Haunted House trailer - nIGHT[] Complete blackness. Unseen KELLY, a shy brunette with glasses, heaves, panicked, breathes heavily. Her heels drag across a hardwood floor. Someone close snickers through hands covering a mouth. Kelly James, is that you? This isnt funny, I want out of here! The only visible light comes from a vague red blur in the distance. Kelly (CONTD) Okay, I can do this, I can do this. Just breath. The snickering continues as the red blur gets brighter, takes shape. It may be an exit sign. KeLLY (CONTD) The exit! Thank you! She begins to run. Her footfalls rush toward the glow of an exit sign, now obvious against the blackness. But as she approaches the red everything suddenly disappears into a powerful white light. No more blackness, no more red exit, no more footsteps - just the throbbing white. And her screaming. Kelly comes into focus, blinking, just as the sound of a heavy drill kicks on. She is stiff with fear, too afraid to turn and look behind her. A large figure looms at her back. This is JAMES, Kellys boyfriend, a frat house type of guy. James ITs GO TIME! James lifts the drill up to shoulder-height. Kelly OH MY GOD! Kelly runs for the exit ramp in a panic. James lets out a wolfish howl and chases after her. EXT. HaUNTED HOUSE trailer - nigHT[] Kelly runs out of a trailer-style haunted house down the 4 foot tall ramp, flailing wildly. JEN, a typical attractive blonde, and SARAH, Kellys sister, a female badass, in great shape but almost too muscular, await Kellys arrival and are in hysterics. James, now at the top of the ramp, is doubled over. As the laughter dies down James realizes how upset Kelly is. Furious, rather than simply crying. She crosses her arms. Kelly You think youre funny? You think that, was funny? You know what, youre such a prick. You talk me into going to one of these bullshit places and then you pull a stunt like that. You know how fucking scared I get! You know there is a reason I havent been to a haunted house in years - they scare me, you moron. I lose control, I cant breath. And you left me alone! Jen Cmon, Kelly, relax. It was just a joke. James Yeah, it was just a - Kelly Its not a joke to me, okay?! He knows I hate these things, that I have panic attacks when Im alone in the dark. James extends his arms to Kelly. James Baby, Im sorry, youre right. I wasnt thinking. Now come here. Jen now has her arm around Kelly. Jen Stop, okay? Go start the car, its freezing. James Fine. Ill be in the car. James walks away to his car. Jen Sorry for laughing, honey. You know we didnt mean it. KellY I know, I know. I just get so... I dont even know how to explain it. Sarah finally takes a step forward. Sarah Yeah, kid. Relax. Everything is fine. Lets get out of here. We can kick James in the nuts if you want. Lets just go drink this little incident away, pretty lady. The three of them start laughing as they walk toward the car idling in an almost empty parking lot. Int. Bar - nIGHT[] A standard 20-something hangout spot. Stools at the bar, a few tables, beer and liquor brand decorations on the walls. Loud rock music blasts from corner speakers. James, Kelly, Jen, and Sarah all raise shot glasses in the air, spilling some alcohol. Its apparent that theyve been drinking for a while. James Kel, I really am sorry about earlier. I had no idea you would react like that. The last thing I want in the world is to see you upset. I love you more than anything and you know that. KelLY You know I can never stay mad at you! Consider yourself forgiven. Jen and Sarah make jack-off motions with their hands. SaraH Okay, we get it love birds, enough! James Oh, Im sorry that our perfect chemistry is a little too much for you to handle. Wish ya had a soulmate, too, eh Sarah? They all laugh. 000200000F5400000F0CF4E,SaraH Sorry, but are you trying to make me vomit? Companionship isnt my thing. I dont need anybody to rely on. Im a much stronger person than that. James Yeah, yeah, lighten up woman. Im just messin with ya. SarAH So you guy, we really need to find something to do this weekend. Ive been bored as hell lately and I could use a little excitement. They nod in agreement. SaraH (CONTD) Im not talking about getting wasted and hooking up with some lucky loser, and Im sure as shit not talking about going to the zoo. Im thinking something a little more edgy, something on the edge of being dangerous. Jen And what, pray tell, do you have in mind? SaRAH To be perfectly honest Im not sure exactly. Just something different. Jen Wow, great plan Sarah! Such vision you have! SaraH Whatever, bitch. Im just saying, the same ole is getting lame. Jen Well, why dont you do some looking around and pondering - which youre obviously good at - and get back to us. SaRAH I will. And when I do prepare to be shocked and awed. They all laugh again. Kelly Ill believe it when I see it, sister. For now, lets focus on these! Kelly raises another shot in the air. Hours seem to pass in mere seconds, nearly the entire night, and all the while they sit and drink and toast each other. The group exits the bar at closing time. Int. James and kellys bedroom - dAY[] Apart from the messy bed, the room is immaculate. A cell phone rings repeatedly. Kelly groans, reaches for the phone, and angrily grabs it. Sarahs name is displayed. The digital alarm clock reads 8:30AM. KelLY What could possibly be so important you need to tell me that would cause you to call me at eight-thirty in the morning? SaraH (V.O.) An all-night tour of haunted houses, thats what! KELLY Wait, what? What the hell are you talking about, Sarah? Obviously I dont take well to haunted houses, if last night didnt clue you in a little bit. SaRAH (V.O.) No, no, no. Just hear me out. These are real haunted houses. Old houses supposedly haunted that havent been occupied in years. No people in costumes jumping out at you, no stupid scenes of deaths or skeletons, just empty houses with a scary history. KeLLY Are you kidding me? That sounds so stupid, especially this early. Sarah laughs. SaraH (V.O.) They send a guide out with you that takes you to each house and lets you know the history of each place and the nature of the paranormal activity. It sounds so fun. They give one person in your group a video camera to tape all of the footage and give you the tape for an extra ten bucks! KeLLY Okay, suppose I was interested in going, exactly how much is it? SARAH (V.O.) Thats the best part! Its only twenty dollars. Two houses for twenty isnt a bad deal in my book! Worst case scenario is it sucks and we lose next to nothing. KeLLY I dont know, Sarah. Its so early and my head is throbbing. Can I just wake up a little bit before I answer? James stretches in the bed, lying next to Kelly. JamES Who is that? Its eight oclock in the morning. KeLLY Hold on a second, Sarah. (to James) Its my sister. Ill tell you in a minute. James kisses her on the cheek and pulls the blanket over his head, groaning. KeLLY (CONTD) Okay, Im back. Let me gather myself, get ready, and Ill call you back and we can meet up or something. SaRAH (V.O.) Now thats the spirit. Talk to you in a bit! KeLLY Bye. Kelly hangs up. JaMES What the heck was that all about? KelLY Oh, my sister found some stupid thing somehow where a guide takes you to a couple of abandoned houses that are haunted for twenty bucks. I guess they give the group a camera so you can have footage of each house when youre done. James Wow, sounds pretty cool actually. Is it expensive? KeLLY She said its only twenty bucks, or thirty if you want the tape when youre done. JAMES Wow, thats really cheap. Think its something you would be into? 000200000F1300001E5AF0D,KeLLY I dont know. Maybe. As long as there are no idiots in costumes jumping out at me and its an actual house I might be interested. JamES Well, well just have to find out. Im sure one of us can call the company or whatever and