EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - DAY
Pimentel sits on a bench in the Neighborhood. Jimenez is
smoking a cigarette, talking with Pimentel and a few more
guys. We don't hear what they say. They seem very excited
about something.
PIMENTEL(V.O.)
Years ago, we had Church. That was
the only way of saying we had each
other. The Drudlords were head
breakers. They took over their
piece of the city...and the
country. Slowly stripped us of our
deserved land. Our Lives. They
didn't care who they stepped on.
EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - VARIOUS
The neighborhood. 1960's. It's where Pimentel begins. Liquor
stores with shamrocked signs. Bums Fishing through Garbage.
Catholic Pre-School kids playing in an asphalted schoolyard.
Next to the school, women hang wet clothes to dry. Three kids
whack a Pinata around. It breaks, the kids start fighting
over the candy.
PIMENTEL (V.O.)
Twenty years after a Druglord
killed some poor American girl,
none of us still could get a good
job. That's what the Gringos don't
realize. If I got one thing against
them it's this. Here, no one gives
respect and shit like that to you.
You have to take it. And there are
a lot of Gringos here.
PIMENTEL (V.O.)
Then they throw you in Jail. Two
years. Two years is enough time for
you to collect on the insurance
money, that the man who arrested
you, set up for you. And when you
walk, you party. You party till you
drop. Like "Shop until you Drop",
except there's an edgier concept
behind it.
INT. POLICE STATION
Pimentel and Jimenez are sitting in the Police Station.
Hernandez's office. Hernandez is a tough looking, Forty
Seven, dark haired, Police Chief. He's really calm.
HERNANDEZ
We can't conceal that you've been
in the Military. Jimenez too.
You'll be convicted of a crime.
We're thinking that a guilty plea
to assault might make sense, this
time. They will tell you that your
past Military experience drove you
to do this. There's not much they
can do. The Military protects it's
own. You already know this. Why am
i telling you this?
PIMENTEL
Given our nature. And our Cultural
Beliefs. Fucking Jotos, bring
Religion into this now.
HERNANDEZ
You know what they say about that.
I can do nothing. The goddamn
church as got everybody in it's
grasp. As soon as i try something,
they will pull out the book on us.
PIMENTEL
There's no way to Side step them?
HERNANDEZ
There are maybe two or three ways,
but if we're caught....
PIMENTEL
Yeah, but whoever controls the
Church, will have to give in to
Demands. Otherwise we wouldn't be
doing this now.
HERNANDEZ
I don't think Tapio and his
Subordinates will bow down to
anybody, but until that Happens,
this is the safest way we have.
You'll serve enough jail time to
convince anyone that it's no setup.
Then it's probation.
You know how it goes. You'll be out
in Two. Your check will come in the
mail. You start your Job the day
you're out.
Pimentel looks up with a glazed insolence. In one beat he is
not a scared Criminal but a smart criminal.
PIMENTEL
Every weekend...home. Sounds Good.
JIMENEZ
Perfect.
HERNANDEZ
Do it again. For me. This time we
do it right, we might never have to
do it again.
EXT. JAIL HOUSE OVERLOOK - NIGHT
Pimentel throws down his .45. Jimenez unloads his gun too.
The guards take them away.
INT. LUNCH COUNTER (TWO YEARS LATER) - DAY
Pimentel comes in. The shop is one that sells papers, snacks,
fountain drinks.
PIMENTEL
(leaning over cluttered
counter)
You got it?
STORE OWNER
Sure do. Little late that usual.
The store owner hands over the money. Hundred and Fifty
bucks. Pimentel never wants to threaten anybody if he doesn't
have to. His demeanor is gentle, philosophical. Like a Cop's
probing manner. He is a little psychologically unstable,
somewhat depressed, extremely violent, and quick to anger.
Anybody that messes with him, he will kill with immediate
Homicidal Aggression. Pimentel looks up. He is Twenty Seven,
but small for his age. Brutish. Pimentel eyes the Store
Owner's Daughter, sweeping the back part of the bar. Jimenez,
who comes in, takes a lighter. He lights a cigarette with the
lighter. Jimenez throws a look at the Daughters Butt, as
she's bent over.
JIMENEZ
Carmen's becoming a fine ass girl.
That shit need to be taken care of.
Never had a round piece of ass like
that before.
The Store Owner becomes uneasy. Pimentel turns to Jimenez
(about 26) staring at him. Jimenez reaches up above and
behind the counter and takes down some cigarettes. Pimentel
doesn't listen to Jimenez, as he puts a Six Pack of Coronas
on the Counter.
PIMENTEL
You get the stuff?
Jimenez nods. In front of Jimenez, Carmen has begun stacking
of Chips and Snacks. Jimenez Stares.
PIMENTEL
(To Store Owner)
Get mine too.
Jimenez flips through his wallet, removes some bills and
hands them to the Store Owner.
JIMENEZ
When are the other guys coming?
PIMENTEL
They'll be here any second.
The register rings. As they leave, Jimenez slaps the Girl on
the Butt. The Store Owner doesn't see it. The girl gives
Jimenez a sexy look. She mimics a Phone with her hand. Then
points to the Glass Display, where the store Number is
printed. Jimenez nods.
INT. HOLY PLACE
Smoky, spiritual with a large gleaming, golden cross. A
priest kneels before it -- deep in prayer. The glimmering
cross comes hangs there... but it's just a light-reflection
off the casing of a large Well. This is an old chapel.
And as the priest rubs his hands together with holy oil, we
see it's LUIS PIMENTEL and JOSE JIMENEZ -- carefully sitting
behind him, in front of a small golden table.
They are whispering.
PIMENTEL
(Off the Priests look)
What the fuck kind of place did you
bring us to.
JIMENEZ
Bellarmino's Wife said this guy's
the one to go to, if you want to
cleanse your spirit. And you need a
lot of it.
PIMENTEL
The only thing I need to cleanse is
what I'm sitting on.
The priest stops, turns his head in their direction slightly,
as to listen in. A silence descends on the chastised men. The
Priest goes back to work, then turns around.
PIMENTEL
Okay... I have a confession to
make, but you aren't gonna like
it....
PRIEST
I'm in a hurry, Pimentel. So you've
only got ten seconds to go through
your usual list of lies, empty
promises, and idiotic denials. Then
I'm coming over there --
PIMENTEL
If you're in such a God damn
Fucking hurry -- why are you
wasting your time with me? I got to
go back to plant fruit. You don't.
I got all the Fucking time in the
world. Fruit goes bad - shit - get
new ones. Same with a Fucking
Priest.
Pimentel topples the gold table and tears a leg from the top.
It's actually Wood. Brandishing it -- he stalks the startled
Priest, who has got a stick as a weapon.
PRIEST
The only Fruit I see is inside your
head. You are getting far worse,
Pimentel. You're Crazy. You need
professional help. Maria was...
PIMENTEL
Who do you call crazy. Chinga tu
Perra Madre, Cavron!
PRIEST
Now is the time to Cleanse your
Spirit. The Power of God is at your
Hand. Jesus welcomes you. You have
sinned, but he welcomes you.
He sprays holy water in Pimentel's Face. Pimentel wipes it
off.
PIMENTEL
What the fuck you talking about?
You and your Fucking Jesus.
PRIEST
You are ashamed of yourself. Jesus
invites you to his giving graces.
PIMENTEL
Lo único que puede invitar a mí, es
una cerveza. You tell him that.
Jimenez jumps in between them, holding them off each other.
JIMENEZ
Stop you....
PIMENTEL
Let him go and I'll make a new kind
of fruit out of him. Sell him then.
You will be rich.
JIMENEZ
Man what the hell...this is a
Priest. Come on meng. We're in a
church.
PIMENTEL
Yeah, a part time priest, who's
other job is at the hospital,
cleaning shit. We came to a fucking
cave here.
Pimentel jumps at the priest. Jimenez holds them apart.
PRIEST
It's true. You are ashamed of
yourself.
Pimentel catches a glimpse of the Large Cross. He crosses
himself two times.
PIMENTEL
Gracia a Dios. (To Priest) You Son
of a Pig. You didn't have to tell
Maria i did her daughter. She's
already Twenty Six.
The priest breaks free. He puts down the cross and Holy
water. Pimentel sits down, pulling Jimenez down too.
JIMENEZ
Shut up. Both of you.
PRIEST
(Calming down) Sorry Pimentel.
Standard Procedure for everybody
who comes here. You know that.
So....who You here for.
PIMENTEL
Bollivander! I heard he's hanging
around here. They tell me he
arrived from the US a few days Ago.
PRIEST
Bollivander? Yeah...he's down by
the Utility Places. He's got guys
with him. Be careful. They're
hiding out down there. The cops
sent a Negotiator, but you know
what happened to him.
PIMENTEL
Somebody must want him dead.
PRIEST
Fuck man. He was running money for
Martinez. Got caught up with Tapio,
then went into hiding. This is
Martinez and Tapio who want you to
take care of him. Collect all the
Money. But be extra careful.
PIMENTEL
What about Carlos Avila? He still
around here now?
PRIEST
Shit man, that fucking asshole's
been an informant from the
beginning.
PIMENTEL
That fuck screwed us over.
PRIEST
Man he's been into them Bank Notes.
He's been smuggling them in and out
of here. counterfeit's never had a
high price here, until now. He's
supposed to use some kind of new
ink. The Federals reported three
tons missing last week.
