We HEAR the tender sounds of Beethovens Moonlight Sonata. As we make our way down the winding road we see the gentle blowing of fallen leaves harmoniously dancing in the moonlight. Title cards over image. WELCOME TO HOLLYWOOD narrator (V.O.) Fall always was my favorite time of year. The changing of colors, the brisk night air. I could drive for hours admiring the world around me. Look at all the beauty. I will always remember this particular fall ... this being my last. cUT TO: EXT. Walmart - Late Evening Bright florescent lights of the superstore illuminate the parking lot. Here we see a silhouette of a man standing directly in-front of the entrance. It is OEDIPUS RILEY, early thirties with dark hair and soft brown eyes. His posture quickly lets us know he is unsure of himself. As he stands next to the entrance he reaches in his coat pocket and takes out a pair of GLASSES. He puts them on to check his wristwatch. The time reads 12:22. A listing of store hours on the sliding entrance door informs us he has arrived 22 minutes after closing. cUT TO: INT. 24 hour CONVENIENCE store - Early morning The only two people in the store are Oedipus and the graveyard shift employee. A large red headed woman wearing too much makeup, and a name tag that says SUE. sue That all handsome? Oedipus gives the jolly employee a blank expression sue (CONTD) Sominex. One, two, three, four, five, six boxes. Two boxes of Tylenol PM as well. Somebody having beddy-bye problems? Oedipus (uninterested) A pack of menthols too. Sue $32.00 even ... oh and need to see some ID for the smokes hun. 0002000009F0000006929EA,He takes his ID out of his wallet and hands it over to the employee. He places his ID back in his wallet then leaves money on the counter while taking his bag. OEDIPUS No. Its not. No, Im not. Forty on the counter ... keep the change. Int. The time now reads 1:30. nARRATOR (V.O.) Reduced to popping over the counter sleeping pills. Oedipus then rummages through the shopping bag and pulls out the pack of cigarettes. He gives the smokes a once over then places them in his console where there are a few unopened packs already in there. NARRATOR (CONTD) (V.O.) That makes ... umm ... six packs I believe. Sad part is that I dont even smoke. Well, like they say there is a first time for everything. Look at me ... what a mess. Insomnia, depression, a once promising career down the shithole. All this because of one woman. He pops four SOMINEX pills. nARRATOR (CONTD) (v.O.) What a woman! cUT TO: Int. OEDIPUSS BEDROOM - eARLY MORNING The starting of sunlight outside tells us that our friend Oedipus has gone through another night without a wink of sleep. Oedipus sits in-front of a PC monitor staring at the bright screen ahead listening to Mozarts REQUIEM AETERNAM After a minute or so he turns his attention to an ALARM CLOCK which is placed on a NIGHT-STAND near by. The time reads 6:40. We turn our attention to MAGAZINES near the alarm clock. They appear to be entertainment trade magazines. One magazine has a picture of OEDIPUS on the cover with the caption The next Orson Welles. Other magazines have a picture of OEDIPUS and an unidentified female on their covers with the captions The great Hollywood sex scandal, and Oedipuss complex situation. These appear to be more tabloid type magazines. Oedipus realizes that he is not alone as he sees the image of a person reflecting from his monitor. The stranger has gone undetected until now. The music that was playing a minute ago ends. The only SOUND that can be heard now is that of a COCKING GUN. 00020000066E0000107C668,nARRATOR (V.O.) ... and that is the story of me. cUT TO: title: 2 years earlier EXT. Here we see him typing away on his keyboard unaware of the commotion being caused by the presence of the companys CEO. The cubicle next to him is occupied by GREG. He is young and ambitious, but his over eagerness appears to wear down his fellow co-workers. Greg Looks like old man Winston is making his weekly rounds. Think I should introduce myself to him? OEDIPUS (uninterested) I dunno. Whatever you feel like doing. Do it ... dont do it. Think he even knows your an employee of his? Greg ponders that question for a moment. OEDIPUS (CONTD) Besides, what can he possibly say back to you? Oh yes ... Greg, I remember you from our summer company picnic. Hows the misses? Mr. Winston is only the third CEO of CYTHEREON MEDIA PRODUCTIONS. His predecessors before him were his late father and grandfather. Although Donovan Winston III is a smart and charming business man he never truly knew what it was like to work hard for what he has. Mr. Winston is sitting at his desk looking over a few