Ext. - barbridge - Morning Wasteland of a town where buildings are crumbling and cars have been flipped over etc. We see Brownleaf Lodge and Brownleaf Farm and the wrecked town of Wragville North and Wragville South. Man (V.O.) We were all friends once. Our cosy little town of Barbridge. Sure we had our social divisions, the rich lived in Wragville North, the poor in the south, but there were no hints of hate or signs of distrust. The poor worked for the rich and the rich paid them well enough for it. But then they came... Cut to close up of zombie faces - various shots of zombies being zombies(eating, slow walking, zombies with industrial tools - one with chain wallet swinging one dragging a sack of pans - one holding a rotting ice cream cone - one wearing roller skates but cant stand due to the wheels) Man contd (V.O.) We dont know how they got here, we dont know what they want. We dont even know if they are alive or dead for Christs sake. All we know is that they are always hungry - hungry for human flesh. The rich got on boats and headed out into the bay after bribing and using our noble police force to help raid the town of virtually every available food source. Hardly a scrap was left behind. The bastards left us to rot in our isolated community that we now call home. The rest of us has to fend for ourselves in the town, we eventually secured the area surrounding Brownleaf Lodge. The fencing holds them back. The guards do their jobs on the towers. And with this security we were able to take farmland back further down the coast we now call Brownleaf Farm. We lost many but for the first time in months we were able to sustain ourselves with vegetables and fruits that we grew on the lands that we hold. It hasnt been easy but we sustained ourselves... 00020000060E00000874608,During the second section cut to montage of what the narrator is saying. MAN contd Without the help of those who deserted their fellow man. Cut to birdseye view and swing to boats in the bay. MAN CONTD They watch us. We have seen them watch us through their binoculars. Seeing how we are managing, I have a feeling they are jealous of us, of what we have achieved. You all left us to die - we can never forgive you FADE TO BLACK. FADE IN: EXT. early morning - bay area All 14 boats are in a close circle, almost connecting to each other CUT TO: Int. - boat - morning We see a big table with 14 men sitting and shouting at one another. One walks out, One stands up. MAN SLEDGLEY, come back here and take your seat!! Sledgley I WILL NOT TAKE MY SEAT WHEN WE, THE COMMITTEE, TALK ABOUT STUPID IDEAS WHICH CAN ONLY BE BAD FOR THIS COMMUNITY. MAN We set this committee up for the captains of each of the boats can make decisions on how this community survives, we need to be solid as one if we are to survive. SLEDGLEY And how do you suggest we survive, MOCKTON? Unless I'm mistaken your sayin that we go back to land and try to reason with the very people that we left behind in Barbridge? We left them to die in Barbridge, we thought we had everything covered but theyre now better off than us!!! We are the ones suffering now - and you know what the best thing is? Every single one of us deserve it. Mockton Shut up Sledgley!! You decided with us to leave them, there just wasnt enough boats for everyone. We had to make a decision and.. 00020000072800000E7C722,SLEDGLEY AND WE MADE THE WRONG ONE!! WE LEFT OUR FRIENDS TO DIE, MOST OF WHOM HAVE ENDED UP AS ONE OF THEM!!!!!! MOCKTON MAKES AGGRESSIVE MOVES TOWARDS SLEDGLEY. MOCKTON DON'T YOU DARE BRING UP THE PAST, YOU SON OF A BITCH - DONT TRY TO PIN THIS ON EVERYONE ELSE. WE ARE DOING THIS WHETHER YOUR WITH US OR NOT. SO SIT DOWN AND HELP - OR WALK OUT AND STOP WASTING OUR TIME. SLEDGLEY When did we all stop being a community - when did we all start acting like the things that drove us apart. The difference being that we had a choice to do right ,these creatures dont have that option. We are no better than the creatures that took over Barbridge. Maybe we should start to tell everyone the truth about what happened, maybe its time. MOCKTON Dont you dare even breath a word of the truth to anyone who is not in this room. If you do then we will have no choice but to force you into open sea. Sledgley leaves the boardroom with 2 of his crew members. Mockton takes his seat and composes himself MOCKTON Well... what do we all think of the proposal? Captain 1 Well we know what Sledgley thinks dont we? MOCKTON Sledgley has gone and is no longer part of this meeting CAPTAIN 2 Well what about Walsh Island? Cant we start our own fruit and vegetable crop there? CAPTAIN 3 No. Weve already tried that, tests show that the land will need much care and attention before we can start, it could take months before we can start producing our own food. Not to mention that no-one is sure if the area is cleared of them. CAPTAIN 2 Cant we do a clean sweep of the area? Use our soldiers to clear the area of them? Sergeant Tohney? Tohney We used alot of ammunition just getting out of Barbridge. We dont have enough fire power to take an island of that size, we would make it half way before we would have to retreat. MOCKTON 00020000072E0000159E728,And why didnt you bring more fire power? TOHNEY Because sir, my men were too busy picking up tins of peas and loading up unnecessary equipment. MOCKTON And what do you mean by that sergeant? TOHNEY I mean my men were told by various captains to not bother with our guns and to concentrate on food and water, although there were 20 men doing it already I was told that guns would not be needed in the bay. Despite my strongest protests they all seemed to fall on deaf sea ears. MOCKTON So how much do you have? TOHNEY We have 8 AR15s, one for each of my men and around half a mag each, the rest were left in Barbridge, Id put money on the people at Brownleaf owning all of the other guns, and after the army used our bay as a dock 6 months ago, the guns they left behind are with them, thats a whole lot of power. We could barely take a candy shop sir. MOCKTON Dont get funny with me sergeant. With all due