get some information. KeLLY Yeah, we can do that. If its legit I guess it would be kind of interesting. Its not like I hate being scared. I just cant stand those stupid mall parking lot haunted houses. JamES Right, and if its anything like that we just wont go, sweetheart. No pranks this time, I promise. KeLLY Well, why dont we get a hold of Jen and Sarah and see if they want to meet up. We can have Sarah pick up a brochure or print something off their web site and bring it for us to check it out. James Im sure we can get together this afternoon. I have an even better idea: lets go back to sleep. Kelly laughs, lifts her phone up for James to see. KeLLY Right, and Ill turn this thing off. James turns Kelly around in a position to spoon. James (whispering) You know I love you, right? Kelly (sarcastic whispering) I know, I love you too. James kisses her beck and they both close their eyes. Int. Sarahs bedroom - dAY[] The room is fairly messy, clothes on the floor, general clutter. Some band posters are taped to the walls. Sarah sits on the floor in front of a mirror doing her makeup. When her phone rings she picks it up and answers it. SaRAH Hello? KeLLY (V.O.) Hey, its me. SaRAH Oh hey, finally awake, eh? KELLY (V.O.) After last night, barely. Sarah laughs. SaraH Right. Whats up? KeLLY (V.O.) You know that guided tour you were telling me about earlier? SaraH Wait, dont tell me you actually want to go! KELLY (V.O.) I didnt say that. I was just wondering if theres a web site or something where you can get all of the information on it, you know, make sure its not a scam. SaRAH Yeah, for sure. Theres a site with a section where you can print off all of the information and everything. KeLLY (V.O.) Cool. Well James and I were thinking about grabbing a drink if you want to come you can bring the info. Im not sure if Jen would be interested or not, but I can give her a call and ask. SaRAH I talked to Jen not too long ago and explained the whole thing to her and she is totally down. KeLLY (V.O.) Well can you do me a favor and see if she wants to meet up with the three of us and we can see whats up? SaRAH Yup, Im on it. KeLLY (V.O.) Okay, you want to meet up at The Drift in an hour or so? SaRAH Sounds good. Ill be there. KeLLY (V.O.) Alright, see ya then. Sarah hangs up her phone. She gets up and moves to her desk where she opens her laptop and starts typing. ExT. parking lot - dAY[] A car pulls into the cracked parking lot of The Drift, a dank hole-in-the-wall bar. The car parks and Sarah and Jen get out. Int. The drift - dAY[] The shabby interior of the bar matches its shabby exterior. The place is next to empty. Jen and Sarah walk in through the front door. Kelly and James are already seated. Each has a bottle of beer on the table. James motions to the table with one arm. James Over here, guys. Jen and Sarah walk to the table and sit down. The BARTENDER, an unattractive forty-plus-year old woman with terrible hygiene and who has probably chain smoked since birth, saunters over to the table with a lit cigarette in her mouth. Bartender What are yall havin? SarAH A couple of your finest, please. The Bartender chuckles. BarTENDER I got one brand thats still cold. Jen Ah yes, two of those, please. The Bartender leaves to procure the drinks. KeLLY So do you have something to show us? SaraH Sure do. Sarah slaps a piece of paper down in the middle of the table. SaRAH (CONTD) Everything you need to know is right there. The Bartender brings two bottles to the table and sets them down. BarTENDER Enjoy. She coughs and walks away. 000200000F2900002D67F23,SaraH Its pretty cut and dry. Twenty bucks per person. The tour is two houses that have had haunted activities reported. A guide takes you to each house and you meet him at the house in your car. JamES Thats pretty fuckin cheap! SaraH Right. So they give you the option to use one of their video cameras for one person in the group and give you a copy of the tape for only ten dollars more per person, also pretty fuckin cheap. Jen That is such a good deal. KeLLY Cant argue that. SaRAH I know, its sweet. They take you through each house for two hours. Before you go through each house they explain the history of the house and tell you some reports that theyve received about strange activities and whatnot. When youre done you get in your cars and go home. Simple as that. JamES So how often do they do this? KeLLY I was about to ask the same thing. SaRAH Every Saturday. They only take one group at a time, too, which is cool. They only allow five people in a group, and they only use one group per session. Jen Nice, so its not all uncomfortable with other people, or crowded and stuff. SaRAH Exactly. You guys, I think we should do this. What is there to lose? Thirty bucks? JamES Yeah, this seems like it would be awesome. SaRAH Kelly, youve said almost nothing this whole time. Not feeling it? KeLLY Its not that. Im just a little hesitant. You guys all know how I am. Jen But its not a spooky costume haunted house, Kelly. Just an empty house. Sarah pounds the table with her hands, chanting. SarAH Do it! Do it! Kelly laughs. James and Jen join in, chanting. Kelly looks embarrassed. KELLY You guys, cut it out! Okay, okay, Ill go. Damn. The three cheer. SaRAH Now thats what Im talking about! KELLY Seriously, though, if any of you guys pull any stunts to scare me I will be beyond angry. JamES Dont worry, none of us will do anything. Right, guys? The three nod in agreement. SaRAH Plus, if you back out well just start chanting again. KELLY Noooo thank you. Had enough of that. Jen So its settled? Were going? SaRAH Oh, were going! Sarah high-fives everyone. Kelly rolls her eyes and gives a reluctant high-five. SaRAH (CONTD) Okay people, pony up the dough. I want ninety bucks on top of my thirty on the table now. Everyone got enough of em? They all begin to look through their purses and wallets. Random bills pile onto the table. Sarah counts the money. SaRAH (CONTD) Okay, its all here. Ill go find this place and set the date. Can everyone get off work two Saturdays from now? Everyone nods. JAMES We need to get going, but well get a hold of you guys later. SarAH Yeah, me too. Well go handle all of that stuff. They all get up from the table and begin to walk to the door. SarAH (CONTD) Thanks for the best of house! The bartender lights a cigarette. BarTENDER Have a good afternoon. They exit the bar. Ext. PARKING LOT - dAY[] The group splits into two cars. Both vehicles drive out of the lot. Int. White room - niGHT[] A bare room with white walls and a rocking chair. A hanging bulb in the center of the space provides the only dim light. Kelly is in a large dog cage. Her clothes are ripped and she is groggy, just regaining consciousness. Her hair is heavy and wet. She is bleeding from the mouth and hands. A WOMAN in a mans suit stands motionless in a doorway behind the cage. Kelly begins to breath heavily and frantically searches the cage walls with her hands hoping to find a way out. The woman slowly walks from the doorway and passes in front of the cage, her heels clicking on the floor. She sits in the chair and begins to rock back and forth, back and forth, giggling. KeLLY What is this? Who are you? The woman continues to rock, still giggling. KeLLY (CONTD) Hello? What do you want from me? Hey! Let me out of here! Kelly violently shakes the front of the cage. 000200000F8300003C8AF7D,The rocking stops. The woman stands and walks to the rear of the cage, out of Kellys eyesight; the cage is too small for her to turn around. There is the hiss of a small torch being lit. Woman Were gonna be good friends, you and me. Im gonna get to know you inside and out. KeLLY Let me the fuck out of here! What are you doing? The woman walks back to the front of the cage where she sits down on the floor and stares at Kelly. She folds her legs, Indian-style. She