documents. He notices Oedipus standing at the door awaiting further instruction. MR. WINSTON Ah, Ed ... glad to see you got in touch with my assistant last week. Come in - please join me. He shyly WALKS into the office amazed just how far it extends. MR. WINSTON (CONTD) Tell me Ed, what do you know about our company? This catches Oedipus a little off-guard. He tries to play off the answer as best he could. OEDIPUS Hmph, I know you are the third CEO of the company and that your grandfather Donovan Winston I founded the company in the late 1920s. Mr. Winston is clearly impressed with what he is hearing so far. MR. WINSTON Keep going. OEDIPUS ... and that this was once the most prominent company in Hollywood during the golden age of movies. He then walks back to his desk to set it down and smiles. MR. WINSTON You have nothing to worry about. Your job is safe. Infact, after this meeting it could be great. OEDIPUS (confused) Huh? How is that? MR. WINSTON As I was saying ... our company is not doing so well lately. All media companies took a hit after 2001. We need to regroup and take this piss poor excuse for a studio back to the promiseland. I mean have you seen the crap that is spewed out onto our televisions and theatre screens each year? OEDIPUS (not sure how to answer) I ... I dont really watch alot. Cutting him off so that he can continue his tangent MR. WINSTON Dont mind that kid, you arent missing much. Trust me ... I know. OEDIPUS Im sorry to be blunt sir, but what exactly are you getting at? How do I fit in with all of this? Mr. Winston takes another sip of his spritzer. MR. WINSTON (slyly smiling) Ah ... alas the point! He walks over to a large OVER-SIZED window. From here he is able to look out and admire the New York City SKYLINE as best he could. He continues talking to Oedipus but keeps his back turned towards him. mR. WINSTON (CONTD) (getting worked up) We need something bold Kid. Something that is original and different. Something along the lines of ... a gimmick! 0002000006530000361E64D,oEDIPUS (convinced his boss lost his mind) What did you have in mind sir? MR. WINSTON Anybody ever tell you that you have a resemblance to all those old time sliver screen legends? He tries to answer but is cut off. mR. WINSTON (CONTD) Bogart! ... Brando! ... Gable! They all had the It factor kid, and I see the same look in you. But see - looks arent going to be enough. We need you to be more than a look. We need you the play the part. oEDIPUS (trying to follow along ) And what part is that? Smiling that the right question was finally asked. MR. WINSTON Actor ... Screenwriter. Hell both. I can see the trades now ... Unknown actor/screenwriter takes Hollywood by Storm. Oedipus Riley - diamond in the rough discovered by own employer ... Donovan Winston III. OEDIPUS How am I going to convince millions of people that I can act and write? MR. WINSTON (with a serious tone) Leave that to me. cUT TO: INT. OEDIPUSS BEDROOM - LATE EVENING Oedipus is laying on his bed motionless. The sounds of Beethovens Ninth Symphony play in the background. As he listens to the sounds of a comforting old friend he ponders Mr. Winstons proposal from earlier. He knows this could be his one chance to be somebody. He closes his eyes for a moment then reopens them. Something is different. The ceiling is now replaced by an OCEAN OF WATER. It is a breathtaking sight to say the least. The water appears to be getting closer and closer until he can almost touch it. Just as his fingertips reach the WET surface the ALARM CLOCK CLANKS. The fantasy is over, Oedipus shuts off the blaring alarm and begins a new day. 00020000062300003C6B61D,cUT TO: Int. bathroom - MOMENTS LATER We watch as Oedipus goes through his daily routine in the shower. Nobody ever told him life would be like this. cUT TO: int. ofFICE CUBICLE - AFTERNOON Oedipus returns from lunch to find a beautiful pair of legs hanging outside his cubicle station. Hes certain they dont belong to GREG. As he approaches his cubicle he sees the owner of the legs. DELILAH GRECO - late twenties, with long straight dark hair, green eyes, and a body to dye for. Oedipus never imagined such a wonderful creature in his presence. oEDIPUS (shyly) Ah ... Im sorry, do I know you? Clearly enjoying the confused look on his face she does a once over then warmly smiles. DELILAH I can see the resemblance now. At first I thought Don was losing it when he told me about you. OEDIPUS (not sure what she is talking about) Don? DELILAH Don ... Donovan ... Donovan Winston III. Cmon, lets go get down to business. cUT TO: eXT. courtyard bistro restaurant - AFTERNOON This is clearly the type of place