PIMENTEL
Fuck, how do you steal three tons
of that shit?
PRIEST
I been checking around. Seems that
fuck's got some mighty friends down
at the Federal Station. Noone knows
who they are. Came here last
Fucking week. Tried to buy some
Piedra. I checked te Notes out,
they were good. Yesterday, i'm
informed they are Counterfeit. That
fuck disappeared somewhere. Haven't
been able to find him. You better
find him before i do.
PIMENTEL
Know any of these cholos?
PRIEST
A couple of them. They're burned
out Meth users. Don't remember a
fucking thing man. Last week they
stiffed me because they couldn't
remember the price. I sent a couple
of my boys to remind them.
PIMENTEL
Alright. See you at the family
reunion.
PRIEST
We'll be there.
Pimentel stands. He crosses himself two times, fast, mutters
something, then leaves. Jimenez follows him.
EXT. UTILITY SHED
... Through a chain-link fence we see a handful of cholos
wandering around the shed. As Pimentel approaches the
fence...
PIMENTEL
... Hey, eses!
Homeboys scatter in all directions, some hop the chain link
fence, others scurry out a narrow gate behind the shed, as
Pimentel has drawn his .45 And started gunning down the
escaping cholos. Now out of nowhere a gangbanger lurches from
the shed, buttoning his sagging Pants and tripping over his
own feet, a naked girl in the shed, whimpering and raped lies
Shaking from Fear. He scrambles out the back gate and comes
up to Pimentel. Pimentel, guns him down, and enters the
compound Through a tear in the fence.
Bollivander is trying to escape over a fence. Pimentel takes
aim and shoots him in the lower back. Bollivander slumps to
the pavement from the ten foot fence.
BOLLIVANDER
Fuck! What the....
PIMENTEL
You made a mistake. Now you pay for
it.
BOLLIVANDER
I heard you were out. You Son of a
Bitch!
PIMENTEL
Romero called it! You stayed
behind, told them everything you
saw and everything that you heard.
Bollivander stares at him. Horror struck. Hateful.
PIMENTEL
Yeah. It's time, Chinga tu puta
Madre!
Pimentel blows Bollivander's head open on the pavement. A
handful of cholos skip over the other fence. Pimentel ignores
them.
INT. UTILITY SHED - MOMENTS LATER
As Pimentel pokes his head inside he discovers... Ana
Avendano, Fifteen... braless and panty less. She's shaking
from fear. She pulls a dark red sweat shirt on over her head.
Glances up at Pimentel. Masks her shame and humiliation with
the shirt.
PIMENTEL
Qué pasa aquí?
Pimentel crosses himself several times.
MICHOACAN, MEXICO
1966
"THE RISE"
EXT. LA HOLLA RANCH - MICHOACAN - DAY
It's a hot, dry and ragged day. Farmers are working in the
fields. Kids and Teenagers, among old people are picking
fruits and vegetables. Music comes out of big speakers,
perched on tall trees. A little kid cuts himself, turns
around and, even though we don't want to see it, pisses on
his cut and continues working.
EXT. LA HOLLA RANCH - WEST CORNFIELDS - DAY
The cornfields are flourishing with green corn. Men and Women
are picking the Corn on one Field, and Planting new Corn on
another. Among those planting the Corn is Pimentel, turning
brown from the constant gaze of the sun. He's slowly planting
Corn by Corn, next to him, the Tenty-Six year old Jimenez.
They are talking, as though they don't want to be heard by
anyone. They talk in broken English.
JIMENEZ
Mira! The guy said that all we need
to do is go there to the Warehouse,
get the Piedra and bring it back.
No strings attached. He will pay
good money, that we can go one day
to America and make a fortune.
PIMENTEL
And do what then? After the money
is gone. Wash Dishes? Be somebody's
Butler?
JIMENEZ
The money will never stop there. As
long as there is work, the money
will come in. Think about it!
Pimentel drops the shovel onto the Ground.
PIMENTEL
I don't care about the United
States. I can't go.
JIMENEZ
You mean the wife you married to
get the papers? You don't want to
see her again?
PIMENTEL
I couldn't stay. She's not my wife
anymore. She understood. We were
never married anyway. Fucking
immigration picked me up at her
front door.
JIMENEZ
This is good.
A man yells at him, Luis picks the shovel up again. He yells
back at the man.
PIMENTEL
How is this good?
JIMENEZ
We can go to US. We get jobs.
PIMENTEL
How is this good? I go and how am I
supposed to get a job, as an
immigrant.
JIMENEZ
While we working, we can go to
school, get education, then become
managers or something. And we get
Green Cards.
PIMENTEL
What, in them "Fast Food
Restaurantes" or something like
that?
JIMENEZ
Yeah. They always look for new
employees.
PIMENTEL
What the fuck you going to do? Mop
the Floors? Clean the can? Fuck no.
I can do better that that.
JIMENEZ
It's a Fucking start man, Come on!
PIMENTEL
Start or no Start. Those
Cocksuckers find out you doing good
on your position, they take
advantage of you. Never let you go.
JIMENEZ
It's how all the people there with
no education do it.
PIMENTEL
Fuck all those other people. I have
a dream, just like that guy. I
don't remember his name.
Pimentel cuts himself on the knife in his hand.
PIMENTEL
Chinga tu puta Madre! Fuck!
He throws it to the ground. He immediately licks his finger.
The man yells at Pimentel again. Angry, Pimentel throws a
piece of corn at him.
PIMENTEL
Callate! Hijo deun gran Putada
Madre!
JIMENEZ
Are you even listening?
PIMENTEL
(reluctantly)
Sure. How we going to stay?
JIMENEZ
What?
PIMENTEL
Over there. How we going to stay?
If we go there without Papers. We
can barely stay here. The Fucking
government is on our ass the whole
time. They want us to bend over and
take it in.
JIMENEZ
No. I don't know how we going to
stay. We got to figure something
out when we get there.
PIMENTEL
Never mind. You talk to Hernandez
about the work in the garage?
JIMENEZ
Yes. He said he will pay twice we
get here. So I told him no. Fucking
Rat. Wanted to screw us over.
Pimentel turns towards Jimenez, face full of Disbelief. He
struggles to contain his anger. He barely manages to do so.
PIMENTEL
You told him No?
JIMENEZ
I'm not going to sweep some floors
for that kind of money. I need at
least three times that.
PIMENTEL
What is your brain telling you? Do
you ever get that little voice in
your head that says don't do this
you Fucking idiot.
JIMENEZ
I wasn't talking for the both of
us. Only me. You do your own thing.
PIMENTEL
Do you know what kind of man he is?
He's one of the richest Sons of
Bitches in this State. He asked us,
you said no, now we both out of a
job. How Fucking stupid are you?
JIMENEZ
There's other guys like him here.
We can find other jobs. It's no big
deal. I'll get us jobs in no time.
PIMENTEL
(Raised voice)
And I don't want to slave and bust
my ass like this anymore. Let these
newcomers have a shot at this.
Fucking State's crawling with them
like Ants. They're everywhere. All
they know how to do is beg.
JIMENEZ
What are we going to do now? He's
never gonna let us work again.
We're stuck here Pimentel!
PIMENTEL
YOU....are Going to talk to Romero,
and you will tell him that we'll go
pick up the Piedra. And don't fuck
this up. This is our only chance to
make some money.
Jimenez writes something on a note and passes it on to the
next guy, who passes it to another. The note passes along 50
60 workers, arrives in somebody's hands, which is the only
thing we can see as they write something, then moves back
until it arrives at Jimenez, who reads it then pockets it.
JIMENEZ
Meeting's at Eight, tonight.
PIMENTEL
That's 4 hours from now. You didn't
fuck up. I like it.
EXT. STREET - PIMENTEL'S CAR (4 HOURS LATER) - NIGHT
Pimentel and Jimenez are waiting in their car, smoking and
drinking like there's no tomorrow. Empty beer bottles line
the dashboard, among empty cigarette packs. Mexican parade
music is playing on the radio.
JIMENEZ
What do we tell him?
PIMENTEL
(Angry)
That we will do it and for the
price he said.
Pimentel takes a swig from his bottle. He finishes it, then
opens another one.
PIMENTEL
How much is he paying anyway?
JIMENEZ
I spoke with them earlier. The
going rate, for this kind of job,
is 2000 pesos.
PIMENTEL
Must be some kind of good job,
since they pay that good.
Jimenez looks at the clock. It shows 7:59. Jimenez takes a
puff from the Cigarette, then flicks it out the window.
Pimentel empties the beer can, crushes it and throws it out.
As they cross the street, a car nearly runs them over. They
swear in Spanish then enter the Front yard of Romero's House.
Jimenez knocks on the door. A short, brown, seemingly drunk
man opens the door. This is Romero, drug smuggler and father
of 8.
ROMERO
What do you want?
JIMENEZ
Ej, we here to talk about your new
car.
ROMERO
Alright, come in. And watch the
1000$ Rug.
ROMERO (ALTERNATIVE)
Watch the Rug. It's an expensive
Chinese Artifact.
INT. ROMERO'S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Mexican Instrumental Music is playing. Romero's Wife is
yelling from the Kitchen, 4 kids run past Romero, Pimentel
and Jimenez. Romero yells after them.
They sit down. Romero comes back with 3 Bottles of Beer and
pops the lids off. Pimentel immediately takes one.
