Disconnected – Stranger Things episode 5

Normally, There has gotta be a script to a movie I post. There will be, soon. However, I thought this was too freaking brilliant to wait until Earl passes the annotated script over.

Watch the 5th episode of Stranger Things – Disconnected.

When their prize reality star goes missing, a monolithic network enlists the aid of the entire world to find him.

Written and directed by Earl Newton, based on a story by J. C. Hutchins and Earl Newton.

You can watch the vid at Stranger Things or below. But, I highly recommend that you watch the high quality, full screen version. Launch it, pause it and give it a chance to download. Then turn off the lights and enjoy.

A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost walk into a house…

BBC Writersroom

Thanks Russell for the heads up on two new TV scripts up on The BBC Writer’s Room. There are the first episodes of House of Saddam (which is about what you think it is about) and the supernatural series Being Human which Russell tells me has been renewed for a second season. The premise of Being Human, as Russell points out, sounds like the beginning of a joke: a vampire, a werewolf, and a female ghost share a house…

Check them out on the TV Scripts page. – Don

Dr. Who season four (well, actually season 30) scripts

Thanks Tom for the heads up on six teleplays from Season 30 (season 4 of the ‘new’ series) of Dr. Who. These come from the promotional site The Writer’s Tale by Russell T Davies (showrunner for the first four new seasons of Dr. Who) and Benjamin Cook. The book explores Russell’s work on Series Four, revealing how he plans the series and works with the show’s writers, where he gets his ideas for plot, character and scenes and how actors are cast and other creative decisions are made. The book is available from Amazon.com.

Check them out over on the TV Scripts and Transcripts page.

Edit: Thanks Peter for the clarification. This is Season 4 of the new series. Counted from the beginning of the original series, it would be Season 30. However, it is the 11th Doctor (canonical). – Don

Edit again: David Tennant, again as corrected by Peter, plays the 10th Doctor.

Darabont draft of Indy 4

While waiting for servers to update and files to download and upload (get deleted and reuploaded), I spent a lot of time dorking around the internet. In doing so, I came across WikiLeaks, a site that posts leaked documents. Between “Scientology cult FEBC staff training tapes” and “Protokoll Regierungsrat Zurich Missbrauch Steuervereinbarungen durch Offshore-Vehikel” I found the ‘purported’ Darabont draft of the latest Indian Jones movie. In many places it bears a strong similarity to the final film. On WikiLeaks, it is noted, “It also shows how Lucas blatantly ripped entire sequences from a much better film…” I beg to disagree as the credits on this draft show it was written by Frank Darbont [based on a] story by George Lucas. It is Lucas’ story and he can use it anyway he wishes. There has been great debate on the Discussion Board about the movie. There are those who loved it. There are those who hated it. I thought it was the best Indy movie, yet. – Don

Stranger Things – Episode 02A: Sins of the Mother

Stranger Things – Episode 02B: Sins of the Mother - script- from: StrangerThings.tv

After an unsuspecting patient fails a background check, a second-year intern is forced to make a difficult decision…

First watch the episode, then read the script (annotated in pdf format).

Sins of the Mother is the episode of StrangerThings that really cemented my love affair with Earl and the folks behind StrangerThings. This is where the acting, production values and the story really came together to tell a story that surpasses not only Earl’s previous works, but just about anything that has come out of short speculative television in the last few years. Earl and the StrangerThings team hit their stride on Sins of the Mother and carry it through on the next episode, One of those Faces.