one would expect the CEO of a major motion picture studio to dine. Cafe style tables with over-sized umbrellas provide a cozy eating atmosphere. There are beautiful fountains surrounding the area giving it a truly posh look. We close in on Oedipus, Delilah, and Mr. Winston sitting at a table. They are all eating and drinking. Although all three of them are speaking to one another there appears to be an air of secrecy involved. mR. WINSTON Its never been done ... Takes a sip of his wine. mR. WINSTON (CONTD) ... atleast not that I know of. In-between bites Oedipus tries to calculate how much risk is involved with Mr. Winstons proposal. oEDIPUS What if it backfires? MR. WINSTON (offended) Backfire? Its full proof. Takes a bite out of his veal. mR. WINSTON (CONTD) 0002000006740000489A66E,You have to try the veal. DELILAH You still have to act. We cant fake that. This is not like singing where we can have you lip sync. I mean you can learn to act ... right? Oedipus is now convinced that both Mr. Winston and his wife are completely mad. oEDIPUS I suppose. I mean I will try. Its not like Ill be winning an Oscar or anything. Chuckling Mr. Winston corrects him. mR. WINSTON Actually kid its alot like that. He resumes slowly cutting his veal then takes another bite, savoring each morsel. mR. WINSTON (CONTD) When this is all over we will have to make room on our mantles ... if you follow me. Delilah Im not concerned about the acting. Its the screen-writing. (talking to Oedipus directly) Im guessing you never wrote a screenplay before. Have you? oEDIPUS (knowing the entire situation is a bad idea) No. Listen, I am really honored that you chose me to help the company, but Im a ... Its just that you have the wrong person in mind for the job. Im just a button pusher from the third floor. mR. WINSTON (refusing to listen to reason) With that boy next door look, and the PR machine that is my wife we cant lose. Oedipus sees that this is a losing battle as his boss already made up his mind. delilah (sincerely) Is this what you really wanted to life? She now places her hand on Oedipuss hand. delilah (CONTD) Have nothing ... do nothing ... be nothing. Arent you tired of watching the parade go by? Dont you ever want to be in the parade itself for a change? This is opportunity knocking at your doorstep. You can continue to be a button pusher for the rest of your life, or you can live the American dream. 00020000065A00004F08654,With that thought Oedipus finally smiles. They are quickly greeted by friendly BELLHOPS. Delilah wastes no time letting them know exactly what she wants. delilah Take these three bags to room 213, and those two bags to room 211. It is easy to see that she is very good at giving orders, and always knows what she wants. delilah (CONTD) (turning her attention to Oedipus) Take this card. Remember room 211. She hands the electronic key card over to him. 00020000064B00005B96645,delilah (CONTD) Meet me in the lounge in exactly thirty minutes. Before he could answer her she is gone. cUT TO: iNT. oedipuss hotel room - lATER We see Oedipus looking at his reflection in the closet mirror. He keeps staring at it waiting for the person on the other side to say something back to him but it never does. cUT TO: inT. hotel lounge - eVENING Oedipus makes his way to the lounge by following the sounds of music that are being played. Here he sees a band playing eighties music. He is able to recognize a few of the songs being played but not many. He finally sees what he is looking for. Sitting at a table in the corner of the room sipping on her glass of wine ... as stunning as ever. delilah You cleaned up nicely. Oedipus begins to feel his cheeks blushen with embarrassment. OEDIPUS Wow. I never saw a black dress look so good. delilah How so? OeDIPUS Well you look grea ... I mean it looks great. Delilah is clearly enjoying watching Oedipus stumble for words. delilah As do I? Isnt that what you were going to say? Before he could answer he is fortunately saved by the waitress. WAITRESS Would you like the same as the misses sir? Delilah answers for him. delilah Yes. He would like the same as the misses dear. Also, when you see our glasses close to empty please bring another. I dont think our young friend here knows what it is like to be three shades to the wind. WAITRESS Yes mam. The waitress jots something quickly on her notepad and walks away. OeDIPUS Three shades to the wind? delilah (laughing at his innocence) Smashed ... drunk ... mmm ... shitfaced. dISSOLVE TO: 0002000005F0000061DB5EA,Int. HOTEL LOUNGE - LATER Time passes and people are seen dancing. Others are sitting at tables laughing and having a good