ROMERO
You decided to do it?
PIMENTEL
We wanted to do it the whole time.
What are you, like some Fucking
Pig?
(To Jimenez)
Chingue Asumadre!
ROMERO
Slow down. Slow down. We don't
wanna lose our heads. How is
everything?
PIMENTEL
What the fuck does it matter how
everything is? Just tell us what's
up with the fucking deal.
Romero, surprised at the outburst, sits down.
ROMERO
Cabron! Calmate. Just trying to be
friendly.
PIMENTEL
Be friendly to your mother, you
Fucking Pig.
ROMERO
There are large amounts of Piedra
stashed down at the docks. It's
only temporary, as they are being
moved in the morning. Your job is
to get the piedra, only a crate.
They owe us that much.
PIMENTEL
That's better.
ROMERO
You can go tomorrow. You have to go
tomorrow.
PIMENTEL
Where do we take the stuff?
ROMERO
Come by here, and pick me up. I'll
go with you...
Pimentel stops him. Romero stares dumbfounded.
PIMENTEL
I don't think so. I think you are
lying.
ROMERO
It will be 2000 each.
JIMENEZ
Lets just go, man. This isn't worth
it. I think Romero is just trying
to screw us around. He's Lying.
ROMERO
ME! Never. I am a man of my word. I
give it, and I never break it.
Everybody who knows me and does
Business with me, knows it.
Pimentel empties the Bottle, Romero opens another one for
him. As he gives Pimentel the Bottle he says:
ROMERO
I know we can work this out. Is
nothing. I pay you half now, the
other half when the goods come.
Come on Cavron. Mitad y Mitad. What
do you say?
PIMENTEL
Half of what? The other Half of the
Piece of Shit I took this Morning?
What are you trying to do? Think we
going to bend over and take it up
the ass? Like some Fucking
Immigrants?
JIMENEZ
If you try to fuck us over, we
going to stick a pinata up your
ass.
ROMERO
Half now. The rest when you come
back. This is Legitimate business.
Opportunities for both of us. No
one else will offer you these kinds
of jobs.
PIMENTEL
Why are you offering us this one?
ROMERO
Because my Jefe heard about you. He
sent me to find and Employ you. He
told me, Ej go find these two guys.
I have a feeling they can do this
job clean.
PIMENTEL
Employ us, my Culo. He wants us to
take the blame for something.
Romero takes out an envelope and slams it on the Coffee
Table. Jimenez doesn't bother Counting, Pimentel wrenches the
Envelope out of Jimenez's hands. Pimentel empties the bottle
again.
PIMENTEL
(To Jimenez)
You don't know what to do with
this. You're supposed to count it
before you take it.
Pimentel takes the Envelope. He looks in, shuffles the money,
the puts the envelope in his pocket.
ROMERO
The guards won't hear or see
nothing. You will have the green
light.
They get up, walk towards the door. Pimentel stops.
PIMENTEL
Remember Pinata. I hold the Stick.
If you fuck us, your Candy will fly
everywhere.
ROMERO
Hold on. Before you do that, My
Jefe wants you to take care of
Warkowitz. His deal with Lopez is
today.
PIMENTEL
That Joto owes us big. We haven't
seen him in at least Five years.
What he do now?
ROMERO
He's been doing business away from
Martinez's eyes. Even tried to turn
on Martinez, nearly got away. He
set up his own Operations.
Pimentel takes a deep breath, and thinks for a second. He
doesn't say anything.
ROMERO
So...will you do it. There is 1000
Pesos for each of you in it.
PIMENTEL
I thought you said there was 2000
for us?
ROMERO
Now, hold on. Why would I raise the
price? I never said such a thing.
PIMENTEL
Maybe you think you can do us over.
You thought you name a different
price, we won't care.
ROMERO
Wait a minute. I'm not trying to
fuck you over.
PIMENTEL
We'll see. Mas te vale, Pendejo!
ROMERO
At the Amondingo Apartments, there
will be a man, his name is Jose
Lopez. He will be doing a deal with
Warkowitz in the Second Floor
Bathroom. All you have to do is go
there and Drop him. Get the money
or the piedra if you can.
PIMENTEL
What the Fuck he is waiting for me
in the Bathroom for. He think I'm
gay or something? Who the fuck is
Jose Lopez?
ROMERO
Jose Lopez is a pig. He's a
homeless. He owes to the
Government, to Martinez and to
Rodriguez.
He's lucky he's still alive,
because he mostly does deals for
Foreman.
PIMENTEL
He gonna sell to us?
ROMERO
He and Warkowitz will make a deal.
The Coke is Martinez's. It's a
setup for Warkowitz. This is his
downfall.
PIMENTEL
Consider it done!
ROMERO
See Cabron! Thousand here, Thousand
there. You get the easy jobs. I
take care of you. You don't worry,
pretty soon you will be making lots
of money.
Pimentel puts the empty Beer Bottle on the credenza, then
leaves. Jimenez stays, talks to Romero's daughter, when, a
hand pulls him away from the door and the Daughter.
EXT. ROMERO'S FRONT YARD
Jimenez and Pimentel exit the front yard. They cross the
street.
PIMENTEL
What the Fuck are you doing? Have
you gone crazy?
JIMENEZ
What? I can have fun. That Chula is
Hot as Hell. I need a piece of
that. She might be interested.
PIMENTEL
Yeah. Imagine the fun Romero will
have cutting off your Balls when he
finds out you trying to fuck his
daughter.
JIMENEZ
(Panics) That's not going to
happen. He ain't gonna know
anything. I'll go in for a hit and
run.
They get in. Jimenez lights a Cigarette and turns the Radio
on. Pimentel pops the lid on a beer bottle, takes a swig, and
drives off.
EXT. LA HOLLA RANCH - WEST CORNFIELDS - DAY
It's a whole new day at the Fields. Rain is falling, covering
the whole area for miles. Workers are in the fields, picking
and planting. Pimentel and Jimenez are at the field, doing
the same thing.
PIMENTEL
Is everything set?
JIMENEZ
The deal is today.
PIMENTEL
We will bring Marco and Jose. We'll
go with the car, Should there be
any problems, we can make a clean
getaway.
JIMENEZ
Have you ever been to a Drug deal?
PIMENTEL
Once.
JIMENEZ
How was it?
PIMENTEL
How should I know. I never made the
deal.
Jimenez looks around the field. Pimentel does too. It's
endless rows and rows of Corn. Pears to the south. Apples,
pears and mangos to the east and west.
PIMENTEL
I can't stand this anymore. 6 years
of doing the same thing. Working
for these pigs. Starving if you
don't make enough.
JIMENEZ
Where would you want to be?
PIMENTEL
Anywhere else. Anywhere but here.
This is a shit job, not for the
likes of us. Me anyway. I don't
know about you, but we need a
change, fast.
JIMENEZ
We can't just leave like that.
PIMENTEL
If we find better jobs, we can.
JIMENEZ
So you want to go to the US. That
is so great. The first thing I will
do when I get home is pack all my
things. Man we'll be out of here so
fast we'll...
PIMENTEL
We're not going anywhere. We still
have a job to do.
JIMENEZ
Well, After....After.
PIMENTEL
How are we going to get that money
and Coke from them? Oaxacanians
aren't Fucked over easily.
JIMENEZ
We'll think of something.
PIMENTEL
To have such a big business, such
class and Style.
(turns towards Jimenez)
One day I will have all that class,
style and I will have the biggest
Drug Empire this world has ever
seen.
JIMENEZ
You know, the beer is getting to
your head.
PIMENTEL
Why is that?
JIMENEZ
The biggest Drug Empire? That has
got to be a One in a Million shot.
PIMENTEL
Oh, you don't want to do it? That's
what you are saying?
JIMENEZ
What I'm saying is, we might not
come out alive if we try. And I
don't want to die. There's so much
ass i need to hit.
PIMENTEL
(Wipes his face)
Why would you die? If we don't do
something now, we might never get
out of this farm.
JIMENEZ
Maybe you won't, but I'm going to
the US. And I'm becoming rich
there.
PIMENTEL
And how will you do that? Don't you
know that you need papers to stay
there? Passports, Green Cards,
Pictures and all that Stuff.
JIMENEZ
There are ways to get all that. If
you get all the right connections.
A passport here. Green Card there.
You got it.
PIMENTEL
Other way that don't involve
getting Arrested and Deported? I
don't think so. Most likely you
will get killed.
JIMENEZ
You'll see. Once we get to the US,
I will become a King.
PIMENTEL
A king of what? King of the
Homeless and needy Pigs? You will
be nothing more than a Beggar.
JIMENEZ
Begging is for Suckers.
PIMENTEL
Begging is for Suckers.....listen
to yourself.
JIMENEZ
I don't know, maybe this deal isn't
that safe.
PIMENTEL
What do you know about Safety, Pig?
You nearly got us Killed last
night. I can't trust you no more
with safety.
INT. BATHROOM - DAY
In the bathroom, a single Stall door is closed. In the stall,
leaning against the wall is a man. This burly, laid-back man
has downy black hair, light brown eyes and a snub nose. He
wears an old Red Sox Baseball Cap and a red, torn shirt. His
name is JOSE LOPEZ.
Lopez is in a stall, waiting. Through the door come in Four
Guys dressed in black Trench Coats. As the door slams shut,
the stall door opens and, Lopez, who is holding a gun, walks
out.