respect you and your soldiers, if thats what you call them, were very lucky to be offered a spot in this community. Without these captains chances are you would all be one of them or dead. TOHNEY Excuse me sir,but i believe that it was me and my men that covered you to the bay, I believe you owe us a debt of gratitude. You owe those 20 men that died for your gratitude. MOCKTON Im sorry sergeant, but the only thing that both me and my fellow captains owe you is training to shoot better. TOHNEY How dare you!? My men die and you make fun? If you werent elected leader I would kill you where you stand. MOCKTON GET OUT OF MY CONFERENCE ROOM!! I WILL NOT STAND FOR SUCH INSUBORDINATION. AS OF NOW I MAKE DECISIONS REGARDING OUR MILITARY OPERATIONS - AS OF NOW SERGEANT TOHNEY, YOU ARE STRIPPED OF YOUR RANK. TOHNEY As long as I am no longer in charge of military action, neither me or my men will fight for you. 0002000006BE00001CC66B8,Sergeant Tohney walks out the room closely followed by the 8 members of his team. MOCKTON Well now weve sorted that we can carry on. We cant go to Walsh Island to grow our own food. We cant take Brownleaf Lodge or Brownleaf Farm - we just dont have the fire power for it. CAPTAIN 2 We just cant go to Brownleaf Lodge and try to negotiate with them? Weve already sent out 6 people to negotiate and not one of them have come back. MOCKTON We dont know why they didnt come back - maybe they were got by the creatures. All I know is that there are next to no food supplies - indications show that we have 1 week on normal rations then we are down to emergency rations. A fortnight after that we start to starve. For some reason fish supplies are dwindling. We havent had a decent catch for weeks. In 4 weeks we could start dying. I dont see another alternative. CAPTAIN 2 How confident are you that this time we can manage to negotiate with them? I can tell you that Im not at all sure that this is worth it. MOCKTON Well we have to do it. We must find someone to go. CAPTAIN 2 Well I for one vote for confident Mocktons baby boy!! MOCKTON WHAT? My son is not going. He is no where near prepared. He is not trained in firearms, he cant hold a gun, let alone fire one CAPTAIN 2 Well why would he need to be prepared? All he has to do is ask for fruit and vegetables right? No fighting needed. MOCKTON HES NOT GOING. CAPTAIN 2 Well I think we should put it down to a democratic vote. All in favour raise their hands. Well over half the room raise their hands CAPTAIN 2 The committee have spoken. MOCKTON Fuck you, SLICKTON. This meeting is over. Slickton Prepare your son, captain, he leaves within the hour. 0002000006280000237E622,CUT TO: INT. cabin on captain mocktons boat - moRNING We see a dirty cabin, clothes on the floor, beer cans everywhere, a typical young guys room. Rock music is playing in the background. Captain Mockton enters. MOCKTON SIMON, you here son? Simon, early 20s, emerges from a room towards the back of the cabin, a bathroom. SIMON Yeah dad, whats up? MOCKTON Take a seat, we need to have a little talk. SIMON Sure thing, whats up? Both Simon and Mockton takes seats on Simons bed. MOCKTON The committee has made a decision. We are going to send two people to Brownleaf Lodge to negotiate fruit and vegetables from them in exchange for fish. SIMON Do we have enough fish? Ive worked the fishing shifts and we havent been pulling in alot over the last 2 months, next to nothing in fact. MOCKTON I know, we are putting in all our available fish stock to swap. If this doesnt work, were gonna be in a bad way! SIMON Ok, so why you telling me this? MOCKTON The committee voted to who they wanted to go to Brownleaf to negotiate. SIMON Who have they chosen? Mockton looks depressingly at his son. SIMON Me? Mockton nods his head, tears in his eyes SIMON But why me? I have no training in this, I cant fight and Im not a skilled negotiator. They cant seriously expect me to go. What weapons will I have? MOCKTON Well, youll each be given an AR15 and around 3 mags. SIMON Is that enough! MOCKTON Thats all we have to give you. SIMON Im not ready for this dad. Ill never be ready for this. I swore I would never go back to Barbridge. Not after what happened to mum. 0002000007C8000029A07C2,MOCKTON I know it still hurts, son but you would have to go back sooner or later, might as well be when you try to save the community. You know she would be proud of you for going. SIMON Do you think she is one of them? Mockton glares at his son, tears in his eyes. MOCKTON Shes not one of them!! Dont you ever say that. SIMON Well what can I think? You said she was at the theatre, it was the first place to be hit. She didnt stand a chance. Can I ask a question? MOCKTON If you must. SIMON When you arrived at the theatre, what happened, where did you go? MOCKTON OH GOD!! WHY DO WE HAVE TO GO OVER THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN?! IT HURTS JUST AS MUCH FOR ME YOU KNOW. SIMON I KNOW DAD BUT IF YOU WANT ME TO GO BACK I NEED YOU TO TELL ME THE TRUTH! Mockton takes a deep breath, sighs and moves towards the window. MOCKTON When I arrived there were so many people screaming and running. Shots could be heard from inside the building - I got out of my car and ran inside, knowing your mother, she would still be in there, demanding to know why the show stopped. When i go inside I found JAMES, he was meant to be there with your mom, he was our best friend and he left her there alone and scared. I searched for what seemed like an age - then she was there, alone on the floor with those things all over her tearing at her. I tried to fend them off but there were too many and it was too late. She was gone... so I came home grabbed you and I was out the door. We had so little time to get to the dock. The boats left that night leaving the others behind, we tried to bring as many as we could across but we just couldnt, there was no time. Almost the entire town had been cordoned off by the military. Ive never forgiven myself, I shouldve gone with her that night. Wanted to watch the play-offs instead. She looked so beautiful that night