time. Oedipus and Delilah are still sitting at their table which now has an empty bottle of red wine and another half filled. The band begins to play Im all out of love by Air Supply. delilah I love this song. She takes a sip of wine and begins singing along to the lyrics. By now she is pretty tipsy. delilah (CONTD) Im all out of love without you beside me ... OeDIPUS (amused by how badly the lyrics are being butchered) Are those even the right lyrics? delilah You serious? Im a child of the eighties. Hurry up and dance with me before its over. The tipsy pair finally get up from their seats. They each take one last sip of wine then make their way over to the dancefloor. The music fades away softly and slowly. Oedipus and Delilah continue to dance not aware that they are eventually the only two people left in the lounge besides the hotel workers. cUT TO: INT. OEDIPUSS HOTEL ROOM - MORNING Oedipus is laying on top of the sheets of his bed still wearing the clothes from the night before. After a few minutes of quiet there is a loud KNOCKING on the door. Each rap on the door is like a jackhammer getting louder and louder inside his head. oEDIPUS Go Away! The KNOCKING continues. oEDIPUS (CONTD) Away! ... go away! DELILAH (O.S.) Ed, its me. Cmon were going to be late. Open up. Finally mustering up enough strength to get up and walk over to the door he opens it. 0002000006B0000067C56AA,DELILAH (CONTD) Bout time! Oedipus still groggy from waking up tries to make sense of what Delilah is talking about. oEDIPUS Time for what? I dont even remember how I got back to my room last night. delilah We have to be at the studio this afternoon. Noon to be precise. Im introducing you to a few suits. (beat) Oh, and to answer your question I slipped a twenty to a bus boy last night to bring you safely back to your room. She takes a good look at Oedipus then chuckles to herself seeing how grungy he looks right now. DELILAH (CONTD) Ed ... one more thing. oEDIPUS Whats that? DELILAH Take a shower. You stink! She gives him a playful smile and leaves the room. Oedipus can still hear her in the hallway. DELILAH (CONTD) (O.S.) Be in the lobby by eleven oclock handsome. cUT TO: INT. SHOWER - dAY Oedipus is in the shower following his daily routine. Facial wash, soap, then shampoo. So systematic he could do it with his eyes closed. After washing his hair he closes his eyes and rests his head against the shower stall wall. Perhaps preparing himself for the day ahead ... perhaps reliving last night. cUT TO: iNT. hotel lobby - DAY The lobby is huge and filled with tons of people. One can easily forget that this is a hotel. Bell-hops are running back and forth, and business men are seen carrying a laptop bag in one hand and a cell phone in the other. The mass of humanity begins to dwindle as we close in on Oedipus standing at the far end of the lobby. The crowd begins to part infront of him as if it were the red sea and Oedipus was Moses himself. At the opposite end of the lobby we see Delilah waving so that she can be spotted. This allows for Oedipus to make his way over to her. 00020000091B00006E6F915,Delilah Looking sharp Ed. The suits will love it. Oedipus is wearing a white dress shirt with a gray tie and matching slacks. He doesnt know if Delilah is serious, or if he should go back to his room and change. oEDIPUS Should I change? Delilah (laughing at his question) No hun, its fine. Cmon we have to go. cUT TO: iNT. cAR - mOMENTS LATER Oedipuss POV - We see the beauty and glamour of California as Oedipus looks out the window of the limo that is driving him and Delilah to Cythereon Studios main lot. This is all new and exciting to Oedipus as he has only lived on the east coast his entire life. The streets are alive with crowds of people shopping and tour busses passing by. As we continue travelling we notice a billboard for a top brand makeup company with a familiar face as the spokesperson. It is Delilah. oEDIPUS Youre on billboards? I mean thats you right? Delilah That was a long time ago. Wish theyd take it down by now. Listen, nevermind that. Were almost there. cUT TO: eXT. cythereon studios - aFTERNOON A typical studio lot complete with sound stages and actors walking around in costume. Delilah and Oedipus pull up to the studio gates. cUT TO: iNT. cAR - mOMENTS LATER Delilah Remember to follow my lead. The suits love big ideas, so play it cool and theyll love you. They are the gatekeepers to you getting on stage. oEDIPUS How am I going to impress these people? Delilah Leave that to me. cUT TO: iNT. cythereon studios main office - mOMENTS LATER Pictures of old time movie stars glamourize the walls in the main office. A