LOPEZ
Gentlemen...before we get to
business, get rid of your guns.
The Guys look at each other, stunned and careful. They take
out their guns and throw them into a Sink.
WARKOWITZ
I assume you will do the same
thing. I can't do business like
that. I won't!
LOPEZ
I will. Got to be careful. Lots of
Fucks who look to take advantage of
you. It won't happen to me again.
They obey and throw those into the sink as well. A man, LENNY
WARKOWITZ, puts his Briefcase down. Lopez watches the
Briefcase.
WARKOWITZ
Look, we just came here to do
business. We ain't going to Fuck
you over. We're Legitimate
Businessmen. I don't let shit like
that happen on my watch.
Lopez puts his gun into the sink as well, slowly, surely. He
watches the other men.
LOPEZ
I'm a careful man.
WARKOWITZ
The Coke?
LOPEZ
It's in the stall over there. One
of you can go and convince
yourself.....only One.
Warkowitz nods to one man, who slowly stumbles towards the
stall and picks up the Briefcase. Lopez eyes him carefully.
The man meets Lopez's eyes, then focuses on the case. He puts
it on the Toilet Seat and opens it. The Case is full of Packs
of Cocaine. He closes it and moves back, slowly. Lopez still
follows him, as the man leans in to Warkowitz's ear.
The man nods to Warkowitz, who switches positions towards the
Sinks.
WARKOWITZ
Do you mind....(Points To the
Sinks)?
Lopez doesn't say anything. He only motions "OK" with his
head. Warkowitz slowly moves, keeping a distance from Lopez.
Lopez moves from Warkowitz's men, so that Warkowitz's covers
him from them.
WARKOWITZ
Refreshment. Long trip here! The
planes these days. Don't give you
shit.
Warkowitz turns the tap on and washes his face. Lopez eyes
him carefully. He rinses out his mouth. An unusual way to
start a deal, but it's Warkowitz's way.
WARKOWITZ
Don't worry. I'm not going to take
the guns.
LOPEZ
Then we can do business. I'm due
somewhere else, so if we can get
this over with as soon as possible,
that would be good.
WARKOWITZ
Are we not going to wait for the
others to show up? After all,
they're your Business partners.
LOPEZ
They're buying from me anyway. The
money?
Warkowitz looks at one of his men. The man comes forward,
opens a case and gives Lopez an eyeful of the green inside.
Lopez shuffles a pack, throws it in, convinced. The case is
closed.
LOPEZ
Four Kilos for 20,000.
WARKOWITZ
That's correct. Unless you have
more that's that.
LOPEZ
Not right now.
WARKOWITZ
Very Well! This is it.
Warkowitz nods to one of his men, but instead they raise
their Machine Guns they had under their Trench Coats. Lopez
grabs his gun. He is outgunned but still tries to keep whats
his.
LOPEZ
You Fucking Pigs. I thought this
was an Honest Deal?
WARKOWITZ
(to the men)
Stay the fuck away!
THUG
You give us the Coke you stole with
Martinez's money. That's Honesty.
LOPEZ
Who told you? Who the fuck told
you?
THUG 2
You fuck him over, you Fucked
yourself. Romero sent us. You both
are dead now.
Lopez had enough. He grabs his gun and shoots one guy, the
others open fire, hit him a few times, as some of the men go
down. Lopez hides in the Stall he came from. Warkowitz runs
out, 2 guys following him. The other two run to the other
side, when we hear gunshots.
EXT. PARKING LOT - DAY
The car is parked in the shade. Pimentel, Marco, Jose and
Jimenez are in the car. Relaxed. Pimentel opens beers for
them and himself.
PIMENTEL
What is with this Fucking Asshole?
I never heard of anybody doing a
deal in a restroom. It's like, you
take a shit, then do the deal.
JIMENEZ
It's one of the most secure places.
PIMENTEL
I hope it is, becau.....
They hear pops, gunshots, coming from the Building. They grab
their guns, and sprint up the stairs.
PIMENTEL
Where is that Shit? Come on! Vamos!
Vamos!
INT. APARTMENTS - HALLWAY
Two guys shoot at them in the hallway. Pimentel and Marco gun
them down.
PIMENTEL
Hijo detu Chingada Madre!
Jimenez checks the stalls and finds Lopez, bleeding heavily.
JIMENEZ
He's here. The case is gone. Jefe!
Que vamos Acer?
Pimentel shouts something inaudibe to Jimenez. Jimenez steps
into the stall. Jimenez levels his shotgun and BOOM,
splatters Lopez's spine on the wall behind him.
PIMENTEL
Vamos. Marco, get all the piedra.
We got to get the buying money.
EXT. APARTMENTS - DAY
The Parking Lot is crammed with Mini-Morris sized cars.
Pimentel's Gang runs down the stairs, just as Warkowitz's car
exits the Apartment Gate. They get into their Car.
PIMENTEL
Date Prisa! Rapido!
And the tires Screech as the Car speeds off, through the gate
and after Warkowitz.
EXT. MAIN STREET - DAY
The Street is crowded with Cars, waiting for the light to
change. Warkowitz's car speeds in between the cars.
Pimentel's car appears from around the corner and tears up on
the Sidewalk, crashing through Ice Cream stands and
Restaurant Tables.
Warkowitz's car moves aside onto the Sidewalk as well.
Pimentel starts firing at them with his UZI. Marco and Jose
do so too.
Warkowitz's men fire back. Pedestrians move aside in Terror.
Some old lady faints. People scream as they run for cover.
Warkowitz's car moves up an incline, and rolls off a ramp,
landing on the street again. Pimentel's car does the same.
The cars weave in and out of the Lanes onto the Sidewalk.
Warkowitz's car squishes and runs people over, as it tears
over the sidewalk. Guns blazing from either car when
Warkowitz's car tire pops, and the car smashes into a Store
Display, turning over onto the roof. Bystanders hurry to see
what happened.
Pimentel's car comes to a screeching stop. They get out just
as Warkowitz stumbles out of the car. Marco shoots a guy
standing next to Warkowitz. Pimentel, switches a new clip and
readies his UZI.
PIMENTEL
Warkowitz!
Warkowitz whips around to face Pimentel, his eyes filled with
Terror. He starts shooting at them, downing 20 or more
bystanders who are running for cover.
WARKOWITZ
You Fuckin' Cocksuckers!
JIMENEZ
Fuck you!
WARKOWITZ
I should have known. You Fuckin'
Pig. You set this up. You Fuckin'
Cocksucker.
MARCO
You're dead now, Carajo!
Pimentel empties the clip into Warkowitz, blowing him back
towards the Display Window. In the overturned car, a man
moves with a gun, slowly, bleeding. Jimenez shoots him.
Marco and Jose retrieve the Piedra and Money Cases from the
Overturned Car. Bystanders run for cover throughout the
street.
Warkowitz's body lies, sprawled, in the Display Window.
Pimentel approaches Warkowitz, looks at him for a second and
spits on him, without any compassion at all, them runs off.
Pimentel's team packs up and the Tires screech as the
oncoming Police Sirens get closer.
EXT. MARTINEZ GOLF COURSE - ENTRANCE GATE - DAY
Pimentel, Jose, Jimenez and Marco are waiting at the Entrance
Gate for someone. Some time passes when, a Butler appears and
shows them through the Gate, and into a lavish, green Golf
Course.
PIMENTEL
Is this where your Jefe lives?
BUTLER
This is where he works, sir!
JIMENEZ
Class. This is some High Class,
sir!
INT. MARTINEZ GOLF COURSE - OFFICE
A Deluxe, yet stylish, Office with the latest in Security
Surveillance and Technical Appliances, with a large number of
Statues and Ancient Collectible Artifacts -- with two large,
serious faced guards, guarding the Entrance door. The guards
move in front of the door. Pimentel and the others stop in
front of them. A voice says something in spanish, from
somewhere off. The guards nod, then move away.
The Boss-and Owner- Santo Martinez, comes down some very long
and curled steps. His sharp and expensive suit gives him away
as a man not to mess with.
He comes down and shakes hands with all of them.
MARTINEZ
Nice to meet all of you. Finally
Someone who can touch foot to the
Pavement and do something the way
it's supposed to be done.
PIMENTEL
Mr. Martinez...real pleasure to
meet you.
The others shake hands with him.
MARTINEZ
Please....call Me Santo.
Martinez heads for the Bar. Pimentel and the gang move a few
feet forward, still uncomfortable, but taking in the vast
room.
MARTINEZ
Romero tells me very good things
about you. He says you are
Reliable. Something I look to find
in everybody I do business with.
PIMENTEL
Yes....Romero Is good to have
around! (glances at Romero)
JIMENEZ
Hell yeah. He's fuckin' good with
business.
MARTINEZ
And of course taking into account
what you did about Warkowitz.
Besides, that garbage had to go.
JIMENEZ
Romero told us he Fucked you Good.
MARTINEZ
It's something best left in the
past.
PIMENTEL
Yeah. That piece of shit wasn't
anything special. He had it coming.
MARTINEZ
(Smiles, loves their Guts and
Determination)
You boys want anything? Scotch?
Beer? Rum? Vodka?....Women?
PIMENTEL
Women and Beer. Don't know about
them, but I'm thirsty as a Fucking
Burro.
Martinez pops open a Bottle of Beer and slides it to
Pimentel, who immediately takes a swig. He pours a Scotch to
him and Jose, Marco and Jimenez.