and I never told her. I her told her how much I loved her. Simon stands up, looking much more determined. SIMON How long till I go? 00020000064800003162642,CUT TO: EXT. the mother boat - mORNING We can see a group of men by a lifeboat, undoubtedly the same lifeboat that will be taking Simon and his partner to Brownleaf Lodge. SlICKTON Your son is ready? Simon strides forward towards Slickton SIMON Yeah Im ready. I heard you were the one who volunteered my services? SLICKTON I may have suggested certain names. SIMiON Just mine, if what Ive been told is true. SLICKTON Well, maybe SiMON Captain? MOCKTON As you are aware Slickton whenever someone is forced to go on a mission for the community he or she are allowed to chose one companion to go with them to assist in the successful completion of the mission. SLICKTON So what? MOCKTON Who do you choose to go with you on this diplomatic mission? SIMON TODD SLICKTON will accompany me. SLICKTON NOT A FUCKING CHANCE. NO CHANCE IN HELL. MOCKTON YOU SON OF A BITCH. THIS IS YOUR FAULT. Slickton makes moves towards Mockton but is held back by Tohney. SLICKTON Youre lucky theres not just us two. MOCKTON Come on Todd - cant be late now. Todd Dad? I dont have to go do I? MOCKTON Hell yeah you gotta go! TODD Fuck you Mockton, fuck you! MOCKTON You gotta go, its the rules. TODD Dad? SLICKTON Im sorry (Breaks down and cries) Todd is put into the boat and it is lowered into the bay. The two men row the boat. As the boat reaches its destination Slickton turns round and punches Mockton in the face, knocking him to the ground. SLICKTON If he dies Mockton - I swear Ill kill you. If my boy dies and yours survives I'll kill both of you. Slickton storms off to the bridge of the boat. CUT TO: 0002000006D3000037A46CD,EXT. barbridge shore - morning We see Todd and Simon pull their boats up to shore, as soon as they get out they pull out their AR15s and check out the immediate areas. Todd stumbles upon a group of around 7 zombies eating a human being. Todd takes aim but is stopped by Simon. SIMON (whisper) We need to save ammo. Dont use it unless absolutely necessary. We dont wanna get caught out. As they begin to move out Todd steps on and snaps a twig, causing a loud noise. All of the zombies eventually become aware of the 2 men and make moves towards them. Todd starts shooting, Simon shoots too. After knocking 3 down... TODD Fuck this, Im gone Todd begins to run away. SIMON TODD! TODD! TODD! GET BACK HERE RIGHT NOW, I NEED YOUR GUN!! Suddenly 3 men come from round the back of Simon and take out the remaining zombies with stunning accuracy. A lead man comes forward MaN Name? SIMON Si...Simon Mockton MAN Where are you from? SIMON The boats. The man immediately takes out his gun and points it at Simon. MAN How many are here!? SIMON Just two. MAN Wheres the other one? SIMON I dont know. The man cocks his gun at Simon as if to shoot it. MAN LIAR! SIMON He ran away in that direction (pointing to his left) The man looks in the direction Simon is pointing and smirks. MAN Hes dead. SIMON What do you mean hes dead? MAN You said that way? Hes running straight into Barbridge, straight into their territory. What sort of weapon did he have? SIMON He had an AR15 and about a mag and a half left. The man laughs. MAN Yeah, hes dead. No-one goes into Barbridge with no weapon and comes out again. If youre lucky theyll get him by the time he hits a hundred feet. Maybe you can recover whats remaining of him and have a half funeral. 00020000083000003E7182A,SIMON Who are you? MAN All you need to know is that I'm from Brownleaf Lodge and you need to get out of here before I put bullets in your chest. SIMON No wait, I need to speak with whoever is in charge. Man drags Simons face to his gun, forcing it in his face. MAN Dont you dare tell me what you need to do. YOU left US here, remember? Go on, speak. What you gotta say boy? SIMON So youre the man in charge? MAN No I aint, i just wanna hear what you gonna say. There is the rumble of wheels and the squeak of an axel in the distance. A small trailer comes into view it has 4 wheels and on top there is a man with a pole. Directly in front of the trailer there are 6 zombies wearing crash helmets. Their visors are blacked out but are presently up. Another man on a pushbike riding a few feet in front of the trailer. The zombies are stumbling towards the man which moves the trailer. Man 2 SLOW THEM DOWN! The man with the pole knocks the visors down stopping the zombies, who are just swaying on the spot. Man 3 Whos that, BANAGNER? Banagner He wont say, he just wants to speak to the boss. MAN 3 Shall we take him? Or shall we see what he wants first then decide if he goes to the boss? SIMON Why arent they moving towards us, they must know we are here? BANAGNER Not these little fuckers. We caught them, bit of surgery makes them totally deaf. All we do is get CLARKE there to ride out in front of them, they see him, they go for him and when we want them to stop we give these little visors a tap. Little assholes get so confused they just stand there swaying. Now, why dont you tell me why you and your little friend are here? SIMON Theres no time. I need to speak to your boss now! Man hits Simon really hard in the stomach, winding him. Simon drops to the ground struggling for air MAN Do you want us to tie you up here? Cos we will, we have before and we will again. SIMON I just want to talk, i have things to trade (gasp) , please, i dont want to die here. MAN 3 Are we going or arent we , it isnt doing much good to keep my horsemen standing , theyre getting restless. 