slowly waves the torch back and forth, taunting Kelly, giggling. The woman sets the lit can on the floor, stands up, and again walks to the rear of the cage. WomAN Eenie, meanie, miney, mo. Kelly desperately searches the cage with her hands, clawing to find a way out. The woman returns to the front of the cage, now holding a drill. She pulls the trigger and watches the bit spin then lifts it up to her own face and smiles behind it. Kelly begins to scream. KeLLY Please, please, no, let me out! Again the woman returns to the rear of the cage. WOMAN Perfect! I found one, honey! Dont worry, Ill still let you pick. Kelly tries to look at the woman behind her. KeLLY What the hell are you talking about? The woman walks to the front of the cage, this time holding hedge clippers. She starts to undress, taking off her suit coat and dress shirt. She neatly folds them, sets them next to the wall, and steps toward the cage. KeLLY (CONTD) What are you doing? Please - WomAN Cant get my good clothes all dirty now, can I? The three items are now on the floor in front of the cage. With a theatrical wave of an arm the woman offers Kelly a glimpse of the displayed items. WOMAN (CONTD) Listen. Im going to open the door and let you out. You choose the weapon, and then we can play. KeLLY Just let me out! WoMAN Okay, but you be a good girl now. The woman crawls seductively on her hands and knees, slinking toward the cage. She unlocks the door. WomAN (CONTD) (whispering) Make your move, Kelly. Cut to black: The scream of a drill bit spinning to life. Int. jaMES AND KELLYS BEDROOM - dAY[] Kelly bolts upright in bed. She is covered in sweat and panting. KeLLY Holy shit. She closes and eyes and tries to calm her breathing. Int. James and kellys kitchen - dAY[] Kelly walks into the kitchen and grabs a bottle of water out of the refrigerator. She takes a long drink. She sits in a chair pulled up to the kitchen table and leans forward on her elbows, her face pushed against her open palms. James steps in through the front door. JaMES Hey, sweetheart. Whats up? KeLLY Nothing. I just had the craziest dream ever. JamES Really? What was it? James sits at the table next to Kelly. KeLLY Well, I was in this dog cage or something in this empty room. There was this lady with all of these tools or something. She kept taunting me and laughing. I thought she was going to attack me but she just opened the cage and then I woke up. It was really strange. JamES Wow, that sounds intense. KeLLY Tell me about it. I woke up all sweaty and freaked out. JaMES Are you okay? KeLLY Yeah, Im fine now. It was just a dream. JamES Right. Theres no point in getting all freaked out over that. KeLLY James, listen. Im not sure I want to go tonight. JaMES What? Why not? Everyone has already paid and everything. KeLLY Yeah, but I have a bad feeling about this whole thing. JaMES Seriously, what could go wrong? They do these tours all of the time and nobody ever gets hurt. I really doubt we would be the first people to have a problem like that. Besides, we cant back out at the last minute. Jen and Sara would be so pissed. I know I would be mad as Hell if they backed out now. Kelly stares at James, her eyebrows furrowed. James (CONTD) Kelly, nothing is going to happen. Its just a couple of abandoned houses that make some creepy noises or something. Nothing can go wrong. You really think that your tough boyfriend would let something happen to you? 0002000010CE00004C0710C7,James puts his arm around Kelly. She laughs. KeLLY No, I know youll protect me. They both laugh. James Then you are still okay to go? KeLLY Yeah, Im in. If anything happens out of the ordinary, though, I want to leave. Deal? James Deal. Its going to be awesome! Int. JamES AND KELLYS foyer - night[] James and Kelly stand at the front door wearing jackets, appearing anxious. A set of keys jingles in Jamess hand. He methodically glances out of the window. JamES Where the hell are they? I dont want to be late for this. KeLLY Relax, theyre on their way. Sarah mentioned something about it only being a few minutes away. JamES I know, I just dont want the guide to leave. KeLLY She said shed be here any second when I talked to her. A horn honks outside. KelLY (CONTD) See? I told you. Kelly playfully slaps Jamess arm. JamES Yeah, yeah. Ext. jaMES AND KELLYS Apartment - nIGHT[] James and Kelly exit the front door. James tries to turn the knob, checking the lock. They walk toward Sarahs car. Int. SaraHS car - nIGHT[] James and Kelly get into the car through opposite rear doors. Sarah is behind the wheel; Jen rides shotgun. James Took you long enough. Sarah begins to drive. SaraH Shut up, James. This place is in Wyandotte. No joke, its less than five minutes away. KeLLY Thats odd. You think we would have heard about this before you stumbled onto their web site. SaRAH Well, Im not sure how legal it is to go romping around through abandoned houses. Im sure theyre not posting up flyers. JaMES Thats a good point. As long as its legit Im happy. KeLLY Oh, its legit. There were a ton of testimonials. JamES Sweet. I am so pumped right now. Jen Im pretty sure we all are. This is going to be awesome. SarAH What about you, miss stick-in-the-mud? KeLLY Im kind of excited. Im a little nervous, too. Jen Youre always a little nervous. KeLLY Shut up. Im fine. JeN Speaking of fine... Jen waves a joint in the air. SaraH Put that shit away, Jen. James Yeah, I dont think were going to need that. Jen I just thought itd be cool to be a little high for this thing. SaraH Trust me on this, itll probably be a lot better without it. You dont need to be high or have weed on you while were trespassing. Jen Fine, damn. Jen rolls down the window and tosses the joint out of the car. SarAH Oh hey, this must be it. Theres a white car in the driveway and the address matches. The guide said hed be driving that. James Sweet. Just pull in next to him. SARAH Ya think? Sarah steers the car into position next to the white car and parks. Ext. first House - nIGHT[] James, Kelly, Jen, and Sarah exit their respective car doors and stand in the driveway staring up at the house. Its two-storied, very weathered, clearly abandoned. TOM, in his late-thirties, the suspected tour guide, exits his cars drivers side door. Tom Hey there. Hows everybody doing? James Hows it going? Are you our guide? Tom Sure am. The names Tom. Tom reaches out a hand and shakes with James. Tom (CONTD) Okay, guys, heres how this works. Ill tell you the history of each house, give you the camera, and just leave you on your way. You have two hours in this first house, and another two hours in the next house. SaRAH Where exactly is this next house? Tom points to the house next door. Tom Right there, honey. JamES Wait, youre telling me that the second house is right next door? Seems a little convenient. Tom Hold your horses. Let me give you a brief history of this place and itll make sense. Jen Okay, the floor is yours. Tom Thank you. Back in the early 60s this first house was kind of a commune for the whole hippie movement. People just hung around doing all sorts of drugs, sleeping with just about anything, playing music, and so on. There person who owned the house was a man by the name of Jesse Hawkins. Jesse was kind of the Manson type. He always had views and beliefs that he was desperate for people to believe. Things like every friend is an enemy, every enemy is a lover, just weird stuff. Most of the people who stayed here have said that it was just a way for him to be able to sleep with just about anyone, but pit everyone against each other. He would create lies and try to get people to scrap any chance he could. 