MARTINEZ
You guys are the kind of people I
need. Someone who works as good as
you.
JIMENEZ
We looking for work. We heard you
was needing a couple of guys. We
here now!
Still enormously overwhelmed with the Whole Place and what
happened in the city, the gang sit down with Martinez and
Romero, who just arrived.
ROMERO
What did I tell you Jefe? Real guts
on these guys.
MARTINEZ
Yes, but it's something people
around here don't seem to have.
(Looks at Romero)
MARTINEZ
So, how did it go down? I heard you
nearly got killed, Jose?
JOSE
Yeah, but it's not a big deal. One
guy had a shotgun when we burst in.
He missed. It was out of instinct
that I shot him.
MARCO
These guys were the most Ruthless
gang around here. What were they
doing all the way up there?
MARTINEZ
My former associate, Consuelo,
brought them here. Competition
against me.
JIMENEZ
Why does he bring them here? I
heard he's the main guy in Oaxaca,
and business is much better there
than here now.
MARTINEZ
Old Problems.
Romero drops in between them. He's got a wad of money. He
starts counting it on the counter.
ROMERO
Two Thousand Pesos each.
Martinez, locked in silent thought, raises his hand to
Romero, who stops talking.
MARTINEZ
I like good people like these.
These days you don't find them
anymore. You come to me when you
ready to work.
Pimentel looks off to the side, at two people. A man and a
woman who are just exiting. Martinez notices Pimentel's look.
MARTINEZ
They work for me. Lawyers.
Pimentel and the others pocket the money.
PIMENTEL
Well.....Santo...
Pimentel puts the Briefcase he brought down on the Table and
opens it. Martinez moves closer to inspect it. He likes what
he sees.
MARTINEZ
That is the Coke...and their Money.
You know, i just needed Warkowitz
out of the way. You did a good job.
You put yourself in a lot of Danger
for me.
PIMENTEL
That was nothing. The easiest job
so far.
Pimentel slides the Briefcase over to Martinez. Martinez says
nothing, but stares at the case.
PIMENTEL
That is their money. This case is
yours. We almost died for this
stuff.
MARTINEZ
I don't know what to tell you. I'm
stunned. You know, i built up mu
turf honestly, while staying loyal
to my boss. Lots of people aren't
loyal these days.
PIMENTEL
Mr. Martinez. We're loyal to
whoever we work for. We never gonna
try to fuck anybody.
MARTINEZ
I can't disagree on my part on
that. Start working for me right
away, and maybe some day you guys
can have your own turf.
PIMENTEL
What are we going to do about our
old jobs? We can't just leave.
They'll be after us because we owe
them money.
MARTINEZ
I'll take care of everything. Leave
it to me.
(to Romero) Send Manny down there.
Should be no problem for him.
JIMENEZ
Mr. Martinez. I can't tell you how
grateful we are that you give us
jobs here.
MARTINEZ
Greatness has it's own reward. You
showed me that when you walked in
here a moment ago.
MARTINEZ
But...those two have been acting
strangely. Vallero, I know is
dealing behind my back. Sandra, I'm
not sure yet. I don't want to have
to dispose of them until I'm 100%
sure. Tail them from day to day and
tell me what they are doing.
EXT. CENTRAL STREET - DAY
Pimentel's car sits parked at the Curb. They have a White
Convertible, 1966 Lincoln Continental. The music is playing.
On the Dashboard, empty beer bottles and cigarette packs lie
still. Pimentel, Jimenez, Marco and Jose sit still, waiting
for Vallero and Sandra to show up.
Some time passes and from across the Street, out of the
Apartment Doors walks out Vallero, by himself. Sandra is
nowhere to be seen. His car is brought out and he drives off.
Jimenez in the drivers seat, they follow him.
EXT. WAREHOUSE COMPLEX - DAY
Vallero's car enters through the gate. Two guards stand guard
at the Entrance Gate. Pimentel's car pulls up, behind a
little bush.
JIMENEZ
What do you think he's doing?
PIMENTEL
I don't know. Let's go in later for
a closer look.
They all relax and sit back in their seats, as the music
plays lightly on the radio.
INT. PIMENTEL'S APARTMENT
Pimentel is on the phone.
VERRANO
Yes he's got it. He might call, he
might not, but if he does be ready.
PIMENTEL
I'll see what I can do.
VERRANO
He can't know that it's you
Pimentel. We do too much business
together with Martinez. You're
gonna have to get someone else to
kill him and there is no way it can
point to us. You understand?
PIMENTEL
Yes I understand.
VERRANO
One more thing, he loves to gamble.
Take him to the casino and wait for
him. When he's done, he will bring
his laundered money. Take him to
the Steel Works and dispose of him.
The money you can keep...as
payment.
INT. MICHOACAN USED CARS LOT - DAY
Pimentel and Jimenez are looking at some Cars. Marco and Jose
are checking another one out, then join Pimentel and Jimenez.
PIMENTEL
Pull your tongue out of your ass,
meng. Dogs do that, and you're not
a dog, are you Vicente?
Taken aback by the change in tone, Vicente swallows.
VICENTE
Err no, I am not.
PIMENTEL
However, you do have all of the
characteristics of a Coyote
Vicente, all except loyalty.
There is a definite change in temperature.
PIMENTEL (CONT'D)
People like Coyotes Vicente, for
the main reason that they're loyal.
So I don't quite know where that
leaves you my old son, other than
the street.
There is a problem, an obvious problem.
PIMENTEL (CONT'D)
Which one was it that kept the four
grand from the Museum job?
Pause.
PIMENTEL (CONT'D)
Don't make me ask again. I would
like answers, but I am not in the
mood for asking questions, get busy
meng, or it's feeding time. We'll
keep bringing you the cars, you
sell them.
Jimenez takes a step to the side and moves his eyes in a
sideways action implying the guilt lies with Vicente. Vicente
catches this and opens his mouth to protest.
He then hands Pimentel a folded up list. Pimentel takes it
and opes it. On the note are scribbled names of American and
Foreign Cars. Pimentel hands the note to Jimenez.
PIMENTEL (CONT'D)
You'll get the cars in two to four
days.
INT. PAWN SHOP - DAY
Pimentel looks angry.
PIMENTEL
No wonder that sneaky fuckin Gringo
didn't want to do it.
JIMENEZ
First things first, one of us,
Marco, you get round to-the
Pistolero's. The second you see
them call us.
PIMENTEL
You better be back with something
substantial, don't turn up with a
frown and a wagging head.
MARCO
I am on it Pimentel.
Pimentel opens a Beer.
PIMENTEL
We're gonna go pick up this Gambler
and take him to the Casino. We
should be back in a couple of
hours.
EXT. CASINO
Pimentel new 1966 Lincoln is parked in front of the casino.
INT. PIMENTEL'S CAR
Pimentel is in the car with Jimenez and Jose. The car is
parked at the feet of the Casino. Loud music comes from the
Casino Floor, we can hear it all the way to Pimentel's Car.
Pimentel is extremely angry about seeing some guy pass on the
street, he recognizes. He has a quick look down the street.
The man stops, looks in Pimentel's direction.
MAN
What the fuck you lookin' at?
PIMENTEL
I know you. What's your name?
MAN
What the fuck it matters to you?
PIMENTEL
I need to know, or i can just kill
you now.
MAN
Benito juarez.
Pimentel realizes who it is, but double checks.
PIMENTEL
From chihuahua?
JUAREZ
Yeah. What the fuck you want from
me?
Pimentel takes out his gun. Juarez Bolts from where he was
standing. Jimenez cranks the car, and it leaves skid marks.
They pursue Juarez on the main street.
Juarez turns into an alley. Jimenez turns into it and sees
Juarez running. Juarez removes a gun from his jacket and
fires.
Pimentel takes out an UZI. He loads it and fires. Juarez runs
in a panic. The car catches up to him.
JIMENEZ
No me mates. No me mates.
Pimentel empties the whole clip into Juarez's back. Juarez
sprawls on the ground. The car stops, Pimentel gets out and
takes Juarez's backpack he had with him. The car drives off.
EXT. CASINO
Moments later, Pimentel's car pulls up to the Casino. Seconds
later, Antonio Barraco, the man who they brought to the
Casino, walks out. He has a few girls with him. They hug him
and kiss him as they approach Pimentel's car. The girls and
Barraco get in. The car leaves.
INT. PIMENTEL'S CAR
PIMENTEL
How was your stay at the Casino?
BARRACO
Good. We had a great night.
(Looks at the girls)
Didn't we girls.
The girls giggle.
PIMENTEL
Mr. Martinez said you are a great
business Partner.
BARRACO
He did? Say it isn't so.
EXT. PIMENTEL'S CAR
Jimenez turns on the Freeway ramp. They ascend on the
Freeway.
INT. PIMENTEL'S CAR
PIMENTEL
How do you like Michoacan?
BARRACO
To be honest. Not that much. It's
not like Florida. Lots of crime
here.
EXT. FREEWAY
Pimentel's car gets off the freeway. At the next light, it
makes a right turn, then enters the Steel Factory.
INT. MARTINEZ GOLF COURSE - OFFICE - DAY
Martinez is waiting. Pimentel, Marco, Jimenez and Jose come
in. He offers them drinks, which they gladly accept. They sit
down.