0002000006360000469B630,BANAGNER Tie him up and stick him on the trailer, when you get back , put him straight into the holding pen and keep him gagged, dont let anyone near him until we get back. MAN 3 Your not coming back with me? BANAGNER There were two of them, one ran away and we dont want him out there causing trouble for us,it Shouldnt take long to find whats left of him MAN 3 Whatever you say. Banagner and his men tie up Simon and load him onto the trailer. MAN 2 Knock em up The man with the pole hooks onto the visors and lifts them one by one , the horsemen catch sight of the man on the pushbike and lunge towards him, pulling the trailer in the process, the cyclist and the trailer slowly roll away out of sight, Banagner and his men turn away and disappear into the woodland. CUT TO: EXT. Brownleaf Lodge - morNING We can see all of Brownleaf Lodge with different camera angles. Man 3 pulls into the checkpoint just outside the gates. A woman appears with a sniper rifle. Woman What have you got there , firewood? Clothes? MAN 3 Nothing that exciting, its one of the sailors from the bay WOMAN Brave to come here huh? , So what we gonna do with...? Is it a he or a she? SIMON Im a guy! My name is... The man on the trailer quickly turns around and punches Simon in the face, knocking him on his back MAN 3 Doesnt know when to shut up does he? WOMAN Are we gonna kill him? MAN 3 I would love to, but we should wait to see what he wants, if the boss isnt interested then we can either return him to his ship or, more likely , we slaughter him and leave him at the docks as a warning. 00020000061500004CCB60F,WOMAN I know its a horrible thing to say, its what they deserve, listen , Im posted here at the gate for another two days, if he is to be killed, try to find me a replacement so I can watch this guy get torn up. MAN 3 Its a date. The barrier is lifted and the trailer rolls through, the man with the pole knocks the zombie visors down and the trailer comes to a halt. Man 2 and 3 both dismount their vehicles and lift the still unconscious Simon down from the trailer and start dragging him towards the lodge. Simon regains consciousness. SiMON Where are you taking me? MAN 3 Shut the fuck up! Man 3 punches Simon in face and knocks him out. We see Simon being thrown 12ft into a cage. MAN 3 Well wait till the boss comes back - then youll get whats comin. CUT TO: EXT. Barbridge outskirts - aFTERNOON We see Todd running towards Barbridge, making alot of noise, clearly still scared. TODD What the fuck am I doing here? I need to get back to the boat As Todd turns back he sees a group of around 15 zombies walking towards him 20ft away. Panicking he drops his gun on the ground, by the time his gun is back in his hand the zombies are too close to enable him to take out all 15 before they reach him. He begins shooting recklessly missing the head. Banagner turns up with his two men and begin to take out the zombies again with amazing accuracy. After all the zombies are dead Banagner turns to Todd. BANAGNER You came in a boat yes? TODD Oh god!! BANAGNER Dont panic, I know where Simon is - I can take you to him. TODD You killed him!!! 0002000009F1000052DA9EB,BANAGNER WAIT!!! Todd runs away screaming and drawing attention to himself and Banagner. BANAGNER WAIT!! YOURE DRAWING THEM TO YOU! AND US!!!!! Todd starts shooting at the zombies erratically and missing heads, shooting shoulders. BANAGNER You had your chance. Banagner takes aim and shoots Todd in the head with 1 bullet. Zombies then begin to eat Todd. CUT TO: EXT. cage in brownleaf lodge - hours later Man 3 approaches the cage and throws water at him to wake him up. SiMON Wha..whats happening? Man 3 Come on, its time to meet the boss. Hope you can beg. CuT TO: EXT. bROWNLEAF LODGE courtyard - momentS LATER Todd is led to a courtyard, hands still bound, a man and a woman sit at the top of a platform. Man 3 REEVES reporting sir, this man has requested to speak with you. He says he wishes to negotiate. Boss Thankyou Reeves, I hear you have come from the bay, that 2 of you tried to sneak into our home and steal from us. I dont care how much fish you have and how little we have and I refuse to negotiate with those who left us to die. SIMON They had no time! The entire town had been cordoned off, if they could have taken you they would. BOSS Is that what they told you? Of course it is! Let me enlighten you. The night it started there was a cordon, around a quarter mile around the theatre. It broke out there ysee, and every single one of em was inside the cordon zone. Had the military been left to do their jobs, not pulled off to ransack the town of supplies we could have kept them there for days, maybe even been able to kill all of em. But those bastards who have all the money decided to get outta dodge. When the military left the cordon to get supplies, took em two hours to break through. We still got to the docks with plenty of time, but they wouldnt let anyone on. If anyone tried they were shot. We had to watch as they sailed off, ready to watch us die. They deserve nothing from us but hate! Aaahhhhh Captain Banagner, I trust everything went according to plan BANAGNER Yes sir, mission accomplished. BOSS It seems we found your friend. SiMON Is he OK? BANAGNER Well I dont think hell be a bother anymore. He throws an AR15 to Simon - the arm is still holding the AR15 SIMON You bastards! BANAGNER They got him, there was nothing we could do. Simon begins to cry. BOSS Take him out, kill him and stick him to a pole on shore - show those people not to do business with us. SIMON No, please listen to me I beg of you ple-- Banagner hits Simon with the butt of his rifle knocking him out instantly. 00020000063D00005CC5637,FADE TO BLACK. FADE IN: EXT. ON THE PATH LEADING UP TO THE LODGE - NIGHT The woman from the checkpoint is making her way up to the lodge, a man passes her to relieve her post she nods to him and continues up the path until she reaches the door to the lodge, standing in front of the lodge is Banagner who is watching the horizon with night vision binoculars. BANAGNER Hey KELLY , shift finished already? KELLY I managed to finish early today so i can see that guy they picked up earlier try to talk his way back to his fleet. BANAGNER I dont think he will make it, the boss didnt give him chance to explain himself. I seem to remember seeing that guy around town before everything went bad, anyway, arent you a little eager to see him suffer, thats very unladylike. KELLY I have every right to watch , you know that, so do you. BANAGNER Yes i do, and i dont feel like a monster for thinking this way KELLY So, where are they keeping him. BANAGNER In the cage over by the woodstore, we would have kept him in the cellar in the garage but we have some undead guys down there, reeves has some plans for them. KELLY Im surprised you didnt throw that guy in with them, let them have a little fun with him. BANAGNER Thats always an option . This guy however may... Suddenly Banagners radio crackled, Banagner plucks it from his belt. BOSS (on radio) Banagner , are you receiving, over. BANAGNER Receiving, whats your message, over. BOSS (on radio) can you step inside , i need a word , over. BANAGNER Im on my way , radio to standby. KELLY Sounds important, did you do something wrong? 