WEEPING WILLOW - main road - early morning SUPER: 13 years later (1883) A bright, summer day. Near the LOCAL HOTEL a stagecoach(with a driver and shotgun rider) is ready to roll. Mr. and Mrs. Burnell - inside the coach, near the window - talk to Joshua (25, doesnt wear a gun) outside the coach. MR. BURNELL We should return one week from today in the early afternoon. MRS. BURNELL And please take the day off like we suggested. Its going to be hard work minding the store by yourself. COACH DRIVER Time to move out! Joshua backs away from the coach. I know my niece Rhonda is the rather proud, independent kind. No doubt she got most of it from her mom, God rest her soul. But she misses you, Joshua. JOSHUA Jake, nothings the same without her. Jocko pulls back his jacket - twin Colts are strapped across his waist. The crowd watches, breath held. The two gunmen stare at each other, ready to draw. A BOOM of thunder. THREE GUNSHOTS fired rapidly they sound as one. Jocko, guns still holstered, blood SPURTING from the bullet holes in his chest, flies backwards, STRIKES the poker table, TUMBLES to the ground. The crowd stares in disbelief. Disciple holsters his gun, strides next to Jockos body, kneels. He extracts a knife from his overcoat with his left hand, clutches Jocko by the hair with his right. He strides out of the saloon. EXT. plains Four riders, heads lowered against the rain and wind, GALLOP onwards into a NARROW GORGE. They slow down, pair off. Joshua and Slim are at the front. SHOOTS anywhere a SOUND is heard or a shadow moves. A shadowy figure YELPS. Falls. An arrow SINKS deep into Joshuas right arm. JOSHUA (CONTD) UHH. The rifle drops out of his hand.