receptionist sits at her desk playing solitare on her computer. The phones are quiet. Delilah and Oedipus walk in and take a seat on a big BLACK leather couch. Infront of the couch is a table with entertainment trade magazines placed on it. Entertainment weekly, Variety, and Hollywood Reporter are just some of the magazines that are spotted on the table. On the cover of Entertainment Weekly there is a picture of a young blonde female with layered shoulder length hair and dark blue eyes. Her skin looks soft and bronze. She can be no older than twenty-five. Next to her picture is the caption: Julie Madison ... Taking Hollywood by storm Oedipus notices the magazine, but before he could inspect it further there is a BUZZ sound at the receptionists desk. 00020000065B00007784655,Receptionist Ms. Greco. Mr. Riley. You may go into the conference room now. Third floor on your right. Delilah Thank you. Delilah and Oedipus stand up and walk through the door next to the receptionist. This leads them into the hallway which much like the main office lobby is covered with pictures of stars and awards on the walls. Delilah leads the way until they make it to the third room on the right. The conference room. cUT TO: iNT. conference room - mOMENTS LATER There is a large oval shaped table in the room and towards the back of the room is a water cooler. Next to the entrance of the room is a tray cart with assorted donuts and coffee. Sitting down at the table are two older businessmen. Both men are dressed in suits, and both have gray hair with flushed cheeks. The thinner man is Gerald Stone who has been with the company for over thirty years. The heavier set man to his right is William McNamara who is going on twenty-two years with the company. The sight of Delilah and Oedipus brings a smile to their faces. mr. Stone Delilah, glad to see you can make it. Delilah goes over to both Mr. Stone and Mr. McNamara to give them a hug and a kiss on the cheek. She has a special knack for handling people. Delilah I wouldnt miss this for the world Gerald. mr. mcnamara And who do we have hiding by the door? Oedipus still nervous and tense about the meeting slowly walks in. Delilah Mr. Stone, Mr. McNamara let me introduce you to Oedipus Riley. Ed, for short. Oedipus shakes both Mr. Stone and Mr. McNamaras hand. mR. MCNAMARA Oedipus? ... Greek? oEDIPUS No sir. Mom just had an odd sense of humor. 0002000006D100007DD96CB,mR. STONE Let me guess. Moms name is Venus and dads is Homer? Oedipus takes a sigh as he is certain he heard that joke before. oEDIPUS Wish that were the case, but looks like Im the lucky one instead. mR. sTONE Donovan was telling me earlier that he discovered Ed. Mind if I call you Ed? Oedipus nods for approval. mR. STONE (CONTD) Right. Well like I was saying he said that Ed actually worked for the company in the Manhattan office. I guess my question is ... what did you do Ed to be discovered? oEDIPUS Well, I ... I guess it would be when ... Sensing hesitation Delilah comes to his rescue. Delilah I have to be honest Gerald, Don didnt discover Ed. It was me. Don just likes to take the credit for this one. She walks over to the tray cart and pours herself a cup of coffee. She takes a sip then continues. Delilah (CONTD) Well I guess it all started when we hit rock bottom last quarter. We knew that new blood was the answer. Somebody in the office tipped me off about Ed. Ed may seem quiet and shy, but he holds a major in dramatic theatre and a minor in screen-writing. mR. MCNAMARA Have you seen any of his work? Delilah I watched a community play that Ed starred in. The kid can act. Plus, he is currently working on a screenplay about a lost love. Truly beautiful. mR. STONE Delilah, will you fully vouch for him? We give you the green light yours and Dons asses are on the line. Shareholders will not take another big hit without demanding some changes. Delilah thinks about it then smiles to the suits. Delilah Have I ever let you down? cUT TO: iNT. car - lATER Oedipus and Delilah are riding back to the hotel. Both are quiet as the driver takes them through town until Oedipus realizes what he got himself into. 000200000836000084A4830,oEDIPUS Okay, so what the hell happened back there? They didnt even talk to me and I get a screen test tomorrow for a part in a movie! Delilah Welcome to Hollywood kid. oEDIPUS I mean all that bullshit you made up about school and writing ... and degrees. They didnt even ask for proof. Like a copy of my previous work or anything of the sort. Delilah Look, its like this ... oeDIPUS I mean I have a bachelors degree in Communications from a community college. I hardly think that