00020000063A000062FC634,BANAGNER What, me? Probably. Banagner smirks at Kelly then makes his way into the lodge, he knocks on the door to the office. BOSS Come in! BANAGNER You wanted a word sir. BOSS Yes, that sailor you brought in , what have you done with him? BANAGNER Hes still in the cage, its too dark to do anything to him now , unless you want us to burn him. BOSS No, well, not tonight anyway. BANAGNER Thats a shame sir, its getting quite cold out there. BOSS (laughing) im sure it is,i have been thinking about why they keep sending us people to hurt, by now their supplies will be running short, it was inevitable. You know what i think. BANAGNER What? BOSS I think they are attempting to move back onto land and keep their boats ready should a second wave of killings start, they would do like they did before, take our supplies and escape to sea, they would have the best of both worlds. BANAGNER Thats how i feel too, it will not happen again. BOSS Thats why we will never deal with them again, but they dont know that. what type of boat did those sailors arrive on this morning? BANAGNER Just a dinghy, it can hold about four people. BOSS Pity, i was hoping for something larger, and thats why i called you here, the guest in the cage, we could come up with a plan to use him as a hostage or something, i get the feeling that they are a little short on dinghys as we have about five of theirs from their previous attempts, if they want to send us another sailor they will have to come in a bigger boat, and when they do, we would take it from them, you see where i am going with this? 00020000067700006930671,BANAGNER Yes sir, yes i do. CUT TO: EXT. bROWNLEAF LODGE COURTYARD - mORNING Simon is still tied up and is standing with Banagner in front of the Boss. BOSS The decision has been made. Mr. Banagner please take the prisoner out to Brownleaf Shore and kill him. Afterwards you will string him up on a pole. This will serve as a lesson to all those who try to deceive us. Take him away. SIMON NO PLEASE LET ME GO, PLEASE, I DONT WANT TO DIE Banagner hits Simon, knocking him unconscious. A zombie cart draws up next to them, the man gets off and Banagner gets on, Simon is put in the back. Reeves Hang on, I was told that I was gonna do it. I wanna do it! BOSS I have chosen Banagner. You will remain here. Reeves draws his gun to Banagner. REEVES He will not go! I will go in his place. BOSS PUT YOUR GUN DOWN REEVES OR YOU WILL BE STRIPPED OF YOUR GUN AN THROWN INTO BARBRIDGE!!!!! Reeves gives one last longing look at Banagner and puts his gun down. The gate opens and the cart leaves. Cut TO: EXT. path towards brownleaf shore - mORNING Around 3/4 into their journey Banagner stops after hearing a loud scream. Simon What was that? BANAGNER Shut up! SIMON Untie me, if any of them are here im a sitting duck. BANAGNER Shut up or ill kill you 8 zombies come out of the wilderness and approach the cart. After a brief fight all are put down. Banagner turns round to notice the cart still moving, he neglected to put the visors down. BANAGNER OH FUCK!! Deciding he needs to kill them he tries to shoot them but a shell is stuck in his ejection port. He has to kill them with his machete. After a prolonged killing spree Banagner off-loads Simon 00020000069200006FA168C,BANAGNER We walk from here. CUT TO: EXT. woodland outside barbridge - momenTS LATER Banagner cuts Simon free. BANAGNER We can cut a deal or you can die SiMON A deal sounds good. BANAGNER We have a store room in Barbridge. We need fertilizer and seeds to carry on growing crops in Brownleaf Farm, if you can get these for us we can guarantee trade. SIMON But whats stopping me from taking them and returning to my community? BANAGNER Because if you do, ill put a mag in your chest. SIMON Where are the items. Banagner hands Simon a map. BANAGNER There is a store house next to the Barbridge observatory. Everything is in there. You will not have any weapons. SIMON But you said that if anyone goes into Barbridge with no weapons then they die. BANAGNER Set a new trend. SIMON But... BANAGNER Listen, its either you do as we ask and you have a chance of both life and trade OR I take you to the shore and kill you. SIMON What if I head in but I try to escape after you lose sight of me. BANAGNER Then I go to your boat - sink it and head back to Brownleaf Lodge. Then I give you 4 hours before you come into contact with at least one of them - depending on how you handle that you could have 2, maybe 3 hours before they get you. SIMON I could just swim across the bay BANAGNER Why do you think we have people trained as snipers? We have at least 2 fully trained snipers watching the bay at all times. We arent stupid. You have no choice. Do it (holds gun up) or die. SIMON How long do I have??? BANAGNER If you are not back to Brownleaf Lodge inside of 5 hours we will assume you have not completed the task due to your death. Thats the house record. You have 5 hours. 