of the car
through the window. The car starts drifting, out of
control. It gets hit by another car and goes into a
spin. Damien looks back again.
ZAVIER
Zavier swerves out of the way of an oncoming semi truck.
He passes alongside it, then dodges a car that is
changing lanes in front of him. He sees a police cruiser
ahead of him, unsuspecting.
INT. POLICE CRUISER
The driver points at Damien, racing down the other side
of the road.
DRIVER
There he is. That is one fast bike.
Zavier races past the car unbelievably fast. The driver
and his passenger aren't even sure anything passed by at
all.
PASSENGER
Whoah.
EXT. ROUTE 11 - ZAVIER
Zavier passes by another semi truck, and sees that yet
another one is changing lanes behind it. He swerves out
of the way of that one and in doing so, forces himself to
cut across three lanes of traffic. One car misses him by
inches, and another by nanometers. Zavier keeps going.
DAMIEN
The helicopter pulls up closer to Damien, shining it's
spotlight on him. Damien finds a clear stretch of road,
then he aims back at the chopper. He fires several
shots, taking out the spotlight and scaring it back a few
dozen yards. He puts his gun away, and looks at Zavier,
who has caught up to him and is now beside him, fifty
feet away.
ZAVIER
Zavier swerves and banks his way onto the small, five
foot wide shoulder next to the concrete divider in the
road.
DAMIEN
Damien pulls up to the divider as well. He and Zavier
are now about ten feet apart, close enough to truly get
good looks at eachothers faces. They're both in awe.
ZAVIER
Zavier pulls a gun on Damien, and starts shooting at him.
Damien ducks under the shots and brakes slightly. He
gets twenty feet behind Zavier.
DAMIEN
Damien accelerates once more, and pulls his own gun and
starts shooting at Zavier.
ZAVIER
Five or six shots punch through the rear of Zavier's
bike. The tail lights shatter, and Zavier ducks. He
shoots back at Damien, and then pulls out into oncoming
traffic once more to avoid his shots.
DAMIEN
Damien puts his gun away and speeds up as much as he
possibly can, still looking at Zavier. He looks ahead
just in time to see the base of a billboard blocking his
path. He cuts out into traffic, the bike sparking as it
scrapes by.
ZAVIER
Zavier sees his ticket to the other side of the road.
It's a turnaround, starting on the far side of the road,
going up into the air, turning around, and then going
back down onto the other side. There is a construction
crew working on it.
Zavier speeds up, starts going as fast as he can,
searching for a way to get into the other lane of
traffic. The police helicopter pulls up pretty close to
him. It pulls up ahead of him, and a cop leans out the
side with a loudspeaker.
LOUDSPEAKER
Pull over you fucking lunatic!
DAMIEN
Damien pulls his gun out and shoots at the chopper. He
kills the guy with the loudspeaker and puts a few bullets
through the windshield.
ZAVIER
The dead cop falls out of the chopper, and Zavier swerves
to avoid him. He fires a few shots at Damien, who dodges
them and pulls away. Zavier cuts across ALL lanes of
traffic, and heads for the turnaround ramp.
DAMIEN
Damien sees what he's doing, and pulls his gun. He fires
every shot he has at Zavier, untill the gun is empty. He
starts trying to reload it with one hand.
ZAVIER
One of Damien's shots hits Zavier's gas tank, and small
amounts of gas start leaking out of the bike. Zavier
doesn't notice, though. He gets on the turnaround ramp.
EXT. TURNAROUND RAMP
He smashes through some WARNING: ROAD CLOSED signs and
continues up the turnaround ramp at high speed. He banks
the bike to a near horizontal position again, and does
the 180 onto the main part of the ramp.
He gets going straight again, and the chopper pulls up to
his level. He sees the construction zone ahead. All the
workers stop what they're doing and look at him stupidly.
Zavier doesn't stop. He races right through the
construction zone, dodging all the construction workers
and all their big machines.
He hits the curve taking him back onto the roadway. He
doesn't have to bank because it's more gradual, so he
keeps his full speed, even gaining some because it's
downhill.
EXT. ROUTE 11 - ZAVIER
He gets back onto Route 11, pulling back onto the roadway
right next to a large truck. The truck tries to swerve
to avoid him, but it hits another car. The driver
overcorrects, and Zavier winds up swerving out of the
truck's way as it spins out of control. He races on
towards Damien.
DAMIEN
Damien loks back, and sees Zavier is now about 300 feet
behind him, and gaining fast. He looks ahead just in
time to dodge a car. He increses his speed, trying to
lose Zavier.
ZAVIER
Zavier speeds up, and has absolutely no problem
manuevering this traffic. There might as well not even
be any other cars on the road. He flows through them
like air.
DAMIEN
Damien looks back, seeing that Zavier is almost on him.
He pulls a gun, and shoots behind him. He actually aims
for the first few shots, then he just fires blindly. He
eventually stops and starts riding again.
ZAVIER
Zavier dodges the shots and pulls around behind another
car. He speeds way way up, and gets about 20 feet away
from Damien. He pulls out his gun, and shoots. Damien
ducks, and pulls right, nearly cutting Zavier off.