qualifies. Delilah Ughh ... Ed, listen to me carefully. Think of it like a credit card company. You are getting this credit to do what you like, but if you make the wrong choices you have to pay it all back with a higher interest. Follow? Oedipus thinks about it for a minute. oeDIPUS No, not really. He then looks out the window of the car seeing all of the average people shopping and walking around. He knows his life is going to change. cUT TO: iNT. hotel hallway - eVENING Oedipus and Delilah stand in the hallway where their rooms connect. He wants to thank her but is not sure if he should. Delilah This is my stop. Im still beat from last night. She places her right index finger on her lips then moves it away to place it on Oedipuss cheek. Delilah (CONTD) Night Ed. cUT TO: INT. oEDIPUSS HOTEL ROOM - eVENING We see Oedipus staring out the window admiring the view outside. We then focus on a stack of cds sitting on the window sill. Oedipus picks up the cds and looks them over. Beethoven, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky are among some in the stack. Oedipus picks the Mozart cd and places it in a cd player that is next to his bed. After pressing play he lays down on his bed. Serenade in G Major k. 525 Eine Kleine Nachtmusik plays in the background. Oedipus closes his eyes and after a minute or so reopens them. Mozart continues to play but something is different. The ceiling is now a body of crystal blue water. Much like what he had seen in his own bedroom a few nights prior. Although he is intrigued by the water he decides not to try and touch it this time, and simply closes his eyes. 00020000068500008CD467F,cUT TO: inT. Delilahs hotel room - eVENING We see Delilah sitting on an oversized window sill in the room looking outside. Wearing nothing more than a white tank top with matching cotton panties she is getting ready for bed. After looking outside for a few more seconds she goes over to a large mirror that is in her room. She places her hand over her stomach and gently rubs it. Her hand now lifts up her shirt to expose her belly. Here we can see a visible scar. She runs her fingers over the scar. cUT TO: iNT. cYTHEREON STUDIOS MAIN OFFICE - dAY Oedipus and Delilah are greeted by both Mr. Stone and Mr. McNamara. mR. STONE Morning. Delilah Whos he testing with? mR. MCNAMARA Dont worry. Hes gonna love this. Oedipus and Delilah follow the two suits into a room where there is a crowd of people waiting. Blended into the crowd is a casting director, a few production assistants, and a cameraman. In the far corner there is an incredible blonde sitting down. There is no mistaking that she is the same person Oedipus saw on the magazine cover yesterday. JULIE MADISON. Julie takes a sip of water from a bottle as she eyes up Oedipus. Julie This him? mR. STONE Ed and Delilah, I would like to introduce you to Ms. Julie Madison. Julie, this is Oedipus Riley. Hes reading with you today. jULIE (slyly smiling) Oedipus. Hmm ... sounds kinda sexy. mR. STONE Go easy on him Jules. Dont scare him away just yet. We need to see what the kid is made of first. A production assistant hands Oedipus a script for a cold read with Julie. Delilah goes over to him to clarify what is happening. She speaks to him in a low voice so only he can hear what she is saying. 00020000068800009353682,Delilah They are having you do what is called a cold read. (beat) Means no time to rehearse it. They are going to tape this to see how you look on camera with her. Doesnt usually work like this for a first audition but Don insisted. Someone in the background asks for the room to get quiet. Delilah (CONTD) (winking at him) Good luck! An assistant director places Oedipus on the mark once everybody quiets down. He opens the script to try and get a feel for it. Somebody else in the background now YELLS out PAGE 14. casting director (O.S.) Everybody set? Oedipus looks at the page but it as foreign to him as Chinese. He then looks up to see Julie waiting impatiently for him. cASTING DIRECTOR (CONTD) (O.S.) This scene takes place when Julies character LINDSAY tries to seduce the young attorney that had her children taken away. Youre reading the part of JEFFERSON the attorney. Oedipus looks over the script again and realizes that half-way through the scene Julie kisses him. Hes not sure if he is getting warm from his cheeks blushing or from the lack of air in the stuffy room. With one deep breath he begins the scene. oEDIPUS (reading the scene) I should have known youd come back Lindsay. You know I cant help you. jULIE (reading from her part of the script) Cant help? Or ... dont want to? Looking at his lines and starting to feel