000200000F4700005CCEF41,KeLLY Why would he do that? Tom Control, darling. Anyway, people started figuring this out and started thinking that Jesse was a tad bit crazy and possibly dangerous. A group wanted to leave, but really had no place to go. Tom motions to the house next door. KeLLY So they decided to move next door? Tom Exactly. You see, this house over here has been abandoned for longer than you've been alive. So yes, all of the residents picked up and moved in next door. This left Jesse to his own devices. He would try and interact with the others but they would snub him day after day. People say Jesse started getting crazier with every moment he spent in solitude. Supposedly he would spend a large part of the day on the front lawn begging for them to come back, then cursing at them. James Jesus, what a weirdo. Tom As months went by Jesse was bone thin and looking crazier than ever. So one night he crept over next door and while everyone in the house was sleeping he went by strangling and cutting the throats of all of the residents. He killed eleven people in the span of fifteen minutes. When he was done with his handy work he came back to his own house and hung himself in the living room. Jen Holy shit, that is crazy. SaRAH No fuckin way. Why wasnt any of this in the news? Tom Think about it: a bunch of dead hippie squatters that nobody cared about? This is right around the whole Helter Skelter days, so that overshadowed just about anything going on in the country. JaMES Right. Makes sense. Tom Well, that's your story, guys. I'm not going to get into what you may or may not see or hear; all of that is in our testimonials. I'll leave that up to your own eyes and ears. Tom opens the trunk of his car and retrieves a video camera and a few flashlights. Tom (CONTD) Here you go, guys. Your time starts in just five minutes. I suggest that you figure out who gets the camera quickly. KeLLY Where will you be? Tom Don't worry about that. I don't even know. All I know is that I'll be back in two hours and I expect you guys to be outside waiting for me. Tom climbs into his car and rolls down the drivers side window. TOM (CONTD) Now you guys have fun. And remember: two hours. JamES Alright. Thanks, man. Toms car pulls out of the driveway and drives away. JamES (CONTD) Okay, Im going to assume that you dont want the camera, right? KeLLY For sure. My hands wont be steady. JamES Sarah? Jen? Jen Im good. I want to concentrate more on sounds and stuff. SaRAH It really doesnt matter to me. Im just pumped to be here. JamES So you guys dont mind if I use this thing? SARAH By all means. JamES Sweet. You all ready to head in? SaRAH Hell yeah. Lets hit it. The group approaches the houses front door. Kelly stays very close to Jamess side. JameS Okay, here we go. James turns on the video camera, turns the knob, and slowly pushes open the door. Int. first house - first floor - main room - nIGHT[] Dust and darkness and echoing emptiness. Not much can be seen save for the hardwood floors stretching into the nothing. JamES Turn on your flashlights; I can barely see anything. All turn on their flashlights. SaRAH Its completely empty. For some reason I expected some form of furniture or something. JamES Yeah, because a lot of vacant houses have furniture. Maybe theres some food in the refrigerator, too. SARAH Fuck off. They walk slowly through the living area connected to front entrance. There is a staircase leading up into blackness and a hallway leading further into blackness. JamES So should we split up? KeLLY I think we should stay together. SaRAH Lets just check it out in groups. You and Kelly, Jen and me. Sound good? Its not like we can get lost. Its not a mansion or anything. KeLLY Yeah, thats okay. Jen Sounds good. JamES Well scope out the upstairs. SaRAH Fine by me. Sarah and Jen continue to walk to the hallway. 000200000F3700006C0FF31,Kelly follows James to the stairway and they slowly begin to climb. A stair creeks with every footstep. KeLLY Are you sure this is safe? JamES Its fine, its fine. Just stay with me. Int. first house - second floor - Hallway - nIGHT[] At the top of the staircase is a stretching hallway, closed doors on either side. JamES Lets just go from room to room. KeLLY Okay. Int. first house - second floor - Bedroom - nIGHT[] More emptiness. There are no windows in the room but there is a closed closet door on one side. The walls are covered in scribbled words. James What the hell is all of this writing? He points his flashlight to one of the walls and steps closer to it. Written over and over again: Alone and fine, fine and alone. The closet door squeaks open and footsteps rush around them. JamES (CONTD) Oh fuck! Did you hear that? KeLLY I heard footsteps. With their backs now against the wall they point their flashlight beams to the doorway leading to the hall. James Was that closet door open when we came in here? KELLY I dont think so. JAMES Me neither. What footsteps? KeLLY Sounded like somebody ran out of the room. James I didnt hear anything but the closet door. Im gonna to check it out. James slowly walks toward the closet, his flashlight beaming from closet to the doorway. KeLLY Be careful. Kelly inches behind him. JamES Its fine. Probably Sarah and Jen fucking with us, or a cat or something. James and Kelly stand with flashlights pointing into the open closet, unaware of the outline of a figure visible in the doorway, his back against the wall of the opposite room. KeLLY Sarah? Jen? James cranes his neck into the closet and hoists the camera in for a closer look. The closet is completely empty. JAMES Theres nothing in here. The outline of the figure has disappeared. KeLLY That was freaky. You really didnt hear the footsteps running? JaMES No, not at all. Just thought I heard the closet door opening. Lets check out another room. Int. first house - first floor - Kitchen - nIGHT[] Sarah and Jen enter the dark room preceded by flashlight beams. SARAH I think were in the kitchen. JeN Yeah, it looks like a kitchen. SARAH Ive only been in this house a little while and Im already getting a creepy feeling. A CREEK startles them both and they turn quickly to the sound. Their lights settle upon a sink and the cupboard beneath it. Jen Whoa. Did you hear that? Jen grabs Sarahs shoulder. SaRAH Yeah, I heard it. Get your hand off of me, you big baby. JAMES Shut up. Jen lets her hand slip from Sarahs shoulder. They slowly move toward the sink. Another CREEK. Jen jumps and takes a step backward. SaRAH I think it came from the cupboard. Jen It did. For sure. Sarah kneels in front of the cupboard. The outlined figure appears in the window but Sarah and Jen are too focused on the cupboard to notice. JeN (CONTD) Youre not actually going to open that, are you? SARAH Yeah, Im actually going to open it. Sarah reaches for the handle of the cupboard door and opens it. She jolts backward when a few rats begin to scurry from the flashlights. SaRAH (CONTD) Gross! Rats! I hate these things! Sarah slams shut the cupboard door and rises to her feet. The outlined figure no longer appears in the window. Jen Thats what you get for opening it. SaRAH Whatever. You know what? I think this place is seriously lame. The story is cool and everything, but theres nothing too scary about this place. Jen Yeah, this is pretty stupid. So far the scariest thing was some rats. SARAH Im kind of over it to be honest with you. Think Im just going to come back for the second house. Jen The other house is where everybody was killed. I bet its a lot better. SARAH I guarantee its way scarier. JeN Im hungry. Lets go and grab something to eat and come back. SARAH Okay. Lets tell James and Kelly were taking off. 000200000F5C00007B40F56,Int. first house - first floor - Main room - niGHT[] Sarah and Jen stroll through the room, no longer afraid in the darkness. They stop at the base of the staircase. SARAH (yelling) Hey guys! Were going to take off and come back. This is kind of boring. Nothing in this part of the house is any good. Were going to grab a bite to eat. Well be back for the second place. Int. first