DAMIEN
He slows down slightly, so that Zavier is right behind
him. Zavier starts trying to pull around and pass him,
but Damien keeps cutting him off. Their rear and front
tires are grinding against eachother. They start smoking
and baking. Zavier is finally able to slip past Damien,
into another lane. In doing so, he cuts a car off, and
the car swerves all around and gets smashed up.
ZAVIER
Zavier's gas guage is dropping slightly. He is still not
noticing. The original police chopper flies up and
starts hoviering behind both of them. A second one soon
joins it.
DAMIEN
Damien starts shooting backwards at both of them.
ZAVIER
Zavier does, too, but he concentrates on the new one. He
takes out the spotlight, and scares it back a good deal.
He looks ahead, and he sees that there are a dozen police
lights flashing about a quarter of a mile ahead.
EXT. ROUTE 11
There is a massive roadblock here.
DAMIEN
He sees the roadblock as well, pulls out one of his guns.
He looks at Zavier...
ZAVIER
...And Zavier looks back. They have to agree now.
Zavier pulls out his own gun. Each of them pulls onto a
shoulder, and accelerates.
DAMIEN
Damien comes up on the roadblock. A police car pulls out
and blocks his path. He screeches to a halt, and then
carefully manuevers between it and another police car.
He starts accelerating, shooting at all the cops. Once
he's mostly clear, he shoots back at a cruiser, and hits
a gas tank a few times. The car explodes. He rides on.
ZAVIER
Zavier comes up on the roadblock. A police car pulls up
to it, and Zavier barely manages to squeak between it and
the divider. The police shoot at him on his way out of
the roadblock. None of them hit anything, though. He
rides on. Since the roadblock itself stopped traffic,
afterwards, the road is totally clear, so it's smooth
riding for miles.
DAMIEN
One of the shots hits Damien in the side. The round is a
very large rubber bullet, two inches wide. It gives
Damien a serious jolt and sends him flying. He spins the
bike, and it swerves and rolls over. Damien flies off.
He's not going too fast yet, so it's only about 10 feet.
He pulls himself back to his feet, and shoots at all the
cops, which are all about 150 feet behind him.
He sees Zavier racing towards him at incredible speed.
He dives out of the way, towards his bike, as Zavier
skims by him, missing him by inches. Damien pulls his
bike back up and starts running with it. He jumps on and
guns the engine.
ZAVIER
Zavier decides to wait for Damien to pass him by. He
does a swerving 180 and comes to a stop in the center of
the road. He pulls out both guns and aims at Damien.
DAMIEN
Damien pulls out one gun, and gets low, waiting for
Zavier to start shooting. Zavier does start shooting,
furiously with both guns. Damien shoots back. Damien
gets hit in the arm and the leg, but he toughs it out and
keeps riding.
ZAVIER
Damien passes by. Zavier reloads both of his guns,
holsters them, and gets the bike ready to go again. He
notices the gas leak. He looks at the gague, the tank is
less than half full.
ZAIVER
Shit.
He looks back at the leak, nothing he can really do to
stop it now. Some of the cops' bullets ricochet off the
asphalt. He looks back, every police officer from the
roadblock is running at him shooting. He spins the bike
around and takes off after Damien.
DAMIEN
Damien looks back, Zavier is so far back he's almost out
of sight. He looks forward again. The road is still
pretty empty. There is a tunnel coming up.
ZAVIER
Zavier's speed reaches about 220 once more, and he looks
ahead. He is gaining on Damien pretty fucking fast.
Damien was about 1000 feet ahead of him ten seconds ago.
Now he's about 100. Zavier pulls out a gun and aims it
carefully.
DAMIEN
Damien suddenly spins around and aims his gun at Zavier,
and fires ten shots.
ZAVIER
Zavier ducks. One of the shots bounces off of his armor,
the rest hit the road. Zavier shoots back furiously. He
fires every shot he has in the gun at Damien. He runs
out of ammo, and starts reloading with one hand.
DAMIEN
Damien shoots back at Zavier untill his gun is empty. He
starts trying to reload it as well. He winds up dropping
it on the road. He pulls out a second gun, and readies
it to be fired.
ZAVIER
Zavier, having reloaded his gun, pulls up closer to
Damien.
INT. TUNNEL
The two motorcyclists pull into a very large tunnel. The
lights in the ceiling are orange, so the tunnal has a
yellow glow in it.
DAMIEN
Damien aims back and fires a few shots at Zavier. The
shots echo through the big concrete tunnel.
ZAVIER
One of Damien's bullets hits Zavier's front headlight and
puts it out. Zavier starts zigzagging wildly to dodge
the shots. He does it consistently, and consistently
dodges bullets.
DAMIEN
Damien's gun runs out of ammo, and he holsters it, starts
concentrating on just riding again. He looks ahead, they
have reached traffic again. Damien pulls around a black
car, and he starts weaving through all the cars on the
road.
ZAVIER
Zavier reaches traffic as well, and starts doing the best
he can to just go straight for Damien. Damien's erratic
weaving is causing wanton confusion. Cars are pulling in
and out of every lane, and Zavier is having a hard time
getting through the chaos.
DAMIEN
Damien pulls his gun again, and shoots back at Zavier.
