Hey Tim,

The point that everyone is trying to make is that the videos you see posted are videos that are made from scripts posted to the unproduced section of the site. The community that reads these scripts appreciates seeing the produced results of the scripts.

TJs script happened to be part of a contest here. Most of us had read it and really enjoyed watching the produced film.

You are welcome to submit one of your scripts to the unproduced section of the site and then post a video you have made of that script. I?m sure everyone would love to have a look at what you?ve done. And if you catch the attention of the webmaster then perhaps it will end up on the site blog as well.

Looking forward to seeing your work,

Michael

HI TJ,

To be honest I wasn't dissing you personally. From the bits I saw of your film, it seems to work which is a great validation that you are a competent writer. My complaint is that videos are posted on the front page of this site, sometimes they are produced from screenplays on this site, sometimes they just strike the fancy of those who run the board. However, as a site that receives a lot of traffic(since people like reading screenplays of their favorite movies)is it justified to ignore some videos that are submitted and post others? There's no kind of selection process that makes sense.

I come here to read screenplays and when I see videos posted I think well that's great for the people involved in that video but what about others who would like to get their work on here? It detracts away from the main purpose of this site, "Simply scripts." Is it simply about scripts anymore?

That's the question.

Again, congrats on the work and I was not insulting you personally or your work just the randomness of how some of these videos are posted on a "script" site. Then the trolls came and it all went to hell.

Hi, Tim. I'm the screenwriter of the film posted, the guy on the other end of the alledged nepotism. Like most others, I don't really understand your complaint? I wrote a script, it got produced, and as a screenwriting community most people on the boards enjoy watching scripts they've read translate to film. I know I do, regardless if it's my own work or not.

I did not contact Don and ask him to post a link, I've hardly ever had contact to him on or outside of the forum. So I don't think nepotism is apt here. But then again, I can't really tell if your criticism is directed at the fact that there are videos on SS or some vague lament about some people not being allowed to even post scripts, which I don't really see what has to do with this short getting produced?

You said you make films for a living? Sounds like you did what most of us only dream of. Where can we check out your work?

SO, Tim is not allowed to have an opinion but everyone else here is? This seems extremely hypocritical. We don't have to agree with, Tim, but damn, the pettiness on this board is amazing. I am grateful for Simply scripts constantly linking scripts to the aspiring screenwriters out there but I do think the site has become more geared to screening films by viewers. It's no longer "simply" scripts. The scripts are still the main attraction but now there's a lot of videos and you have to wonder is this now becoming youtube for the select few? Since not everyone is allowed to have their movies on here. Or am I missing something and every movie that is submitted to the site is up on the main page?

whine
v. whined, whin?ing, whines
v.intr.
1. To utter a plaintive, high-pitched, protracted sound, as in pain, fear, supplication, or complaint.
2. To complain or protest in a childish fashion.

This site is still about submitting your work, Tim. And it?s also about showcasing the films based on members? scripts that get produced. The latter doesn?t affect the former. If you can?t walk and chew gum at the same time, don?t assume other people can?t.

Everyone can write a script and submit it. Everyone could have participated in the writing challenge that?s taking place right now. Showcasing members? produced work is not a way to discourage the submission of new scripts. On the contrary is a way to encourage it.

I don?t know where is your bitterness coming from but take it somewhere else instead of making a fool of yourself.

First you tell us, "...it?s about only some people submitting their work and others nto being allowed to..."

Then you tell us, "I never submitted a script on this site..."

So how would you know the former if the latter were, in fact, true?

I honestly do not get where you are coming from, Tim, and I assure you, I am no moron, nor am I a virgin.

Did you submit a youtube video that Don would not link to? Is that it, perhaps?

I suggest you start your own website in Tim-Land, Tim -- a mystical place where Tim makes films for a living -- and everything will be rainbows and puppy-dogs for Tim forever.

first of all

Dictionary
nepotism |?nep??tiz?m| noun the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, esp. by giving them jobs.

So, we have a a bunch of illiterates, pretending to be writers who do not even know basic definitions of basic words.

Second, thank you for broadcasting your ignorance. I do not live in anyone's basement. I make films for a living, unlike the morons on this board. Since I was the first person to post on this thread I cannot be accused of trolling. Well, of course you have to know what the word means before you use it. The above posters, or trollers in this case, seem to have as limited an understanding of basic diction as they do of what constitutes "good" and "bad" writing.

My initial complaint, and it still stands, is that this site used to be about submitting your work. Now it seems that it's about only some people submitting their work and others nto being allowed to, ergo "nepotism". I never submitted a script on this site, though I do use the site to read industry scriptz. That is screenplays written by people who know how to write, unlike the idiots who trolled on my thread.

Now all you virgins go back to drooling to LOTR in your Mom's basements.

Peace

The goal of every SCREENWRITER is to get their work produced into a film. I personally am inspired by videos like these! This screenwriter got his work produced. He has a credit now, even if it's just for a student film. He has a contact. Maybe the director wants the writer to write a longer piece for him? Maybe the film from that makes a festival one day and wins an award.

It's NOT all about the writing. It's about getting the stories out of your head onto paper and onto film. And being able to compare the film with the blueprint can be an invaluable tool for future scripts. What translated best from script to screen? What didn't work?

Tim sounds like a troll or a very bitter writer. How anyone can have anything negative to say when a fellow writer gets their work produced is beyond me...