house - second floor - bedRoom - nIGHT[] James and Kelly, exploring another empty room upstairs, hear the call from the main floor. JamES (yelling) Youre leaving? Seriously? SarAH (o.S.) Yeah, were just not feeling it. Well be back in a little while, though. JaMES (yelling) Have it your way. If we end up hacked to pieces dont feel too guilty. Brief silence. James (CONTD) Im kind of surprised they wanted to leave. KeLLY Shut up, James. JAMES Im just messing around. Int. first house - first floor - Main room - nIGHT[] Sarah and Jen walk to the front door. SaRAH (yelling) Ill try not to. See you in a bit. They exit and close to door behind them. The outlined figure standing in the kitchen doorway is no longer just an outline. Its a MAN of average build, wearing a white long-sleeved dress shirt, black slacks with a black belt, and black dress shoes. Man slowly moves his hand to his crotch and begins to masturbate, grinning like a devil. Int. first house - second floor - HallWAY - nIGHT[] James and Kelly study the walls with their flashlights, making their way down the length of the hall. JaMES Want to check out the bathroom? KELLY Yeah, but you go in first. James walks into the bathroom; Kelly follows closely behind. Int. first house - first floor - Main room - nIGHT[] Man quietly walks to the base of the staircase and looks up, listening. He begins to climb the stairs slowly, silently. Int. first house - second floor - Bathroom - nIGHT[] A small space and the barest amenities: sink, toilet, bathtub, and shower curtain. All are dirty but the shower curtain is especially filthy, covered in mold. KeLLY Sick. That shower curtain is disgusting. JeN Well, yeah, think about how long its been here. KeLLY Im so glad that toilet seat is down. James pulls back the shower curtain, fully exposing the dirty bathtub. JaMES Wow. The bathtub is really fucking gross, too. KeLLY Oh my God! That is nasty. Man stands in the bathroom doorway, smiling, unnoticed by James and Kelly. Int. first house - second floor - Hallway - nIGHT[] Man backpedals to the staircase and takes a few steps down. He lies on his stomach, pulls a knife out of his breast pocket, and loudly scrapes the tip against the step. He quickly crawls backward down the stairs not making another sound. Int. first house - second floor - BatHROOM - nIGHT[] Kelly spins around and points her flashlight into the hallway. KeLLY What was that? Kelly grabs onto Jamess arm. Her flashlight beam, still pointed at the hallway, shakes. JaMES I dont know, but I definitely heard something. Could be a house sound. James takes a step forward. KeLLY Wait. Dont leave me in here by myself. JAMES Im not. Just stay behind me, just in case. James steps out into the hallway with Kelly close behind. Int. first house - second floor - hallway - nIGHT[] Theres no movement other than the shaky light beams. JamES Theres nothing out here. Its empty just like the rest of the house. KeLLY Youre probably right about the house sounds. Theres nothing in here. JamES Aside from being just a little creepy, this is kind of a rip off. KeLLY Even Im not too scared. I think we should just check out some of the downstairs and then wait for Jen and Sarah. JaMES Thats fine by me. Lets head downstairs and see what its like. James and Kelly head to the top of the staircase and begin to walk down. JAMES (O.S.) (CONTD) Lets check out the living room. KeLLY (O.S.) Okay, thats fine. Int. first house - first floor - Living room - nIGHT[] 000200000F3100008A96F2B,Nearly as empty as every other room in the house. Boards cover the glassless windows. A small battered kitchen table is pushed up against the wall. A single chair waits at the table and it is turned to face the wall. James and Kelly step into the room, shining flashlights. JamES Nothing in here either, apparently, other than that table. KeLLY Lets check it out. It might have weird writing on it like the walls upstairs did. They walk to the table and light the top. On it is the black-marker tracing of a pair of hands. JamES Thats weird. I dont see the point of it. KeLLY Yeah, maybe somebody was just bored or something, or thought itd be funny. JaMES Again, other than this, theres not much going on in here. KeLLY Yeah, I know. I kind of hope the second house is better. I never thought I would want to be creeped out. James smiles. JAMES No kidding. Hey, lets go check out the kitchen. If its lame well just head outside and wait for the guide. KeLLY That works for me. They exit the room. Int. first house - first floor - Kitchen - nIGHT[] Still and silent and empty as before. James and Kelly study the floor, walls, counter top. JamES Okay. We have a sink. Marvelous. James walks to the sink and examines it. JamES (CONTD) Theres something in the drain. KeLLY What is it? JAMES I cant really tell. Let me grab it out. KeLLY Really? Gross, James. Dont. JAMES Im a guy, Kelly. Its not a big deal. KeLLY Alright Macho Man, go for it. I still think its gross, though. James sticks a finger into the drain and attempts to pry out the object. JaMES I almost have it. Its a stick or something. James continues to struggle with the object until it comes loose. He raises the object close to his face and inspects it. JamES (CONTD) Oh, man. I think its a finger. KeLLY A finger? Like a human finger? JamES Yeah, the bone or one. Thats what it looks like it. KeLLY Then put it down! Sick! JamES Relax. James places the object in the sink. KeLLY How the hell did that get in there? JamES How should I know? Probably from a crack head or something. The SLAM of the front door echoes through the house. KeLLY I think theyre back. James and Kelly are motionless, waiting for movement. Kelly (CONTD) (yelling) Sarah? No response other than silence. James (yelling) Jen? Is that you guys? Still no response. KeLLY Thats really weird. Lets get out of here. You go in front of me, just in case. JamES Lets go then. Int. first house - first floor - Main room - nIGHT[] James leads Kelly through the darkness. Both step forward flashing their lights back and forth across the room, searching. When they reach the front door James opens it. They both take final looks around the room and then exit the house, pulling the door closed. Ext. first house - nIGHT[] As James and Kelly emerge from the house, Sarahs car pulls into the driveway. Tom waits in the drivers seat of his parked car. Sarahs car comes to a stop, parks. She and Jen climb out. When he sees all four of them coming together, Tom exits his car. James and Kelly walk toward the others to form a group. Tom So what did you guys think? SaRAH Other than seeing some rats it was kind of boring. JamES We heard some noises and stuff like that, but nothing too big. It was a little creepy, though. Tom I hear this every time. Trust me, the next house is a lot better. Jen I sure hope so. Tom Just trust me. I promise you it will be ten times scarier than the last. Ill meet you guys in a little while when youre done. I already opened the house, so shes all yours. JamES So we can just go in whenever? Tom Yep. Just remember: two hours, guys. KeLLY Sounds good. Tom Alright. Ill be back in a couple of hours to finish up. SARAH See ya later. Jen See ya. Tom gets into his car and backs out of the driveway, pulling away. JamES So you guys didnt really dig it? 000200000F59000099C1F53,SARAH So far I feel like Ive wasted my money. JamES I mean, its not terrifying or anything, but I think it was okay. I found a finger in the kitchen sink. Jen What? A finger? JamES Like the bone of a human finger. Jen Thats crazy. And nasty. SaRAH Guys, Im ready to hit up this other house. I really hope its a lot scarier. Ill be pissed if it isnt. JamES Well, lets head in. Im ready when everyone else is. KeLLY Yep, lets go. The group begins to walk to the second house. JamES Are all of the flashlights still working? Each examines a flashlight. Jen