In the flashback/pre-titles sequence, Bond helps the scientist (who possesses na important list) but during na action sequence where they escape the Chinese authorities, a mysterious assassin murders the scientist, although Bond is able to keep the list. Bond finishes his mission report by stating that the mission was a success (not what his face shows, due to him not being able to prevent the scientist's murder). He leaves the room, closes the door and lights a cigarrette and blows the smoke, which takes to... -The credits sequence, featuring the usual pattern, with items from casinos and accompanied by a latin-flavoured, fast-moving song. -Bond is taken from a date when he gets a call from M. _In the MI 6 Operations Room, M and Bill Tanner give him a briefing about a tip they received from as reliable informant of theirs. It concerns the true identity of a terrorrist who goes by the name of Le Chiffre, who supposedly is a member of a criminal organization known as The Cadre. -He meets the contact (na old friend) in Paris, at the Louvre. He contact is murdered, though not before saying two words: Orson Lorre, Le Chifre's real name. -Bond pursues the assassin, from the Louvre, to a foot chase through the streets of Paris, to a bike chase, until Bond ends up dangling from a ladder of na helicopter, who came to help the assassin escape, using a simple gadget (a "pistol-pen") to take down the vilain, after he loses his gun. -In his hotel room (with a view to the Eiffel Tower), while fixing a vodka martini (shaken not stirred), he gets a call from Moneypenny, giving information on Orson Lorre and his location: Royale-les-Eux. He drops his drink, grabs his gun, locks and loads. -The James Bond theme playing in the soundtrack, Bond arrives at Casino Royale, in his Aston Martin DB5. -Sade (Lorre's bodyguard) announces that Vesper Lynd won't be available for that night, having not arrived from her tour in Asia, much to the disappointment of the casino's clients. -After demonstrating to be a lucky man by winning big at blackjack and baccarat, Sade calls for the attention of Lorre (always using a vanity cane), who quickly goes to introduce himself to Bond, challenging him to a one-hand win or lose high stakes game of baccarat. Bond accepts. Obviously. -He entire casino goes silent, observing the adversaries. You can smell the suspense. And Bond looses. -Lorre, liking the grace with which Bond looses, invites him to a party in his enourmous yacht, the Buenaventura, where they will set a date for a rematch, if Bond wishes so. Bond does. -The following day, Bond observes the Buenaventura from a safe distance, in his small boat, when a very speeding boat passes by him, splattering water all over him. And smiling. -At the party, Bond is introduced to Vesper Lynd, an Euro-African beauty, by Lorre. The same woman who gave him a reluctant bath before. They recognize each other. -Lorre excuses himself after Sade approaches him. Bond, sensing something important, disappears from her company, leaving her talking to herself. -Stalking in the shadows, Bond sees a man arriving to meet Lorre. He photographs the man and follows them both. He can only hear something about a business deal between them, a shady one, of course, involving the aquasition of certain documents. When Lorre leaves (after the mystery man) to meet Vesper and doesn't find Bond, he asks for him. She opens her mouth but Bond shows up before she can utter a word. He rematch day and hour is established and Bond leaves the party. -The next day, Bond leaves his hotel, puts on the sunglasses and drives away in the direction of Casino Royale. -Suddenly, he notices somthing odd about his car. When she finishes they meet, having a chat full of innuendo(with a crash course on baccarat somewhere along the way), beyond seduction, full of passion. When they are about to kiss, Lorre and Sade show up for the event game. -Let the game begin, says Lorre. It already has, Bond replies. And so, the baccarat game is afoot, full of sweat, smoke, crowd whipers and so on. In the end, Bond wins. Quite a lot. Something along the lines of Lorre's entire fortune. -Vesper hugs Bond with force and the two of them dance passiontly to the same tune she sang before. -Lorre watches the both of them, while on the phone with someone who makes him break a line of sweat. -Bond and Vesper go to a safe place (her beach house), where they make passionate love. -In the morning, Vesper leaves for a swim, leaving him in the shower.