MARTINEZ
I would love it if you took my
Daughter to the Hair Salon
downtown. She has an appointment. I
would do it myself, but an
appointment calls my attention.
JIMENEZ
It's done!
PIMENTEL
Vallero was by himself today. He
ended up on the East side, by the
construction zones. Some Men met
him. They had briefcases. I think
they are into something.
MARTINEZ
I should have known he's up to
something.
Martinez's Daughter comes down the rounded steps. She's about
22 - 25 years old, blond hair, blue eyes, and short.
Her name is Yolanda Martinez. She runs up to Martinez, who
gets up, and gives him a big kiss on the cheek and a hug.
MARTINEZ
My little Pumpkin?
YOLANDA
Papa! I missed you at the game!
Martinez shakes her off and turns her in the direction of the
others. Jimenez notices Yolanda as her butt bounces up and
down. He stares. Pimentel notices and bumps him with his
elbow.
MARTINEZ
These are the guys who will take
you to the Hair Salon. Don't worry,
they work for me.
YOLANDA
I will wait by the car.
She runs out, grabbing her backpack as she does. She shoots
Jimenez a Naughty look.
MARTINEZ
Take her whereever she wants to go.
PIMENTEL
Santo! We'll take care of it.
MARTINEZ
(threateningly)
Just make sure to keep her safe.
That's all I'm going to tell you.
PIMENTEL
Don't worry. Nothing will happen to
her. She's safe with us.
Pimentel, unyielding, watches as Yolanda runs out of the
room. He moves out too.
EXT. HAIR SALON - DAY
Yolanda walks out of the Hair Salon. She enters the Car and
flips down the mirror.
INT. PIMENTEL'S CAR
Yolanda looks herself over on the Mirror. She applies makeup
and brushes her hair.
PIMENTEL
Ok. Where you want to go now?
YOLANDA
I want to go to the Hidalgo Club.
Do you know where it is?
PIMENTEL
Hidalgo Club it is.
(To Jimenez)
Vamos!
The Car starts and Jimenez does a U-turn. They screech off.
EXT. HIDALGO CLUB - DAY
The car comes to a Stop. Yolanda wants to get out, but
Pimentel grabs her shoulder and stops her.
YOLANDA
Hey...Que Pasa?
PIMENTEL
Wait Here. He's going to go check
the inside.
JIMENEZ
What's going on?
PIMENTEL
What do you mean what's going on?
We have to check the bar.
JIMENEZ
There's nothing dangerous about
this place.
PIMENTEL
Will you at least go in with her.
We can't take any chances. You
heard the boss. And take Marco with
you.
Jimenez nods to Marco, who slams a clip in his UZI and hides
it in his coat. Marco gets out and opens the door for
Yolanda. She gets out and they walk her to the door. Yolanda
slips some Coke into her purse. Jimenez and Marco see it.
INT. CAR
JOSE
Got any more Beer?
PIMENTEL
What? You don't drink!
JOSE
Yeah! Who doesn't?
PIMENTEL
Let's go down to Lencho's. He's got
specials today.
INT. HIDALGO CLUB
Yolanda is On the Dance Floor. Marco and Jimenez are sitting
in a Booth, chatting, watching that no harm comes to her.
Through the window, we see Pimentel's Lincoln drive off.
Yolanda continues dancing, now with some guys prancing around
her. Jimenez alerts Marco, who shakes off the warning.
Jimenez gets up, walks calmly over to Yolanda and shakes a
guy off of her. Yolanda throws him a look.
JIMENEZ
Hi! How are you?
YOLANDA
Ok! I guess.
JIMENEZ
You like dancing?
YOLANDA
What gives you that idea?
JIMENEZ
You dance good. You look like you
love it.
YOLANDA
Then I do.
Jimenez is dancing next to her. Well, he's more jumping from
side to side. He actually looks more like the Energizer
Bunny.
JIMENEZ
What do you do?
YOLANDA
I'm in school.
JIMENEZ
You gonna be like a Teacher or
Something?
YOLANDA
Where do you get that?
JIMENEZ
Lots of kids these days become some
kind of Teachers.
YOLANDA
(kinda likes him) I'll be a
Technician!
Jimenez puts his arm around her. She casually brushes it off.
YOLANDA
(Lying)
Don't get the wrong idea.
JIMENEZ
Now you're talking. I like this.
You'll warm up. You just wait.
Out of the side Curtain, up on the stage, a man with a Sub
Machine gun pops out, starts shooting at the Dance Floor, and
runs down the few steps. Now on the Dance Floor, he looks for
Yolanda. Another man pops out.
Marco and Jimenez have taken cover. Marco spots Yolanda, face
down on the ground.
MARCO
Now what?
JIMENEZ
Damn, We're dead.
The Gunman has his weapon trained on them, and out of sheer
instinct, Marco shoots the Man, who drops like a bag of
Potatoes, but also dropping two Bombs without the Safety
Pins.
Yolanda moves a little. Jimenez sees her move. She's about to
stand up, but Marco moves his arm, stops her from getting up.
JIMENEZ
Go get her.
Marco runs across the Dance Floor, when more Gunmen show up
and start shooting. The bombs go off, just as Marco slides
down on the Dance floor towards Yolanda. He kills two Gunmen,
and with his other hand, pulls Yolanda to safety.
A grenade lands next to Jimenez, who sees it and lobs it back
the way it came from. It explodes and we hear cries of pain.
Through the window, we see Pimentel's car pull up. Jimenez
and Marco grab Yolanda, and bolt for the door, shooting their
way through, felling a few Gunmen. More gunmen appear. Frmo
the Car, Pimentel, Jose and Jesus open fire with UZIs,
shattering the big Show Window and killing the thugs. From
the back some more come. They are also killed.
EXT. HIDALGO CLUB
Yolanda makes for the car, and slings in through the open
Rooftop. Marco and Jimenez skip out of the door, firing
inside the Building through the door.
PIMENTEL
Vamos!
Jimenez jumps in the car. Marco throws the UZI inside the car
and Launches to the Front seat. The Tires leave skidmarks as
it screeches off. The gunmen run out and start shooting after
them.
INT. MARTINEZ GOLF COURSE
The room is highly decorated. The camera centers on Martinez,
who stares incredulously at Romero, who is sitting next to
Pimentel, Marco, Jose and Jimenez.
MARTINEZ
What Happened?
ROMERO
We don't know who did it. I never
saw those guys before.
MARTINEZ
You said that place was safe?
ROMERO
Take is easy Jefe, Carajo. Nothing
serious happened.
MARTINEZ
Carajo? Is that all you can say?
Take it easy....Carajo. I pay you
to maintain Security around here,
and then this happens.
ROMERO
They didn't go through with it.
They were stopped in time.
MARTINEZ
They could have killed her. Then
what? What if there were nobody to
save her?
PIMENTEL
Jefe!
MARTINEZ
I am grateful that you were there,
Pimentel. Who knows how this could
have turned out.
ROMERO
Santo, Santo....
MARTINEZ
(ranting)
I mean if this is how we're going
to run this place, then there's
seriously something wrong here.
Somebody's got a problem with me.
ROMERO
You saying...I'm not being honest
with you Martinez? Carajo!
MARTINEZ
Carajo my ass! What the hell is the
matter with you? You trying to go
off on your own now? Figure our
safety is no longer a concern?
Two of Martinez's Bodyguards come in. Marco and Jose slip
their hands closer to their belts. The guards stop, flankin
Romero.
MARTINEZ
(Quietly and Carefully) let's just
say, that things weren't exactly
like you said they would be. That
deal you set up with Foreman, tell
him to wait.
Romero gives Martinez a Cold, Hard look, full of Hate. He
can't just break the deal up. Foreman will go nuts when he
finds out!
ROMERO
(Long Pause)
....Ok...you are the Boss.
He gets up to Leave, nods to the Guards. The guards separate,
Letting Romero pass through.
MARTINEZ
Don't get any ideas of going off on
your own. You do that, you're
against me then. You're against all
of Mexico then.
Romero gets to the door. The guards join him. Romero Stops.
ROMERO
What's that supposed to mean?
MARTINEZ
What do you think it means? I'm
serving you notice right now, while
everything is still peaceful. A
warning.
Romero, getting mad, shifts his focus back and forth. He's
holding a Golf Club in his hand.
ROMERO
You know what....You work for me
now. Your time is up. Cross me
and...! This is my warning.
With Martinez saying nothing, Romero goes out the door with
the Two Guards. The door slams shut.
Martinez sits in his chair. Jose runs over and pours him
whiskey.
MARTINEZ
Thanks Jose.
(To Pimentel)
We're gonna have to watch him from
now on. He'll turn to Tapio and
Foreman for sure.
PIMENTEL
Yeah, but who knows who he's
working for now? Could be all kinds
of fucks.
JIMENEZ
A wrong move could bring out a gang
war. We could be caught right in
the middle.
MARTINEZ
I'm going to have you guys work
directly for me right now, now that
Romero's gone, i will need someone
like you guys. Will you continue
working for me?
PIMENTEL
It'll be a pleasure Mr. Martinez.
MARTINEZ
First things first, go up to
Foreman's turf - have a look
around. See who's working up there.
Go to him and offer him to work for
me. His business is failing, but
his Turf is an important route for
Rerouting drugs.
JIMENEZ
I see. We control that part, we
basically control all of western
Michoacan?