ZAVIER
The bullet goes in through the front windshield of a car,
and the driver starts panicking. He swerves and nearly
cuts Zavier off. Zavier brakes hard, and then slowly is
able to pull around him. By the time he gets going
again, Damien is pretty far ahead.
DAMIEN
Damien looks back, sees that he lost Zavier. He grins,
puts his gun away, and he pulls onto the shoulder. He
looks around, and sees an exit up ahead. There is a sign
which reads UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Zavier rides right
through the sign and goes down the exit.
EXT. EXIT
He slowls the bike down a lot, and then pulls under the
R11 overpass. This place is totally empty. Very few
street lamps, no cars and no construction going on at the
moment. He starts reloading his weapons, and making sure
that the places where bullets hit are not wounds.
EXT. ROUTE 11 - ZAVIER
Zavier reaches the exit where Damien was, looks around
for Damien. He sees the sign that he smashed through,
and goes down the sam exit Damien did.
EXT. EXIT - DAMIEN
Damien starts the bike up again and speeds out from under
the overpass. Right as he does, Zavier speeds past and
nearly T-bones him.
ZAVIER
Zavier swerves to stop, and spins the bike around twice.
He stops, facing Damien.
DAMIEN
Damien swerves his bike to dodge Zavier, but keeps going
for about 100 feet. He then peels out, and bringe the
bike to a stop. He looks at Zavier.
ZAVIER
Zavier looks at Damien. It's a challenge. Zavier revvs
his engine as loud as he can. He puts his bike on the
dotted center line.
DAMIEN
Damien revvs his engine rather loud as well, and he
brings his bike around to face Zavier. He alligns his
bike with the dotted center line, revving his engine
louder and louder and louder.
ZAVIER
Zavier starts revving his engine louder as well. The
engine activity grows more and more intense with the look
on his face. He holds down the brakes, and lets the back
wheel spin a little bit.
DAMIEN
Damien does the same, but more, rising to the challange.
He looks at Zavier, slightly furious, slightly amused,
but all crazy. He stops the engine.
ZAVIER
Zavier stops his engine too. The road is silent, and the
only noise is the ambient sound of cars on the road
above. Zavier suddenly jumps on his bike and guns it.
DAMIEN
Damien hops onto his motorcycle and accelerates down the
dotted line towards Zavier. His speed is reaching 100.
ZAVIER
So is Zavier's. And his gas tank is reaching empty. He
looks at Zavier, sees that he isn't moving the slightest
bit out of the way.
DAMIEN
Damien sees that Zavier isn't moving either. He slams on
the brakes, nearly being thrown off the bike.
ZAVIER
Zavier stops his own bike suddenly. Both bikes' front
tires are less than an inch apart, and both of them are
somking. The two bikers stare at eachother for a very
long moment, catching their breath.
DAMIEN
...Hi.
ZAIVER
Hello.
DAMIEN
I guess you're the guy.
ZAIVER
Yeah, I'm your guy.
DAMIEN
I'm yours.
ZAIVER
Nice to meet you.
They stare at eachother for another moment, very intense.
ZAVIER
I'm going to make sure that it never
happens again.
Damien grins, and both of them gun their engines, pull
aside and race past eachother.
ZAVIER
Zavier races down the road 100 feet before he does a 180
and looks at Damien. Damien is still riding.
DAMIEN
Damien keeps riding at full speed, away from Zavier. He
goes under the R11 overpass and keeps going, keeping his
speed of around 180.
ZAVIER
Zavier starts his bike going after Damien again. His
bike reaches 200, and he decides to stop giving it so
much gas.
DAMIEN
Damien looks back and sees that Zavier is following him.
He speeds up as much as he can. The bike reaches 180 and
stops, that's it's top speed. He looks back, Zavier is
gaining on him pretty fast. In that short period of
time, he cut the distrance between them in half.
ZAVIER
Zavier pulls up right behind Damien. Damien starts
zigzagging, trying to throw him off. While he's on the
right, Zavier speds up and gets beside him. Damien
doesn't stop when he comes back left again. He rams into
Zavier from the side.
This sends Zavier about ten feet to the left. Zavier
comes back and rams Damien from the side, sending him a
similar distance. Damien careens abck right towards
Zavier, but Zavier turns into the impact and doesn't go
much of anywhere.
They both turn at eachother and rides, their bikes making
contact, speeding 180 down an empty road. Sparks are
flying in between the bikes. Damien forces Zavier over
to the side of the road, and starts mashing his bike
against the guard rail.
Zavier punches Damien from his bike, and this sends
Damien into the guard rail on the opposite side of the
road. His bike slowls down and goes out of control. He
spins a couple of times, but then he gets it back in
motion and heads after Zavier once more.
Once Damien gets about 20-feet behind him, Zavier brakes
hard, does a front wheelie. Damien passes him by, and
Zavier pulls out a gun and fires every shot he's got at
the other bike.
DAMIEN
A couple of bullets hit Damien in the back, but the body
armor stops them. Another bullet takes out a tail light,
one more takes out another, and the last shot goes
straight into Damien's rear tire. The tire blows out,
and the bike starts wobbling. Damien manages to recover,
but his speed dwindles greatly.