Mines good. KeLLY Same here. SARAH Yup. Good to go. They pause at the front door, looking at each other. JamES Here we go again. James pushes open the front door and steps inside. They all follow. Int. second house - first floor - living room - nIGHT[] The front door opens into the main room. On the far side is a doorway into another large room. To the left is a hallway that stretches further into the house. In the center of the room is a worn couch. The head and upper torso of a body rise above the top of the couch, all facing away from the front entrance. Nothing moves. JamES Whoa, hold on, guys. Theres someone in here. James takes a step toward the couch. James (CONTD) Excuse me? Hey man, are you here for the tour? There is no response. JAMES (CONTD) Hey, dude? What are you doing? Still no response. James (CONTD) (whispers) Wait at the door. This guy might be on something. James slowly approaches the back of the couch. JamES (CONTD) Buddy, are you awake? He steps closer. James (CONTD) Wake up, dude. James reaches for the shoulder of the body and gently shakes it. The body slides from its upright position and comes to rest flat on the couch. In his flashlight beam James catches the painted face and frame of a mannequin. The mannequins torso is sliced down the middle and split open, similar to an autopsy. Lodged inside the torso is a baby doll. The mannequins eyes have been removed and a giant smile has been smeared onto its face. James (CONTD) Jesus Christ. Hey guys, come in here. Its just a mannequin. A really fucked up looking mannequin. Sarah, Jen, and finally Kelly fully enter the house and walk toward the couch. They all stare at the mannequin. KeLLY Oh my God. That is so scary-looking. SARAH Whoa, that is nuts! Jen I think this house has already trumped the other house. JamES Im just wondering if the company put this in here or just some kids playing a joke or something. SARAH Either way its still freaky as Hell. KeLLY I agree. That is way freaky. James surveys the room, wandering the perimeter, flashing his light from ceiling to floor. JamES So you guys want to split up again? Maybe this time in different groups? KeLLY Im fine with that. Sarah, mind if I go with you? SARAH Sure, it doesnt matter to me. JamES You cool with going with me, Jen? Jen Yep, that works. SARAH Okay, lets go check it out. Well see you guys in a little bit. Kelly and Sarah disappear into the dark hallway. Jen Okay, so I guess its the two of us. JamES I guess we should just go the opposite way that they went. Jen Yeah. Lets just go through this doorway and see what we find. Jen and James exit through the doorway on the far side of the room. Int. second house - second floor - bedroom - nIGHT[] A square room, dark and dusty. A bare cot is pushed against the wall: no pillow, no mattress, no sheets. A large tarp is spread beneath the frame. Sarah and Kelly walk into the room. KeLLY I thought these houses were supposed to be empty. SARAH I thought that, too. Im wondering if the company added this stuff to scare people. Could be squatters. KeLLY It is pretty freaky, so its working. A small hole is bored through the wall near the cot. Mans pov Sarah and Kelly step closer to the cot. Through the peephole he watches their approach and sniffs deeply as they come near. 000200000F810000A914F7B,Back to scene Kelly slides her hand along the wires and bars of the cot. Her arm grazes the small hole in the wall. As it does a tongue darts through the hole and licks her skin. Kelly leaps back, alarmed. KeLLY (CONTD) What the fuck? Sarah braces, flashing her light from the wall to Kelly. SARAH God damn! What? KeLLY Something just licked my arm! SARAH What? No way. KeLLY Im serious! Something just licked me! SaRAH Theres nothing there but a wall. KeLLY What about that little hole? Kelly points her light at the small hole. SarAH That hole is super small. Besides, nothing licked you. KeLLY No, Sarah. Something did lick me. SaRAH Lets pretend that something did. Its over now, nothing has happened. Just relax and lets keep checking this stuff out. KeLLY Fine, but Im really starting to feel uncomfortable. SARAH Dont worry. Everything is fine. Int. second house - first floor - Dining room - nIGHT[] Crumpled papers and a few plastic bags litter the floor. No dining table but two matching battered wooden chairs; one tipped onto its side, one standing upright. James and Jen enter the room. Jen walks to the chair standing upright and notices a scrap of paper lying on its seat. She picks it up and reads the written words aloud. Jen Welcome. Make yourselves comfortable. For now. JamES What? Jen offers the scrap of paper to James. Jen Read this. James takes the scrap of paper and reads aloud. JamES Welcome. Make yourselves comfortable. For now. Wow. The company must be trying to step it up a notch. They probably get a lot of complaints from the first place. James crumbles the paper and tosses it onto the floor. JaMES (CONTD) Listen, I think we should split up, too. Itd be scarier by ourselves and we could cover more ground. Jen I have no problem with that. This isnt too scary, really. Ill hang out in here for a minute and let you get ahead of me. JaMES Cool. Ill catch up with you in a while. Jen Okay. See ya then. James exits the room. Jen sits on the chair and bends down to pick up the crumpled note from the floor. She sits up straight and stares into the paper, completely unaware of Man now standing a few feet behind her. He walks toward her slowly, silently, stretching his arms out in front of him. He holds a large plastic bag. He stops directly behind the chair, arms raised above Jens head. Man (whispering) Welcome. Before she can react Man wraps the plastic bag around her head, around her face, choking off her air supply. Jen rips at the plastic covering her mouth, clawing at Mans tight grasp. Her feet kick violently against the floor. Man pulls her from chair and throws her to the ground. He climbs onto her, clenching his legs around her torso, keeping the plastic taut around her face. Jen struggles, bucking wildly, and begins to kick free. Man loses his grip on the plastic and wraps one arm around Jens neck, strangling her. With the other hand he swings at her face, connecting several times. With the plastic bag loose but still covering her face Jen fades, struggling less. Man (CONTD) Now thats a good girl. Sleep for me. He allows her head to hang to the side and he kisses her mouth through the plastic now smeared with blood. Jen lies still. Man climbs to his feet and stares at the motionless body. Man (CONTD) What a good girl you are. He grabs her feet and drags her body through the room and exits. Int. second house - Basement - nIGHT[] A very cramped space. Against one wall is a tool bench adorned with hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, knives, etc. At the other end is base the staircase. James handles one of the screwdrivers, turning it in his light. There is a sudden THUD above his head. He points his beam at the ceiling for a moment, then again at the tool bench. JAMES Why is all of this stuff still down here? He replaces the screwdriver and picks up a saw. The blade is stained with a brown substance, seemingly dried oil or blood. 