MARTINEZ
That's right. Then go to the
Albertos Brothers. Tell them that
Vicente Salazar broke off a deal
with them. Knowing the Albertos,
without assurance, they will go to
war at once. Salazar will win,
leaving their turf for the taking.
Then we move in. We take
everything. The army will help you,
whenever you need them. Tell them i
sent you.
PIMENTEL
We'll get to it right away!
Albertos then Salazar.
EXT. MARTINEZ GOLF COURSE - ENTRANCE GATE
Just outside the Entrance Gate, Romero and the Guards wait
for their car.
ROMERO
(Mad)
Fuck Him!
(Beat)
We gotta find Sandra and Vallero.
There's not much time.
INT. MICHOACAN ZOO - DAY
The backstage area of the zoo is void of any workers. Lots of
equipment covers the area. It's semi-dark, but moist. A man
moves through the area.
INT. TANK ROOM
The man comes into a large room, with a giant Water Tank. On
the top, are a few guys waiting for him. The man climbs some
ladder. When he gets to the top, a hand reaches down and
pulls him up. There are Pimentel, Jimenez, Marco and Jose and
Trujillo.
PIMENTEL
I thought the deal was done?
BENEDICTO
My Jefe thought we could start over
again. New chance.
PIMENTEL
Tel you Jefe, since last time, all
business has been broken off.
BENEDICTO
Come on man. I'm fighting for my
life here.
PIMENTEL
You should have fought a little
harder. Tell you what. My Jefe has
me down to sell the Twenty Five
Tonneladas from the last time. Are
you sure?
BENEDICTO
Man...sure am glad to have my life
back. My partner and i, both of us.
Pimentel waves to Marco and Trujillo. They drag somebody from
behind a curtain.
PIMENTEL
You wish to still purchase the
Parts?
BENEDICTO
Yes. I told you.
PIMENTEL
Is that your Partner.
Marco holds the man, while Jose stabs im in his arms. They
push the man into the Tank. The man makes a splash, then
tries to swim to the edge. Blood seeps into the water.
Suddenly -- a Great White Shark lunges from the bottom, jumps
into the air with Benedicto's Partner in it's jaws --
completely out of the water. It lands with a great splash,
wetting Benedicto. His partner briefly surfaces, tries to
call for help, and is dragged under.
PIMENTEL
The bulk of the Parts will arrive
next week. Bring the Buy Money and
the Money you owe to Mr. Martinez.
The betrayals stop today -- our
collections begin. Do this or join
your partner at the bottom.
Benedicto frantically looks at all the men. He skips down the
ladder, falls at the bottom, then runs like hell out of the
Tank Room.
PIMENTEL
That was the Albertos. Vamos to
Salazar.
EXT. ROMERO'S WAREHOUSE - DAY
Four Cars, trunks and doors opening, come to a screeching
halt. Pimentel's Impala right behind them. The men get out
and arm themselves with Assault Rifles, Shotguns and Machine
Guns.
INT. ROMERO'S WAREHOUSE
Cubans and Peruvians charge at the door with their guns. As
they approach the Large Hangar-Like door --
EXT. ROMERO'S WAREHOUSE
-- one of Pimentel's men aims a Rocket Launcher at the Door.
MARCO
Fuego!
The Rocket blows apart the door, with a few of the Cubans
behind it, granting passage into the Warehouse.
INT. ROMERO'S WAREHOUSE
The large Lights on the Ceiling are turned on. Cubans are
everywhere, Machine Guns in their hands.
Pimentel's men open fire on Romero's Men. Armando, Romero's
assistant, Shot through the head, crashes down into a
Dumpster below. A gunfight opens up quickly. Romero runs to
the back. Rinaldo, Romero's Drug Smuggler, makes his way to
his office, wounded. He limps heavily, as he disapears behind
the door.
INT. RINALDO'S OFFICE
Rinaldo slams the door shut, locks it and retreats to his
chair. He holds his stomach, where the bullet hit.
From his chair, he fumbles in the desk's Filing Drawers,
Fishing out tons of documents.
The gunfire outside his room, suddenly stops. Rinaldo is
sweating pools of sweat.
RINALDO
Romero?
No Answer. He fumbles in is coat pocket, takes out a Zippo
Lighter and holds a Document near it. The gunfire resumes for
a short while.
JESUS (O.S.)
Come on. In here!
The Door is blown away. Pimentel and the guys storm in. On
the desk, documents are burning in the wastebaskets. Rinaldo
is throwing more in. Jesus shoots Rinaldo in the hand.
Rinaldo drops the document.
MARCO
Are those the Documents you stole
from Mr. Martinez?
The guys move in, surround Rinaldo and drag him out. Rinaldo
struggles to get free.
INT. ROMERO'S WAREHOUSE
They drag Rinaldo past the dead bodies, to the entrance. They
throw Rinaldo on the ground, and hold him. Two guys force two
short Two by Fours on his palms. Another two drive two large
nails through the Wood and Rinaldo's Hands. They do the same
to his legs. His shirt is torn off. A guy comes to him, with
a Belt Sander in his hand. He turns it on.
From the inside, they hear a car screech by the open door.
It's Romero and a few guys. They drive off. Pimentel ignores
them.
PIMENTEL
Where is Mr. Martinez's money?
RINALDO
You fuck. You will pay for this.
Pimentel glances at Jose. Jose lowers the Belt Sander on
Rinaldo's Chest. Blood spatters the two. Rinaldo screams in
agony.
RINALDO (CONT'D)
You will never have it back. It's
ours now. The truck you transported
it with, it was ours.
Jose takes the Sander off, leaving trails of missing skin and
pieces of Flesh.
PIMENTEL
Mr. Martinez doesn't think so. That
Money? You owe him now.
RINALDO
Of course it's ours. We lure you
into the truck with the money. We
blow it. History Lesson for You.
Except that old Fucked Fuck Face
was smarter than Victor hand hoped.
Who the fuck does a deal in a
Restroom.
PIMENTEL
Who the fuck is Victor?
RINALDO
You will be in hell before i tell
you.
Jose applies the Belt sander on Rinaldo again. More blood
spatters with skin and Muscle. Jose takes the Sander off.
RINALDO (CONT'D)
I hope your mother will get her ass
ripped by my men.
Pimentel, angered, leaves the Warehouse. Moments later he
backs his Impala into the garage, and Parks the rear over
Rinaldo. He gets out, with a cable in his hand. Rinaldo spits
out blood.
PIMENTEL
Just give us the money. Our boss's
money and his Documents. We'll let
you go then.
Rinaldo spits at him. Pimentel moves a lever on the little
Box, and the Impala's back slowly drops. It lowers on
Rinaldo's ribcage, we hear a Crack. Rinaldo breathes quickly.
RINALDO
Please...just let me go. It's all
in there.
PIMENTEL
Yeah. Ok, but who is Victor?
RINALDO
He's the guy, that Romero got to
kill all of you.
Rinaldo hesitates. The car lowers even more. Rinaldo coughs
and spits out blood. He strains as he tries to talk.
RINALDO (CONT'D)
The money is in My Office, in the
safe. The guy, Victor, is actually
the head of a Few Families in Lower
Michoacan. He works together with
Martinez's Lawyers and Romero.
This time as the car drops, more ribs crack.
RINALDO (CONT'D)
(In Pain)
he..he told us there was a great
deal of money and Power for us if
we killed you and Martinez. He
promised us more Territory. That is
all, you Fucking Assholes.
Pimentel pulls down on the lever. The car crushes Rinaldo.
His insides spill through his sides and his mouth.
PIMENTEL
We have to clean the car.
(To Jesus)
Take Marco and Jose. Go get the
money and the documents. Meet us
here.
The car lifts off. One guy cleans the underside of the car.
The other cars are backed into the garage. They start loading
the cars.
EXT. ROMERO'S WAREHOUSE (MOMENTS LATER)
The cars screech out of the Lot and merge with the oncoming
traffic. Moments later, the whole warehouse Explodes. Debree
cover everything. The cars on the road try to evade the
debree.
INT. BAR - NIGHT
Pimentel grabs a man, Guillarmo by the collar. Guillarmo
screams, but nobody seems to notice.
PIMENTEL
It makes me curious to see you in
this neighborhood. Especially in my
Jefe's Bar. If I can tolerate
Babosos on my Jefe's own formative
Turf, it makes me mad, this
invasion of Privacy. Plus, I don't
know if it's beyond some cop fuck
like Fucking Fernando to pull you
out of Durango, and send you after
Jefe. I just can't know.
He grabs Guillarmo's right hand. Bends his fingers back as
far as possible. Guillarmo squeals. Some guys in the back
laugh. Guillarmo tries to break free, but Pimentel's got him
arm under his armpit.
PIMENTEL
Are you an Informant now, too?
GUILLARMO
No. I swear.
PIMENTEL
Don't swear. It's bad.
Pimentel bends Guillarmo's fingers even more. Guillarmo's
legs buckle under the intense pain.
PIMENTEL
You swear on your mother's grave
that you're not an Informant. Don't
lie to me, Pendejo.
GUILLARMO
I am not an Informant.
PIMENTEL
You stop doing coke deals with your
Friend, Santiago?
GUILLARMO
Yes! I swear. Let me go!
Pimentel lets go of Guillarmo's hand. Guillarmo is weeping on
the floor. Pimentel straightens his suit. A smile appears on
his face.
PIMENTEL
I'm sorry. It was necessary.