more comfortable he continues. oEDIPUS (continuing the scene) Both. Its no secret that you are unfit to take care of your child. jULIE (impressed so far, she continues reading) You dont know what it is like to be alone. To have the one thing you loved more than anything else in your life taken away from you. 000200000644000099D563E,Oedipus stops for a moment. Julies last line struck a nerve. The scene now calls for Julies character Lindsay to lean in and kiss Oedipuss character Jefferson on the lips. Oedipus watches as Julies lips approach his and then closes his eyes. As soon as her lips touch his he immediately opens his eyes, but no longer sees her or anybody else for that matter in the room. All he can now see is the room filling up with water, but it is working its way from the ceiling down. He closes his eyes again and this time when he reopens them the room is back to normal. Julies lips no longer pressing against his. caSTING DIRECTOR Thatll do. Think we got what we needed. Oedipus still not sure if this is really happening, or if he is dreaming takes a look towards the back of the room. He sees Delilah who is warmly smiling back at him. cUT TO: iNT. restaurant - eVENING Oedipus and Delilah are enjoying dinner at a posh Italian restaurant called SICILIANA. There are a few plates on the table with such meals as shrimp primavera, manicotti, and shell fish. Along with the many dishes of food there are bottles of wine and champagne. Both appear to be in a celebratory mood. Delilah So, how does it feel? She pours Oedipus and herself more champagne then continues her sentence. Delilah (CONTD) I mean to actually be casted in a movie on your first try. oEDIPUS Dont really know. Not sure its real. Delilah (throwing a piece of bread at him) Not Real! Ed, youre living proof of the American dream. To be a somebody in this world. The world is full of average people ... be more than average! 0002000006600000A01365A,Oedipus nods as he pours more champagne for himself. Delilah (CONTD) Isnt this your dream? Before he can answer there is a sudden commotion in the restaurant as Julie Madison walks in with her entourage of people. People can not help but be drawn into her and her star power. She signs a few autographs and even teases a table of businessmen eating their dinner. Before anybody in the room knew it she had them all eating out of the palm of her hand. Delilah observes what is going on then takes a sip of her champagne and turns back to Oedipus. Delilah (CONTD) Tell me ... what was it like to kiss blonde in a bottle anyway? Oedipus thinks about the question and after mulling it over for a few seconds just gives her a smile. cUT TO: iNT. car - late EVENING Oedipus and Delilah are riding back to the hotel. The driver looks in his rear view mirror to see both slouched down on the seat. Delilah rests her head on Oedipuss shoulder. cUT TO: iNT. hOTEL HALLWAY - lATER Oedipus and Delilah are standing infront of their rooms. Both are tried and tipsy but dont want to end the evening. Delilah looks at him with warm comforting eyes. oeDIPUS (building up some confidence) Would, well I mean if you arent too tired ... would you like to come in? Delilah Love to. cUT TO: iNT. oEDIPUSS HOTEL ROOM - mOmENTS LATER Both Oedipus and Delilah are laying on the bed staring up at the ceiling. Perhaps they are doing their own personal reflections. oEDIPUS To be somebody. To not go through life with nothing to show for it. Delilah (a little confused) Huh? oeDIPUS Your question from before in the restaurant. Whats my dream? 0002000006390000A66D633,Delilah Oh. Alright, so thats your dream? To be somebody. oeDIPUS Yes and no. Its like this ... everybody wants to leave their mark in this world. Sometimes things happen for reasons we cant explain. Both good and bad. Delilah Im losing you. oedIPUS Is it fair that I get to live out what most people dream about? No. Its not fair to the hundreds of thousands of people who act or want to act that are never heard of. What makes me so special? Ill tell you. Right place ... right time. (beat) If I dont catch Donovans eye back home Im still living in suburban New Jersey, sitting in traffic and going to my shitty job each day. Delilah sighs as she processes everything Oedipus just told her. Delilah Then shut up and make the most of this opportunity. Take the damn ball and run with it. Both of them lay quietly on the bed for a few more moments thinking of what to say next. Delilah notices the stack of cds next to the bed. Delilah (CONTD) Tchaikovsky, Mozart, and Beethoven. You dont strike me as the classical type. Oedipus closes his eyes before answering. OedIPUS They belonged