ZAVIER
Zavier's, however, doesn't. He speeds up, starts
catching back upto Damien without a problem. Damien
fires a few shots back at Zavier. He stops, and Zavier
looks ahead again. He sees that the road is ending.
INT. DRAINAGE DITCH
Further up toe road, there is a concrete drainage ditch
with slanted sides, there is a shallow stream of water
flowing through it. The unconstructed road should pass
over the ditch, but the overpass hasn't been completed
yet. It stops at the end of one of the outer slopes.
EXT. UNCONSTRUCTED ROAD
Both Zavier and Damien stop shooting, and start preparing
for the drop off.
INT. DRAINAGE DITCH
First, Damien's bike flies off of the road, and into the
ditch. It hits the slope on the opposite side, and
Damien slowly backs it up into the drained water and
takes off as fast as he can.
Zavier's bike flies by inches over Damien's head, and
hits the opposite slope, already facing the way it should
be going. It takes off, and gradually curves down into
the water flow.
Both the bikes are traveling through the water flow now.
Their tires are leaving wakes behind them that are close
to ten feet high.
DAMIEN
Damien looks back at Zavier, but doesn't shoot. He has
to concentrate. There is a flat concrete wall up ahead,
and there is one tunnel through it, big enough for one
bike to fit. He aims his bike to go right through it.
ZAVIER
Zavier sees the tunnel as well, and lines himself up
rightb ehind Damien.
INT. TUNNEL
Both bikes barely squeak into the four foot square
tunnel. Each rider ducks so he doesn't hit the ceiling.
DAMIEN
Damien, very cramped, somehow manages to pull a gun and
shoot behind him at Zavier.
ZAVIER
Zavier pulls his own gun out and shoots ahead. Niether
of them can zigzag to avoid the bullets, they have about
eight inches of clearance on either side.
INT. DRAINAGE DITCH
They exit the tunnel, and resume their full speed.
DAMIEN
Damien shoots back at Zavier freely now, unconstricted.
ZAVIER
Zavier ducks, his front windshielf is shattered. He
shoots ahead at Damien, and Damien starts zigzagging to
avoid the shots.
DAMIEN
He banks to steep on one side of the ditch, and his tires
lose what little grip they have on the wet road. The
bike turns on it's side and slides for a few dozen yards.
Damien throws himself off the bike, and he slides through
the water, without friction.
ZAVIER
Zavier sees Damien wipe out. He does his best to stop,
but the water on the road and his tires prevent him from
doing this in a timely manner. He winds up stopping
about 300 feet away from Damien. He looks at Damien.
DAMIEN
Damien slowly wakes up and sits up, he looks around, sees
Zavier waiting 300 feet away. He pulls himsel to his
feet, and reloads his weapon while he goes over to the
bike. He holsters his gun and lifts the bike up. He
gets on and starts it up again.
ZAVIER
Zavier revvs the engine slightly, then more and more.
DAMIEN
Damien accepts the challenge. The engine gets louder and
louder untill he jumps on the bike. He wants to go, but
the wheels take a few seconds to grip the road and go.
ZAVIER
Zavier's tires have similar results. They grip the road
about five seconds after he wanted the bike to go, and
accelerates very slowly towards Damien.
DAMIEN
His bike has been accelerating for 100 feet. His speed
has now reached 80. Damien suddenly whips out his gun
and starts shooting at Zavier.
ZAVIER
Zavier ducks, and in doing so, he turns the bike over.
He stays on it, and slides down the ditch as bullets hit
all around him. Damien speeds by, and then he swerves to
a spinning stop, facing Zavier. Zavier gets back up on
his bike. He looks at the slope nearest him. Just on
the other side is a busy city street.
DAMIEN
Damien looks at the same slope and city street. He guns
the engine, and the bike takes off, goes up the slope.
ZAVIER
Zavier takes off as well.
EXT. STREET
Both bikes fly off the slope like a ramp, and fly 20 feet
in the air simultaneously, hitting the ground and getting
pretty messed up.
DAMIEN
Damien recovers from the impact, and looks at Zavier.
ZAVIER
Zavier looks at Damien as well. He takes off towards
Damien.
DAMIEN
Damien takes off away from Zavier, and starts riding
through some light traffic as fast as his bike can take
him, which is not very fast anymore.
ZAVIER
Even Zavier's bike is having a little trouble going very
fast or keeping a high speed.
DAMIEN
Damien sees something ahead of him. A semi truck, going
rather slow. He pulls up along side it and speeds up to
the driver's side doown. He pounds on it.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
The driver, bewildered, opens the door. Damien is
pointing a gun at him.
DAMIEN
Move over!
The driver does, keeping his hand on the wheel.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien jumps off of his bike and onto the side of the cab
of the semi. He crawls inside.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
He points his gun at the driver again and takes the
wheel. He pulls the truck over towards the shoulder of
the road, smashes a few cars in the process.
DAMIEN
Get out.
The driver opens his door, and jumps out into the road.
Damien checks Zavier's position in the rearview mirror.
He cannot see Zavier anymore.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
That's because Zavier is right behind the semi. He is
pulling up as close as he can to the rear of the truck.
He reaches out and grabs the rear bumper and jumps onto
it. He grabs onto a handle and hangs on for his life.