000200000F290000B88FF23,James returns the saw and explores the small room. A pair of handcuffs are attached to chains bolted to one wall. James (CONTD) They really outdid themselves down here. Above his head there is a heavy DRAGGING sound, continuous, traveling. JamES (CONTD) What the hell is all that noise? Cant be someone walking. James walks to the staircase and takes a few steps up. The basement door swings open. JamES (CONTD) Jen? Man stands at the top of the staircase. He throws Jens body down onto James before he can dodge it. James tumbles backward down the stairs and lands next to Jens body on the floor. He now bleeds from the head and squints, obviously disoriented. Man climbs down the stairs and stands above James, studying him. Without a word he walks to the tool bench and picks up a hammer. JamES (CONTD) Wait... what... Man returns to where James is sprawled on the floor. Man Good night. See you in a little while. He strikes James across the face with the side of the hammer. James slumps into unconsciousness. Man pulls James by his arms to the handcuffs bolted to the wall. He leans James against the wall and cuffs each hand. A ball gag is shoved into Jamess mouth; the tie strap is made of barbed wire. Man drags Jens body and positions it next to James, assembling the two in a makeshift cuddle. Man stands in front of the two bodies and begins to masturbate, breathing heavily through clenched teeth. Int. second house - second floor - bedroom - niGHT[] Sarah and Kelly are inspecting another bedroom, sifting through dust and trash. There is a THUD below their feet. KeLLY What was that? SARAH I dont know. Probably just James and Jen messing around downstairs. They dont seem to be phased by these places. KeLLY It sounded like someone fell down really hard. SARAH I doubt it. One of them would have yelled for us already. KeLLY Good point. SaRAH So I think there is one more room up here. Want to check it out? KELLY I suppose one or two more rooms wouldnt kill me. SARAH Thats what Im saying. Sarah exits the room; Kelly follows. Int. second house - Basement - nIGHT[] James is motionless against the wall but begins to blink his eyes, regaining consciousness. He looks down and sees Jens body wrapped around his. He screams angrily through the ball gag at Man watching him struggle. Man simply laughs. Man Whats the matter? Are you stuck? James bucks and kicks his legs until Jens body slips from his. Man (CONTD) Now thats just impolite. You two were having such a nice date. James continues to scream at Man through the gag. Man pulls a knife from his belt and holds the blade very close to one of Jamess eyes. James stops squirming and carefully tilts his face away from the blade, wincing and blinking. Man (CONTD) Listen. I need you to be very quiet or my hand is going to get very unsteady. You dont want to lose one of those eyes, do ya? James sits still and remains quiet. Man (CONTD) There we go. Thats not so bad, is it? Im just having fun. For now. James slowly readjusts his feet, pulling them closer to his body. Man (CONTD) I can see that youre having trouble keeping your feet still. I can help you with that. Just give me one moment. Man walks to the tool bench. He picks up the sledgehammer standing upright on the floor. In a fluid movement he hoists the sledgehammer and rushes toward James. James begins to scream through the gag again, shaking his head back and forth, panicked. Man slams the sledgehammer down onto Jamess right foot. James screams in agony behind the gag. His eyes close and he leans his head against the wall. Man hoists the sledgehammer and slams it down onto Jamess left foot. James screams again. His chin drops to his chest rapidly heaving up and down. Man (CONTD) Now if you will excuse me, Im heading back upstairs to play with our little girlfriends. 000200000F4C0000C7B2F46,James tenderly jerks his shoulder in response but doesnt continue to struggle. He is crushed and can only let out a stifled grunt in protest. Man returns the sledgehammer to its place and ascends the staircase. Int. second house - second floor - Hallway - nIGHT[] Sarah and Kelly step slowly through the hallway. KeLLY Hey, I think Im going to head downstairs and see what that noise was. SaraH Why dont you let me. God forbid its some bum or something. The last thing I need is you freaking out. KeLLY Why would I freak out? SaRAH Why wouldnt you freak out? Just let me check it out. As your older sister I overrule you. KeLLY Oh, so its that now? SARAH Yes, its that now. Just give me a minute down there. Ill be right back. KeLLY What should I do up here? SARAH I dont know. Look around in the other room and let me know what you find. Im only gonna be a minute or two. KeLLY Okay. I think Ill just wait. SARAH Okay. See you in a second. Ill probably come back with James and Jen, too. Sarah descends the staircase. Int. second house - first floor - LiVING ROOM - nIGHT[] Sarah emerges from the staircase, pointing her flashlight around the room, seeing no one. SaRAH James? Jen? She waits a moment for a response but hears nothing. SarAH (CONTD) Where are you guys? She passes through the room, walking through the doorway. Int. second house - first floor - Kitchen - nIGHT[] Piles of dirty dishes clutter the counters and the sink. An old refrigerator stands against one wall. Sarah steps lightly through the room, scanning the surroundings. The shadowy figure of Man steps silently into the room. He follows cautiously but begins to outpace her. SarAH Guys? Are you down here? There is a muffled GRUNT from the basement. Sarah turns to trace to the noise and stands face to face with Man. He grabs the back of her head and slams her face against the wall. She falls to the ground and spits out a mouthful of blood. Man bends down to grab her legs but Sarah struggles free and kicks his face. Man snaps backward and smiles. He spits blood into Sarahs face and hair. Man That was a bad idea, bitch. Man smashes his heel onto Sarahs head. She crumples into a loose ball and he kicks her several times until she lies still. Sarah coughs and gasps and tries to breath through a bloody mouth. Man grabs Sarahs legs and drags her body through the basement doorway down the flight of steps. Int. second house - second floor - Hallway - nIGHT[] Kelly fidgets with her flashlight, clearly restless. KeLLY Hey Sarah, did you find them? Sarah, are you still down there? Kelly shines the light to one end of the hallway and then the other. KeLLY (CONTD) Hey guys? Are you messing with me again? She walks to the top of the staircase and shines the light down the steps. KeLLY (CONTD) Come on! She hesitates for a brief moment, listening. KeLLY (CONTD) Alright, guys, Im coming down! Kelly descends the staircase. Int. second house - Basement - nIGHT[] Man has managed to drag Sarah to the basement floor. He leaves her body near James and walks to the tool bench. Man Apparently your friend here didnt want to play with me. I tried to play nice but she wouldnt have it. Man picks up a glove and crams it into Sarahs mouth. He then ties a rope around her mouth securing the glove in its position. Sarahs head rolls around her neck but she is conscious, somewhat coherent. She sees James cuffed to the wall and Jens bloody body partially wrapped in plastic. Very slowly she tries to rise to her feet. Man (CONTD) Where do you think youre going, honey? Man places his foot on her forehead and shoves her against the wall. He pins her arms around her back and binds them with another piece of rope. Man (CONTD) How is that? Not too tight, is it? Sarah can only mumble a response. Man (CONTD) Why dont you make yourself comfortable over there with your friends? 