(To Jimenez) As for our problem
with Foreman...let's not cry over
old Tacos.
INT. THE MAIN PART OF THE BAR. MOMENTS LATER
Pimentel points at a group of drinkers, including a blond
woman. They wave at him.
PIMENTEL
What's this Federale pig doing in
this bar?
The Federale Guy is terrified. He starts to make his way out,
when Pimentel grabs him.
PIMENTEL
(slapping him on the back)
Only kidding. How's your mother?
FEDERALE
Ah, she's on her way out. I'm
waiting for her.
PIMENTEL
We all are.
(straightens suit and tie)
Act accordingly. Go drink
something.
Pimentel, Jimenez, Jose and Marco exit the bar.
INT. THE GANG'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
Jimenez is shelling and eating peanuts. Marco, Jose and Jesus
are sitting at the round table. Trujillo joins them. Beers
and Cigarettes are around them.
PIMENTEL
Do you trust him?
JIMENEZ
These days, who can you trust?
TRUJILLO
His Uncle Marco was trustable.
JIMENEZ
They are talented in all possible
ways.
JOSE
You don't trust a guy that behaves
like he's got nothin' to lose.
JIMENEZ
I'm reliable. And he is.
PIMENTEL
Well, you're one in a million. You
are as rare as a comet that comes
to earth.
JIMENEZ
There is nothing rarer than me.
JOSE
What about your girl, Martinez's
Daughter? Or Romero's Daughter?
JIMENEZ
Thing's are good. But, Romero's
daughter turns out to be this huge
Junkie. I don't want anything to do
with her. She's gonna pull me into
bad trouble.
TRUJILLO
She is too. Martinez's daughter is
hot too.
JIMENEZ
Watch your mouth. We're going out
in half an hour. Finest restaurant
in town.
EXT. APARTMENTS - DAY
Pimentel is waiting on the side of the Road. He's looking up
and down the Street. Music is playing in a Background Alley
somewhere, Punk Music. And it's really loud.
PIMENTEL
Where the fuck.....
A car pulls up. It couldn't really be called a Car. Rust
eating away at it. Back windows missing, Duct tape replacing
them. Of the four tires, none are matching. The Rear Left
tire is a little bigger than the rest. The driver Honks.
Pimentel turns.
PIMENTEL
What the.....
The driver gets out. Although he's driving this junk, he's
dressed better than the car looks. He's in his Mid-Twenties,
Short with Black Hair. This is ALFONSO TRUJILLO. Future
member of Pimentel's Gang.
TRUJILLO
Como Estas! Pimentel. Long time no
see.
Another man gets out of the Backseat. He's holding a little
Dog. The dog growls at Pimentel.
PIMENTEL
....Yeah!
TRUJILLO
Never mind him. This is Hector.
He's with me.
(To Hector)
Vamos. Vamos. El perro tambien.
Trujillo gets in the Contraption. Pimentel and Hector jump
in. The car struggles to move. It doesn't budge. Trujillo
punches the gas, keeps doing it, then the car slowly starts
moving.
INT. TRUJILLO'S CAR - MOVING - DAY
Pimentel is looking out of the Window. Trujillo is talking to
him, but Pimentel doesn't listen most of the Time.
TRUJILLO
I didn't wanna leave my City, just
to come to work for him, you know.
At least this is close. Could have
been farther away. And it's not too
far away from my parents. They're
77 already, and can't do much.
Out of Nowhere, a 70 Year old Lady jumps out in front of the
Truck, crossing the Street. Trujillo slams on the Brakes--
TRUJILLO
Watch it! Chinga tu Madre!
EXT. STREET - DAY
-- and swerves off around her. He yells something in Spanish
out the Window. The lady shows him the middle finger.
TRUJILLO
Mirarlo, tú vieja vaca.
BACK IN CAR
Trujillo continues driving, still angry at the lady.
TRUJILLO
These god damn People here. Worse
than Blind Flies.
Old problems and Arguments surface again, as Pimentel and
Trujillo raise their voices.
PIMENTEL
(With Attitude)
Well what did you want? You think I
wanted this? You think I wanted to
come here and be treated like a
goddamn prisoner. Fucking Federales
stopping me at every corner.
TRUJILLO
What are you talking about? You
only came here, cause you took the
Easy way out. Because of the
Fucking Campos.
Because you couldn't handle what we
did in Chihuahua!
PIMENTEL
Easy way. What easy Way? How easy
was it to come here? I had to kill
people to come here. You only sold
them. Serrato did you a good favor
when he knocked off your sentence.
I still can't go to Oaxaca or
Chihuahua.
TRUJILLO
Three years. Three years you don't
come here, everything is OK. Then
you come and somebody dies. Like a
plan? I think so.
PIMENTEL
This wasn't planned. I didn't want
to come here and drive around with
you in a Fucking Horse Carriage.
The cops still looking for you? You
still a wanted man?
TRUJILLO
Alfonso Herrera's brother works at
the Courthouse. Knows the Judge. He
took care of everything. I was in a
tight spot.
PIMENTEL
You or the Car?
TRUJILLO
And besides, when you showed up,
somebody died. Every time you come,
somebody dies.
Pimentel, surprised, looks at him.
PIMENTEL
Who died?
TRUJILLO
Alfonso Herrera!
PIMENTEL
Alfonso Herrera?
TRUJILLO
Yeah. Remember the man who used to
own all those Factories here in
Michoacan?
PIMENTEL
The one with the hot Daughter?
TRUJILLO
Yeah. They found him this morning.
Looks like he got into it with the
Campos Pretty good. They tied him
to the train tracks. Train made a
mess out of him.
PIMENTEL
What happened to his business.
TRUJILLO
Nothing. He's done a very funny
business decision. He leaves his
will to his kids, saying how ever
much money they offer for the
factories, they own them. Now get
this, somebody got their hands on
the Will beforehand, and did a
little work, so now the business is
somehow under Foreman. Nobody had
any direct evidence that shows
Foreman doing it.
Pimentel thinks, while Trujillo keeps talking.
Pimentel hears a little ping in the back, turns his head
halfway and decides its nothing.
PIMENTEL
Then tell me...Where was Pedro when
you guys left us?
TRUJILLO
We had no choice. Don't nobody want
to go to jail here. Besides, you
know we acted on Jose's orders.
Pedro's still serving time. He's
got 10 more to go meng.
PIMENTEL
I know. Where are the old friends
now? What are they doing? How come
I never heard from them again?
TRUJILLO
Pepe moved to Vera Cruz. He's got a
few farms now. Benito moved to
Guerrero. He's doing good.
I guess they figured, you're not
important anymore, so they left you
to rot in the cell.
EXT. DIRT ROAD
They get off the Main street and turn onto a small Dirt Road.
The car rocks up and down over the Potholes.
BACK IN THE CAR
Pimentel feels something under the seat. He frantically feels
around for the source.
TRUJILLO
How could he take over the whole
operation. We weren't even stealing
any piedra then?
PIMENTEL
What's Ranchero doing in Vera Cruz
now?
Trujillo opens a beer, while driving, and hands it to
Pimentel. He opens one for himself.
TRUJILLO
He came there back when the Police
caught that informant. Barely
escaped arrest. He stayed there
ever since.
PIMENTEL
Meng, that fuck is lucky. When the
cops came to his house, most of the
Piedra had been moves already. Had
they found that...meng.
TRUJILLO
I don't know, meng. They say he
paid the cops off. That's some
serious shit he was in. His family
left him because of it. He's got
nothing or nobody now.
Pimentel pulls his shirt, ventilates it. Trujillo stares at
him. It's getting hotter in the car.
PIMENTEL
Fucking still meng. They caught a
group of guys last month. The cops
confiscated Five Hundred and Seven
Tons of Piedra from a Freighter.
That fucking shit is unbelievable.
Supposedly they had good
connections, but not good enough.
One of them turns out to be this
Police Informant and another an
Undercover Cop. Gave them up right
away. When will we be there anyway?
TRUJILLO
In about Five minutes. Don't worry.
He's no cop or something.
PIMENTEL
Listen, when we get back i'm gonna
go and find some men. Mr. Martinez
is short on them. We need to spring
Pedro too. He'll be a big help.
TRUJILLO
I don't know. It's gonna be tough.
We don't have those kinds of
Connections in Michoacan. Durango
or Guerrero, yes.
Pimentel's window won't roll down. He tries to pry it open,
but to no avail.
PIMENTEL
Without Pedro, we're nothing. He
knows Safes and Banks better than
God himself. It's his life.
He tries to open the Door. It doesn't budge. Pimentel wails
on it with his shoulder. He tries the window again, and the
handle falls off.
PIMENTEL
Fuck it's hot in here. We need
something, cavron. Cause the Piedra
and the cars aren't gonna move
themselves. Something where there
are the fewest Cops and
Checkpoints.
TRUJILLO
I heard about some guy down at the
docks. He's selling his boat house
and two Boats. Two Thousand, Clean.
We can go and check it out.
Pimentel is wailing on the door. It doesn't budge.
PIMENTEL
What the hell is wrong with this
Window? Is he some kind of friend
of yours?
TRUJILLO
No, but...the waters are the safest
way now. No cop is gonna check the
whole fucking Gulf of Mexico.
They're gonna stay on the streets.
PIMENTEL
Shit! It's fucking hot. If this
shirt gets ruined...
In the Back, the dog has Disappeared somewhere. Hector is