The bike drops in the road and slides away.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien pulls onto a freeway and speeds up a good deal.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
Zavier is still barely holding onto the back of the
truck. He loses grip on one hand, and just starts
swinging around for a moment.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien sees Zavier swinging around in the rearview
mirror, and he tries smashing into a couple of cars.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
THe semi smashes into a very large truck. It impacts
about two feet away from where Zavier is. Zavier totally
loses his grip, and he falls off of the truck. He jumps
and hits the windshield of another car, cracking it.
INT. CAR
The driver, shocked, looks at Zavier. Zavier looks at
the driver.
ZAVIER
Speed up! Go around!
The driver nods and proceeds to do so.
EXT. CAR
Zavier situates himself on the front of the car. The
sedan pulls around the semi and starts speeding up.
Zavier looks back when he hears helicopter blades. There
is a police helicopter flying towards the scene, gaining
pretty fast. A couple of police cruisers fall in and
start following behind as well.
The car gets about halfway up to the front of the semi.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien sees the car, and then he turns the truck into it.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
The semi hits the sedan, and smashes it into the wall,
starts grinding it and smashing it up.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
Zavier shoots at the cabin of the truck. He takes out
the rearview mirror on his side, and then starts doing
his best to try to hit Damien.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Zavier's shots put a bunch of spider web cracks in the
passenger side window and the front windshield. The
passenger window shatters in. Damien ducks to avoid the
shards, and in doing so, turns the wheel of the truck.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
The truck pulls away from the small car and stops
smashing it into the wall.
INT. CAR
Zavier looks at the driver.
ZAVIER
Faster! Faster!
EXT. CAR
The car pulls up next to the cabin of the truck, and then
matches speeds with it. Zavier starts getting ready to
jump onto the truck. The police helicopter pulls up
directly above him.
LOUDSPEAKER
Driver of the silver sedan! This is
the police! Stop your car right now,
you are assisting a criminal! Stop
your car!
Zavier shoots up at the chopper, takes out the spotlight
and the speaker. The chopper pulls away about 100 feet.
INT. CAR
Zavier looks at the driver
ZAVIER
Don't slow down! Keep going!
The driver does so.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien sees the sedan pull up next to him on the
passenger side. He grabs his gun and starts shooting at
Zavier.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
Zavier ducks and does the best he can to dodge the shots.
For the most part, they go into the engine of the car.
Zavier shoots back through the passenger side door.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
THe bullets hit all around the cabin, tearing it apart.
Damien ducks, and turns the wheel on accident.
EXT. ROAD
The semi careens to the left, taking out a police
cruiser, then another police cruiser.
EXT. CAR
Zavier motions for the driver to follow the truck, and
the driver starts following the truck, slowly getting
Zavier closer to it. Zavier climbs up on the roof of the
car and gets ready.
The semi truck stops when it slams into another semi
truck, and then it starts moving back towards Zavier and
his puny little car. Zavier takes a long, long dive from
the roof of the car, and he grabs onto the cabin of the
semi truck.
INT. CAR
Zavier looks at the driver.
ZAVIER
Hey! Thanks!
EXT. CAR
The car screeches to a halt as the semi truck pounds over
the road it would have been in. The car sits there,
motionless for a moment.
INT. CAR
At the wheel of the car is the nurse that Zavier saved
earlier on.
NURSE
No problemo.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien sees Zavier hanging off the rearview mirror mount
on the passenger side. He tries shooting him through the
door.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
A dozen bullets punch through the door of the semi, and
Zavier swings away from it. He grabs onto an area just
above the wheel, and Damien stops firing. Zavier reaches
over the hood of the truck and fires into the cabin
blindly.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Zavier's bullets totally shatter the front windshield.
Damien ducks, as every window in the cabin is totally
shattered. The firing stops, and Damien resumes driving
the semi truck.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
Zavier is hanging onto the side of the cabin. Suddenly,
the truck veers to the right, and collides with another
car, just about a foot in front of Zavier. The truck
continues to go left, towards a concrete wall.
Zavier pulls himself on top of the hood, just as the
truck starts grinding against the wall. He looks into
the cabin, just as Damien points a gun at him. He jumps
onto the roof of the cabin.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien hears Zavier land over him, and he starts shooting
into the ceiling.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK - ROOF
Zavier rolls off of the roof of the tractor, and onto the
roof of the trailer. He stands up, crouching, reloads
his gun. The truck turns onto an entrance to a very high
speed, through-town route, much like a freeway. It
speeds up, and Zavier finds it harder to stay on the
truck.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien floors the gas, and the truck's speed reaches 85,
pretty fucking fast for a truck. He checks the rearview
mirrors, he can't see Zavier anywhere. He must be on the
roof.
Damien sets his course on the freeway, sets the cruise
control and locks the steering wheel. He opens the door,
and stands up on the seat.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien stands up out of the cabin, and looks around on
the back of the trailer. He sees Zavier, and starts
shooting at him. Zavier sees him, then dives on his back
and returns fire. He hits Damien in the shoulder, and
Damien grabs his arm in pain, stops shooting for a
moment. He looks back, at the road ahead, and sees that
the semi is about to hit another semi from behind.