00020000062D0000762D627,SIMON Why do I have a time limit at all. BANAGNER Cos then ill tell my men to shoot you, ill tell them youre a zombie and to shoot on site Simon takes a look at Barbridge. SIMON Where is it? BANAGNER You will enter through Wragville North and make your way through the city to Wragville South. The store room is next to the observatory. Here, youll need this (hands Simon a flare gun) when you get to the store room and find the items, go to the roof and fire this, I will then send a truck to the city limits and leave the keys inside so you can make a quick getaway. SIMON I thought I wasnt gonna get a weapon BANAGNER You have 1 round. Believe me, if you fire it off early, hundreds will flock to you. Fire it off when you have the stock, then run like hell. And dont think about driving that truck anywhere else, ill have the fuel emptied just enough to get you back here. SIMON How many sacks have i got to get for you, how exactly do i get them to the truck?. BANAGNER Find something out there, the market is just down the street from the store room, look for a trolley. SIMON What type of seeds, are they in sacks or containers, the fertilizer, any ideas?. BANAGNER No idea, it doesnt matter anyway, you can read, get a selection and fire the flare, its that simple. SIMON Will the storeroom be locked? BANAGNER WHAT DOES IT MATTER, IF IT IS LOCKED, BREAK IN OK GENIUS, THE OWNER WONT MIND, HES DEAD,GET GOING! Simon turns towards barbridge and sets off walking, Banagner stands and watches Simon disappear down the road and then heads back towards the farm. 00020000064800007C54642,FADE OUT. FADE IN: EXT. barbridge service station , morning. Simon arrives at the service station and crouches out of sight behind a abandoned car, in the station itself there are all the indications of a struggle, broken glass, abandoned vehicles and a strong rotting smell. In a box outside the service bay there is a tire iron, Simon picks it up and inspects it, with a rag he wipes some torn flesh off the end. Cautiously he makes his way down the road, inside a corner cafe he sees movement, he pauses, then decides not to risk passing it and turns back to the service station, a shambling zombie shuffles out of the garage adjoining the station, the zombie moans as it sees Simon and advances towards him, wanting to avoid the attention, Simon stays low and creeps past the cafe, as he gets to the end of the cafe a zombie bangs hard on the window, Simon jumps back and falls over an overturned park bench, hitting his head on the hard floor, when he composes himself his foot is grabbed by a zombie who is trapped under the bench. Simon delivers a swift kick to the head of the zombie, who releases his grip. Simon stands up as the zombie in the cafe beats its fist through the door and falls into the street. SIMON Im not gonna make it halfway to that god damn store room. Simon notices an arm round the corner of the shop, he walks towards it when a man turns around and points his gun at Simon. SIMON Who the fuck are you? The man grabs Simon and throws him into the store room behind the cafe. SIMON Who are you? MAN Banagner sent me to make sure youre doing your job - a sign of faith. 00020000067F00008296679,SIMON Wait a minute, if Banagner sent you here, why didnt he send a bunch of you instead of just me? MAN Theres more than just seeds in the store room. Theres stuff in there that you must read. You must know the truth. What really happened between us. SIMON I dont understand (turns his back on man) why do i need to rea-- When Simon turns his back the man is gone. CUT TO: INT. Captains cabin on mocktons ship. - mOMENTS LATER Captain Mockton is looking at pictures of his wife and son, tears rolling down his eyes. Sailor Captain? We need you on deck sir, a dinghy is headed towards us. CUT TO: EXT. Mocktons ship - mOMENTS LATER A mall dinghy an be seen coming towards the ship. Mockton grabs some binoculars. MOCKTON Its not Simon. SlICKTON Todd? Mockton shakes his head MOCKTON When that dinghy gets here grab him, we need to have a chat. When the dinghy gets 50ft away the man rowing jumps into the bay and begins to swim back to shore. MOCKTON Damn, bring that dinghy in! When the boat is brought in, Mockton grabs a note lying inside. MOCKTON Oh my god. Everyone to the council room CUT TO: INT. council room - morning All captains are gathered around a table. SlICKTON Why have you called us here on such short notice, you better have some information. Mockton stands up. MOCKTON The note we received from Brownleaf, if true, puts us all in a bad way. According to the note Simon is currently in Barbridge trying to get supplies for the people of Brownleaf, but is having severe difficulty. The note has requested that we all help in his task, if we do, and we bring the supplies back to them they will guarantee trade for as long as we need. 0002000006820000890F67C,SLICKTON What about Todd? Did they say what happened to Todd? MOCKTON The creatures got him, he ran away, leaving Simon to die and they got him instead. SLICKTON NO!! NO!!! YOURE LYING!!! YOU SON OF A BITCH. YOU KILLED HIM, YOU SENT HIM THERE, YOU KILLED HIM (sobs) you killed him MOCKTON Take him to his ship, look after him. Two sailors take Slickton away, who is sobing uncontrollably. MOCKTON So now we must decide what to do. CAPTAIN 1 What do you mean? Its obviously some cheap trick. I say we do nothing, call their bluff. CAPTAIN 2 But what if they are right? We cant risk our lives on thinking its a trick. CAPTAIN 1 Its too risky. CAPTAIN 2 I wasnt suggesting that you should be the one to go, or myself for that matter, Tohney is the man i have in mind, and his eight men, Tohney is a sailor himself and can handle a yacht, we no longer need his protection out here and we can trust him to get the job done with no risk to us. CAPTAIN 1 Are you going to be the one to break it to him. CAPTAIN 2 Why not, while i get them together, you transfer everybody off the sea snake and onto the other yachts , then load up the snake with whatever rifles we can spare. Captain 2 leaves to find Tohney and his men, Mockton goes out on deck, Captain 1 follows him. CAPTAIN 1 What do you think, this could be it. MOCKTON Could be, if this doesnt work , well, then we get serious. CAPTAIN 1 How serious? MOCKTON Nothing that we need to discuss now, you had better start unloading the sea snake, keep me informed. Captain 1 leaves and climbs over the barrier to the sea snake, Mockton turns toward land and raises his binoculars , gazing across