to AUTUMN ... my fiance. Opening his eyes he walks over to the closet and leans his head against the door. oeDIPUS (CONTD) Im not originally from New Jersey you know. The house I live in was left to me by my family. Im actually from Southwest Florida. Its where I grew up and met her. We used to love going to the beach. Whether it was to swim or to just get on a boat and sail all day. She really loved the beach. Oedipus stops for a moment to collect his thoughts. oeDIPUS (CONTD) 0002000006680000ACA0662,(tears now beginning to swell up in his eyes) You see the thing about drowning is that you are working against borrowed time. I stood there frozen with fear and watched the one person I loved more than anything or anybody else in this world take her last breaths infront of my very own eyes. I had the power to save her, but I did nothing! Shocked by his confession Delilah walks over to him and takes his hand. Delilah Oh Ed, Im ... Im so ... so sorry. She then takes his hand that she is holding and places it by her stomach. She then lifts her shirt to reveal the scar on her body. Delilah (CONTD) Sometimes we lose the ones we love most even when we want them to be here no matter the cost. She puts her shirt down and walks over to the table to pour herself a glass of water. Delilah (CONTD) Her name was Amber-Lynn. Oedipus walks over to her to comfort her. He holds her hand again. oeDIPUS Thats why you gave up acting? She nods as tears roll down her cheeks. Oedipus takes a tissue from a box on the table and begins wiping her tears away. He then lifts her chin up to look at her. He has never seen anyone this beautiful. He doesnt say anything to her and just looks into her eyes. Oedipus wants to kiss her but knows its wrong. Just as he is about to speak Delilah leans in and kisses him. He can still feel the warmth of her tears running down her face. The two of them begin kissing more passionately, and eventually make their way over to the bed. Once on the bed Delilah lays on top of Oedipus. She stops kissing him to smile and enjoy the moment. She runs her fingers over his lips then softly kisses him again. 00020000065C0000B302656,cUT TO: iNT. oeDIPUSS hOtEL ROOM - mORNING Sunlight begins to make its way through the window blinds which causes Oedipus to wake up. C.U. on note: Went back to New York. Principal photography begins in two weeks. Give em hell. - me Oedipus gets out of bed and walks over to his closet. He opens it to look in the mirror. He has adapted to the hectic Hollywood lifestyle like a fish to water. A production assistant runs across the set looking for the films star Julie Madison. She has already missed call time. Production assistant (hastily) Has anybody seen Ms. Madison? NATE COOKSON who is the director of the film goes over to the young production assistant and informs him to forget about the missing star. Just as the director finishes speaking to the P.A. Julie walks onto the set. However, she is visibly stoned. Nate is a veteran director who has no patience for top-tier celebrity antics. He mumbles something to himself once he sees Julies condition. 0002000006400000B95863A,Nate Great. Another fucking junkie. Julie walks around carefree. She waves and smiles at everybody on the set. jULIE Your star is here! natE Whenever youre ready Ms. Madison. And for Christs sake will somebody please get her a downer. jULIE (ignoring what he is saying as if in her own world) Did you know that when Marilyn Monroe had her period it was in her contract that she didnt have to work. She thinks about it for a minute and begins to laugh. jULIE (CONTD) I kinda like that idea. nate (annoyed) I dont have time for this diva bullshit. Somebody get her off my set. juLIE Your set? ... Maybe I should call Don tomorrow. Ya know ... see if he could pull some strings. oeDIPUS No offense Jules, but I really dont want to know about this. He then gets up and starts to walk away. oeDIPUS (CONTD) Just wanted to see how youre feeling. Julie gets up and walks over to him. She does not want him to leave. juLIE How do you do it? oedIPUS (not sure what she is getting at) Excuse me? jULIE This! What you are doing right now. How do you go through life pretending to be so innocent. This town is a cespool. One day you are the toast of the town. The next you are lying in a gutter, your soul no longer yours. She starts running her hands all over Oedipuss chest. She presses her body close to his trying her best to seduce him. jULIE (CONTD) There has to be something you want. Something you desire bad enough to be just like the rest of us. With that thought Oedipus pulls away from her. oeDIPUS There is. Just not from you!