They collide, and Damien is thrown forward. He grabs
onto the door and swings around for a few moments.
Zavier is thrown forward on top of the tailer. He
struggles for a grip, but finds none. He stops himself
by hitting the slightly outcropped edge of the trailer.
His gun, which fell out of his hand, is towards the back
of the truck.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien manages to get back into the driver's seat and
start driving again. The semi truck ahead of him goes
out of control, and does a jacknife. Damien does his
best to steer around the truck, but, in doing so, loses
control of his own truck.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
Zavier grabs his gun from the back end of the trailer,
and it suddenly lurches. He almost falls off, and then
he looks ahead and sees that the entire truck is
skidding, and is beggining to jacknife.
INT. SEMI TRUCK
Damien starts thinking of a way out, and he sees one. He
pulls a lever, and detaches his trailer. He looks back,
as it starts falling away from the tractor.
EXT. SEMI TRUCK
Zavier notices that the trailer has detached and the
tractor is pulling ahead slowly. He gets up and runs as
fast as he can towards the tractor. He dives off of the
trailer...
EXT. TRACTOR
...And lands on the back of the tractor. He looks back,
as the trailer turns completely sideways, and turns over.
It flips several times before crashing into the wall on
the side of the road and stopping.
INT. TRACTOR
Damien manages to steer around the semi truck ahead of
him. The truck flips over.
EXT. TRACTOR
The tractor pulls as far to the side of the road as it
can, smashing a few cars in the process. It tries to
pull ahead of the rolling semi as fast as it can, but the
trailer hits it, and smashes it into the wall.
Zavier gets knocked around by the impact, and he shields
his face from the sparks coming from the side of the
tractor. It eventually pulls ahead of the rolling truck.
Zavier moves over to the passenger side of the truck, and
he hangs off the side. He shoots out the front right
tire.
INT. TRACTOR
The truck suddenly lurches, and Damien suddenly has a
really hard time controlling it. He slows the truck down
and does his best to keep it going. The driver's side
door is pulled open, and Zavier swings into the cabin.
He aims his gun at Damien.
Damien grabs Zavier's gun hand and smashes it agains the
wall. He holds him there, and then kicks him in the gut.
Zavier holds on to the door, and starts swinging all
around outside the cabin. Damien fires a couple of shots
at him, but his gun runs out of ammo. He starts
reloading it.
EXT. TRACTOR
Zavier's swinging lessens, and he manages to get a bead
on one of the rear left tires. He shoots a couple of
them out.
INT. TRACTOR
The truck lurches, and Damien tries to keep it under
control, but it's even harder now.
EXT. TRACTOR
Zavier swings around, and shoots out the front left tire.
The truck starts swinging all around, totally out of
control.
INT. TRACTOR
Damien has extremely little control over where the truck
goes now. He sees an exit just ahead marked ROAD CLOSED,
and turns the wheel all the way in that direction. The
truck barely turns.
EXT. TRACTOR
It smashes through some water barrels, and grinds along
the safety rail onto the exit. It speeds down the road.
Zavier looks ahead of the truck, and sees that it is
headed straight for a very large hotel, which is under
construction. No construction crew is present, though.
He swings around the door, and grabs onto one of the
vertical exhaust pipes. He jumps onto the back of the
tractor and braces himself.
INT. TRACTOR
Damien turns the wheel as far as he can in both
directions, but he has absolutely no control over where
it goes now. He sees the hotel straight ahead, and he
ducks, hides under the dashboard.
EXT. HOTEL
The truck barrels towards the hotel. There is a ten foot
dip all around the buidling. The truck flies off the
road and through the air and into the front of the hotel.
INT. HOTEL LOBBY
It crashes straight through the front wall and into the
large, open lobby. It's trip through the air has turned
it mostly on it's nose. The front of the truck hits the
ground and it turns over upsidedown.
Zavier jumps off the rear of the truck, and he hits the
ground hard. He rolls out of the way of the truck as it
turns over. It takes out a couple of support pillars,
and a balcony caves in, right above Zavier. Zavier jumps
out of the way as ten tons of wood, metal and concrete
cave in over him.
INT. TRACTOR
Damien is unconscious, sitting on the roof of the
interior of the cabin. He wakes up, wipes some blood off
his face from a nasty gash in his forehead, and looks
around. He sees the situation he's in, and he crawls out
the window.
INT. HOTEL LOBBY
Damien crawls out of the tractor cab and the first thing
he does is pull out two pistols and get ready to fight.
He looks around for Zavier, doesn't see him anywhere. He
pulls a small plastic case out of his pocket and opens
it. Inside is the last tiny vial of the cure, still
intact. He hears something from another floor, and he
limps up a staircase to check it out.
INT. HALLWAY
Zavier collapses against a wall. He sits on the floor,
and feels his ribs, most them are probably broken. He
starts reloading his gun, and looking around. The hotel
is dark, and the only light in it is coming through the
windows from outside. Nothing much can be seen, except
that the hotel is unfinished. Boards are sitting around
everywhere, the walls are dirty, there are sheets of
plastic where windows would be.
Zavier pulls himself to his feet and starts walking down
the hall, slowly and painfully.