the sea. 00020000064E00008F8B648,CUT TO: Captain 2 Sergeant Tohney, a word. TOHNEY Are you coming here by orders of Captain Mockton? CAPTAIN 2 Orders? No. Request? Yes Tohney takes out a knife and holds it to his throat TOHNEY I will not talk to anyone who does the bidding of that son of a bitch. CAPTAIN 2 You will talk to me, or i will... Tohney punches Captain 2 to the ground, causing him to bleed from his lip. TOHNEY You are quickly losing support around here, All of you. CAPTAIN 2 So are you, maybe by doing us this favour , you could set things right. TOHNEY You just dont get it do you? , We dont want to help you, we died helping you last time. You can all fend for yourselves. My men will not fight for you, eat shit. CAPTAIN 2 Just hear me out..... Tohney again punches Captain 2, causing blood to fall freely from his nose. CAPTAIN 2 You son of a bitch. Fine, you and youre men will go to land and help Mocktons son. After you have found him you will help him in whatever mission he is doing. Understand me, boy? Tohney jumps on Captain 2, throwing punch after punch at his already beaten body. TOHNEY SAY IT AGAIN! SAY IT AGAIN! 4 sailors then enter and begin punching Tohney into a state of unconsciousness. CAPTAIN 2 Take him to Mockton, hes going, one way or another. CUT TO: INT. council meeting room - mOMENTS LATEr Tohney is tied to a chair, a sailor is holding a damp cloth to Tohneys head, in walks Mockton and Captain 1. Tohney regains consciousness. MOCKTON Sergeant Tohney, you are called to answer charges including a savage and unprovoked attack a superior officer. What do you have to say for yourself? 00020000073F000095D3739,TOHNEY FUCK YOU! MOCKTON As the defendant has no case for a defence I can only find him guilty of the said charge. Your punishment will be to go to land and assist my son in whatever he is doing in Barbridge. TOHNEY And if i refuse? IF I SAY NO TO HELPING THAT LITTLE PRICK OF A SON OF YOURS? MOCKTON THEN YOU WILL NO LONGER BE A MEMBER OF THIS CREW AND WILL BE FORCED TO LIVE ON LAND, SUCKING FOOD OFF THE GROUND, just like your family. TOHNEY Suits me , i dont want to be a part of your crew, not many people want to be these days. Mockton sighs MOCKTON We can stay here all day barking obscenities , hear me out and you wont have to tolerate me for much longer. TOHNEY (beat)Speak. MOCKTON i want you to go to barbridge and assist my son in whatever he is doing, this will benefit us all , those lovely people at brownleaf are starting to soften up, they say if we do as they ask, they will trade with us, it doesnt take a genius to see that we will be better off in this deal than they will be. TOHNEY How exactly does this benefit me? MOCKTON Heres what i am prepared to do for you, when you are ready, you may take the sea snake as yours. There is not alot of gas in the tank and there has been no strong wind for weeks but you an your men may stay on that boat and live in it, in fact,i will give you the sea snake, your own vessel, so you may leave if you wish, but if you stay not only will you be one of the captains but you will also be guaranteed trade with the people of Barbridge. What do you say? TOHNEY What guarantees are there that you will keep to your word? MOCKTON You have none. But if you refuse, I will have no choice but to order you to be taken to Wragville north, stripped of your clothes and tied to a tree so they can carry out the punishment for your assault on a captain, a crime you know is punishable by death. 00020000067300009D0C66D,Cut TO: EXT. mocktons ship - mORNING Tohney and a group of men are being loaded onto a boat. TOHNEY Mockton! MOCKTON What is it? TOHNEY I need more men. There is no chance of this plan being a success with only a small group of men. I need every man you can spare. MOCKTON Not a chance! Tohney gets off the Sea Snake and moves to within inches of Mocktons ear TOHNEY (WHISPER) Think about it. If we succeed you get trade. If we dont and we all die, you will have enough food to keep you and the rest of the captains for years. MOCKTON (WHISPER) How many do you need? TOHNEY (WHISPER) Everyone bar the captains MOCKTON (WHISPER) Thats 100 men! TOHNEY (WHISPER) They are expendable. Mockton turns to the other captains MOCKTOn (Long beat) Tell every sailor they will be accompanying Sergeant Tohney on his trip. CAPTAIN 2 Are you fucking insane? What if they fail? MOCKTON Then we will not have to worry about feeding 100 men and running out of food. CAPTAIN 2 You sick bastard!(Smirks) CUT TO: INT. store room - mOMENTS LATER Simon is sitting in the store room surrounded by crops and other items needed by the people at Barbridge. He is reading a book of some sort. At the end of the booklet is a tape recorder. He presses play. Voice 1 Where have they gone? Voice 2 I dunno, they drove off. They are gonna go to the dock. We gotta move now. How many rounds do we have? Sounds of screaming and running can be heard close by. VOICE 1 3 between us. What about the others? VOICE 2 THERE ARE NONE! THEY LEFT US AND EVERYBODYS DEAD!! WE NEED TO CATCH UP WITH THEM. WE HAVE TO MOVE NOW!!! The two voices can be heard running and calling for help. 0002000006490000A379643,VOICE 1 Fuck!! Theyve already gone, whatre we gonna do? VOICE 2 Go back into town, find others and then we can figure out a way to stay alive. VOICE 1 Oh shit!! They must have followed us. They are blocking our way back and now they are blocking our way forward too. Were fucked!! Two shots are heard. VOICE 1 Theres no point, theres too many of them. VOICE 2 Every man for himself. Here, you take the recorder I wont need it. VOICE 1 Wait!!! Noises of voice 2 trying to get past wall of zombies but not working, screams can be heard. VoiCE 1 TTTTTTOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!! Zombie groans get louder, indicating they are getting nearer VOICE 1 Listen I know Im dead but if anyone hears this message then promise me 1 thing, you track down and kill that son of a bitch Mockton and his little helper Slickton. They killed us to save their own asses. Make them pay Groans get louder still. VOICE 1 1 bullet... better put it to good use Last shot can be heard then the zombies move in, slurping noises can be heard. Simon turns the recorder off - tears in his eyes. CUT TO: EXT. the sea snake - lATER Sergeant Tohney is on board the Sea Snake along with his men and all the sailors. TOHNEY Listen up - in around 5 minutes we will dock on shore. We need to find the boy, take the supplies to Brownleaf Lodge then get the hell outta there. Dont travel alone, groups of at least 5. If you get in danger shout out your position and we will come to you. No-one try be a hero and get yourselves killed. CUT TO: EXT. shore of barbridge - minutes later. Tohney gets off first, followed closely by his soldiers. 