00020000227A0000D6F82273,Man grasps Sarah shoulders and pulls her to her feet before shoving her limp form toward James. Sarah collapses upon Jens body. Man reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a pair of handcuffs. He snaps one cuff around Sarahs ankle and the other around Jamess ankle. Man (CONTD) If I remember correctly there is still one of you upstairs. I suppose I have some business to attend to. James and Sarah each scream behind their respective gags. With renewed energy James twists his body, surging, trying to free himself from the shackles. Man (CONTD) See you guys soon. Man begins to climb the staircase. Int. second house - first floor - Living room - nIGHT[] Fear has gripped Kelly. She inches through the room, frantically flashing her light in every corner and on every wall. KeLLY James, are you down here? You better not be playing another stupid joke on me. She stops in the center of the room, rotating the beam in slow circles around the room. KeLLY (CONTD) Jen? Sarah? Where are you guys? She moves to the doorway to the dining room and cranes her neck to better see the space before entering. Man sneaks across the room behind her, taking in a deep breath, smelling her scent. KeLLY (CONTD) This isnt funny. Where are you? Man lies down on the couch and picks up the mannequin. He lofts the mannequin toward Kelly and it lands just a few feet from where she stands. Kelly screams and spins around, spastically shining the light. It comes to rest on the mannequin and she screams again. KeLLY (CONTD) Okay guys, cut the crap! I know youre in here somewhere. She walks to the couch cautiously, training her light on its edge. KeLLY (CONTD) You act like I dont know youre hiding behind the couch, James. I heard your feet. She walks to within a few feet of the couch. Man sits up straight, fixes his gaze upon her face. Kelly freezes in position, stiff with fright, eyes wide and glistening. Man swings his feet to the floor, never taking his eyes from Kellys face. Man Ill give you three seconds to run, but Ill get ya. Kelly takes a step back. Man (CONTD) One. She takes another step back, then another. Man (CONTD) Two. She finally turns around and runs through the doorway. Int. second house - first floor - DinING ROOM - nIGHT[] Kelly races through the room and quickly reaches the other side. Her situation is now evident: she has run into a room with a single entrance. Man (O.S.) Three! Here I come! Man rushes into the dining room. Man (CONTD) Theres no way out. Come on over here and we work something out. Kelly grabs the chair standing upright and throws it at Man. He easily dodges it and laughs. Man (CONTD) Everybody dies. Everybody dies. He walks toward Kelly. KeLLY What do you want from me? Man pauses and shrugs. MaN I just want to taste you. Kelly presses her back against the wall. KeLLY Help! James, where are you? Man moves closer to Kelly, closer. Man Should I come to you, or do you want to come to me? Kelly is inching along the wall trying to push through it. KeLLY Get away from me you crazy asshole! Man Now thats not nice at all. He lunges at Kelly but she ducks and tries to race past him. He reaches out a hand and grabs a handful of Kellys shirt, pulling her to the ground. She flails wildly as he tries to contain her swinging limbs. She slaps Man across the face but he laughs it off. KeLLY Get off of me! Help! Somebody, help! Man straddles her, pinning arms with his hands and pinning legs with his knees. KeLLY (CONTD) Please, please dont do this! Man scoffs and begins to mock her. Man Please! Please! Stop begging. It makes you seem like a dog. He studies her face as she cries, not smiling, not frowning. Man (CONTD) You know, youre very pretty. Man releases one of her arms momentarily and slams her face into ground. Man (CONTD) There we go. Thats much better. Kelly continues to squirm but her strength is fading. KeLLY Why? Why are you doing this? Man I thought of it. Thats why. He removes a rag from his front pocket and covers Kellys mouth with it. She is too weak to struggle so rather mumbles something behind the fabric before passing out. Int. second house - Basement - nIGHT[] Jens clothing has been stripped down to undergarments. Man stands over her body zipping up his fly. James and Sarah scream hysterically through their gags, tears streaming down their faces. Kelly lies prone on the floor with arms and legs outstretched, bound by rope. She regains consciousness but not much. Man drags an old metal folding chair from the corner into the center of the room and sets it in front of James and Sarah. Man lifts Kelly from the ground and places her in the chair, ropes still attached to her limbs which are now straining. Man I wanted you to see this. Quick and painless. Man walks over to James and slits his throat. He catches some of the spilling blood in a glass. Sarah attempts to cry out but is unable; Kelly shrieks. Man splashes the glass of blood into Kellys open screaming mouth. It covers her face, hair, shirt. She coughs and spits the blood out of her mouth. KeLLY Please, dont! Just stop! Please! MaN Dont worry, Ive already finished with your friend over there. Man motions to Jens lifeless body. Sarah attempts to hobble to her feet but loses her balances and stumbles to the floor. MaN (CONTD) Looks like we have a volunteer! KeLLY If you touch her Ill kill you! Man I guess well see about that. Sarah crawls to Kelly and leans her head into Kellys lap. Man walks to the tool bench and picks up a can-style torch. KeLLY Please just let us go! We dont know who you are! We cant even identify you! Man sparks the torch and moves toward the girls. As he approaches Sarah kicks Man in the knee, causing him to fall. The torch slips out of his hand and burns his arm as it clatters to the ground. A slight scream escapes his lips. He stares at the hole burned through his blazer and picks up the can. Man Ah, you bitch! You stupid bitch! Man shoves Kelly out of the chair and stands above Sarah striking her face repeatedly with the can of the torch. Kelly struggles, trying to break free of the ropes. Man points at menacing finger at Kelly. Man (CONTD) Dont you fucking move! You want to see me angry? How does this work for you? Man drops the torch can and retrieves the sledgehammer. Without hesitation he raises the head into the air and brings it down onto Sarah, crushing her. Bones SNAP. Sarah lies motionless. Man (CONTD) Are you gonna behave, or do you want to end up like your friends? KeLLY Please, please just let me go! Kelly crawls in reverse, backing up to the wall as far as the ropes will allow. Man I thought I just told you not to move. Man lifts Kelly to her feet, hold her against the wall and begins to strangle her with his hands. Kellys eyes roll in their sockets, loose, losing. Man lets Kelly fall to her knees. Man (CONTD) Youre starting to bore me. Kelly wheezes, trying simultaneously to cry and to catch her breath. KeLLY Please... please... Man Are you ready for my grand finale? I think you may find it to be a little simplistic, but it really will be a blast for me. Man again places Kelly upright in the folding chair, wraps rope around her body, binding her to the chair. He ties her legs to the stems of the metal chair. Man pulls a knife from his breast pocket. Man (CONTD) Tell me you love me. Kelly stares into his face but doesnt respond. Man pinches her chin, tilting her head. Man (CONTD) Tell me you love me! Do you love me? KeLLY Yes. I love you. Man Are you sure? KeLLY I love you, okay! I love you! Man I dont believe you, but that will do just fine. Man stabs her in the chest. He stabs her again. And again. Its somewhat rhythmic, the stabbing. KeLLY Stop! Please stop! Man continues to plunge the knife into her body. Satisfied, he steps back and watches her blood steam onto the floor. KeLLY (CONTD) Why? James... She turns to look at James, eyes heavy and closing. KeLLY (CONTD) I love you. Man smiles as if she has spoken a compliment. Man I love you, too, honey. Kellys head nods forward and remains still. Ext. second House - nIGHT[] Toms car pulls into the driveway. He climbs out of the car and walks to the house. He whistles, rapping knuckles playfully against the door before turning the knob. Int. second house - first floor - LivING ROOM - nIGHT[] Man is hiding behind the front door. He stays motionless when the door swings open and Tom enters the room. Tom You guys alive in here? Tom chuckles and switches on his flashlight. He points the beam to the left of the room, looking, listening. He points the beam to the right and turns, coming face to face with Man. Mans gruesome face is lit momentarily, long enough for Tom to see Man lunge forward.