INT. STAIRCASE
Damien reaches the top of the staircase, in a good amount
of pain. He starts scanning down every hallway, gun
first. He hears something outside, and he goes to a
window and looks out. Outside the hotel, there are a few
police cruisers parked, and a SWAT van is pulling up to
the scene. A helicopter flies by the window, blowing the
plastic cover off. Damien hides, waits untill it passes,
and then continues looking around.
INT. HALLWAY
Zavier stops, he hears Damien's footsteps elsewhere in
the hotel. He looks to where he thinks they might be.
He hears a dozen more pairs of foosteps coming from the
lobby. He goes over to the part of the balcony that
didn't cave in.
EXT. BALCONY
He looks over the edge, and sees a large SWAT team
running into the building through the hole leftover from
the semi crash. Some flashlights shine his way, and he
ducks out of sight. He looks back, and sees them all
going up the staircase that Damien went up earlier.
INT. HALLWAY - DAMIEN
Damien hears the SWAT team running his way, and he hides
behind a corner. They all turn at the staircase and he
goes unnoticed.
INT. STAIRWELL
Zavier climbs the stairs to the seventh floor of the
hotel, and he exits the stiarwell...
INT. HALLWAY - ZAVIER
...Into a hallway. He stops and looks back, as a group
of three SWAT cops turn down his hallway and start
walking towards him. When they reach the spot where he
was, he's gone. They walk past a corner, and we see that
Zavier is hiding behind it. He comes out from his hiding
spot and gets moving.
INT. HALLWAY - DAMIEN
Damien quietly opens the door to one of the rooms and
goes inside.
INT. HOTEL ROOM
He shuts the door quietly behind him and hobbles over to
a wall, which he hides behind. He looks around the
corner, as two cops enter the room and start searching
it. Damien readies his gun.
INT. HALLWAY - ZAVIER
Zavier gets behind a corner as a pair of cops stalk past
him. He goes unnoticed. He starts moving again, when,
suddenly, gunshots sound in some other part of the hotel.
INT. HOTEL ROOM
Damien fires fifteen shots at the two cops, and kills
them both. A few more rush into the room, but Damien
dispatches them easilly. He runs out of the room.
INT. HALLWAY - ZAVIER
Some cops start running towards the sound of Damien's
gunshots. Zavier hides behind an outcropping in the wall
near a door, but not soon enough. One cop sees him and
shoots at him. Zavier fires back and kills him. Within
seconds, a dozen cops are at either end of the hallway
and are firing at Zavier.
Zavier looks across the hall and sees an elevator, not
finished, but it probably works. The cops at either end
of the hall toss some smoke grenades. They then fire
every round they have into the cloud, hoping to hit
someone. Through the gunfire, a faint DING can be heard.
The smoke starts clearing and the cops start moving in to
check for bodies. They don't find Zavier's.
INT. HOTEL ROOM
Zavier stumbles into a hotel room somewhere in the
building, breathing heavily, wounded, limping. He
collapses against one wall and starts checking out his
wounds.
EXT. HOTEL
There are now four SWAT vans parked outside the hotel.
All four sets of doors open, and four dozen guys jump out
and start prepping to go in.
INT. HALLWAY
Damien is running down a hallway. Suddenly, he rounds a
corner, and turns into a half dozen flashlights mounted
on assault rifles. He freezes for a moment, then raises
his gun to shoot the cops. He starts shooting, and then
they shoot back, put some bullets into Damien.
Damien is thrown backwards into the door of a hotel room.
INT. HOTEL ROOM
Damien stumbles towards the far wall. He tosses a
grenade, but he doesn't throw it very well. He falls
down on the floor, realizing that the grenade is not very
far away from him. BOOM!
INT. HALLWAY
The door is blown open, and the cops outside it are
killed.
INT. HOTEL ROOM
Damien is thrown around by the blast, and part of the
floor starts caving in. The entire thing caves in under
Damien, and he is caught in the debris.
INT. HOTEL ROOM
Zavier is in this room, looking over his wounds. The
ceiling starts caving in over his head. He runs and
dives and hides as it all caves in. He looks up once
it's all done. The dust settles, and Zavier looks
around. He sees Damien, trapped under a very large piece
of debris. They just stare at eachother for a moment.
ZAVIER
Damien...right?
DAMIEN
...I...don't know.
There is a long moment of silence.
DAMIEN
But I know who you are. Zavier.
Zavier nods.
DAMIEN
...I'm sorry.
ZAVIER
No!
Zavier points his gun in Damien's face.
DAMIEN
Go ahead. Do it.
Zavier wants to pretty badly. After a moment of thought,
he lowers his gun, and takes Damien's. He sits against
the wall, next to the window. He glances out the window
periodically.
DAMIEN
Why not?
ZAVIER
I just can't.
There is a long moment of silence.
DAMIEN
Who are we?
ZAVIER
I'm me. You're you.
DAMIEN
Who am I?
ZAVIER
Damien.
(BEAT)
Who am I?
DAMIEN
Zavier.
(BEAT)
But what's in a name?
There is silence for a moment. The helicopter passes by
the window.
DAMIEN
I can't tell you who you are. You
can't tell me who I am. That's
impossible.