0002000006230000A9BC61D,TOHNEY Ok. Everyone spread out 100 yards and make sure the area is secure, you and you (pointing at two sailors) get the weapons from the Sea Snake. My men and i will have the guns - the rest will have knives and bats - whatever you can find. The two sailors nod and go back to the boat. CUT TO: EXT. woodland - moments lATER All 100 men have reached the 100 yard line set by Tohney, Tohney swiftly joins them. Zombies are visible around 50 yards away. TOHNEY Everyone stand fast. The men should be back soon with weapons, keep a lookout. A couple of minutes later and the two sailors have not returned. TOHNEY Where the hell are they? Briggs? Briggs Yes sir. TOHNEY Go back to the Sea Snake and see what is taking those sailors so long. BRIGGS Yes sir. Briggs runs off into the woodland. After a few minutes all three men have not yet come back. The zombies edge closer. TOHNEY What the fuck is taking them so long? You, you and you come with me, the rest of you fall back 40 yards. Stay away from those things. Tohney and the three sailors run back to the boat and see Briggs lying on the ground, covered in his own blood. TOHNEY What the --?? Tohney then notices the two sailors jumping into a dinghy with all the weapons. TOHNEY What are you doing? Come back!! SAILOR Captain Mockton sends his regards. Look for yourself. (Points towards boats) Tohney looks through in his binoculars at the ship and sees Mockton waving back at him. SAILOR Looks like we wont be seeing you again. No weapons on land? I give you 2 hours before all of you are part of the party. 00020000064B0000AFD9645,TOHNEY So whats he paying you for this? Life of luxury? SAILOR He told us that if you guys die we can survive on the food we already have. We can survive for years when there is just a few mouths to feed. No need to trade!! TOHNEY If I ever see you again you can be sure that i will kill you, and you can tell that to your captains too. Sailors set off in dinghy. Tohney is helpless to stop them. SAILOR Look after yourselves. Oh... and be sure to entertain you dead friends. The sailor then proceeds to light up the sky with a modified flare that lets out a massive screech and a blinding light. SAILOR Oops! Sorry, my finger slipped. Looks like ill be the new sergeant. Tohney runs back to his men but falls and hits his head. CUT TO: EXT. wooDLAND - mINUTES LATER. Tohney has only been unconscious for a few minutes but as he awakes screams can be heard not far from his position. He gets up, checks his head wound and runs back to his men. When he gets there a look of shock hits his face. All around him lie the dying men who have been bitten/killed by zombies. Tohney picks up a large plank of wood and smacks a zombie straight in the head, knocking it clean off. He looks around... ToHNEY HELLO!!! IS ANYBODY THERE?? This, however only attracts more zombies to him. Voice 1 (on Radio) Sergeant Tohney we are by the bay, we gonna go back!! Without second thought Tohney runs back to the Sea Snake. When he gets there a group of around 20 of his soldiers are on their knees with there hands on their heads. Banagner and around 40 men, who are all armed, are around them, holding them at gunpoint. 0002000006410000B61E63B,BANAGNER Sergeant Tohney I presume? Tohney nods. BANAGNER Join them. Tohney joins his fellow men. TOHNEY Do you know how many of those things are out there? Making their way here? BANAGNER Me and my men are more than aware of the threat, having been trapped on this bay for months after being left here for dead by you pricks! Now you will come with us and we will negotiate your safe return with your superiors, come quietly and none of you will be hurt, make it hard for us and things will get... ugly. He takes a few seconds to compose himself then shoots once at Simon. The bullet comes straight through Simons head, killing him instantly. He drops to the floor twitching. REEVES Oops!! The guard nods and opens the gate, Reeves runs out and places a gun in Simons lifeless hand REEVES GET THE BOSS!!!!!!!! CUT TO: EXT. bROWNLEAF LODGE COURTYARD - moments later Reeves drags Simons body in from the gate area. Dumping his body in front of the now present boss. The Boss looks at Simons body then at Reeves. BOSS Explain! REEVES Ask Banagner, he was the one who was meant to kill him. He struck a deal with this one (kicking Simon). He betrayed us all. BOSS It was i who made the deal, we needed him as much as he needed us! Reeves Why didnt you tell me? BOSS Youre too temperamental to be let in on such matters. Now... hows the stock? Reeves All in order, but he came running at the camp firing this gun, i had no other choice. TOHNEY Thats a lie!! Tohney appears hobbling one his injured leg hands banded together TOHNEY Simon couldnt of fired that gun. He had no weapons training, he was only sent on a technicality. TOHNEY No. We still managed to get the supplies, we have more than enough to keep everyone out there eating for years and years. But now we need to deal...... MoCKTON What? TOHNEY You heard me, you want the supplies, time you paid for them? MOCKTON Motherfucker! TOHNEY Heres what I want. A boat, a big one fully equipped with guns, ammo and fuel. I want you to push it 200 yards from the fleet. My men will arrive and inspect the boat, if everythings ok, ill send the supplies over, if not, I burn the food and you guys can all rot!
