The Gunman: PART ONE Written by Jason Mickey Based on characters appearing in books published by DC Comics Copyright © 2013 ---------------------------------------------------------- INT. HOUSE-LIVING ROOM-NIGHT A lamp slowly falls to the ground and breaks. A man and woman aggressively argue with each other, but the man loses his temper and hits her. She falls to the ground and is cut by the broken lamp. INT. HOUSE-FLOYD'S ROOM-NIGHT A young Floyd(7) is in tears and being embraced in his brother, Edward's(15) arms. EDWARD It's okay, Floyd. It should be over soon. CUT TO: INT. BLACKGATE-FLOYD'S PRISON CELL-DAY Floyd(48) is woken up by his cell door opening. A guard walks in and tosses a box to him. GUARD Congrats, big guy. You successfully made it through a whole sentence in this shit-hole. Let's go. Floyd gets up and follows the guard. MOMENTS LATER Floyd walks out the prison gates and they close behind him. He is in deep thought. CUT TO: INT. BLACKGATE-VISTING BOOTH-FLASHBACK Floyd and his ex-wife, Susan, are talking. FLOYD Suzie, please. I completely understood the divorce but please don't take our daughter to that God-forsaken place. SUSAN You don't have the right to decide where we go. Besides, it can't be any worse than Gotham, the paradise for scum like you. Worry and sadness fill Floyd's eyes as he looks down at the table. FLOYD I understand. He hangs up. CUT TO: EXT. GATES OF BLACKGATE-DAY Floyd comes to his senses as a taxi comes his way. He waves and the taxi stops. He gets in the vehicle. TAXI DRIVER Where to? FLOYD Starling City, and make it fast. TAXI DRIVER Yes, sir. The taxi drives off. MOMENTS LATER As the taxi makes its destination, the driver tries to have a conversation with Floyd. TAXI DRIVER So. What's your business in Starling? Job? Love life? Family? FLOYD None of your damn business. TAXI DRIVER Okay, okay. Sorry, I was trying to have a conversation to speed the trip up. FLOYD Well, do me a favor and don't. It's a long drive, so please shut the hell up. The driver nods in approval. Floyd rests his head back and sleeps. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CUT TO: INT. HOUSE-LIVING ROOM-NIGHT-FLASHBACK Floyd and Edward walk into the room where their mother was abused. She is crying and picking glass out of her arm. The father has left. FLOYD Mommy, are you alright? MOTHER I'm fine baby, now go back to bed. FLOYD But- MOTHER Now. Floyd looks at Edward. EDWARD It's okay, Floyd. Just do what she says. He listens to Edward and goes to his bedroom. Edward walks over to his mother. MOTHER I need you to do something for me. CUT TO: Floyd awakes and sees the taxi has made it's way to Starling City. TAXI DRIVER Here we are. FLOYD Thanks. Floyd hands the driver money. FLOYD (CONT'D) Here's your pay. He gets out of the taxi, and it drives off. He briefly examines the city before him, and then heads into Starling. CUT TO: INT. HOUSE-FLOYD'S ROOM-NIGHT-FLASHBACK Edward walks into Floyd's room and checks on him. Sees that he's awake. EDWARD Hey, buddy. Why are you up? FLOYD Are you going to kill dad? EDWARD Don't worry, Floyd, I'm helping. He won't be able to hurt us anymore. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- CUT TO: INT. ZOE'S APARTMENT-DAY There is knocking at the door, and Zoe(17) is rushing to the door trying to put on her earrings. ZOE Just a sec. She makes it to the door, and opens it. Floyd, her father is on the other side. ZOE What the hell are you doing here? FLOYD I just came to visit. And to speak to your mother. She looks down to the ground. She is sad and disgusted. ZOE Well, you can't. She's dead. Floyd is shocked by the news. FLOYD What? ZOE Yeah. She died about two years ago. FLOYD What happened? ZOE She was sick, really sick. And where you, huh? You had to throw your life away in some shit-hole in Gotham! And then when she was sick, I was alone! I took care of her! FLOYD Zoe, listen- ZOE No, dad! You listen! I hate you for leaving us! And as far as I am concerned, I want you as far away from me as possible! Am I understood! FLOYD Yes, I understand. He walks away in shame. CUT TO: INT. GOTHAM-UNDERGROUND CRIME ORG.-SIONIS OFFICE Footsteps approach the door of ROMAN SIONIS' office. A man walks into the office dragging the taxi driver in, who has been ruffed up a bit. Roman is a rich mob boss in an all white, pin-striped suit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ROMAN So, mind telling me why we have this guy in my office. MAN This guy gave our friend a ride. ROMAN Ah. I see. Motions his hand to a chair. ROMAN (CONT'D) Sit. The man pushes the driver down in the chair. ROMAN Now, I see you know our friend Lawton. Where did you take him? TAXI DRIVER He wanted to go to Starling, so I took him there. But when I asked him why, he just blew me off. Other than that I can't help. Roman chuckles. He picks up a wooden bat. ROMAN I know where he's going. You and you(points to his men), follow Lawton until you see something, then contact me. As for our friend here, well, we can't leave any loose ends. TAXI DRIVER Wait, no! NO! Roman raises the bat and swings. Blood splatters on his suit. -------------------------------------------------------------- CUT TO: INT. GOTHAM-APARTMENT-FLASHBACK Floyd walks inside and closes the door behind him. A much younger Zoe(4)runs to him in joy. ZOE Daddy! FLOYD Hey! How's my favorite girl! He reaches down and picks her up, embracing her. Then Susan walks in with a smile. SUSAN Hey, baby. FLOYD Hey, Suzie. He walks toward Susan with Zoe still in his arms, and reaches in for a group hug. Floyd and Susan kiss. But in that moment, two GPD officers break in and aim their guns at Floyd. OFFICER #1 Raise your hands! Floyd hands Zoe to Susan. OFFICER #2 Raise them , NOW! Floyd raises his hands, and puts them behind his head. One of the officers slams him directly to the ground. Zoe struggles to free from Susan's arms, as they are both in tears. ZOE(scream) Daddy!!! The officer puts cuffs on Floyd and pulls him up to his feet. OFFICER #1 Mr. Lawton, your under arrest for murder. The officers escort him out the door. Floyd look back to he a final glimpse of his family. Outside, Floyd sees a vehicle in the distance, and the passenger watching is no other than Roman Sionis. END OF PART ONE -------------------------------------------- (c) 2013