ZAVIER
We don't know.
DAMIEN
Who does know who you are? Besides
you?
Silence.
DAMIEN
We're a lot alike.
ZAVIER
We're as different as it gets.
DAMIEN
We're not so different. But does that
make you who you are? Do our outer
struggles say anything about our inner
struggles?
There is silence for a moment. Damien pulls the plastic
case with the cure in it out of his pocket, and gives it
to Zavier. Zavier looks inside, sees the vial, then
pockets it safely.
ZAVIER
What were you doing with this?
DAMIEN
Do you have any idea how much that's
worth?
(BEAT)
Do you know where...we came from?
ZAVIER
We're --
DAMIEN
No, nevermind. Doesn't matter. I
don't want to know.
He looks out the window.
ZAVIER
Looks like they're moving in.
DAMIEN
Give me a gun.
Zavier hands Damien two pistols. Damien holds them
comfortably.
DAMIEN
Thanks.
Zavier gets up to leave, but he stops. He looks at
Damien. They just look at eachother. They stare into
eachother's eyes for one more very long moment, and then
Zavier runs for it. Damien gets ready to die.
INT. LOBBY
All fifty, heavilly armed SWAT cops are making their way
into the hotel through the hole left from the semi crash.
INT. LOBBY
All the cops flood into the building and split up into
teams before flushing everyone out of the building.
INT. HOTEL ROOM
Damien pulls a grenade out. He pulls the pin, but leaves
the lever in. He sets it on the floor, so that the
weight of the grenade holds the lever down.
He is silent for a moment. He starts screaming as loud
as he can and firing one of his guns.
INT. HALLWAY
Some cops hear it, and look at where the noise is coming
from.
INT. STAIRWELL
Every single SWAT cop in the building is flooding up the
stairwell.
INT. LOBBY
Zavier runs down some stairs. There are three cops
holding the lobby. They all turn to shoot Zavier, but he
shoots all of them without breaking stride.
INT. HOTEL ROOM
Damien looks at the door as it is kicked in by some cops.
He shoots them, and he shoots everyone who comes through
the door. They shoot back, some of the bullets punch
through the armor, but it doesn't even phase Damien. He
just keeps shooting and he keeps screaming as loud as he
can.
The grenade he set on the floor topples over and the
lever flies off. The SWAT cops see it, and doo their
best to clear the room.
COP
Grenade!
EXT. HOTEL
It explodes, taking out part of an exterior wall of the
hotel. The area is left in flames.
EXT. LOBBY
Zavier runs out of the lobby of the hotel. He looks up
as the chopper hovers overhead. It shines it's spotlight
on him and pulls in closer. Zavier freezes.
The pilot's babble on the loudspeaker is just a distant
echo. Zavier looks back into the lobby at the overtuned
semi. He carefully aims his guns at the gas tank.
Zavier fires every bullet he has directly into the gas
tank.
BOOM! The gas tank explodes, ignites the other gas
tanks, and a very large explosion is the end result.
Zavier was only about twenty feet from the source. The
blast is powerful enough to knock the helicopter around
from 40 feet away.
EXT. HOTEL
One entire face of the hotel totally collapses after the
blast. The helicopter pulls back, away from the mass
destruction, and watches as half of the building crumbles
to the ground. The chopper sticks around for a moment,
but the pilot determines that Zavier is definitely dead,
and flies away.
INT. DITCH
In the ditch, by the hotel, there is an open sewage pipe,
just large enough for one person to fit through.
EXT. CITY
The sun rises on the big city.
INT. MARKETPLACE
The marketplace is very, very busy, getting it's early
morning commuters. Few vendors can be seen through the
thick wall of people.
Mona is sitting on a bench in the marketplace. She is
sitting next to someone who is wearing a lot of bandages.
MONA
So...Where are you going to go now? I
couldn't convince you to stay with me,
could I?
The bandage man shakes his head.
MONA
...Thanks.
There is a long moment of silence.
MONA
Did it all ever come back to you?
The bandage man speaks, in Zavier's voice.
ZAVIER
Not all of it.
MONA
Are you still Zavier?
ZAVIER
That's still to come...It's not like a
yes or no question.
MONA
You've got some things to take care of,
don't you?
Zavier nods.
ZAVIER
Thanks.
Mona leands over to Zavier and kisses him. It's a little
awkward.
MONA
Goodbye.
ZAVIER
Goodbye.
Zavier starts walking away.
MONA
Will I ever see you again?
Zavier stops, looks back at Mona.
ZAVIER
...I just need a little bit of time.
Mona leans back again. Zavier walks on.
INT. ALLEY
He walks through the alley where the faded symbol of his
and Jen's love is stuck to the wall, the upside down
heart. He exits the alley.
EXT. STREET
He walks up to a car that is parallel parked, and he gets
inside.
INT. CAR
He sits down, looks at the driver, who we can't see.
ZAVIER
Let's go.
Harry is driving. He starts the car up, pulls out into
traffic and starts driving. Caitlin is sleeping in the
back seat.
HARRY
So. Who are you?
ZAVIER
Who am I?
There is a very, very long moment of silence as Zavier
thinks.
ZAVIER
I?
THE END
